Yamaha NUAGE Version 1.5 Announced Today

LAS VEGAS—In response to an overwhelmingly positive reaction, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. has announced Version 1.5 software of the NUAGE Advanced Production System. Available in May via free download, the new version will allow remote control of R Series audio interface head amplifiers from NUAGE Fader/Master control surfaces. In addition to providing a broader selection of I/O options for NUAGE systems, the software also allows Yamaha CL Series Digital Mixing Console inputs to be shared via a Dante network for significant system expansion capability.

Although NUAGE already allows switching between up to three different DAWs, with V1.5 the “NUAGE PT Bridge” driver for Avid Pro Tools control gains OSX 10.9 compatibility so that Pro Tools running on Mac platforms is fully supported. Also, adding Quick Control to the NUAGE Master unit, specified parameters can be assigned to the multi-function display so the user has even greater customization control. The NUAGE Master unit now has the ability to instantly access a vast range of VST instruments from the display and knobs for more efficient, effective sound crafting. The multi-function knobs will also provide as much as 512 times finer control than has been available in the Fine Mode.

“All of the powerful refinements in NUAGE V1.5 add up to enhanced efficiency and improved workflow for end users,” states Marc Lopez, marketing manager, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. “With ongoing feedback from the field, NUAGE will continue to evolve as the new standard for DAW system performance.”

Launched in 2012, the flexible NUAGE system features tight DAW software integration, groundbreaking operability, modular architecture, and Dante networking capability. NUAGE systems are currently being installed in audio post-production and recording facilities around the world.

For more information on NUAGE V1.5, visit Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. at NAB 2014, booth #C2143 or on the web at www.yamahaca.com.

General Cable Launches Gepco® Brand Stadium Cables at the 2014 NAB Show

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, APRIL 7, 2014 — General Cable is pleased to launch its line of Gepco® Brand Stadium Cables at the 2014 NAB Show (Booth #C7708) April 7-10, 2014. The new line of stadium cables allow for simplified installation of one cable across Direct Burial and Riser applications.

Typical indoor and outdoor applications require the installer to use different cables and splice the two together, requiring more time, while also making the installation vulnerable to signal loss or errors. With Gepco Brand stadium cables, the installer can run a single cable from the outside direct burial environments directly into buildings for riser applications, no splicing necessary.

Gepco stadium cables feature two-ply water-blocking tape and water-swellable fillers (audio only) for advanced water protection in direct burial installations while also retaining a CMR rating. Available in single-pair audio (61801SC), high-definition RG 11 coax (VHD1100SC) and RG 11 triax (VT61811SC), all Gepco Brand stadium cables are ideal for extended-distance runs.

“Gepco Brand stadium cables provide solid performance across two very different applications,” said Brian Lamar, Product Manager, General Cable Communications Products. “Gepco and General Cable are pleased to provide a solution that makes installation for stadiums and other outdoor venues quicker and easier.”

Gepco® Brand Plenum Hybrid Fiber Cable Debuts at the 2014 NAB Show

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, APRIL 7, 2014 — General Cable is pleased to announce the addition of the Gepco® Brand HDC920P Plenum Hybrid Fiber Camera Cable at the 2014 NAB Show (Booth #C7708) April 7-10, 2014. For permanent installation in plenum air spaces, the new HDC920P fiber optic and copper conductor hybrid fiber cable for SMPTE 311 applications features a flexible, white UL rated PVC jacket.

In the hybrid 311 format, the HD video signal is transmitted over two single-mode optical fibers to ensure accurate and extended-distance data transmission. To increase the durability, Gepco uses a special nylon-based polymer with increased tensile strength for the fiber coatings, and a 16 AWG steel strength member is cabled at the center of the cable core. All copper elements feature heat-resistant PE insulation and a shielded copper braid.

The HDC920P joins the complete line of Gepco Brand SMPTE 311 hybrid fiber camera cables. The HDC920 comes in an extra-flexible, abrasion-resistant TPE compound that is ideal for portable, studio and outdoor broadcast applications, while the HDC920R comes in a riser rated PVC outer jacket for permanent installation. Designed for permanent underground installation, the HDC920PEF has an extra-rugged polyethylene jacket and water blocking tape wrapped around the cable core. Heavy-duty versions with a modified construction for rugged environments are also available.

“The HDC920P adds to an already robust line of Gepco Brand Hybrid Fiber Camera Cables,” said Brian Lamar, Product Manager, General Cable Communications Products. “We are pleased to be able to provide a complete solution for any hybrid fiber application.”

Gepco® Brand Lightweight and Flexible 7.8 mm Hybrid Fiber Camera Cable Featured at NAB 2014

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, APRIL 7, 2014 — General Cable is pleased to demonstrate the flexible and lightweight, yet durable Gepco® Brand HDC720HD 7.8 mm Hybrid Fiber Cable at the 2014 NAB Show (Booth #C7708) April 7-10, 2014. Radically different from typical industry products but with the same performance characteristics of traditional SMPTE 311 cables, the HDC720HD 7.8 mm hybrid fiber cable is 16 percent smaller and 40 percent lighter in design. Visitors will be able to feel for themselves the differences in size, weight and flexibility of the HDC720HD compared to a typical portable 9.2 mm cable and how those differences add up when in use in the field.

