EAI Brings Martin Audio MLA To Singapore

As its global reputation continues to accelerate, the penetration of Martin Audio’s award-winning MLA multi-cellular loudspeaker into new territories increases unabated.

This is no better illustrated than in the Far East, where Singapore-based EXPO AV-INSYNC PTE (EAI) has just significantly boosted an inventory that also includes a Martin Audio W8LM Mini Line Array by purchasing the country’s first MLA System 36 from local distributors Swee Lee.

EAI Managing Director, Gerard Rodrigues, said he was proud to be the country’s first investor in the groundbreaking system. Speaking of the acquisition, he said, “We wanted a larger format, steerable array system to add on to our inventory and it needed to represent a significant upgrade. The other main reason is that the next four upcoming gigs are all rider specific.”

He says the latest purchase continues a rich legacy that began with the older Martin Audio Wavefront W3/WS2 range. “We wanted to be the first company to own MLA, but in any case, after a year’s worth of research for a new line array, this system came out top in terms of sound quality, output, ease of use and what engineers wanted most.”

EAI had first heard about the MLA system back in late 2012. “We deliberated this to ensure we had concert and corporate clients who would love it and specify it for their events. And although we had not heard it live at the time, I can’t remember the last time Martin Audio built a bad box, whether loudspeakers or line arrays.”

Rodrigues and his Technical Director Desmond Zuzarte quickly discovered that MLA’s ease of use, the output it delivers from just a 12” enclosure, and the steerability and tailored control for each different venue made this a unique proposition.

“Chris Pyne, [Martin Audio APAC Technical & Training Support] gave us the added assurance that of the three brands we were reviewing this was by far the best. We then met Simon Bull (Martin Audio Director of Sales) and Andy Duffield (APAC Account Manager) — and the rest was history.”

After intensive training in late July, hosted by their venue partners Singapore Expo & Max Atria and conducted by Pyne, the system will debut later this summer at the Singapore Expo Hall 1 in front of 6,000 people for a talent show.

Summing up, Rodrigues, says, “Our sound engineers are just very excited about this acquisition. From a sales point of view, the MLA speaks for itself. Aside from its output, the other big advantage is its weight — here in Singapore, we needed a system that could deliver huge sound output, while maintaining a certain weight load restriction in many venues.

“Looking at how the system is selling in Japan alone, it is a choice of all concert organizers and technical directors for large scale events.”

Gerard Rodrigues says he is looking forward with relish to promoting MLA as the first system in Singapore and will be inviting key clients and concert organizers to hear it.

Meanwhile, the adventure is just beginning as EAI are already in talks with Swee Lee about adding an MLA Compact system.

RapcoHorizon Joins the “Soundtrack of Summer Tour” with Foreigner, Styx and Don Felder

Engineers for All Three Acts Rely on Custom RoadHog and SilverHog Cables and Connectors for Legendary U.S. Concert Series

JACKSON, MO, AUGUST 13, 2014 – RapcoHorizon, an RHC Holdings brand and leading manufacturer of audio/video interfacing and cable equipment, has once again hit the road for another legendary tour. Custom runs of the company’s RoadHog and SilverHog touring cables are serving a variety of needs for the “Soundtrack of Summer Tour,” featuring Foreigner, Styx and special guest Don Felder of the Eagles.

As the group began to prepare for this highly anticipated tour, Lorenzo Banda, monitor engineer for Foreigner and a long-time RapcoHorizon fan, recommended the cables to the Styx and Felder audio teams. Though Foreigner and Styx are co-headliners and Felder is the opening act, each band required its own unique cabling requirements. For Foreigner and Felder, they exclusively are relying on RapcoHorizon – from instruments to speakers – all arranged in custom runs, while the engineers for Styx created their own runs using several of the company’s cables and connectors.

“We started using RapcoHorizon a while back, when the SilverHog cables first came out, and have used them for every performance since,” says Banda. “When the time came for us to plan the Soundtrack of Summer Tour, I knew the cables would be a perfect fit for Styx and Don Felder. When we met up for a gig at Fox News’ Fox & Friends in New York to promote the tour, I introduced the guys to some of their products.”

The stage design for this tour is complex since each group has its own setup, including lasers and special effects for Foreigner, large video walls for Styx and Felder opening each show by descending onto the arena. “Don is completely on board with the cables,” says Banda. “His engineers love it. Their whole stage setup is now using RapcoHorizon, and I think his studio is even starting to fill out with the cables as well. As for Styx, they’re also really stoked about the quality and sound of the cables.”

All RapcoHorizon cables are designed for the working musician. The custom instrument and speaker cables are road-ready and tour tough, employing the most rugged constructions without sacrificing sound quality. The SilverHog cables offer the bands the same durability for which RapcoHorizon is known, but with an even more enhanced sound range.

“I noticed the high-end definition and fidelity on these cables, as it’s much more pristine than others I have heard,” says Banda. “I use a lot of RapcoHorizon’s twisted pair cables, which have great resistance and a high-quality sound. I don’t know all the technical nuances that go into making the cables, but I can definitely hear the difference.”

