Symetrix has evolved over the years into one of the leaders in the DSP world by producing the most complete line of forward-thinking products available. Native Media strives to be a ‘new style’ rep firm; one that works to provide the best in support and service. Symetrix really steps up and gives us the tools to meet those goals.”

PreSonus Ships Innovative StudioLive AI-series Active Integration PA Loudspeakers

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – January 2014…  PreSonus is shipping its new StudioLive™ AI-series Active Integration Loudspeakers, the first active loudspeakers that deliver studio-monitor accuracy onstage. The new line includes the full-range StudioLive 312AI, 315AI, and 328AI and the StudioLive 18sAIsubwoofer. All models are available immediately.

A key component of the StudioLive AI’s design is its use of Active Integration technology. Active Integration combines wireless and wired networking and communications with powerful DSP to create a unified working environment.

StudioLive AI-series speakers incorporate Fulcrum Acoustics’ TQ™ Temporal Equalization algorithms. Taking advantage of Active Integration’s ample DSP, TQ employs multiple, fully addressable Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filters to eliminate horn reflections and to correct linear time and amplitude anomalies in coaxial systems. Collaborating with Fulcrum Acoustics’ co-founder, Dave Gunness, PreSonus software designers incorporated custom TQ algorithms with dynamics processing, FFT tools, and performance monitoring into the onboard DSP. The result is a PA system with remarkably clear, coherent, studio-quality sound.

Each full-range, powered, 3-way loudspeaker relies on a custom-designed, CoActual™ 8-inch coaxial speaker with a 1.75-inch titanium compression driver to reproduce the mid and high frequencies. Triamplified, Class D power amplifiers in each model deliver a combined 2,000 watts of power.

The StudioLive 312AI comes equipped with a 12-inch ferrite speaker to handle low-frequency reproduction, while the 315AI employs a 15-inch woofer, and the StudioLive 328AI features dual 8-inch ferrite speakers, enabling it to deliver high-powered performance in a noticeably streamlined and compact enclosure.

Each full-range system has a combo XLR/TRS line input and an XLR microphone input with an XMAX™ Class A mic preamplifier and 12V phantom power, as well as an XLR audio throughput. The full-range speaker systems are pole-mountable and have ergonomic side handles, interlocking stacking, and M10 fly points. All enclosures are of lightweight plywood construction.

Three operation modes allow the user to choose DSP presets for their application, such as MP3 playback, live performance, or stage monitoring. Users can also create a custom preset using SL Room Control and store it onboard for use later.

In addition to the full-range, 3-way systems, PreSonus is offering the StudioLive 18sAI, a powered, 18-inch, ferrite subwoofer designed to complement the full-range StudioLive AI speakers while still being flexible enough to work with other powered loudspeakers. A 1,000W amplifier powers the subwoofer. The StudioLive 18sAI offers stereo line inputs (XLR/¼-inch combo) and full-range stereo line outputs (XLR) with a switchable, low-cut crossover.

All StudioLive AI-series loudspeakers include an Ethernet port and a USB port with a Wi-Fi module to connect to SL Room Control software over a wireless network. Expected to be available in Spring 2014, SL Room Control is a speaker-management application for Mac OS X®, Windows®, and iPad that provides both individual and grouped speaker control and includes a 31-band graphic EQ and an 8-band parametric EQ, muting, soloing, and level control, in addition to performance monitoring (over temperature, click detection, and excursions). A network-setup wizard will be included.

Custom accessories for the AI-series speakers include a mountable Sub Dolly to make hauling the 18sAI subwoofer easy and a pull-tested Sub Pole to mount a full-range system atop the 18sAI. An M10 Kit, which contains four M10 eyebolts, lets you fly any full-range model in a permanent installation. Protective covers for the 312AI, 328AI, 315AI, and 18sAI are also available.

U.S. MAP/street prices are expected to be $1,399.95 for the StudioLive 312AI, $1,499.95 for the StudioLive 328AI, $1,599.95 for the StudioLive 315AI, and $1,299.95 for the StudioLive 18sAI subwoofer. All models are available immediately. For more information visit www.presonus.com/products/live-sound-reinforcement

The DSP ‘Brain’ of Brno: Symetrix Processing Massive Audio Installation at Leading Czech University

Brno University's main auditorium, one of the rooms served by SymNet processing

Distributor Audio Digital and systems integrator APS install Symetrix technology throughout new campus building.

