Situated in the resurgent neighborhood of El Poble-sec, Tickets and 41° share the same prestigious proprietors, a roof & a wall, and a hi-fi sound system that parallels the ultra-modern, utterly-hip décor. paul_kavicky.JPG

COLUMBUS, OHIO – MAY 2011: As the owner and operator of Paper Street Audio Company, Paul Kavicky has carved a satisfying niche for himself in the world of major theatrical productions, where he serves as production audio engineer and, beyond that, guru of all things audio. Indeed, his latest appointment with the Threesixty Theater’s production of Peter Pan has placed him at the FOH position for over 350 shows spanning four cities throughout the US in over a year-and-a-half. Much of Kavicky’s work back at his well-appointed home studio is related to the theater, creating and recording sound effects and voiceovers. After a thorough search of the available solutions, Kavicky leapt at Metric Halo’s FireWire interfaces. Citing superior audio quality, a road-worthy build, and rock-solid driver support, he outfitted Paper Street Audio Company with six Metric Halo interfaces with eight inputs/outputs each: four 2882s, one LIO-8, and one top-of-the-line ULN-8.

brown_vig_foos.JPG

JESSUP, MARYLAND – MAY 2011: Proof that analog audio is a powerful force in the digital age, the Foo Fighters’ recent analog effort, Wasting Light, debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart last month. The album, which moved more than 235,000 copies in its first week, was recorded and mixed completely on a 32-channel API 1608 console in frontman Dave Grohl’s untreated garage and spare room. Although many consoles would have fit Grohl’s spacing and input requirements, the API 1608 and its sixteen-channel expander stood out as the perfect mix of uncompromising professionalism, flexible topology and functional size.

“The API sound is great for rock,” said Wasting Light producer Butch Vig. “It’s not subtle and it’s not soft. When you turn the gain up on an EQ, you can really hear it. It’s musical. We drove the 1608 more

HOPEWELL JUNCTION, NEW YORK – MAY 2011: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals’ self-titled album – their third studio release – debuted at #19 on the US Billboard Top 200 upon its release and set the band off on a string of sold-out shows and television appearances that show no sign of slowing, including recent performances on The Late Show with David Letterman, Conan and Emmy-nominated music show Live from The Artists Den. The band’s brand of rock gives listeners plenty to hook into, and the live show amplifies that effect by the fiery charisma of lead singer Potter at her vintage Hammond B3 and her band of talented players. The group is currently packing theaters across the U.S., and it is easy to extrapolate that the next go-around will require much larger venues. “We have been using API gear for a long time,” said Alex Lyon, co-owner and co-engineer of The Bubble, “so we knew the sound and build quality were things we liked. We had never heard or seen a 1608, but just knowing it was an API was enough to sell us.”

The Bubble, which has recorded artists such as Jet, the Dandy Warhols, and Fastball, was acoustically designed by Mark Genfan at Acoustic Spaces to provide superior sound. According to Lyon, the studio’s new console is fitting right in with The more

nashville_rescue_mission.JPG

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – MAY 2011: The division of the Nashville Rescue Mission that serves men has been operating since 1954 and currently resides in the old Sears building, near the heart of Music City. Its 400-seat chapel is the spiritual gateway to the free services within, which include food, shelter, medical care and counseling. In order to secure a bed at the Mission, the homeless must simply attend a service. That commitment to spiritual enlightenment makes the Nashville Rescue Mission one of the busiest churches in the country, with a service offered 364 nights a year (only Super Bowl Sunday gets a rest!). Scott Oliver, a volunteer musician at the Mission and professional sound system designer and integrator at Nashville’s Pro Audio Solutions, recently turned the chapel’s tired, anemic old sound system into what many are proclaiming to be one of the best sounding rooms in Nashville with the help more
