Visual Unity and PROVYS Announces Their Strategic Partnership at NAB 2013

Las Vegas, Nevada, April 8th, 2013: Multiscreen solution provider Visual Unity has partnered with media software solutions provider PROVYS by integrating Visual Unity’s next generation vuMedia™ Over the Top (OTT) platform with PROVYS’ advanced broadcast management and planning system.
This ground-breaking joint venture between Visual Unity and PROVYS will be on show at NAB 2013 at the PROVYS booth (N5818).

Visual Unity’s vuMedia™ offers the ability to manage and monetize audio, video and image libraries – quickly and easily. This Cloud-based service alleviates the need for businesses to build an expensive, in-house and resource-intensive media library by allowing content owners and distributors to publish content online. The platform also supports live streaming of High Definition video. Graphics and other audio and visual material can be associated with files, for brand promotion or to generate advertisement revenue.

PROVYS’ software solution provides broadcasters with the mature and robust channel management and advertisement sales tools needed to increase productivity and gain strategic insight into business processes.
Integration of vuMedia™ with PROVYS is seamless. No additional inputs are required. Customers who choose PROVYS with vuMedia™ will have front-end access to their own catalogue, charts and metadata, as well as a video player with a smart URL, which will allow movies to be played on a variety of different devices. Other vumedia™ features such as statistical analysis, advertisement injection and social network integration are also available, bringing the full power of OTT to a much wider audience.

Tomas Petru, CEO of Visual Unity, says: “This is a significant development for PROVYS’ customers as it offers a completely automated online video platform where content can be managed centrally, thus saving time, equipment cost and manpower. It will also increase business bandwidth by providing broadcasters with an easy and effective way to utilize all their content rights.”

The new solution is completely connected to Visual Unity’s content delivery Network (CDN) module, vuNet™, with connectors to other worldwide CDN’s such as Akamai, Limelight, Level3, Du and MediaNova.
Josef Vasica, CEO of PROVYS comments, “We are delighted to present the results of our common development at our booth. Visual Unity brings years of OTT expertise and breath of services that complement our own. This as a triple win situation for all: PROVYS, Visual, and our customers. The combined best practices allow us to build even better products, services and overall solutions for our clients.”

Gabriel Dusil, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Strategy, adds: “This is an exciting joint project we have developed with PROVYS, and we see it as a major endorsement of our vuMedia™ OTT platform. Our joint offering is a solution that speaks to what is at the top of the broadcaster’s agenda – a Cloud-based service that allows them to maintain rights to their content, while providing flexible methods to monetize their content onto multiple screens.”

NAB2013: Vizrt Introduces Virtual SloMo and Motorsports to Viz Libero 5.5

See us in Las Vegas, April 8th – 11th 2013. Booth SL3305

During live sporting events, broadcasters go to great lengths to enrich the viewing experience with slo-mo replays, telestration, and in-game graphics to explain controversial and key plays. While these effects often require placing costly or complex broadcast cameras and calibration devices around the stadium or hiring specialized services, Viz Libero gives viewers this sameinsight by processing existing video.

Virtual SloMo

At the 2013 NAB Show, Vizrt will present the new features and workflow improvements in Viz Libero 5.5, its 3D virtual sports enhancement and analysis system. Viz Libero 5.5 now offers Virtual SloMo, which uses an advanced image-based algorithm to generate ultra-slow motion (up to 1500 fps) footage rather than relying on high-speed camera systems. Virtual SloMo and other Viz Libero 3D replay tools can be used on any live camera image or remote video feed.

Grass Valley K2 Summit / Dyno Integration

Viz Libero 5.5 adds integration with the Grass Valley K2 Summit media server and K2 Dyno replay system, both of which are widely used in studio and remote sports production environments. It also improves integration with the entire Vizrt product family, including Viz Engine 3.6 for real-time 3D graphics and video compositing. This enables customized graphics to be rendered through a Viz Engine for greater creative control, inserting virtual presenters into the analysis clips, and the ability to present analysis scenes on interactive touchscreens.

New support for Motorsports, tennis, cricket and other sports

Viz Libero 5.5 adds in-game 3D virtual sports toolsets geared to motorsports, tennis, cricket, field hockey as well as Australian football. The system already supports many others, such as football, American football, ice hockey, baseball, basketball, and volleyball.

New and improved effects

Viz Libero has been enhanced by many new in-game effects which help viewers to understand the different sports. These features include, among others, height measurement, ball impact, blocking wall, player grow, or zone focus. Many of the Viz Libero features, such as player marker, labels or offside and 3D wall, now have a customization interface within Viz Libero.

