DEFIANTLY INNOVATIVE, DANLEY ENTERS THE COLUMN SPEAKER MARKET WITH THE SBH-10 “SKINNY BIG HORN”

GAINESVILLE, GEORGIA – FEBRUARY 2014: Danley Sound Labs broke into the house of worship market by skirting convention with its patented Synergy Horn and Tapped Horn technologies and is currently taking the sporting arena market by storm by one-upping line arrays with its unique Genesis and Jericho Horns. The recipe is easy to explain but almost impossible for anyone without Tom Danley’s unique acoustics background to pull off: Danley starts back at the fundamental physics of loudspeaker design to overcome trade-offs that are inherent to conventional designs. So it is again with column speakers. The new Danley SBH-10 “Skinny Big Horn,” uses Danley’s patented Paraline technologies to deliver the aesthetic benefits of a column speaker but with much greater fidelity, superior pattern control, no spurious lobes, and no requirement for complicated signal processing.

At a weight of one-hundred pounds and with dimensions of 60” x 9” x 9”, the SBH-10 is composed of eight 5-inch coaxial drivers and acts as a single large Synergy Horn with the directivity of a horn over twenty-five feet! Its coverage pattern measures 140 x 10 degrees, and its frequency response extends from 77Hz to 15kHz, +/-3dB.

“Danley’s new Skinny Big Horn series meets the aesthetic desire for a low profile column shape,” said Mike Hedden, president of Danley Sound Labs. “But shape is where the similarities between conventional column speakers and the Danley Skinny Big Horn end. Using our patented Paraline technology, the SBH-10 has the directivity of a twenty-five foot long horn, yet it is only nine inches deep! Moreover, due to horn loading, the SBH-10 has a sensitivity of 99dB, which is 10dB greater than similar sized cone-loaded products, and because it has such a high power handling rating, is capable of close to 20dB greater output when compared to similarly sized, front-loaded designs. The Danley Skinny Big Horn is a technological leap: no spurious lobes, forward directivity that other manufacturers can only dream of which allows it to even be flown away from a boundary, extremely tight vertical coverage, wide horizontal coverage, and – most importantly – audiophile fidelity. If all that weren’t enough, the SBH-10 requires only one amplifier channel and no special signal processing.” There’s a new leader in the column loudspeaker market. The SBH-10 and its not even a column, it’s a Skinny Big Horn!

FOR-A’s FT-ONE 4K Camera Awarded 2013 Government Video Salute, Used for NASA Space Launch

Cypress, CA – FOR-A’s FT-ONE full 4K variable frame rate camera was awarded a 2013 Government Video Salute Award. Presented by Government Video magazine, the awards honor the 10 most innovative products on the Government Video Expo show floor. GV Expo was held last month at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

In its GV Expo booth, FOR-A demoed the FT-ONE 4K super slow motion camera with its new 4K extraction system, the ZE-ONE. The company showed high-speed footage from the FT-ONE taken during NASA’s recent launch of the MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution) spacecraft on a 10-month mission to explore Mar’s climate history. Capable of recording up to 900 frames per second (fps), the FT-ONE captured stunning 4K footage of the event with a FUJINON Premier 4K+ PL Cine zoom – the 75-400mm T2.8-T3.8 (HK5.3×75).

During his GV Expo keynote presentation, Rodney Grubbs, Program Manager at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, noted the FT-ONE’s performance in his discussion about 4K and NASA’s search for new technology.

“FOR-A is honored to have the FT-ONE recognized as one of the best products at GV Expo, an event where so many great technologies are shown,” said Hiro Tanoue, FOR-A Corporation of America’s President. “The FT-ONE is ideal in many different applications, from sports and broadcast events to rocket launches. We look forward to seeing innovative, new ways the camera will be used in the future.”

In Government Video’s announcement of award winners, the FT-ONE was described as follows: “If you saw the FT-ONE 4K Variable Speed Camera video that FOR-A showed continuously at GV Expo 2013, you would immediately know why the camera was chosen. Its stunning resolution and hypnotically smooth ultra-slow-motion turned a blast from a tank’s cannon into kinetic art.”

The FT-ONE employs FOR-A’s high-sensitivity CMOS color sensor, “FT1-CMOS,” and plays back full 4K (4096 x 2160 pixels). One output channel can provide QFHD (four 1080p 3G-SDI) outputs, while the other output channel provides down-converted HD-SDI for live viewing and play back. The FT-ONE captures images as uncompressed raw data on the system’s internal memory, which has a recording capacity of 9.4 seconds. This data is then stored on one of two hot-swappable SSD cartridges, each of which is capable of storing 84 seconds of full 4K resolution images at 900 fps.

Zylight to Show New F8 LED Fresnel at GV Expo

LOS ANGELES – Zylight, a leading manufacturer of innovative LED lighting solutions, will demonstrate its new F8 LED Fresnel at Government Video Expo 2013, which runs Dec. 4-5 in Washington, D.C. (Booth 838). While the F8 draws only 100 watts, it has close to the light output of a traditional 1000-watt Fresnel. Plus, it collapses to less than four inches thick for easy transport and storage.

“The F8 LED Fresnel is a great choice for government agencies that need to update their studio lighting grids, because it is much more energy efficient than traditional Fresnels and generates almost no heat,” said Charlie Collias, senior vice president, worldwide sales. “It’s also a great light on location because it’s water resistant, easy to transport, and you can plug it in or power it with a camera battery.”

