The RF Central microLite HD Elite system is a complete video RF link in a portable package, with all required accessories specifically chosen to optimize total system performance. Featuring IMT’s award-winning microLite HD Transmitter and microLite HD Receiver, this complete setup includes hand selected antennas that are optimized for high gain, durability and low weight, providing exceptional range without compromising microLite HD’s signature portability. The microLite HD ultra-compact MPEG-4 COFDM digital transmitter can deliver up to 200mW from a package of less than 12 cubic inches. The latency is less than four frames in low latency setting. It also features superb H.264 HD and SD encoding capabilities while operating in the standard 2k DVB-T COFDM mode. The H.264 video encoder supports the main profile of the H.264 standard, providing a 30-percent bit rate reduction or video quality improvement compared to encoders, which only support the H.264 baseline profile.

Another hallmark feature of the microLite HD Elite system is its ergonomic mounting. The adjustable magic arm mount, from sister company Manfrotto, allows users to confidently set up the system and be sure that it is safe and secure at all times. This allows users to place the receiver in demanding locations and know that it will stay in place and achieve optimal reception.
The transmitter mounting is lightweight and has simplicity at its core. To keep the microLite truly “light,” a camera shoe bracket attaches to a Litepanels Micro light, providing just the right support with minimal added weight to the handheld camera.

In addition, a configurable DC power cabling system and AC power supply allows many options when connecting the system in the field. The adapters and cables can be mixed and matched between the receiver and transmitter for total flexibility, ensuring the user won’t get caught with mismatched power cables ever again.

The entire microLite HD Elite system is packaged in a waterproof pelican case that can go anywhere. The case is custom fitted for all the accessories and has extra space for cables and adapters.

Renton School District Selects IMT and Meraki for Wi-Fi Network

Nation’s First Campus-Wide 3-stream 802.11n Network

Renton School District in Washington state’s King County selected Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT) to implement Meraki’s MR24 cloud-controlled wireless access points to provide enterprise-class WiFi to all of Renton’s 16,000 students, faculty and staff.  Now equipped with the nation’s first campus-wide 3-stream 802.11n network, Renton School District has it installed at 29 sites, including elementary, middle, and high schools in and around the city of Renton.

“We want to put new technology in the hands of the students,” explained Stosh Morency, Renton’s IT Director.  “It’s a ‘bring your own device concept’ and by having the wireless network across all of our buildings, it opens the door for projects that were never an option before.  For us as a school district, we want to provide access to all of the students, regardless of where they are in the buildings.”

“This was one of our biggest projects,” remarked Garth Gilmour, IMT’s VP Professional Services. “The deployment makes Renton the first school district to adopt the latest generation of WiFi, featuring 3-stream, 900 Mbps performance.”  The award-winning Meraki Enterprise Cloud Controller centrally manages a total of 437 of Meraki’s high performance MR24 access points.

“New technology projects always have challenges,” added Morency, “but IMT and Meraki made it much easier to deal with.  The Meraki tools made it easier to troubleshoot problems and the IMT team was totally committed to the success of the project.”

“Through IMT’s thorough research and exacting implementation, Meraki allows me to manage the network across the entire district, and I’m a team of one,” said Todd Baker, Network Administrator for Renton School District. “The capabilities of Meraki’s Cloud Controller are considerable. There’s one dashboard for everything, from provisioning APs to troubleshooting client issues.”

The Meraki MR24, an ultra high-performing 3-stream 802.11n access point, is ideal for dense classroom environments and high-bandwidth applications.  Renton is deploying 437 access points, providing campus-wide coverage for its Computer on Wheels (COW) program, which provides classrooms with “COW carts” to stream video, data and other media.

With IMT’s help, Renton leveraged Meraki’s contract with the Washington Learning Source (WLS), which facilitates deployments for Washington state school districts. Prior to selecting Meraki, Stosh Morency and Todd Baker carefully evaluated a number of networking vendors, testing WiFi range, throughput, signal strength, and interference.