The Virtual Run that animates player movement, one of the big innovations in 2012, has received improvements. Besides simpler handling of the Virtual Run, new elements like a strobe effect have been added.

An existing feature, the 3D Ball Track, can now be created with only one camera feed. This makes the feature faster, and more readily available, even for studio productions with only one multilateral camera signal.

Improved workflow tools

File-based workflows, including video file ingest and output, are also improved for simplified studio integration. Viz Libero 5.5 expands supported output formats to include: Apple RLE/MOV, DNxHD/MOV, and DVC Pro 100/MXF.

The new version also adds a visual editor timeline, which accelerates post-editing of analysis clips. The timeline provides a graphical overview of the playlist including all recorded annotations and tracks so operators can edit and synchronize any graphics, 3D flights, or other elements.

With these latest 3D sports analysis features, tools, and workflow improvements, Viz Libero 5.5 enables broadcasters to enhance their live sports shows with greater creative latitude and cost-efficiency.

NAB2013: Digital Nirvana to Introduce Version 3.2 of the Monitor IQ Broadcast Monitoring System

New features include: Web Captioning, Program Guide Extraction,
Hybrid Appliance and Monitor IQ Infrastructure Self-Check

Newark, CA – Digital Nirvana will highlight key new features in Version 3.2, the latest release of its Monitor IQ broadcast monitoring solution at the 2013 NAB Show (Booth N3434) from April 8-11th at the Las Vegas Convention Center. These new features are a direct result of customer feedback received since the last version of the software was released at IBC 2012.

“At NAB, broadcasters will see demonstrations of our new Monitor IQ features and learn how they benefit a broadcaster’s logging, monitoring, and compliance workflow,” said Hiren Hindocha, president and CEO of Digital Nirvana. “Our NAB exhibit will demonstrate how diligently we address customer suggestions for new features like the ones we’ve included in Version 3.2. This on-going product development is part of our mission to deliver the industry’s most innovative, customer-focused and cost-effective solutions.”

Monitor IQ Release 3.2 Features

Web Captioning generates captions in the Timed Text Format (SMTPE-TT) from the broadcast closed captioning for association with the content repurposed for the web. This ensures that Web programming complies with new FCC Web captioning mandates and provides a valuable service to hearing impaired viewers.

Program Guide Extraction enables recording by program as well as by time segments. It automatically extracts Event Information Tables (EIT) from the PSIP (Program and System Information Protocol) program guide embedded in the ATSC transport stream. This feature simplifies program searching and recording without requiring a paid subscription to a third-party source for program extraction .

Hybrid Appliance allows users to mix and match different signal inputs, such as ASI, HD/SDI, and ATSC/QAM, in one server. By using one server for multiple signal inputs, customers can reduce equipment costs, lower power and maintenance costs, and save valuable rack space.

Monitor IQ Infrastructure Self-Check proactively monitors the total health of the Monitor IQ infrastructure. It automatically performs over forty types of ongoing system checks, including CPU, RAM, and power levels, and automatically alerts users when the system needs maintenance.

About Monitor IQ

Monitor IQ combines the functionality of full-resolution HD/SD content recording, content searching, retrieval and repurposing, Web publishing, signal monitoring, air-check logging, archiving, and ad verification and tracking, as well as competitive analysis in a scalable networked solution. It’s the only broadcast monitoring system that provides centralized management, automatic ad detection, a director’s audio track, as well as an advanced Metadata Harvester.

The system has been divided into four packages so that a wide range of broadcasters can take advantage of the company’s technology: Monitor IQ Starter, Monitor IQ Essentials, Monitor IQ Plus, and Monitor IQ Premier.

About Digital Nirvana

Since 1996, Digital Nirvana has been empowering customers with innovative knowledge management technologies. By combining media and digital technology expertise, Digital Nirvana makes it possible for organizations to streamline operations and gain competitive advantage with advanced product and service offerings. The company’s portfolio includes the industry-leading Monitor IQ broadcast monitoring system, AnyStream IQ live stream monitoring solution, MediaPro content repurposing system, and repeat audio detection systems (RADS) for song tracking and ad tracking. Zylight Upgrades Product Line for NAB 2013

LOS ANGELES – Zylight, a leading manufacturer of innovative LED lighting solutions, will debut new accessories and configurations for its current product line, formally introduce its F8 LED Fresnel, and announce lower prices on select products at the 2013 NAB Show (Booth C5446), which runs April 8-11 in Las Vegas, Nev.

