ASHLY AUDIO CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF BUILDING GREAT-SOUNDING, COST-EFFECTIVE, AND RELIABLE PRO AUDIO SOLUTIONS

WEBSTER, NEW YORK: Founded by Billy Thompson in 1974 on the wings of a successful live sound company, Ashly Audio has been pioneering innovative products for the pro audio industry for forty years. Although much has changed, such as Ashly’s steady pivot from analog solutions for live sound to digital solutions for installed sound, much has also not changed, and it is this constancy that underlies Ashly success and longevity. Ashly has always delivered great-sounding gear that is highly reliable, easy-to-use, and fairly priced, which is a combination that never goes out of style. Moreover, Ashly has always resolutely stood behind its products and offered its full support to its customers. Ashly continues in this tradition as it builds the next generation of networkable amplifiers, DSPs, and user interfaces.

“Ashly has always had a relatively slow but steady growth trajectory,” explained Mark Wentling, president of Ashly Audio. “Many similar companies started out around the same time as Ashly Audio but have since closed their doors or been absorbed into other companies to become just another ‘brand.’ People have moved on and factories have been shuttered or moved overseas. Our approach has always been to remain steady, dependable, and maybe a little conservative, and that contributed to the forty strong years that we’re now celebrating. Indeed, the Ashly philosophy reflects back on our employees… many of the people still on the payroll in engineering, administration, and manufacturing were there when the company was just starting up!”

Those were the days when Billy Thompson was still playing the role of mad scientist at a lab bench overrun with oscilloscopes, custom-made real-time analyzers, and voltmeters. The smell of solder hung thick in the air. Among many other gems, Thompson used that charismatic setup to design Ashly’s 1970s-era SC-Series of rack-mounted processors, which included classic compressors, equalizers, crossovers, line mixers, mic preamps, and all of the other goodies that today reside inside Ashly’s Protea™ Digital Signal Processing platform. The live sound industry flocked to these and other Ashly products because, for a fair price, they effectively solved real problems and were well-known to reliably endure the stresses of life on the road.

In the 1980s, Thompson pioneered Ashly’s now-legendary MOS-FET amplifiers, which revolutionized the amplifier market by dramatically increasing amplifier power and reliability while minimizing size and cost. Ashly’s MOS-FET amplifiers were among the first to be certified for meeting Lucas-films’ stringent THX movie theater sound systems. Today, Ashly continues in that tradition by delivering high-power, high-fidelity amplifiers in small-footprint, multi-channel configurations that maintain Ashly’s hallmark reliability and value.

“Our relatively small size allows us to be quite nimble and responsive to our customers, whom we deeply value,” said Wentling. “Ashly Audio still operates a full factory in Webster, New York, just outside of Rochester, where we design and manufacture all of our networkable products, including high-power Class-D amplifiers, DSP Matrix processors, and some legacy handmade analog mixers, like the MX-508. In addition, we have responded to market forces by opening Asia-based manufacturing for our KLR-Series amplifiers and some legacy analog products. However, this is just a component of our U.S.-based operations. Indeed, we expanded our U.S. manufacturing plant last year and grew the R&D team. We continue to add to our product line-up in the area of high-performance Class-D amplification, as well as DSP matrix & system processors.”

A development Thompson couldn’t have anticipated without Steve Jobs-like prescience is how quickly the pro audio industry has adopted network technology from the IT industry. Ashly’s nimble in-house engineering team has ensured that the company stays at the leading edge of this development, giving A/V integrators cost-effective options for building Ashly systems and tying them elegantly into the larger lighting and video infrastructures. Ashly’s network-ready amplifiers and processors play nicely on a TCP/IP network right out of the box, and integrators can network digital audio via CobraNet or Dante® (“and AVB when the time is right,” promises Wentling). In addition to networkable hardware user controllers, Ashly offers a popular Ashly Remote iPad app for custom control of its products and will look towards the eventual release of iPhone and Android variants as well. Beyond simply offering these technologies, Ashly’s dedication to customer support ensures that Ashly users are a phone call away from answers and solutions to the myriad questions and challenges that can crop up in complicated networked systems.

