ASHLY AUDIO ADMITTED TO WEST POINT

usmaps_exterior.JPGWEST POINT, NEW YORK: The United States Military Academy Prep School (USMAPS) provides critical academic training to promising students who aspire to be admitted to the US Army’s prestigious West Point Military Academy. Although the core institution of USMAPS has been around for nearly a century at various locations throughout the country, only recently did it commit to new construction in the town of West Point, New York, adjacent to the military academy. A multi-purpose lecture hall/ auditorium is the largest room in the new building (excepting sports-related facilities) and seats approx. 325 students. USMAPS hired New York-based Pro Sound Associates to integrate the room’s audio and video components, many of which were already purchased. Company owner Dominick Campana relied on an Ashly ne24.24M modular processor to tie the disparate pieces together in a way that would be reliable and easy for the school’s more

DANLEY DIALS IN STATE-OF-THE-ART SOUND AT KELOWNA CHRISTIAN CENTRE

kelowna_christiancentre_outside.JPGKELOWNA, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA: Kelowna Christian Centre (KCC) in Kelowna, British Columbia is many things to many people. It is a contemporary, charismatic church with services that feature a full band, high-energy worship, multi-media presentations, dramatic performances, and dance. It is also a school: kindergarten through twelfth grade for attending students and the largest online school in British Columbia for remote students. Finally, by hosting numerous special events and conferences throughout the year, it is a hub of community life. KCC’s flexible, decade-old sanctuary is heavily used by the church and the school, and also for events, but until recently its multi-media infrastructure and sound reinforcement were outdated and approaching haphazard. Local A/V integrator AVcom Technical Productions designed and installed a new state-of-the-art A/V system centered on Danley Sound Labs loudspeakers and subwoofers.

The original installation had its share of problems from the more

ASHLY AUDIO DELIVERS MULTIPLE LAYERS OF CONTROL IN GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH

greekorthodox_church.JPGROSELAND, NEW JERSEY: Saints Nicholas Constantine and Helen (SNCH) Greek Orthodox Church recently completed construction of a beautiful and inspiring new building in Roseland, New Jersey. Although orthodox in religious doctrine, SNCH was open to incorporating cutting-edge technologies in order to maximize the impact of its services and events. Audio Incorporated of nearby Roselle Park, New Jersey designed and installed a sound reinforcement system centered on Ashly Audio that accommodates three simultaneous methods of control: Ashly WR Series wall mounted remotes, wireless iPad control via a Crestron interface, and Ashly’s new FR-16 network fader remote. Via a single Ethernet cable, the affordable Ashly FR-16 provides a bank of faders and push buttons that the integrator can assign to any function inside an Ashly processor.

“Our design started with Ashly’s ne24.24M signal processor,” explained Mike Sinclair, president and owner of Audio Incorporated. “The reliability more

ASHLY AUDIO KLR SERIES AMPLIFIERS CONTRIBUTE TO GREEN DESIGN AT HILTON

hilton_concord.JPGSAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – FEBRUARY 2012: When the Hilton Concord undertook a multi-million dollar plan to renovate its thirty year-old property, it wanted to do more than merely spruce up the amenities. The popular hotel, which occupies prime real estate on the East Bay of San Francisco, wanted to increase the environmental sustainability of its operations. The overhaul included the use of recycled carpet, LED lighting, low-VOC paints, and a new, super-efficient HVAC system. Even the sound reinforcement system in the building’s flexible ballroom and meeting space contributes to the hotel’s much smaller carbon footprint. Local AV integrator JK Sound, Inc. designed the new sound reinforcement system around Ashly Audio’s new KLR Series amplifiers, which deliver tremendous output efficiency while still maintaining high fidelity, bulletproof reliability, and affordability.

“There wasn’t much to the original sound reinforcement system,” said Dan Thiel, sales and installation more

CLEAR AS A BELL: DANLEY SOUND LABS RINGS IN A NEW ERA AT SALVATION ARMY CLEARWATER CHURCH

salvationarmy_church.JPGCLEARWATER, FLORIDA – FEBRUARY 2012: The Salvation Army is consistently ranked as one of the most popular philanthropic groups in the United States. Its name conjures images of Christmastime bell-ringers and thrift stores, both of which provide support for the Army’s vast network of social support programs and its comprehensive disaster relief aid. It is perhaps ironic that despite its very public alignment as a Christian organization, the Salvation Army is not well known for its church services. Its Clearwater, Florida church has grown over the decades, in its congregation and its physical space, as a result of local “adherents” joining and officers from around the country retiring to its Floridian splendor. After moving to a beautiful new building in 1990 with sanctuary capacity for 385 and overflow capacity for over 300 more, the congregants suffered with a woefully inadequate sound system. Christ the King Church Enhances Sound with NEXO Line Array

BUENA PARK, Calif.—Christ the King Church in Bellingham, WA recently completed an overhaul of its sound system, awarding the installation contract to Clarity Media Group of Portland. Clarity provided the best solution for the task at hand, outfitting the 1,500-seat church with a 20-box NEXO GEO S12 line array.