The IS3c LED light, an updated version of Zylight’s acclaimed IS3 large panel cyclorama and beauty light, now ships with a custom soft box produced exclusively by Chimera for Zylight. The fully dimmable IS3c is a wide, high-output soft light with built-in controls for adjusting color temperature, color correction, and Zylight’s Color Mode, which produces millions of colors without gels or filters.

“We’ve made some software improvements, but the big difference our customers will see is the Chimera softbox as part of thepackage,” said Charlie Collias, senior vice president, worldwide sales. “The IS3c is great for many setups, but some beauty shots require the diffused uniform light you get from a softbox. That’s where this new standard configuration really shines – the new IS3c provides the versatility to handle studio cyc wall washing as well as productions where a large soft light source is needed.”

Zylight will also unveil an optional travel case for its compact Z90 LED light. Available in DV, ENG, and DP configurations, the new case features custom foam cutouts for secure storage of the Z90 and its accessories. The versatile Z90 can instantly switch between daylight and tungsten, and offers full Color Mode output with separate hue and saturation control.

After showing a proof of concept at the NAB Show last year, Zylight will formally introduce its 2013 F8 LED Fresnel in tungsten (3200K) and daylight (5600K) versions. For easy transport and storage, the rugged F8 collapses to less than four inches thick. It is also water resistant (IP54 rated) for use in challenging environments, and can be powered by a worldwide AC adapter or standard 14.4V camera battery. The fully dimmable F8 is also equipped with an eight-inch SCHOTT glass lens, maintains traditional Fresnel beam shaping, and offers a patented focusing system for spot and flood operations.

To help introduce the F8, two invited speakers will share their shooting experiences at Zylight’s NAB booth. On Monday, April 8, at noon, Boston-based DP Tom Guilmette will discuss how the new Zylight F8 performed in the unforgiving weather conditions at the top of Mount Washington. Matt Kearney, vice president of Fastec Imaging, will show how his company’s ultra-portable TS3Cine high-speed handheld camera works with Zylight’s flicker-free LED lights on Tuesday, April 9, at 1 p.m.

Zylight will also debut new lower pricing at the show. The new IS3c with custom softbox has an MSRP of $2,699, while the Z90’s MSRP has been reduced to $935. The new custom Z90 travel case has an MSRP of $279 and will be available in May. The F8 has an MSRP of $2,400 and will ship in June, but NAB attendees can receive a $200 rebate on all F8 orders through May 15.

Ciphertex Debuts Portable, Secure NAS Server at NAB

NAB Booth SL12510

CX-6K-AV 24TB Designed to Meet Needs of Entertainment-Media Industry

(LOS ANGELES,CA) Ciphertex, the global provider of unique hardware-encrypted storage products, will unveil the CX-6K-AV at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 8-11. This new 24TB portable, highly secure NAS server is ideal for backup, disaster recovery and business continuity, file sharing and virtualization, will be showcased at booth #SL12510, along with the company's full line of encrypted digital storage solutions.

"The Ciphertex CX-6K-AV is a compact, lightweight, high-performance server designed for directors, producers, postproduction and archival facilities that need a secure, portable NAS server," says Jerry Kaner, CEO and founder of Los Angeles-based Ciphertex. "More than any other market, media and entertainment demands performance. What is unique about the CX-6K-AV is that our AES 256-bit encryption engine provides the high level of security with no loss of performance. The combination of portability, encryption and high performance are a first in a server for this market."

Ciphertex comes to the media and entertainment space with an uncommon level of experience. The company is the leading provider of secure, portable data storage systems using advanced hardware encryption for the forensics, oil and gas, government and healthcare market. The work in which they are engaged for those sectors demands an incomparable level and depth of security. For the entertainment industry, a natural outgrowth of their historical competencies, Ciphertex has been successfully collaborating with Universal, Sony, Warner Bros. and HBO.

Kaner notes that the Motion Picture Association of America statistics point to piracy costs in the U.S. of $58 billion annually, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce says that such piracy threatens 19 million American jobs. As digital picture capture dramatically increases across all production, secure digital storage of assets is a primary concern for on-set and near-set digital dailies and postproduction.

The Ciphertex CX-6K-AV server offers lightning fast transfer of video dailies, high bit-rate audio files, 3D renderings and other high-resolution content. It serves as both IP-SAN (iSCSI) and NAS, offering advanced RAID configuration with hot-swap capability. The cost-effective server can store HD video footage and transmit fully encrypted data using AES 256-bt encryption at an incredibly fast 1,000 MB/s over a 10 GbE network.

