HARMAN Professional Delivers Superb Sound in New Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Auditorium

BIBVEWADI, PUNE, India — The city of Pune has a new cultural attraction to be proud of – the recently completed Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Auditorium, an 850-seat facility built to host Marathi-language theatrical productions and other events. Named for the noted social reformer and writer, the Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe auditorium has an understated yet striking architectural design and an elegant interior with the finest quality appointments and audio/video facilities throughout, including an audio system built around HARMAN Professional’s JBL, Crown and dbx.

Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Auditorium was built under the auspices of government agency Pune Municipal Corporation, which chose Zillion Solutions of Pune as the systems integrator thanks to the firm’s more than 25 years of experience in auditorium installations. “The time span to install the audio system was only five days,” said Pankaj Pansare, Zillion Solutions’ proprietor. “Five days for everything – from receiving the loudspeakers and components to installing, EQing and calibrating the system in time for opening night.” As if that wasn’t enough pressure for Pansare and his team, the installation was the first government project Zillion Solutions had ever undertaken.

Pansare knew he could turn to HARMAN to help him meet the tight time requirements and provide loudspeakers and products that would deliver world-class sound. “We’ve had a long-standing relationship with Zillion Solutions over the course of many successful projects,” noted Rohan Tadke, National Sales Manager, HARMAN Professional India. “They know our products offer sound quality, performance and reliability that’s second to none and we know they trust us as a valued partner to provide technical and design assistance and deliver products on time no matter what.”

HARMAN Professional India supplied 12 JBL VRX932LA-1 Constant Curvature loudspeakers, along with two VRX915S subwoofers, two SRX712M stage monitor/utility loudspeakers and 10 Control 1 wall-mountable loudspeakers. The loudspeakers are driven by seven Crown XTi 6002 amplifiers. Additional system components include a dbx DriveRack 4800 Loudspeaker Management System, dbx 234 stereo crossover and dbx 231 dual-31-band equalizer. “We needed a system that provided high-quality sound with even coverage throughout the auditorium, and was easy to operate and be totally reliable once installed,” stated Pansare.

The speakers were deployed in a somewhat unusual manner, since no fill loudspeakers were specified for the balcony by the architects. The JBL VRX932LA-1 loudspeakers were placed to cover both the main auditorium floor and the balcony, with the upper line array elements in the cluster aimed at the balcony and operated at a higher volume than the rest of the speakers via the dbx DriveRack 4800. “This combination actually works so well that we don’t miss the presence of fill loudspeakers at all,” Pansare pointed out.

The system was calibrated using HARMAN HiQnet Audio Architect™ software. Pansare noted that Audio Architect enables him to optimize a system to its full potential, and makes the process faster and easier than by any other means he’s used previously. The result was all Zillion Solutions hoped for and more. “The engineers from Pune Municipal Corporation were highly impressed with the sound quality and performance of the system and its ability to deliver even coverage and clear, intelligible audio throughout the auditorium.”

Pansare proudly noted, “Because of the hard work and dedication of our team and the support that HARMAN provided, the system was working a day earlier than we promised.”

Sonnet Announces Modular Rackmount Enclosure for Latest Mac Pro Computers

Sonnet’s RackMac Pro Provides Secure Mounting for One or Two Mac Pro Computers in a Space-Efficient Rackmount Enclosure

IRVINE, Calif. — Aug. 12, 2014 – Sonnet today announced its RackMac(TM) Pro rackmount solution for the new Mac Pro(R) computer. Ideal for use in IT equipment racks and transportable rack applications, as well as in offices and classrooms, the unit supports the installation of one or two new Mac Pro computers mounted side by side in a 4U rack space and offers features for ease of operation.

The RackMac Pro ships in two configurations. The first configuration is available with a single RackMac Pro Computer Mounting Module preinstalled, leaving space for an optional second Computer Mounting Module, available for purchase separately. The second configuration ships with two Computer Mounting Modules preinstalled and ready to accommodate two Mac Pro computers.

The RackMac Pro’s heavy-duty steel outer enclosure provides secure mounting and protection for each Mac Pro computer. Occupying a 4U rack space (7 inches) and just 16 inches deep, this rackmount solution is perfect for use in a wide range of popular mobile racks, carts, and rack cases, as well as in a server room. To make the Mac Pro fully rack- and road-ready, Sonnet constructed a protective cocoon for each computer out of formed steel and lined it with soft-touch padding to hold the computer firmly in place while safeguarding its lustrous finish.

The new Mac Pro’s cylindrical core employs a single large fan that quietly and efficiently cools the computer, drawing in cool air through the bottom and expelling warm air through the top. Mounted on their sides inside RackMac Pro, each computer’s airflow path remains unchanged and unobstructed. Full, independent airflow through the computer is maintained consistently within Apple’s usage guidelines, even when the RackMac Pro is installed between other equipment in a loaded rack.