The ease of use and reliability of Meraki’s cloud controller impressed Baker. “I’ve had a controller go bad on me in the past.  With Meraki’s cloud controller, I’ll never have to deal with that again,” Baker said.  IT Director Stosh Morency added, “And the lifetime warranty of the products was a key factor in our decision making process.”

Clear-Com Unveils V-Series Rotary Panels and E-MADI Card for Eclipse at the 2012 NAB Show

Provides Greater Flexibility and Control, Improving Production Workflow

LAS VEGAS, APRIL 10, 2012 ─ Clear-Com, a global leader in critical voice communication systems, will unveil at the 2012 NAB Show (Booth C8008) two additions to its Eclipse digital matrix intercom family, including a new line of V-Series rotary panels and the Eclipse MADI (E-MADI) card. The new V-Series rotary panels provide users with optimal control over audio level adjustments while the E-MADI card supplies 64 MADI channels per card from the Eclipse-Median or Omega digital matrix frames to achieve higher levels of connectivity during production.

V-Series Rotary Panels
The addition of the V-Series rotary panels to the existing V-Series pushbutton and lever key panels presents broadcasters with the widest range of user control key panel options. When using the new V-Series rotary panels, site technicians and more importantly, the production team can quickly and independently adjust system audio levels from one or more audio sources, including external lines, partylines and intercom from other local and remote control panels. They also support faster and easier audio mixing for IFB assignments, enabling a more efficient production workflow in the fast-paced broadcast environment.

Available in 1RU, 2RU, desktop and extension panel variants, the V-Series rotary panels feature push-listen with mix control knob and a separate push-talk button for easy-to-use, intuitive talk-and-listen monitoring. Colored LEDs show keys that are active, who is calling and what the talk key is programmed to do. V-Series rotary panels have a dual use as intercom and/or assignment panels for IFBs, partylines and groups, even when using expansion panels.

E-MADI Card
Designed in a 6RU form like the other frame cards for the Eclipse-Omega and Eclipse-Median, the E-MADI provides connection with standard MADI devices. The new E-MADI card offers full user set-up and can be configured through the Eclipse Configuration Software (ECS) to supply up to 64 full channels of digital four-wire connectivity per card. E-MADI cards are used to route talent and other incoming feeds across the intercom system for monitoring and the insertion of IFB.

Other key features include sample frequency choices of 44.1, 48 and 96 kHz, a selectable channel/port quantity of 32, 48, 56 and 64, VOX on all 64 inputs, a fiber (MM) SFP duplex LC removable transceiver module and BNC MADI in and BNC out. Users can derive channel labels from a third-party device and can use the MADI channels for high-capacity trunking or audio distribution. The E-MADI card can use AES word clock, SD NTSC/PAL video or Tri-level HD.

FOR-A Introduces Compact HD/SD Frame Rate Converter

Fort Lee, New Jersey – FOR-A Company Limited, a leading manufacturer of video and audio systems for the broadcast and professional video industries, today announced the FRC-30 HD/SD frame rate converter, which will be showcased at the 2012 NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 16-19 (Booth C5219). Packaged in a compact form factor (1 RU high, 1/2 RU wide), the new FRC-30 can be switched between motion compensation and linear conversions to deliver optimal results for various source material.

In motion compensation mode, the FRC-30 detects the motion vector amount of a moving object and generates its motion in frames. In linear conversion mode, frame conversion is based on previous and next frames. Built-in up/down/cross converters deliver SD to HD, HD to SD, and 1080i to 720p conversions as well. The FRC-30 supports several video formats – 1080/59.94i, 1080/50i, 1080/23.98PsF, 720/59.94p, 720/50p, 525/60, and 625/50 – and includes HD/SD-SDI and analog composite I/O.

Seaside Church Revamps Audio System

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, New Jersey—St. Thomas The Apostle Church is located in the shore community of Brigantine, New Jersey. During the summer months, the church congregation swells to about 3,000 from approximately 1,000 attendees in the off-season, due to residents that flock to the ocean community from May through September. “The existing church space could not accommodate the increase in congregation, so they decided to expand services by constructing an overflow event center,” states Bobby Harper, V.P. of Sales, ACIR Professional. “ACIR Professional was hired to expand the church audio requirements in order to tie the event center to the main sanctuary through a video and audio feed, as well as to renovate the main sanctuary to accommodate more of the congregation.”

