WebDT Content Manager (WCM) software provides inclusive tools to schedule content files and create layout designs for media displayed on digital signs. With WCM, a network manager can manage how and when content files are played on a digital signage network from any location. The new WCM 6.0 Pro streamlines operations, enhances security, and offers scalability and rich feature sets.

The newest WebDT Content Manager release, WCM 6.0 Pro, offers an improved user experience with an even more user-friendly and intuitive interface, making the process of managing digital signage content more efficient. A digital signage content manager can now edit a content playlist with single or multiple scenes using Playlist Editor, a 3-step process to publish content in a few minutes. The new calendar interface enables convenient management of playlist schedules, with drag-and-drop operation and a mini-menu to edit schedules. WCM 6.0 Pro supports a wide variety of multimedia formats, as well as built-in Widgets, real-time video-in, executable applications and remote URLs, and files can be edited and previewed in the Media Library.
The Widget Editor allows content managers to quickly create or edit content for playlists, and apply common widgets such as clock, date, time and weather to playlists directly.

The new Player tools allows a content manager to create and monitor player groups, and check the settings, download and playback status, take snapshots, and execute on/off commands for a grouped set of media players. The updated Urgent Cast feature now has three pre-set buttons to assign different Urgent Cast content to multiple player groups, and the Urgent Cast can now be in the form of a playlist or widget. When there is an urgent situation that requires immediate broadcast, clicking the preset Urgent Cast button will publish the content as defined to all target players. Another new tool with WCM 6.0 Pro is an open canvas multi-screen layout designer, with pre-loaded attributes for popular commercial display models for quick content publishing with multiple display groupings.

Beyond content management, WCM 6.0 Pro can also monitor the status of each player, track all activity, and generate reports for network reviews and advertising proof-of-play billing. Additionally, administrators can remotely update patch, restart and shut down the player appliances.

For users who work with Microsoft Active Directory, rather than creating new usernames and passwords for WCM, the data can be directly imported to WCM, including already assigned account roles and access privileges.

WebDT Content Manager software is included with purchase of WebDT digital signage single-head and multi-head hardware appliances, greatly expanding the value and deployment efficiency. Also available is the WebDT Software Development Kit (SDK) for customization and integration with third party applications.

CARVER SPORTS COMPLEX HITS A TRIPLE: ASHLY PROCESSING, ASHLY AMPLIFICATION, AND ASHLY USER CONTROL

NEOSHO, MISSOURI – MAY 2013: Neosho, Missouri serves as the western gateway to the Ozark Mountains. Recently, the Neosho R-5 School District initiated a multi-phase plan to convert an open field adjacent to Carver Elementary School into a sports complex with two baseball/softball diamonds and a soccer field. Lance Brummett at Warren Smith & Associates, Consulting Engineer P.C. (Tulsa, Oklahoma) designed the electrical infrastructure for what will be known as the Carver Sports Complex. Nate Pugh, project supervisor and Vince Hightower, installation foreman of Total Electronics Contracting (Joplin, Missouri) oversaw its installation. In order to provide the district with reliable, affordable sound reinforcement for the sports complex, Ashly Audio processing, amplification, and user control forms its core.

“Although they only have the first softball field completed, we have already installed the audio systems that will cover both ball fields,” said Pugh. A pair of Community R.5 loudspeakers covers each field (four loudspeakers total) from atop a concessions stand that resides between the two fields. A single Ashly KLR-2000, rated at 1000W on each of two channels, powers the system, one channel per field. An Ashly ne24.24M processor handles all of the input management, signal processing and routing logic for both fields. Because it has a modular I/O design, the ne24.24M is perfectly tailored to the complex’s needs. Twelve inputs collect six identical sources from each field, and four outputs feed the amplifier with two spares.

“This was my first experience using the Ashly ne24.24M processor,” said Hightower. “After just an hour with it at the shop, I felt completely comfortable and ready to take it to the field. It went in easily and without a hiccup. The fact that it’s modular is nice; we were able to give them what they needed without wasting a lot of untapped potential. The Ashly KLR-2000 is a great sounding amp. It’s nice and clean and promises to deliver reliable sound for a long time to come.”

A pair of Ashly FR-8 Network 8-Channel Remote Faders provide simple, intuitive user control of source volume and muting, as well as output volume for each field. Because the FR-8 connects to the ne24.24M with just a simple Ethernet jack, installation was a snap. Input sources are identical for each field and include a tuner, a Marantz CD/iPod player, an ElectroVoice wireless microphone, a Shure wired announcer microphone, and an additional microphone jack. Furman sequencing provides power to the system in a Middle Atlantic rack.

WATCHOUT powers ‘history in the making’ at Liberal Party Convention in Toronto

In a powerful demonstration of its ability to integrate live data into a multimedia production with both local-venue and broadcast connectivity, Dataton WATCHOUT™ multi-image display and presentation software has been deployed as a key presentation tool at the Canadian Liberal Party’s Ontario Leadership Convention in Toronto.