Like Sonnet’s award-winning xMac(TM) Pro Server Thunderbolt(TM) 2-to-PCI Express(R) (PCIe(R)) expansion system and 4U rackmount enclosure for new Mac Pro computers, the RackMac Pro extends each Mac Pro’s Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0, HDMI, and power interfaces to panel-mounted connectors on the back of the unit for easy external cable connection. A USB 3.0 interface and power switch are mounted on the front to enable the user to conveniently connect a USB peripheral and activate the computer’s power switch. Because panel-mount connectors for Thunderbolt cables do not exist, each Computer Mounting Module provides cable management tie-downs for securing all Thunderbolt cables that are connected to each Mac Pro during installation. The RackMac Pro also includes convenient mounting support for specialty network interface Thunderbolt adapters such as Promise Technology SANLink2 Fibre Channel adapters.

“From the day the new Mac Pro was announced, we immediately began receiving requests for a rackmount solution,” said Robert Farnsworth, CEO of Sonnet Technologies. “With the success of our RackMac mini rackmount enclosure for Mac mini computers, it was logical that our customers immediately looked to Sonnet to design a solution for properly rack-mounting the new Mac Pro. We feel we have delivered the best combination of functionality, ruggedness, and efficient utilization of space.”

The RackMac Pro 1x (part number RACK-PRO-1X) has a suggested retail price of $599; the RackMac Pro 2x (part number RACK-PRO-2X) has a suggested retail price of $869; and the optional RackMac Pro Computer Mounting Module (part number RACK-PRO-MM) has a suggested retail price of $299. All models are immediately available. More information on the RackMac Pro is available at www.sonnettech.com/product/rackmacpro.html.

CASIO’S LAMPFREE® PROJECTORS ILLUMINATE “G” BY GUESS STORES NATIONWIDE

CASIO’S LAMPFREE® PROJECTORS ILLUMINATE “G” BY GUESS STORES NATIONWIDE

“G” By Guess, a retail store founded in 2007 by the Marciano brothers, wanted to upgrade and showcase its existing visual technology to further enhance the store’s overall design. To do so, “G” By Guess partnered with Pro-Motion Technology Group, the leading single-source provider of integrated technology specializing in commercial digital solutions, to transform its stores’ atmosphere. To date, “G” By Guess has installed more than 100 projectors in various store locations, including Casio’s Pro XJ-H1700, and plans to purchase additional projectors for additional locations across the United States throughout the year.

“Our company spent a lot of time researching the best projection technology for “G” By Guess and found that Casio’s projectors are unmatched in terms of their long lifespan, lightweight design and overall total cost of ownership,” said Chris Thomas, project manager at Pro-Motion Technology Group. “We recommended Casio’s Pro projectors for “G” By Guess and they have been well worth the investment.”

“G” By Guess chose Casio’s projectors specifically because of the LampFree® technology and state-of-the-art LASER & LED Hybrid Light Source. Casio projectors provide users with a 20,000 hour estimated lifespan, eliminating the need for expensive projection lamps that often need replacement and can cost almost as much as the original projector unit over one year. These units are also mercury-free, eliminating concerns for the proper disposal of used lamps and mercury pollution.

“The Casio projectors we installed have met needs beyond our expectations. Originally, “G” By Guess was looking for something to complement its store design and overall, existing visual experience and thought a projector would be a great fit,” said Thomas. “I’ve heard nothing but positive feedback from “G” By Guess’ in-store employees since we began installing the Casio projectors. We can see the difference in terms of brightness and clarity.”

Throughout many “G” By Guess locations, Casio projectors are mounted on the ceilings, and project images and music videos on the wall behind the cash registers. Each store location can run video feed up to 12-14 hours per day and can shut the units down easily without worrying about additional setup time. The next day when the power is turned back on, the projectors retain memory of the predetermined settings and cut down on calibration time. Also, since the projectors use Laser & LEDs it only takes eight seconds from power on to reach full brightness.

“Casio is proud to provide its state-of-the-art projectors to “G” By Guess store locations,” said Matt Mustachio, general manager of Casio’s Business Projector Division. “We know our units will reduce operating costs for the stores and create an inviting digital atmosphere for customers.  We look forward to building upon our relationship with “G” By Guess as they continue to upgrade locations nationwide.”

As part of its recent growth, PNTA has joined the Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. dealer network adding the new Yamaha QL Digital Audio Console to their ever-growing Yamaha arsenal.

With an expert technical services staff, PNTA installs and repairs equipment and supports both non-profit and private customers through their Event Services Department providing production requirements for events of all sizes. The company has an active walk-in customer business seeking to buy lighting, audio, video, staging and special effects, drapery and decorative fabrics, as well as an extensive assortment of consumables.

“We did an exhaustive internal review of what audio vendor we needed to strategically add to best accelerate our market progress in growing our overall audio business, states Dave Vaught, Event Services Production Manager at PNTA. We were particularly interested in broadening our offering in professional products appealing to our client base. We focused those efforts initially in audio control and sound reproduction as we needed more tools for sale, rental, and event services support. With the substantial market position and reputation of Yamaha and its many new and highly regarded products recently introduced, the answer became clear. We are happy to have become a Yamaha dealer and integrator of Yamaha’s Commercial Audio Systems products.”