“There is an incredible history here,” says Anthony Errigo, director of marketing communications. “People at Ashly are dedicated and have great stories to share. Our employees are proud of this company and brand that they have built together.”

ATC TWEAKS ITS ENTRY-LEVEL PASSIVE NEAR-FIELD MONITOR AND RAISES IT TO A NEW STANDARD OF PERFECTION

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – JUNE 2014: TransAudio Group, U.S. distributors for ATC UK, introduces the ATC SCM20PSL MkII near-field reference monitor. The passive ATC SCM20PSL MkII improves upon the previous ATC six-inch two-way passive and is ATC’s smallest and least expensive monitor in the ATC Professional line up. Built to the same exacting standards as its active Pro Range siblings, the SCM20PSL MkII is ideal for those already using passives but seeking a new level of resolution in a compact passive package. They are ideally suited for critical near-field applications or smaller rooms.

“ATC is well-known for designing and building studio monitors that are unflinchingly truthful and that help engineers deliver mixes that translate everywhere,” said Brad Lunde, president of TransAudio Group. “ATC founder, Billy Woodman, and his team of R&D engineers never tire in the pursuit of perfection, and our request for a smaller monitor has led them to develop the SCM20PSL Pro MkII.”

The ATC SCM20PSL MkII is based around the ATC 6.5-inch “Super Linear” LF driver with integrated midrange, utilizing the same ATC developed SL technology used in our larger nine-, twelve- and fifteen-inch based monitors. The SCM20PSL MkII is the first professional product to incorporate ATC’s brand new in-house built ATC Dual Suspension 25mm tweeter. Five years in development, the new ATC Tweeter offers lower distortion, higher output and greater reliability. A newly ATC designed/built passive Crossover has been incorporated combining second and third order features to offer improved imaging and precision, comparing favorably to our active designs. Exceptionally neutral output extends across the audible spectrum and within an all-new cabinet design, minimizing size and weight. “Given the excellence of previous designs, these advantages lead to a substantive improvement in passive speaker technology,” concluded Lunde.

ABOUT TRANSAUDIO GROUP TransAudio Group, founded by industry veteran Brad Lunde, has quickly become the premier U.S. importer/distributor and/or U.S. sales and marketing representative for high-end audio. Success hinges on TransAudio providing dealers and end users with a higher standard of product expertise and support far beyond the norm.

Enabling the specification of locations and systems provides integrators the ability to provide packages or pre-configured systems for inclusion in the quote. Labor and general pricing is automatically calculated, and customers are provided an accurate proposal that in many cases can be signed off for approval on the spot.

By using D-Tools mobile quoting software, integrators give their customers a professional and impressive solution that illustrates both their commitment to the latest in cutting-edge technology and respect for their clients’ time by offering fast bids on-site. An integrator’s customer no longer has to wait anxiously until the integrator gets back to the office and spends hours pounding out a quote. Solutions are quick, easy, and professional, allowing the integrator to get started on their project right away. Available to D-Tools customers via the Apple App Store, the Mobile Quote app will carry a monthly subscription fee of $25.00 per user/device.

“We’re pleased to make the D-Tools Mobile Quote app available to our global user community,” said Adam Stone, President and Founder of D-Tools. “Providing our users the ability to create quotes in the field is a natural evolution for our platform, and the Mobile Quote app is an important component that ensures D-Tools continues to meet the growing needs of our expanding electronic systems integration customer base. The Mobile Quote app release is the first release of our mobile capabilities roadmap to significantly enhance and complete our project workflow. LATEST ALBUM FROM JAMES HOUSE RECORDED WITH API’s THE BOX

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – MAY 2014: With a resurgence of his country music hits from the 1990s, singer/songwriter/producer James House is keeping busy with a new album which was just released, and a sold-out sixteen-show tour throughout the UK. While recording tracks for Broken Glass/Twisted Steel, James wanted to achieve the classic “API sound” from the comfort of his home studio in Nashville – Dream On Studios. To attain the specific sound he had in mind, James rented API’s THE BOX from Blackbird Rentals for the summing of the album’s final mixes.