Available in tungsten (3200K) or daylight (5600K) versions, the fully dimmable F8 maintains single shadow traditional Fresnel beam shaping. Equipped with an eight-inch SCHOTT glass lens, it features a patented focusing system for spot and flood operations. With a CRI (color rendering index) of 97 or better, its beam spread is adjustable between 16-70 degrees for even coverage for widescreen productions.

Like other Zylight models, the F8 is equipped with ZyLink wireless technology, which makes it easy to link multiple Zylights for simultaneous remote control. The F8 ships with barn doors and yoke mount, but additional accessories are available separately.

PESA Xstream Multi-Path IP Streaming Appliance Among PESA Product Highlights at GV Expo

Huntsville, Alabama – PESA, a leading U.S.-based custom design and manufacturing company for professional audio and video signal distribution, will showcase the PESA Xstream multi-path IP streaming appliance at Government Video Expo 2013 (Booth 719), which runs Dec. 4-5 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The company will also showcase its new easyPORT™ modules for HDMI transport, Vidblox 2K DVI dual link extenders, and 4K routing switcher.

In addition, retired Col. John T. Wright, PESA senior vice president, sales and business development, will present “Unified Capabilities Requirements – Video Distribution Systems in DoD Environments” as part of the Pro Media Conference at GV Expo on Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. “The UCR is in place so Department of Defense agencies can equip with confidence, knowing that products have been tested and approved by the Joint Interoperability Test Command,” he explained. “My session will provide a basic understanding of the process, as well as some helpful hints for properly preparing a technical scope of work.”

PESA Xstream simultaneously encodes up to five independent video sources and eight audio sources concurrently from live or recorded video for multi-path H.264 IP distribution over six independent video streams – with no sync or latency issues. Housed in a compact, 1 RU form factor, it provides a cost effective, comprehensive package for digital media capture, processing, distribution, and storage. Upgrades for Q1 2014 include on-board storage as well as a USB 2.0 communications interface.

“With its synchronized, high-quality video and audio and a low cost per stream, PESA Xstream has caught the attention of government agencies and a number of other vertical markets,” Wright said. “PESA Xstream is already part of VIQ Infinit, a digital media capture and management platform from VIQ Solutions for court systems, and we are working with developers who are tailoring the user experience for other specific applications.”

PESA Xstream captures H.264 IP camera streams, NTSC/PAL or SDI video up to 1080p resolution, stored video content, and even computer-based content such as PowerPoint slides or medical patient vital signs, then prepares high-bandwidth MPEG-4/H.264 broadcast streams for enterprise distribution and archive. When multiple sources are captured simultaneously, the streams remain associated and synchronized during the event.

With five individually addressable video outputs as well as an integrated quad-view output, PESA Xstream allows operators to stream live content over IP while simultaneously transmitting live digital content to a quad-view display and/or full screen display. PESA Xstream can also synchronize discrete audio inputs to discrete video inputs, and offers adjustable audio delay. An intuitive Web browser management and control interface provides complete remote capabilities, which can eliminate the need for on-site personnel to stream content to a production facility.

Four new easyPORT™ compact switching throw-down boxes make it easy to integrate HDMI sources into video transport. The EASY-2HX4B distributes or switches two HDMI inputs to four independent SDI video sources, simplifying cable and power management at the desktop when you need to convert two HDMI inputs to share across multiple SD/HD or 3G-SDI video transports. The EASY-4BX2H companion module offers flexibility at the studio workstation, where up to four SDI video input feeds can be converted and switched to two different HDMI video displays. Offered with coaxial 75 Ohm connections, the EASY-2HX4B and EASY-4BX2H can be extended up to 80m, while the EASY-2HX4F and EASY-4FX2H fiber versions with standard LC-type SFP pluggable modules support distances up to 600m over multi-mode or 10km over single-mode fiber.

PESA’s new series of Vidblox 2K DVI dual link extenders are ideal for the distribution of ultra high-resolution graphics used in production studios, command and control rooms, and geospatial imaging centers. The modules transport 2K video (up to 2560×1600@60Hz) over coax and/or fiber to or from serial digital equipment, with analog stereo embedded in the video transport. On the local TX module, a looping DVI-D output allows quick monitoring status to check video content and image quality. Vidblox 2K modules can be combined with PESA’s full line of 3G-SDI routing switchers for 2K distribution and switching systems up to 288×288, and each Vidblox 2K can be networked for remote control using PESA’s Cattrax network control software.

Designed to support the emerging 4K/UHDTV marketplace, the new Cheetah 4K 16×16 routing switcher features hot swappable matrix and I/O cards, as well as internal power and control, which virtually eliminates the need for additional power and external cabling. Plus, redundant power and control modules can be added within the 4 RU frame. The router is controlled through traditional RS-232/422 or Ethernet connections, and its built-in SNMP MIB simplifies integration to third-party network system management software. The router can be configured and controlled via PESA’s intuitive Cattrax network GUI or optional Cattrax Web network server software using PESA’s powerful PERC2000 or PERC3000 system controller hardware.

Each Cheetah I/O card includes four SC-style fiber CWDM connections carrying up to 12 Gbps (4xSDI) for each input or output port. To complete the end-to-end 4K system, an outboard easyPORT module converts the signals from each CWDM port on the router back to conventional HD/3G-SDI video lines. With the built-in crosspoint switch circuit on each easyPORT module, users can also send four independent SD/HD/3G-SDI signals over a single wire interface, which saves valuable cabling space, and can extend coax I/O more than 80m using the built-in equalizing and reclocking circuits in each easyPORT module.