Ideal for the production ecosystem, the new NAS server is packed with security features to stop all unauthorized data access and prevent data breach even if the hard drives or the device is stolen. The dual OS embedded on the DOM architecture ensure redundancy. If one of the two operating systems fails, the other will boot up and operate normally while repairing the failed system. The dual Gb LAN ports can also be configured for failover, which allows the Ciphertex CX-6K-AV to sustain the failure of one network port and still provide continuous service.

The CX-6K-AV is VMware certified, Citrix XenServer ready, and Windows Hyper-V compliant. With an advanced Intel Core i3-3220, dual-core processor with 3.3 GHz, 2 GB DDR3 memory, it enables fast data transfers directly to any workstation via its 1GbE or 10 GbE interface and connects to external devices over eSATA or USB-3. The server easily accommodates three streams of 1080p24 at 16-bit RGB, three streams of 2K x 1,556p24 at 16-bit RGB or one stream of 4Kp24 (RED) at 10-bit RGB.

"Multiple users, such as teams of editors in different locations, can aggregate two units and have access to the same files for postproduction efficiency, business continuity and asset protection," says Kaner. "Data transfer to 4TB USB-3 also ensures fast movement of assets from location to location."

The Ciphertex CX-6K-AV's small footprint makes it quick and easy to set up and dismantle networks wherever they are required. The portable NAS server units are available with an air-tight, water-tight and shatter-resistant field kit to ensure reliability in all environments.

The CX-6K-AV is expandable with Ciphertex's 20TB CX-Ranger RAID for a total capacity of 44TB of algorithm-encrypted storage. Additional CX-6K-AV units can also be networked together.

For under $5,000 the Ciphertex CX-6K-AV server is expected to ship in late spring 2013.

About Ciphertex
Ciphertex was launched in 2011 and differentiates itself from the rest of the storage industry by securing data with real-time AES-256 encryption/decryption implemented in hardware in an ergonomically- designed, portable direct attached storage system and in software in powerful NAS systems. Ciphertex offers a full line of encrypted digital storage solutions ranging from a 1TB pocket drive to 48TB expandable, rack-mounted network servers.

Kodiak Mobile’s New GRIZZ HD Carries Latest FUJINON HD Telephoto and Wide-Angle ENG-Style Lenses

Wayne, N.J., March 25, 2013 – FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Optical Devices Division announced today that Kodiak Mobile—a mobile truck company based in Broken Arrow, OK and Intincifi LLC of Austin, TX—will unveil GRIZZ HD, a unique 45-foot HDTV production truck during the 2013 NAB Show, taking place from April 8 to 11, in Las Vegas.

GRIZZ HD carries seven Grass Valley LDK 3000+ cameras with three FUJINON XA77x9.5BESM HDTV telephoto field lenses with optical stabilization; three FUJINON ZA17x7.6BERM Select Series HDTV ENG style lenses with 2X extender and DigiPower Servo; and one FUJINON ZA12x4.5BERM Select Series HD ENG style super wide-angle lens with 2x extender and
DigiPower Servo. The latest FUJINON product line can be seen at the Fujifilm Optical Devices Division exhibit—booth C7525—at the Las Vegas Convention Center during the 2013 NAB Show.

“All three FUJINON lens models were new as of last NAB,” said David Kearnes, who co-owns Kodiak Mobile with Paul Bronsteader. “These FUJINON lenses offer the high-performance we need in a compact, lightweight, innovative design. In a way, they were everything GRIZZ HD was designed to be so that’s why we felt they’d be a great fit.”

Lisa Kirtley, co-owner at Intincifi, the Austin-based firm that managed the entire GRIZZ HD project, including the design, build, and systems integration. “With its fresh, ground-up design, GRIZZ HD hits a sweet spot in the market,” said Kirtley. “Compared to 53-foot expandos, this truck is more suitable for use at events and venues where space and budget pose constraints. But compared to smaller mobile units or production trailers, it’s fully equipped to handle the demands of live broadcasts such as college sports, corporate events, and music festivals.”

GRIZZ HD’s equipment complement also includes: a Grass Valley Kayenne 2.5 M/E 3Gb/s production switcher, Chyron Hyper X3 dual-channel graphics system, two EVS 6-channel XT Nano replay systems, a Calrec Omega Digital 5.1 audio console, a Tightrope ZePlay 8-channel replay system, and four 47-inch LCD flat-screen monitors capable of user-configurable multi-viewer displays.