Vaught said that PNTA wanted to add consoles that they expected to see high rental demand from for both existing customers and customers travelling into the state of Washington. “With the announcement of the QL Series, we found a very forward-thinking technological capability in a footprint that was easily transportable while being exceedingly powerful. The expandability of the QL Series clinched our choice and buying depth at key levels. Based on our client history, every need we could think of could be answered by some or all of the features of Yamaha QL desks. We were impressed with a number of the features, including onboard recording, signal and effect processing, auto-mixing, and iPad integration.” For rentals and event services, PNTA also invested in a speaker line extension, moving into the Yamaha DXR and DXS Speaker Series.

“While our company size has grown along with the expanded services we now offer, PNTA retains what we started with when we first opened our doors—a dedication to meeting the needs of our valued customers and finding creative solutions to tough problems,” states Richard Carlson, President. “By adding Yamaha products to our product line, we can now offer the ultimate in quality and reliability to our audio customers. Forbidden and Take 1 Partner to Integrate Transcription Capabilities With Forscene

LONDON — Aug. 12, 2014 – Forbidden Technologies plc (AIM: FBT), the AIM-quoted owner and developer of the market-leading cloud video platform Forscene, and U.K.-based Take 1 Transcription, provider of transcription, captioning, and translation services, today announced a partnership that connects Take 1′s transcription capability to Forscene. Now Forscene users will be able to access Take 1′s service directly from the Forscene interface with the touch of a button. This integration eliminates the need to prepare and transport large files or other media manually for transcription, and also helps to create thorough transcripts that can accelerate the post-production process.

“Many of our customers rely on time-coded transcripts as a valuable source of information during post-production, but getting those transcripts in hand can be a cumbersome process,” said Greg Hirst, business development director, Forbidden Technologies plc. “Our partnership with Take 1, which serves many of the major production companies, studios, and networks in the U.K. and the U.S., means our customers can skip the manual steps involved with initiating a transcription and just push a button instead, leaving them well on their way to a more efficient workflow.”

Unlike the usual transcription process, which requires producers to transcode clips, create and transport DVDs, or send files via FTP to a transcription vendor manually, the integration between Take 1 and Forscene creates an automated process. Producers select the content in Forscene to be transcribed, and then simply click a button to send proxy files to Take 1. Take 1 receives the transcription order, where it is processed immediately by the company’s highly trained, distributed workforce. Once completed, the transcript is imported back into Forscene as an XML file so that it gets linked back to the master video in the Forscene cloud.

At that point, production teams can use Forscene’s powerful logging functions to add even more metadata around visual descriptors, locations, and other key information. From there, Forscene’s robust search tools can be used to scan the transcript and the additional metadata to find just the right clips. Then teams can use Forscene to complete some or all of the editing process, from stringouts to publishing, with review and approval cycles throughout.

“More and more of our clients are embracing cloud-based post-production and using platforms like Forscene, so we needed to ensure our service was accessible directly from the cloud,” said Dom Bourne, CEO of Take 1. “By integrating our transcription service into Forscene, we are removing an entire step in the workflow, allowing content to flow seamlessly from Forscene to Take 1 for immediate transcription with resulting transcripts importing back effortlessly. This integration helps further compress the time between the shoot and the edit, so clients can focus on making TV programmes and not worry about logistics.”

HARMAN’s Martin Professional Exterior 200 Fixtures Light Russian Residential Complex in Celebration of World Cup Final

MOSCOW, Russia — In celebration of the 2014 World Cup final game, the three towers of “Vorobievy gory”, an iconic residential complex in Moscow that faces the German Embassy, were lit during the match with the colors of Germany and Argentina’s national flags. With only a single day to light the towers, lighting designer Sergey Babaliants of Moscow-based BaSinstall was brought in to program the tower’s existing system, which includes 198 of HARMAN’s Martin Professional Exterior 200 fixtures.

Installed in 2006, the exterior lighting for each of the three towers features 30 Exterior 200s for the “crown,” located on the roof level and 36 Exterior 200s for the “gallery,” located three floors below the crown. The design is controlled via LightJockey placed on the second level below the middle tower, while the left and right towers were connected through wireless DMX signal via an omnidirectional antenna on the roof of the middle tower.

The lighting design for the World Cup’s final match was pre-programmed to ensure the right tower was fixed with the German colors and the left with Argentina’s, while the middle tower alternated between each nation’s colors every 15 seconds.

One of the project’s major challenges was the tower’s aging and poorly maintained existing system.

“The whole installation had not seen any serious maintenance for about eight years,” said Babaliants. “The building management only replaced fixture lamps. The system’s control had never been replaced or even switched off. And on the top of all that we discovered a serious problem with the DMX radio transmitter that prevented us from synchronizing the towers.”

The unusually tight scheduling presented additional challenges. “Having only one day at my disposal, I had to find a creative solution to light the towers with the very limited capabilities of the system in place,” said Babaliants. “We would not have successfully completed this project without the ability of Martin’s Exterior fixtures to withstand such low maintenance in such a demanding environment. It’s a true testament to the durability and reliability of Martin lighting.”