Phase One of the enhancement to St. Thomas The Apostle Church included the installation of a 5.1 audio system for playback of media for non-service affairs, as well as a portable audio and video system to handle church services for overflow, and other events such as weddings, meetings, etc. ACIR accomplished this with the installation of a Yamaha MG series mixer, Eiki Projector, JBL ceiling and wall speakers, JBL portable PRX12M and PRX18 speakers, and Sennheiser wireless microphones. “The church budget was influential in the requirement criteria,” says Harper. “The combination of equipment used fulfilled the budget requirements as well as the quality and portability requirements.”

Phase Two was to renovate the existing sanctuary. The interior of the church was modified slightly with the addition of Naves on Altar L+R. The entire floor was converted from carpet to marble, so an affordable, yet highly intelligible distributed speaker system from Community Professional was used. This system is also driven by a Yamaha MG series mixer (for a total of three Yamaha mixers throughout the premises), and includes a Community DSpec processor, all powered by Yamaha P series amplifiers (four in total). “Sennheiser wireless microphones were chosen for their clarity,” adds Harper, “and Shure MX series boundary mics are utilized on the altar, pulpit, and choir area.”

While Phase Two was taking place, the sanctuary was moved to the overflow event center. Because audio I/O panels were placed throughout the room, the church was able to setup a portable sanctuary and perform services as needed, while waiting for the renovation of the main sanctuary to take place. Once the main sanctuary was complete, the services were moved back to the church, with feeds continually sent to the overflow event center.

“The sound system is awesome in the church and the hall,” states Mary Jane Morey, Director of Liturgy and Music. ACIR was exceptional to work with and unbelievably knowledgeable. I was able to contact them with concerns during the installation process and initial use of the system 24/7.”

SIM2 Partners with goHDR for world first in television technology at NAB 2012

Miramar, Florida—April 2012—Innovative television technology that’s as clever as the human eye is to be showcased by University of Warwick spinout company goHDR at the NAB Show® in Las Vegas, later this month. SIM2’s first High Dynamic Range Display, the HDR47E monitor, will be used in the demonstration showing the HDR content produced by goHDR.

goHDR will provide the world with its first glimpse of High Dynamic Range (HDR) video, screened on the SIM2 HDR display, enabling viewers to see images with exceptional lighting detail. goHDR is developing compression technology that will enable the huge data streams produced by HDR video cameras to be displayed on a TV screen.

“We are proud to be part of goHDR’s new video technology showcase in Las Vegas. Alan Chalmers, Professor of Visualization at WMG, University of Warwick and Innovation Director at goHDR, explains: “High Dynamic Range video is the next big step in TV imaging – similar to the change from black and white to color TV. For the first time, viewers will be able to see scenes on TV just as they would in real life, without losing detail in the glare of bright sunlight or in deep shadow.”

“The data stream produced by HDR cameras is huge – equivalent to a CD worth of data per second. To address this issue, goHDR has produced two products: an Encoder which compresses the data to allow it to be transferred to a display, and a Media Player, which reverses the process and allows the pictures to be viewed with all the glorious lighting detail preserved,” says Professor Chalmers.

“We are very excited to be working with SIM2 to display HDR content on the world’s first commercial HDR display,” says Professor Chalmers. “TV viewers will get an exclusive glimpse at the significant difference that this technology will make to their viewing experience. HDR is coming. At NAB you will be able to see what the future will be like.”

Over the past two years goHDR has had exclusive access to the world’s first true HDR video camera, built by German company SpheronVR, and has produced a number of short films to showcase the technology. This will be the first time the company has been able to demonstrate its work, using SIM2’s HDR47E monitor, to a wide audience, outside the laboratory.

The film clips produced by goHDR are also available on the company’s website (www.gohdr.com) where they have been specially treated, using a technique called tonemapping, to give an idea of what they would look like on an HDR display.
