NAB 2012: Hitachi Augments Its Offerings with Introduction of Three HDTV Cameras for Sports and Field Production Companies

WOODBURY, NEW YORK – Among the product highlights at the NAB 2012 Booth of Hitachi Kokusai Electric America, Ltd., will be the U.S. introduction of a slow-motion HD camera capable of capturing video at 2.5X and 3X the speed of standard frame rate cameras. The SK-HD1500 uses standard 2/3-inch Bayonet mount lenses and integrates easily into existing Hitachi SK-series camera infrastructures. Also to be introduced will be the new HV-HD33 – a compact, 3-MOS sensor, multi-standard, P.O.V. HD camera – and the super-small, self-contained, signal sensor KP-HD20A HD camera.

Hitachi Kokusai Electric America will exhibit in booth #C4309 at the annual NAB convention, running from April 14th-19th at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Several recently introduced multi-format cameras will also be in the Hitachi NAB 2012 booth this year. Those include: the SK-HD1200 native 1080/60p studio and EFP camera; SK-HD1000 dockable studio and field camera, SK-HD2000 native 1080/60i studio and field production camera, Z-HD5000 HDTV studio and field camera, DK-H200, DK-H100 and the DK-Z50 multi-purpose HDTV camera.

“We anticipate a tremendous reaction from sports producers and mobile truck companies to our new slow motion camera and a lot of excitement from the broadcast, security, and industrial markets over the cost-effective HV-HD33,” said Sean Moran, Hitachi Kokusai Electric America’s National Sales Manager. “I’m positive this will be a very strong show for us. We’ve incorporated feedback from our customers, and now we get to show off the results of our efforts.”

The SK-HD1500 slow motion HD camera rounds out Hitachi’s offerings to mobile truck companies and sports producers. Hitachi now provides a comprehensive model line of HDTV cameras suitable for mobile sports and field production companies.

The SK-HD1500 has three 2.3Mpixel 2/3-inch, progressively scanned IT-CCDs. Like its sibling, the SK-HD1200, it has state-of-the-art, digital-to-analog, 16-bit RGB converters that further improves the dynamic range, signal-to-noise, and color fidelity. It is capable of 6Gbps transmission over SMPTE standard optical fiber. Hitachi assures compatibility with most slow-motion servers capable of 3X SMPTE292M 1.5Gbit/second HD-SDI links. This new slow motion HDTV camera can record at speeds of 150 and 180 frames per second, and its outputs are digital HD/SD video at 1080i, 720p and 480i all at 59.94 or 50Hz field rate. The SK-HD1500 employs the control panels, viewfinders, studio build-up kits and accessories of the existing Hitachi SK-series cameras. The SK-HD1500′s sensitivity is F9 at 2000 lux with a signal-to-noise ratio of -58dB. The camera has 1100 TVL of standard resolution.

First introduced at IBC 2011, orders for the SK-HD1500 have already been placed by Saudi TV, the Arabic news and entertainment channel in Saudi Arabia. Saudi TV has approximately 150 Hitachi studio cameras, along with a new 16-camera OB truck, and two five-camera DSNG trucks. Delivery of the SK-HD1500 cameras will begin in March 2012.

The new Hitachi HV-HD33 is designed for general observation where high sensitivity, low-noise, multi-standard signals, and low-user intervention operation are required. The HV-HD33 finds applications in a variety of environments, including: remote observation, in-studio use, point-of-view use, unmanned vehicles, robotic systems and industrial applications like factory automation, high-end monitoring and medical imaging. The HV-HD33 is Hitachi’s most economical 3-MOS sensor, compact HDTV box camera. It uses a 1/3-inch C-mount lens. The camera has the distinct advantage of outputting SDI at multiple frame rates and TV signal standards. The user interface is menu-driven and functions are available for complete automated “dusk-to-dawn” operation without supervision. The sensor array is 1312(H) X 1032(V), SNR is 53dB and sensitivity is F8. A low power consumption of 8W and weight of 550 grams enables this camera to go where others with similar picture quality cannot.

For even more space- and price-constrained applications and budgets, the KP-HD20A offers excellent HDTV video from a single 2.1Mpixel, 1/3-inch color CMOS sensor. Full raster 1920(H) HD at 1080/ 59.94i, 50i and 1080/ 25p/ 30p can be transmitted through 100m of coax, making it an easy substitution for existing SD observation cameras. Full unattended imaging including contrast & backlight compensation make it ideal for inhospitable locations. Camera remote control is offered with both RS232C and RS485 protocols for easy integration into new or existing PTZF robotic systems.