“With its innovative design and dimensions, GRIZZ HD offers HD truck customers a viable, cost-effective new option for producing live shows and events,” said Thom Calabro, director of marketing and product development for the Optical Devices Division of FUJIFILM. “We’re proud that Intincifi and Kodiak Mobile selected FUJINON lenses and wish them all the best as they cut the ribbon and put GRIZZ HD on the road.”

GRIZZ HD will be on display during NAB 2013 and shown as part of a Special Invitation event Tuesday, April 9th from 4pm to 8pm, at the Hofbräuhaus on 4510 Paradise Road, Las Vegas. Food, beer, and wine will be served and a car service will be available to transport guests to and from the convention centers. Interested parties may schedule private demos for Wednesday, April 10th from 8am to 4pm at the same location by calling Lisa Kirtley at 512-917-3783 or Kodiak Mobile Co-Owner Paul Bronsteader at 630-805-1489.

From the Field to the Studio: Sound Devices Highlights Diverse Capabilities of Rack-Mounted PIX 260i at the 2013 NAB Show

File-Based Audio/Video Recorder Ideal For OB, In-Studio and Post-Production Environments

LAS VEGAS, APRIL 2, 2013 — Sound Devices, experts in portable audio and video products for field production, is taking its proven field technology into the studio with its PIX 260i Production Video Recorder at the 2013 NAB Show (Booth C2849). Based on Sound Devices’ PIX 240i Recorder, the rack-mounted PIX 260i is a file-based audio/video recorder that seamlessly replaces tape-based video decks in production and post-production environments. Currently shipping, PIX 260i also offers 32 tracks of audio record/playback as well as control functionality from browser-capable computers and tablets.

The PIX 260i brings the features and tools needed by production companies and broadcasters looking to migrate to file-based recording and playback environments. The PIX 260i records QuickTime files in either Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD video formats. Files recorded in these intra-frame codecs are ready for editing directly from the recorder in common editing environments, such as Avid, Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere, eliminating time-consuming transferring and transcoding. For color-critical applications, the PIX 260i supports Apple ProRes 4444 through its 12-bit, 4:4:4 3G-SDI I/O. Users can also play out files from the PIX 260i for real-time applications.

PIX 260i recorders can be controlled from browser-capable computers and tablets. When connected to a data network, transport controls and setup menu controls are available on the Sound Devices PIXNET, which offers IP-addressable control of one or multiple PIX 260i recorders. Users can group multiple units for simultaneous control. Data drives connected to PIX 260i are also accessible on Ethernet-based networks as read-only SMB shares, opening up endless possibilities for file sharing. Files can be copied from any PIX 260i located on a network, enabling access from across a room or the globe.

Up to four SATA drives can be connected to the PIX 260i simultaneously. For RAID-type redundancy and to eliminate the need for post-record copying when multiple copies are required, users can record to all four drives simultaneously.

Building on the company’s deep heritage in production sound, Sound Devices has infused the PIX 260i with 32-track record/playback capabilities. In addition to 16 channels of embedded SDI audio and eight channels of HDMI audio, the PIX 260i also accepts eight channels of line-level analog I/O and eight channels of AES digital audio. Using Dante, the PIX 260i can accept and transmit up to 32 channels of audio over Ethernet.

With its extensive control capabilities, the PIX 260i is a flexible video playback source. The PIX 260i can be controlled by both external RS-422 and via Ethernet through PIXNet.

The PIX 260i includes a built-in Ambient Clockit time-code generator/reader with genlock output for rock-steady, multi-camera and double-system sound applications. In addition to generating ultra-stable time code, time codes can be read from the SDI stream, the HDMI stream or from an external source.

Like the PIX 220i and PIX 240i, the PIX 260i includes a sophisticated scaler and frame-rate converter. Regardless of the incoming signal, the PIX recorders can record the signal after up-, down- or cross-conversion at the same or a different rate. Hardware-based 3:2 pull-down removal and anamorphic conversion is also available.

PIX 260i’s convenient half-rack, 2U chassis dimension allows it to be easily integrated into any existing environment. It is powered by 10-27 VDC through its four-pin XLR connector. Sound Devices’ PIX-RACK accessory includes one full 2U rack, which can hold two PIX 260is.

Sound Devices, LLC designs and manufactures portable audio mixers, digital audio recorders, and digital video recorders and related equipment for feature film, episodic television, documentary, news-gathering, and acoustical test and measurement applications. The fourteen-year old company designs and manufactures from their Reedsburg, Wisconsin headquarters with additional offices in Madison, WI and Highland Park, IL.