The project began at Ben’s Studio in Nashville, where each of the tracks was recorded on two-inch tape through a classic API 3232 console. The tape was then sent to James’ home studio, where he recorded the vocals, guitar overdubs, and mixing. While he was at Ben’s Studio, James heard tracks that were cut for an early demonstration of THE BOX. “It sounded like classic, warm API,” recalls James. “I’m a big fan of API in the first place, which is one of the reasons why we cut at Ben’s Studio.”

Noting the design and layout of THE BOX, James appreciates how the small-format console is portable, yet creates a classic API sound. “Without it, I would have had to rent a studio with an API console to sum the record. With THE BOX, I was able to rent it for two or three days and take my time summing and getting all the versions of the mixes. The size and design fills a gap between tracking in a commercial studio and in a smaller home studio.”

James recalls that the sixteen summing channels were a key factor that drew him to the console, as well as the overall quality and clarity it helped him achieve. “I just A/B’d the record with one of my earlier records, and it has a punch and presence that I love.” The first single off the album, titled “Every Time It Rains,” has already earned airtime on top country stations, and the song’s presence is growing with the release of its music video.

“I knew THE BOX was a smart idea,” said James. “The mixes gelled exactly like we hoped they would.”

New D-Tools website provides an enhanced, new Data Library that delivers in-depth analytical detail which benefits both users and manufacturers

CONCORD, CA, USA  – MAY 20, 2014 D-Tools, Inc., the worldwide leader in system integration software, announced today it has completed a comprehensive data update and has launched a new Data Library website, which together provide highly valuable integrated analytics and communication systems for manufacturers and the D-Tools user community from within the software environment, enabling more timely manufacturer pricing updates, special offers, and other relevant information.

The new Data Library is designed to create branding opportunities for D-Tools Manufacturer Vantage Point (MVP) Program partners, making their information more visible through the DTConnect feature. Not only does this attract authorized SIX users to MVP brands, it also facilitates additional sales and outreach opportunities for manufacturers participating in the MVP program. With these additions, the D-Tools software platform is more than just a workflow-enhancing tool for users; it is also a profit-generating program for MVPs that now provides greater visibility and analytical depth.

“We designed the new Data Library to include a cleaner visual style, better showcase MVP program manufacturer logos, and deliver more detailed product descriptions that now link to each MVP’s complete data catalog (as opposed to only linking to the company name),” says Adam Stone, President and Founder of D-Tools. “This makes navigating the MVP partner data simpler, more refined, and will include the most current promotions and information available.”

Delivering tangible benefits that users will immediately experience and benefit from, D-Tools now features the most up-to-the-minute product information available. “By linking to the MVP’s complete product catalog, D-Tools has essentially taken the guesswork out of the system design and documentation process for the user, while giving the MVP the added benefit of increased visibility,” says Stone. “These are exciting enhancements that we’re excited to provide to our partners worldwide.”

New Comprehensive Company Catalog from ICE Cable Systems Aims to Help Dealers Make More-Informed Structured Wiring Buying Decisions

Available in webzine and PDF formats at www.icecable.com, the 34-page catalog provides a detailed overview of the company’s products and strong adherence to safety and performance standards including UL, ETL, RoHS and HDBaseT. The design layout is much like a high-end car brochure, making for a compelling and easy-to-digest “read”

Los Angeles, CA – May 20, 2014 – Established in 2004, ICE Cable Systems is a leading manufacturer of premium low-voltage wire and cable products that serves the Audio Video, Alarm and Security, Commercial, Electrical Contracting and Data Center channels. The company has created a full-color 34-page catalog that is available for viewing in webzine and PDF formats at www.icecable.com – with printed versions mailing to all its dealers and distributors now.

”The goal of the catalog is to provide a comprehensive yet easy-to-read piece that will help dealers develop a stronger understanding of the many types of structured wiring, connectors and accessories that we offer – and why our adherence to safety and performance standards such as UL, ETL, RoHS and HDBaseT is so crucial for their businesses. This should help them make better decisions when specifying for the diverse and complex jobs they encounter,” says ICE Cable Systems President Brian Rizzo.