Adult Living Sounds Better than Ever with StudioLive

Taramac, FL, March 2012… As the Baby Boomer generation has grown, adult-oriented communities have become larger and more sophisticated. South Florida has long been an epicenter of the 55-plus demographic, and Tamarac is one of its model communities. This town of 56,000, midway between Miami and Palm Beach, was voted one of the most livable cities in America by the U.S. Council of Mayors.

Tamarac is home to Kings Point, an upscale 55-and-over community that includes the Palace Theatre for the Performing Arts. Described by Production Manager Anthony Ezzo as “one of the best-kept secrets in show business,” the 1,000-seat multipurpose venue is an architectural gem, its soaring glass exterior surrounding an elegant, single-level auditorium that plays host to an active and varied roster of performances.

Ezzo, a veteran live-sound engineer whose credits include Julio Iglesias, Michelle Branch, Duran Duran, and Boys II Men, has been running the mix at the Palace since 1998. The theater recently upgraded its aging analog console, going digital with a PreSonus StudioLive 16.4.2 Performance and Recording Digital Mixer. As Ezzo explains, the diminutive console compared favorably to many consoles several times its price.

“Some of the other local theaters had been moving to digital consoles, and my boss asked me to get some prices,” he says. “I compared all the available digital solutions out there, and I was pretty much blown away when I heard the price on the StudioLive. For the features this mixer offered, nothing else even came close in terms of value for the money.”

StudioLive’s flexibility and built-in processing power were what immediately caught his eye, says Ezzo. “We do a lot of different types of shows here, from live music to theatrical presentations, spoken word, and movies. The ability to configure a live mix and monitor mix and record the show live, all with just a few clicks, is something I could never do with our old console. And being able to slap a compressor and EQ on every channel is huge.”

Multitracking any show live is more than just a novelty, he observes. “If we’ve got someone coming in for multiple dates, I can do a multitrack recording to Capture, and when the house is empty I can sit and fine-tune the mix. It gives me the opportunity to fool around with different EQs, compressors, and effects and try stuff I’d never have a chance to do during a live show.”

But, as Ezzo explains, what really sealed the deal was StudioLive’s highly evolved remote-mixing capabilities. “The first day I got the console, I set up the wireless control, sat in the audience with my wife’s iPad, and mixed the show. And not just channel levels; I had all the effects covered too. The people in the audience sitting near me were just blown away.”

Ezzo reports the theater’s management and staff are thrilled with the console’s performance. “I have two young assistants working with me, guys who went to audio school in Orlando. When we put in the StudioLive, they said, ‘wow, this job just got way cooler.’ In fact, we’re getting ready to pick up a second StudioLive to replace our analog monitor desk.”

Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. Announces Sports Digital Asset Management Service

Essential for the Successful Future of Teams, Leagues, Universities & Associations

Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT) has announced a new Sports Digital Asset Management Service specifically designed for the athletics industry.  For sports content owners and producers, having a digital asset management strategy has become an essential part of doing business and affects virtually every aspect of the organization’s operations and future multi-media ROI opportunities.

“A well designed digital asset management strategy gives a sports organization the ability to properly manage rich media assets” explained Mike Braico, EVP of Sales at IMT.  “Think life cycle of the production process, including acquisition, editing and distribution for all digital media files and the underlying metadata.”

IMT worked with the Tennis Channel to design and build a new state-of-the-art file-based workflow, which allows their broadcast operations, editorial, graphics, and post-production teams to share and archive content.

“Growth at our network required an expanded approach to production workflow and storage,” remarked Dean Hadaegh, Senior Vice President of Broadcast Operations and CTO, Tennis Channel.  “IMT quickly targeted our specific needs and came up with an across-the-board strategy that allowed us to re-design our operation without any downtime.”

IMT’s Sports Digital Asset Management Service takes advantage of new technologies and distribution outlets through a centralized efficient digital workflow. It also enables real time collaboration and coordination throughout the organization, capitalizing on video assets through increased output, accelerated operations, and optimum utilization of staff.

“Our new Sports Digital Asset Management Service focuses on protecting video assets for the long term,” emphasized Tom McGowan, IMT VP of Business Development, “and provides our clients with the ability to create new marketing capabilities and revenue streams through increased advertising inventory, sponsorship opportunities, in-venue promotions, social media exposure and e-commerce platforms across broadcast, web and mobile distribution platforms.”

IMT’s Sports Digital Asset Management Service drives new branding opportunities and significantly increases the ability to reach fans on any platform, and anywhere they want to enjoy content.   As an internal competitive benefit, Sports Digital Asset Management Service also enables management to provide the coaching staff and players with the latest tools and innovations for video capture and display in the locker rooms, coaches’ offices, team meeting rooms/theaters, family lounges and with minor league and remote scouting operations.
