ASHLY PROCESSORS AND AMPS A DYNAMIC DUO AT TWIN PEAKS RESTAURANT

twin_peaks_exterior.JPGSCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA: Owing to a successful recipe of “man food,” sports and sexy young waitresses, Twin Peaks Restaurant is one of the nation’s fastest growing chains. Part of its brand concept is to build “the perfect man cave,” which includes high-fidelity sound reinforcement to complement a profusion of screens. Clean Media AV recently helped complete a Twin Peaks Restaurant in its hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona. To meet the restaurant’s demanding A/V requirements with an utterly reliable, yet still cost effective system, Clean Media AV designed the system around Ashly Audio network-ready processors and amplifiers.

The new Twin Peaks Restaurant occupies 7,500 square feet, which Clean Media AV subdivided into multiple zones so that volumes and input sources could be finely controlled. Nearly seventy high-definition televisions dot the ceiling and walls, guaranteeing that patrons are well positioned to take in multiple games and events more

A HARBINGER OF THINGS TO COME!ONE DANLEY JERICO HORN COVERS AN ENTIRE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL FIELD

newnan_highschool_jh90.JPGNEWNAN, GEORGIA: In many ways, Newnan High School is a unique place that delivers an award-winning education through the collective dedication and hard work of its individual teachers and students. However, Newnan HS also has a lot in common with other high schools in the area and around the country – a vigorous athletics program that raises school spirit among students and helps to bond neighbors in the larger Newnan community. Recently, the school overhauled its 4,300-seat Drake Stadium, expanding it to accommodate 6,000 fans and replacing its dated sound reinforcement system. Rather than concede to the trade-offs and limitations inherent in traditional stadium reinforcement designs, Newnan opted to install a single Danley Sound Labs Jericho Horn JH-90, which delivers point-source, full-frequency coverage for the entire stadium at a total system cost that was fiercely competitive.

The old system had relied on a distribution of limited fidelity horns. Their multiple sources, combined with echoes, led to what any sound professional would recognize as a serious intelligibility problem. However, because it was like the thousands of sound systems that fill high school stadiums across the nation, most Newnan fans simply shook their heads, acquiesced to garbled announcements, and wrote it off as “typical stadium sound.” With the renovation of Drake Stadium’s seating and press box, the school jumped at the chance to update the sound reinforcement system. While school officials certainly expected some improvement, they did not anticipate just how dramatic that improvement would be.

“They knew that they wanted the new sound reinforcement system located out by the scoreboard just beyond one of the end zones,” said LaDon Findley, principal and chief sound designer at Performa Technologies, the Millbrook, Alabama-based company that installed the new sound reinforcement system for Newnan HS. “The dilemma is that when it gets that far away, there can be a serious reduction in sound pressure level as the signal moves forward in time and space. Southern A&E of Austell, Georgia designed the system to include one Danley Jericho Horn JH-90, which was expressly designed to excel in such situations. Due to some remarkable physics, the JH-90 delivers full-frequency, phase-coherent audio from a single point source with tremendous power.”

Performa Technologies worked with StressCrete to design a custom pole on which to mount the 700-plus pound JH-90 that would safely take it up and over the scoreboard. One DSLP48 processor, four Danley 6.5k amplifiers and one Danley 3.3k amplifier power the massive loudspeaker. Because the distance between the loudspeaker and the control booth is so great, Performa Technologies put evolved and now-cost effective wireless technology to use. A Listen Technologies line-level wireless transmitter conveys signal from the control booth to the equipment rack.

“With just one Danley Jericho Horn JH-90, Newnan High School has received a tremendous upgrade in terms of coverage and intelligibility,” said Jereme Harris, operation manager at Performa Technologies and the person responsible for the installation. “To call the difference between the old system and the new system ‘night and day’ doesn’t even begin to describe it.”

Dataton brings colour, movement and sound to Les Baux de Provence

Videmus supplies WATCHOUT to enable transformation of stone labyrinth onto ‘Quarries of Light’

Dataton is delighted to announce that its WATCHOUT multi-display and show-management software has been used as a core technology at a major new art installation in the south of France.

A collaboration between the town of Les Baux de Provence and the specialist French venue management company Culturespaces, ‘Carrières de Lumières’ (‘Quarries of Light’) is a hi-tech re-purposing of the Carrières du Val d’Enfer – a network of abandoned chalk-mining tunnels close to the historic Provençal village.

With a subterranean feel, the Carrières de Lumières is a labyrinth almost 200 metres long that varies in height between 10 and 15 metres. In its newly re-invented form, the space provides the perfect backdrop for large-scale video projection – a place where visitors can view images close to or from a greater distance away, while the unique texture of the chalk surfaces adds further visual interest to whatever artistic content is being displayed.

The Carrières de Lumières opened to the public in March of this year with its first show – ‘Gauguin, Van Gogh, les peintres de la couleur.’ The show, which literally throws new light on the colours used by two of art history’s most celebrated painters by projecting still photographs and video animations oftheir works, was commissioned from designer Gianfranco Iannuzzi by Culturespace founder Bruno Monnier.