“The church wanted a system capable of accommodating a worship service and in addition, have rider acceptability to bring in concerts,” states John Harrel, project manager, Clarity Media Group. “The NEXO GEO S12, consisting of eight S1210 boxes per side, is configured as an LCR and was chosen based on its smooth, even coverage as well as its musicality and output. Our client wanted a center cluster rather than front fills and flown subs, so we recommended four GEO S1230s which met their requirements and are tucked away very discretely above the pastor’s podium position. The previous system was an eyesore.” The system also contains four NEXO RS18 Ray Sub cabinets flown, two per side in cardioid mode. Two NEXO NX4x4 and one NX4x1 amplifiers power the system.

“The NEXO system’s ability to maintain uniform coverage despite having a low trim height was key in choosing it for this application,” states Travis Cibolski, Clarity co-owner and designer of the system. “The net effect is that the system delivers uniform, transparent sound to all areas, and with full bandwidth!”

Christ the King Church has 6,000 members in its congregation with two campus locations. The church band consists of 6-10 musicians on average who, according to Harrel, are very discerning when it comes to good audio (one of its members is a signed recording artist).

The church previously installed a Yamaha M7CL-48 digital console at front of house, chosen for its ease of use by audio volunteers.

Las Vegas, NV – February 2012… Located in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip, the Imperial Palace has been a prominent tourist destination for years—thanks in no small part to the fact that it houses the world’s largest and finest classic car showroom, a wealth of entertainment options, as well as the property’s prime location for the city’s booming convention business and its easy access to the Las Vegas monorail. The hotel’s Human Nature Theater is particularly popular and features Australia’s Human Nature—The Ultimate Celebration of Motown, showcasing the distinctive, dynamic harmonies of members Toby Allen, Phil Burton, Andrew Tierney, and Michael Tierney. More Gain Before Feedback Achieved at Rose Bowl and Super Bowl Thanks to RND 5045

BUENA PARK, Calif.—An ongoing issue with ref mics appears to have been resolved with the use of the new Rupert Neve Designed Portico 5045 Primary Source Enhancer developed for, and distributed by, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. A case in point was the recent use of the unit by Jack Bowling of ATK AudioTek at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and the Super Bowl in Indianapolis.

Bowling had the chance to demo the RND 5045 unit prior to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena to explore the possibilities for its use in resolving certain issues of this specific application. “Kevin Kimmel from Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, having worked with me in the past, knows I project manage and mix the UCLA football games and also mix the Tournament of Roses Game at the Rose Bowl,” states Bowling. “He initially introduced me to the RND 5045 suggesting it might help achieve more gain before feedback and provide more clarity on the referee microphone. I was curious to see what effect it would have, and after some patching and a further discussion of various parameters, we tried it out and I was impressed with the change the unit made.”

Bowling said the Rose Bowl PA is a distributed system with all speakers pointing toward the field, and because of this, a great portion of the reverberant energy works its way onto the field, making for a challenging situation. “It was only through experimentation that I was able to hear the effect and appreciate the change it made to the ref mic,” says Bowling. “The 5045 did an excellent job tightening up the ref’s voice by attenuating a great deal of that reverberant energy.”

Because of the success he had with the RND 5045 at the Rose Bowl, Bowling took the unit on the road to Indy for the Super Bowl where he used a Yamaha M7CL digital console at his mix position and two Sennheiser MKE-2 Platinum mics connected through a dual switch to two Shure Axient transmitters and receivers (only one element is used at a time, the additional system is used as a backup). “The RND 5045 was great! I had limited time to tune the ref mic and was very pleased with the result. I used the 5045 on an insert with a Cedar DNS-1500 and an XTA Parametric EQ and ended up with a ref mic that sounded very natural and had plenty of gain. I am always looking for a way to improve the clarity and squeeze just a bit more level out of the ref mic and this unit did both.”