The revolutionary construction of the HDC720HD starts with replacing the typical heavy steel strength member with a Kevlar® strength member that has the same pull strength of steel, but is lighter and more flexible. Unlike steel, Kevlar expands and contracts at the same rate as the glass members during temperature extremes, keeping the elements in the cable aligned reducing migration. Using Kevlar in place of steel also means the cable has virtually no memory making the cable easier to pay off, lay flat and wind back up on the drum.

For further durability, the HDC720HD utilizes bend-insensitive fiber elements with very low attenuation and a bend radius of 0.2 mm—versus 2.0 mm for traditional single-mode fiber—in a breakout style with additional Kevlar protection around the individual fibers.

In the HDC720HD, the typical outer braid is replaced with two 18 AWG drain wires and a foil shield that allow the cable to be more flexible, lighter and smaller in diameter. The power conductors consist of two
16 AWG conductors so you can still achieve the same distance a regular SMPTE 311 cable performs to. The master jacket of HDC720HD is polyurethane material with a glossy finish that reduces the pickup of dirt and debris from outside applications, making it easier to keep clean.

“The HDC720HD design provides a lightweight, flexible solution with the added bonus of reducing migration errors caused by temperature extremes,” said Brian Lamar, Product Manager, General Cable Communications Products. “This makes the HDC720HD extremely ideal for use in portable applications and with high-definition Steadicams.”

NAB 2014: Digital Nirvana Introduces FIFOPro Ingest Back-Up System for Broadcast Production

Creates edit-ready backups of all live ingested media, eliminating the need for manual recording, cataloging, storing and transcoding of back-up tapes

Fremont, CA – Digital Nirvana will give the broadcast industry its first look at the company’s new FIFOPro ingest back-up system at the NAB 2014 convention, to be held from April 5-10th at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Digital Nirvana will showcase this powerful new production tool in Booth #SU11017.

The FIFOPro system was engineered to streamline workflows for news departments and live production applications. Traditionally for SAN back up, broadcasters have relied on recording onto multiple tape decks, one for each feed, with station personnel completing the cumbersome tasks of loading, labeling, cataloging and storing each tape for back-up insurance. In this mode of operation, if the need arises to restore from tape, it must be manually de-archived, taken to the editing bay, loaded and then transcoded into the proper format prior to editing.

With the FIFOPro ingest back-up system, the workflow is automated. FIFOPro continually records and archives multiple HD-SDI feeds on a rolling First-in/First-out (FIFO) basis, retaining all content for 72 hours before deleting it from the system. This data is automatically recorded in an edit-ready AVCi 50 format along with its metadata, including channel, date and time. If original content is lost or damaged, it’s a simple process to find and access the stored media via web browser and export the selected clips to the watch folder for immediate editing.

By eliminating the need for multiple tape decks, transcoding and time-consuming metadata management, the FIFOPro ingest back-up system is the perfect solution to streamline workflows, save time, space and money.

Prism Sound Shows New Audio Interfaces at NAB 2014

After an exceptionally successful 12 month trading period, which culminated in a move to larger offices in the USA, internationally acclaimed manufacturer Prism Sound will be using the NAB 2014 platform to introduce post production and broadcaster engineers to its growing family of audio interfaces.

Alongside Orpheus, Lyra and Titan, the company will also be showing Atlas – the third new interface product that Prism Sound has launched in the last year.

“Launching three new products in such a short timeframe meant that our existing premises could no longer cope – to put it simply we needed more space,” says Janice Norton, Prism Sound’s VP US Operations. “We have moved to a larger, ground floor suite close to our former premises in Rockaway, New Jersey, and now have plenty of room to stock the extensive range of products that Prism Sound offers to both the recording and broadcast markets.”

Designed with Prism Sound’s latest and award-winning CleverClox clocking technology and incorporating eight of the company’s popular mic pre’s as standard, the new Atlas interface is aimed squarely at multitrack recording applications. It offers recording professionals ultimate quality analogue and digital I/O for Mac or Windows PC at sample rates up to 192kHz via a simple USB interface. In addition to the USB host interface, Atlas also features Prism Sound’s new MDIO interface expansion slot, which was first incorporated into Titan and announced at AES New York in October 2013. Using this miniature expansion slot users can, for example, directly connect to Pro Tools|HDX systems. A range of other MDIO interfaces is planned for later introduction. Atlas will also run with Apple and Windows native applications over USB.

Atlas, Titan and Lyra are all capable of aggregated operation in both MAC and Windows PC environments. This makes it possible to link up a number of different units for multichannel applications – for example 24 track, 32 track – or even bigger set-ups – while retaining a USB connection for each unit. In the Windows environment, Prism Sound provides a new driver that aggregates the units and presents a single multitrack interface to DAW applications for I/O routing.

At NAB 2014, Prism Sound is also showing its full range of Test & Measurement solutions, including the versatile dScope Series III Audio Analyzer. This award-winning unit features a freely-available test suite that can be used to evaluate the performance and compliance of any loudness meter on the market. As US broadcasters are now legally obliged to comply with the ATSC A/85 standards, Prism Sound’s test suite enables them to properly evaluate all loudness meters and ensure that their chosen product can deliver both ATSC and ITU BS.1770 compliance.

To find out more about the Prism Sound range and to demo the new Atlas interface, please visit NAB booth C1944. The company’s new address is Suite 1, 45 Pine Street, Rockaway, NJ 07866. The telephone and fax numbers remain the same.