As well as the walls of the former quarry, the show uses the floor as a projection surface, while a discreetly installed audio system plays a series of atmospheric 12-track musical backgrounds through a network of 50 loudspeakers. A stage-lighting setup based on LED sources accentuates the stonework with raking light at times when the ‘screens’ are not showing any content.

In all, there are 68 video projectors, all ceiling-mounted to minimize the impact of projected light beams on visitors. Each projector has its own server content running an individual Dataton WATCHOUT™ channels. These, together with a second machine running the Medialon Manager show-control system with which WATCHOUT runs in sync, make a total of 70 devices in total – all housed in an air-conditioned control room located on-site but accessible only by staff.

The WATCHOUT-equipped servers were supplied by Videmus, Dataton’s partner for WATCHOUT in France. The company worked closely with an installation team led by technical manager Sebastien Chapuis, and with project staff Mathieu Delfine, Florence Amat and Agathe Poisson.

“The project team liked the WATCHOUT solution because of its simplicity,” explains Eric Lambert, managing director, Videmus. “As well as ensuring that all the projectors receive their video content at full resolution and in perfect sync with each other, WATCHOUT also uses MIDI commands to sequence the on-site audio DSP settings so that the right soundtrack is played through the right speakers at the right time, while at the same time controlling a DMX-512 universe for the LED lighting.

“All this is then managed by Medialon Manager show-control system, which operates a seven-day calendar so that the show begins and ends every day, at the right time of day, without the staff having to worry about a thing.”

Fredrik Svahnberg, Marketing Director, Dataton, comments: “The Carrières de Lumières is a fantastic space in which to appreciate art and represents a brilliant usage of WATCHOUT. The effects created are truly stunning and we feel sure that they will lead to a greater appreciation not just of these great paintings, but also of the old stone quarry itself.”

The final word goes to the show’s designer, Gianfranco Iannuzzi, who enthuses: “The deployment of WATCHOUT and the support of Videmus during the three months of setup for this show were truly invaluable. They allowed me to devote myselfentirely to the design and content creation which, with the help of my staff, Massimiliano Siccardi and Renato Gatto, we managed to realize on time and with, we believe, truly unique results.”

ASHLY’S PEMA AND KLR AMPS DELIVER THE AUDIO GOODIES TO SWIFT’S ATTIC

swifts_attic.JPGAUSTIN, TEXAS – MAY 2012: Located in the city’s bustling warehouse and variously billed as a tapas restaurant, a gastropub, or an American small plate restaurant, Swift’s Attic is a refreshing addition to the bar and restaurant scene in Austin, Texas. Swift’s Attic occupies the second floor of what was built to be the Swift Brother’s meat-packing facilities over one-hundred years ago, and its interior design highlights the building’s old charms in a style that one reviewer lovingly described as “steampunk meets lounge.” With plans for hosting DJs and bands on weekend evenings and a computer loaded with hand-selected tunes for the balance of the week, music is an important component of the restaurant’s casual, hip atmosphere. Austin’s DB Commercial AV designed and installed a killer sound reinforcement system centered on Ashly Audio’s Pema combination DSP/multi-channel amplifier and KLR Series high-efficiency amplifiers.

SYMETRIX JUPITER 8 PROCESSOR DELIVERS AUDIOPHILE QUALITY FOR HOME THEATER SYSTEMS

jupiter_hometheater.JPGWINTER PARK, FLORIDA – MAY 2012: Storch Entertainment Systems was recently contacted by Phil Kean Designs, the builder of a luxury home, in Winter Park, Florida. The homeowner, a passionate music lover, was eager to possess a world-class media room with sound reproduction so faithful it would rival even the great control rooms of the world. Michael Storch, owner of Storch Entertainment Systems and kindred media-phile, oversaw the room’s design, calling in experts such as Michael Chafee to help make the room absolutely perfect. In addition to superlative acoustical design and top-of-the-line components, the room benefitted, in Storch’s words, “by an order of magnitude” from Chafee’s careful system calibration using a Symetrix Jupiter 8 digital signal processor that resides between the Denon surround-sound processor and the self-powered Genelec loudspeakers.

“The idea was to recreate the listening environment that the mix engineer of the more

NEW ASHLY COMMERCIAL MIXER/AMPLIFIER ENDS UP IN FUNERAL HOME

hillcrest.JPGBEDFORD PARK, OHIO – MAY 2012: With increasing frequency, the administrators at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Bedford Heights, Ohio were hearing the same simple request; a request they could not properly fill. During visitation prior to a funeral, the bereaved asked to play their own music. Very often, it was the music cherished by the deceased or music that was especially grounding in such a trying time. But beyond supplying an inelegant boom box, Hillcrest had no infrastructure for music playback. The administrators called on Audio Video Interiors and Safety Technologies (AVIST) of nearby Middleburg Heights, Ohio to provide a cost-effective solution. AVIST director Gary Matthews designed a simple, robust system around the new 3-input, 1-output Ashly Audio TM-360 public address mixer/amplifier.

“I have a lot of customers who are looking for very simple, very cost-effective solutions for straightforward sound reinforcement situations,” more