”We wanted to create a catalog that would capture the essence of ICE Cable Systems — the passion that we have for wire & cable — while providing technical information as deep as the reader wants to take it,” describes Rizzo. “To achieve this we are utilizing a layout reminiscent to what you might find in a BMW or Mercedes brochure where the first pages are emotional with cars in action, sensation, speed (all very broad), followed by an exploded view of the engine, and as you get further in it breaks things down to the nitty gritty. Similarly our catalog starts with broad strokes — company philosophy, exploded product pictures and features/benefits — and then gets into the line and specs further in.”

”This catalog should also serve to reinforce ICE Cable System’s position in the marketplace as a premium brand. This is important for us as the view of the structured wiring category is so often that of commodity and shopped on price alone. What dealers need to understand is that bargain-brand pricing often leads to performance problems either out-of-the-gate or down the line,” added Rizzo. “And that’s costly.”

The catalog features sections on:
· Product highlights of the company’s most innovative products
· Product listings (descriptions, colors, compatibilities)
· An in-depth look at cable standards and performance
· Competitors cross reference chart
· How ICE makes premium cable

For more information on the catalog please contact ICE Cable Systems at 310.444.1950.

For all ICE Cable Systems media inquiries please contact Paul Muto at 631.849.4301 or paul@mutocomm.com.

APG Electric Builds State-of-the-Art Conference Room for New Engineering Division Using a Symetrix SymNet Radius AEC Processor

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA – MAY 2014: Based in Clearwater, Florida and founded in 1984, APG Electric has grown from its humble beginnings into one of the Sunshine State’s leading contractors, with 250+ employees and annual sales in excess of $40 million. As the industry has advanced, APG has added in-house expertise that it formerly subcontracted, including an Audio/Visual division that joined the firm two years ago. As part of that process, APG Electric recently added a new engineering department and a new 22-room extension to house it. Included within the new office space is a state-of-the-art conference room, which will serve as a showcase for clients who are considering their conference room options and as a means to discuss and approve changes between the office-based and the field-based staff. To ensure that audio performance and voice intelligibility is excellent, APG Electric put a Symetrix SymNet Radius AEC Dante networked audio processor at the heart of the new conference room.

“Our goal was to build in the latest and greatest technology,” said James Wagoner, technology programmer at APG Electric. “We wanted to include all of the features that our clients might like to include so that they can make intelligent choices about what they want. I’ve installed literally hundreds of Symetrix SymNet audio DSP, and they’ve always been reliable and easy to configure. The very few times where I ever had an issue, Symetrix was right on top of it. Based on that experience and relationship, I specified the SymNet Radius AEC on faith. I’m very pleased with its performance and it makes our teleconferencing audio transparent and effortlessly intelligible.”

“The conference room really has two purposes,” said Larry Stephen, technology account manager at APG Electric. “First, we want to make our clients aware of the technology solutions that are available to support their communication needs. Including high-quality Symetrix audio processing is part of that. Second, we want to close the loop between on-site decisions and the approval they require from office-based staff. Formerly, this required driving back to the office, holding a meeting, marking up documents, getting approvals, and then driving back to the client and/or the site. With the conferencing system, those decisions, mark-ups, and approvals can all be made in real-time, with the client present. We can transfer files, print in the field, and have everybody sign off on a decision as it’s made. The conferencing features of this room save hours and days. It simplifies logistics.”

The Symetrix SymNet Radius AEC includes eight AEC (acoustic echo cancellation) inputs, four auxiliary inputs, eight outputs, and an expansion slot for any SymNet I/O card. Critically, it includes sophisticated AEC and related processing algorithms that deliver crystal clear audio to both sides of a remote conversation. The SymNet Radius AEC is easily expandable and networkable using the Dante Network protocol over Ethernet. An AMX DVX system controls all of the conferencing room’s functionality, including calls, video, audio, and lighting. Two Teamboard 90-inch interactive whiteboard also serve as projection screens for Panasonic short-throw projectors. Video is handled by a LifeSize ICON system using its UVC platform. The conference table includes pop-up boxes for connectivity and a collection of Shure boundary microphones for clear capture of discussions in the room. ElectroVoice Evid in-ceiling speakers provide output.

ABOUT SYMETRIX Symetrix is dedicated to making life sound better. As a world leader in the development and manufacturing of digital audio signal processing (DSP) systems and accessories, Symetrix provides best in class audio management solutions to businesses, schools, non-profits and government organizations.
