SOUNDFIELD GOES TO HARVARD – Harvard’s New SoundField Mark V Microphone Broadens Horizons

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – MARCH 2011: Harvard University’s media production center has added a SoundField Mark V B-Format microphone to its existing inventory, which already includes a SoundField SPS422B mic and an SP451 surround sound processor. The Mark V is being used to make stereo and surround-sound recordings for various departments at the university, including the music faculty.

Anthony Di Bartolo, manager of the university’s media production center, provides audio, video and multimedia services across the university, and has himself long been a user of SoundField microphones for jazz and acoustic recording, including the older ST250 portable microphone system. “We already have an SPS422B and the SP451 surround processor here,” he explains, “but we were looking for another mic or system that would enable us to record in surround. Unit Opens A New White Mark Designed Post Facility

Acoustic and studio design consultancy White Mark Ltd has helped audio and video post production company Unit create a stunning new facility in the heart of London’s Soho, which has nearly doubled its capacity.

Established five years ago, Unit handles commercials, virals, corporates and finishing for broadcast. Its main clients are advertising agencies, for which it offers an end to end service.
Having outgrown its previous facility, the company located a 9,400 sq ft building in Soho and commissioned White Mark to design and build all of its new facilities.

Unit CEO Adam Luckwell says: “We wanted to upgrade our infrastructure to make it much more flexible and resilient and add services like Flame and Smoke. White Mark has been involved in the entire build, but has paid particularly close attention to our new audio suites.?

The re-engineered lunchbox boasts many improvements, including an increased power supply current of 215mA per slot, the addition of DB-25 connectors for easy input and output connection and XLR access to channels 7 and 8 of the multi-pins. iPad App Announced for Yamaha LS9 Digital Console

BUENA PARK, Calif.—In conjunction with an international launch at the Music Messe Expo, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. announces the availability of the iPad app StageMix for the Yamaha LS9 digital audio console. The new software will be shown at NAB in April.

Similar to the iPad app recently launched for the Yamaha M7CL console, StageMix is an application for the Apple iPad that allows remote control of LS9 mix functions via a simple, intuitive graphic interface from anywhere within wireless range. The application enables the engineer to set up monitor mixes from a performer’s position on stage directly controlling mix parameters via the iPad. To run StageMix on an iPad, a wireless connection from the iPad to a WIFI access point and an Ethernet connection from the WIFI access point to the LS9 is required.