The WATCHOUT licences were supplied to Mediaco by Show Sage, Dataton’s Premium Partner for North America. Jim Testa, President, Show Sage, comments: “Whether it’s equipment rental, lighting and staging, technical production or fully fledged system design, Mediaco is a highly innovative and trusted partner, and it was a pleasure to support them in the creation of the Liberal Party Convention multimedia show.”

The Convention, which resulted in the nomination of Kathleen Wynne as the first openly gay female Premier in Canadian provincial history, was held in Toronto’s historic former Maple Leaf Gardens building and took place over two days in January this year.

Local event production company Mediaco was responsible for the technical system design and co-ordination of the event, including all on-site AV provision and appropriate OB feeds to Canada’s broadcast community. Mediaco has just rebranded aligning themselves to providing the fastest service and support possible.

Matt Farrell, Mediaco’s Production Manager for the Convention, takes up the story: “The Liberal Party is the sitting party in Ontario so this was no ordinary Leadership Convention – it was a congress to elect a new leader for the entire province of Ontario. As such there was an enormous amount of media attention, in addition to all the hectic negotiations you would expect from a Convention where six candidates have to be reduced down to one winner in a matter of 48 hours.”

Mediaco’s work on the project began a week ahead of the Convention’s opening, with lighting and audio systems being hung over truss in a series of eight-hour shifts. “We came into the building the day before and had to be loaded-in by 4pm for the start of rehearsals,” Farrell continues.

“We had three separate rear-projection displays, using WATCHOUT to create a single HD backdrop that could also be divided into three, depending on the requirements of the event and the timing of the votes inside the venue.

“The screens showed a mixture of pre-made images created by our in-house content team, live camera feeds of the candidates making their pitches to the Convention delegates and other key party members delivering speeches and, last but not least, the big numbers for each candidate as the votes were tallied up.”

As well as the edge-blending and scheduling capabilities of WATCHOUT, Mediaco also used the software platform’s geometry correction functionality for projection onto the center screen because of installation issues caused by the building design.

WATCHOUT’s timeline-based show management tools also allowed direct integration with pre-programmed sound effects and cues that were fed into the on-site audio desk.

The complete audio and video feed was then made available to a broadcast connection that was used live by local stations and in highlights packages by national networks.

Throughout the two-day Convention, Mediaco staff had to adapt the content of their main display to accommodate the shifting political landscape of the event – as Chris Cameron, Technical Director at Mediaco, relates:

“There were a lot of last-minute changes to the presentation which we were able to accommodate into the WATCHOUT timeline because the software is just so easy to use. Once on-site we used the platform’s ability to take data from a live input capture card. This allowed us to broadcast up-to-date voter statistics throughout the frenzy of delegates transferring their vote from one candidate to another as each round of voting was completed.”

Ashly is offering three series of nX amps with feature sets that build upon each other. The base nX amplifiers are available in four- or two-channel models at 3000W or 1500W per channel (@ 2 Ohms) and feature a defeatable automatic sleep mode. nXe series amps add Ethernet control, serial data control, aux preamp outputs, programmable standby mode, preset recall, fault condition logic outputs, event scheduling, and optional network audio and digital audio capability (CobraNet® or AES3). Finally, nXp series amps feature everything in nXe plus onboard 32-bit SHARC Protea DSP processing (48 or 96kHz sampling rate) and precision swept load-impedance monitoring.

Additional features include multiple independent power supplies for increased channel separation and reliability; front panel power switch and level controls (defeatable in nXe and nXp models); front panel LEDs for temperature, current, signal, clip, mute, bridge mode, protect, sleep, and more; Neutrik® Combo XLR – 1/4” TRS jack plus Euroblock input connectors; Neutrik speakON® twist locking loudspeaker connectors for security, safety, and reliability; rear panel DIP switches per channel for selection of high pass filter, limiter, input gain, and High-Z or Low-Z speaker output configuration; remote DC level control on each input channel; switch mode power supply automatically detects 120V or 240V AC operation; and extensive protection circuitry, including continuously variable cooling fans.

SYMETRIX INTRODUCES EXTERNAL CONTROL EXPANDER FOR SYMNET

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – APRIL 2013: Symetrix announces release of the SymNet xControl, an external control expander for use with the SymNet Edge and Radius family of DSP products useful in conferencing and paging applications. For those installations where Edge and Radius’s eight onboard control inputs and eight logic outputs require expansion, xControl provides an additional sixteen inputs, sixteen outputs and two RS-232 ports.

In typical conferencing and paging applications, external control inputs accommodate closures from push to talk (PTT) microphone switches while control outputs directly drive LED indicators associated with the PTT mics. Additional output applications may include the triggering of external relays or camera switching devices.The xControl’s flexibility lends support to both everyday and ‘outside-the-box’ applications.

For serial communications with third party projectors, camera controls, routers, and lighting either of xControl’s two RS-232 ports may be configured to receive or transmit commands. An added bonus is Power over Ethernet (PoE) which means xControl may be mounted outside of a rack room and connected to the system with a single CAT5/6 cable via a PoE network switch. Occupying only a 1U, two of the half-rack devices can be mounted side-by-side or xControl may be surface mounted. For either type of mounting, all hardware is included. For direct powering, a PoE injector is included. SymNet Composer open architecture software provides comprehensive set-up and management of xControl.