Established in 1899, Brno University of Technology has evolved over the ensuing century to become one of the Czech Republic’s leading universities. Staff have consistently sought to match this cutting-edge reputation with high-end technology, and it was in this spirit that distributor Audio Digital and systems integrator APS recently provided the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communications’ new complex with a system that harnesses the power of Symetrix audio processing.

The scale of the installation was truly immense and encompassed 12 lecture halls with capacities ranging from 75 to 200 seats, along with many other smaller lecture rooms. But the undoubted centrepiece of the project – and its most challenging aspect in acoustical terms – was a 300-capacity auditorium designed in the shape of a large sphere.

“The volume and acoustics of the room are everything but standard, and yet a perfect coverage and intelligibility had to be achieved,” says Michal Zeman of Audio Digital. No small feat – yet Zeman was always aware that a system based around Symetrix SymNet Edge DSP technology could get the job done.

Modular in nature, SymNet Edge provides both the 48-channel digital audio matrix required today and the ability to scale up in the future should the need arise. Consisting of three Edge units located around the auditorium and connected over a standard Ethernet network using an Audinate Dante bus, Edge’s decentralised structure allowed Audio Digital and APS to keep analogue cable runs to an absolute minimum.

The Symetrix DSP – which is integrated into the auditorium’s overall Cue control system – is also advantageous to the teaching staff, who do not necessarily have extensive operational skills. “The choice of Symetrix really paid off here, too, as on one hand it offers user-friendly features such as automixing, and on the other allows external access to every single parameter needed, so there were no limits in adjusting the Cue’s user interface to the needs of the users,” says Zeman.

Carefully finetuning the Symetrix system to optimise the acoustics, Zeman and collaborators deployed AFMG’s EASE software to produce a loudspeaker design based around TOA line arrays and Dynacord subwoofers. Amplification comes from APart Audio amplifiers, while wired and wireless microphones by TOA, Electro-Voice and MIPRO complete the core specification.

Symetrix technology is by no means restricted to the main auditorium, however: two of the other lecture rooms feature SymNet Solus 16 standalone DSP units, while audio in ten smaller spaces is driven by Zone Mix 761 devices.

Paying tribute to the “feature-richness and competitive price level” of the Symetrix DSP technology, Zeman says that it was “from the very beginning our first and only choice for the DSP ‘brain’. No other brand I have encountered currently comes even close to what Symetrix can offer.”

Symetrix Speeds DSP Specification and Design with New Online Tool: SymQ SymNet Design and Quotation Calculator

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – NOVEMBER 2013: Digital signal processing specialist Symetrix has introduced a new online planning tool that allows users to quote and launch the design of SymNet DSP systems. Available now to select distributors, A/V specifiers and integrators, SymQ can be used to plan a variety of DSP systems using SymNet hardware enabled with Audinate’s popular Dante audio networking technology.

SymQ users enter information about the number and type of audio inputs and outputs required in a given DSP system and the tool generates an estimate of the quantity and type of SymNet devices required to implement the lowest cost design. Users may elect to receive an itemized price quotation as well as a SymNet Composer site file pre-populated with the suggested hardware.

SymQ is fully integrated with SymNet Composer software, and for those users who have a clearer idea of their requirements and have already completed a preliminary design using Composer, SymQ will generate and email a price quotation.

SymQ supports the entire range of SymNet Dante-enabled hardware including Radius 12×8, Radius AEC, Edge, xIn 12, xOut 12, as well as all SymNet I/O option cards.

Particularly advantageous for those users not intimately familiar with the SymNet product line, SymQ can be accessed by authorized Symetrix international distributors, U.S. dealers, representatives, A/V specifiers and consultants.

“Symetrix is dedicated to making life sound better,” says Symetrix Director of Marketing Brooke Macomber. “By launching SymQ, we’re making it easy for customers to integrate SymNet DSP solutions into their projects using an on-line component selection tool. Our easy-to-use calculator enables consultants and integrators to reduce their decision making time as a first step towards the commissioning of DSP systems that conform perfectly to their customer’s price and performance requirements.”