By the time the tour concludes this September, the RapcoHorizon cables will have made more than 50 stops across the country. “All of the cables have been really slamming and durable,” adds Banda. “We have backups and redundancies, just in case, but we haven’t needed to use them. Sound is our first priority and to have that kind of quality product behind us is one less thing that we have to worry about.”

Banda credits RHC Holdings and RapcoHorizon as being among the best audio companies in the industry with which to work. “Everyone at RapcoHorizon bent over backwards to make sure all of the bands received what they needed in a timely manner,” he says. “They always make us feel like we’re their number one priority and take care of us immediately. They care about us 100 percent whole-heartedly. We’ve worked with other cable companies and you can’t get that level of customer service with anyone else; it really makes a difference.”

RHC Holdings Discusses Targeted Marketing Strategies at InfoComm 2014

LAS VEGAS, JUNE 19, 2014 – Representatives from RHC Holdings will be on hand at InfoComm 2014 (Booth C9516) to discuss the company’s new targeted marketing strategies, which were announced earlier this year. Under this plan, RHC Holdings, comprised of well-known dependable brands, such as RapcoHorizon, Momentum, Pro Co, RAT, RoadHog and StageMASTER, will promote and market its brands to their specific industries. Pro Co Data will be the main focus for this year’s InfoComm show in Las Vegas.

This marketing strategy ensures that RHC Holdings can offer comprehensive audio and cable solutions for a variety of budgets and projects, from 100,000-seat stadiums to single-room houses of worship and everything in between. RHC’s collection of brands affords users the options of low-, mid- and high-grade data, instrument, speaker or microphone cable options. Fans will also find solutions such as guitar pedals, digital snakes, personal audio interfaces, digital facility design software and personal monitor systems.

“We are very excited about the future of RHC Holdings,” says Darius Seabaugh, Vice President of Marketing for RHC Holdings. “With this strategy, each of the brands will now have a very individualized marketing plan that will focus on a targeted customer base for areas such as live sound, retail, studio and installation.”

Pro Co and Pro Co Data represent RHC’s professional line of customizable audio, video, data, communications and fiber-optic interfacing solutions. With product lines such as LifeLines high-end signal transfer cable; TradeTools industrial strength and sized device boxes; RoadMaster heavy-duty touring snakes and PlateWorks standard and custom wall plates designed through DesignVision, ProCo truly defines what it means to be in the professional market.

As RHC’s mid-to-upper-range line of audio solutions, RapcoHorizon products are tailored to the entire retail music industry to meet the demands of both live sound and studio recording. The brand comprises three different series of products, including the Players Series, a rugged solution for nightly club performers; Concert Series, a diverse line of professional interfacing products for live stage performances and Studio Series, an elite selection of cables with superior sound quality and rugged, durable construction for professional performances and studio sessions. With RapcoHorizon, fans can be assured they will attain the same sound on the road as they do in the studio.

A personal monitoring and digital audio distribution network, Momentum is designed to replace traditional analog audio wiring wherever audio distribution is needed. Difficulties in executing the increasingly complicated audio systems can be simplified by capturing audio at the source, converting it to digital and distributing it over a standard Ethernet network. This reduces the amount of field terminations, making installation less time-consuming. With the mTweak app for the Momentum mo8me Mix Engine, an average smart phone or tablet becomes a handheld wireless interface to control a user’s mix and settings right from his hand or music stand.

From its beginnings as a pedal created in a Michigan basement, RAT has become an iconic legend in the mainstream of rock music. Built with the traditional rock musician in mind, RAT products have a rough, vintage, rebellious and dark sound. The newest product to make its way into the brand is the FAT RAT, which is also being presented at NAMM.

RoadHog touring cables are uniquely designed for touring performers. Engineered “Road Ready and Tour Tough,” RoadHog cables utilize the most rugged construction for those who don’t have the time to be neat and careful with their gear, while always providing high-quality sound. For those who want even more superior sound, there is also the SilverHog, which features the same RoadHog construction with silver-plated conductors and shields. RoadHog also comprises Hog, HogCloth, HogM, HogMPro, HogMCloth and SilverHogM, and will forever remain devoted exclusively to cables.

General Cable Launches Gepco® Brand Stadium Cables at InfoComm 2014

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, JUNE 18, 2014 — General Cable is pleased to launch its line of Gepco® Brand Stadium Cables at InfoComm 2014 (Booth #C10336) June 18-20, 2014. The new line of stadium cables allows for simplified installation of one cable across Direct Burial and Riser applications.

Typical indoor and outdoor applications require the installer to use different cables and splice the two together, which requires more time and also makes the installation vulnerable to signal loss or errors. With Gepco Brand stadium cables, the installer can run a single cable from the outside direct burial environments directly into buildings for riser applications, no splicing necessary.

Gepco stadium cables feature two-ply water-blocking tape and water-swellable fillers (audio only) for advanced water protection in direct burial installations while also retaining a CMR rating. Available in single-pair audio (61801SC), high-definition RG 11 coax (VHD1100SC) and RG 11 triax (VT61811SC), all Gepco Brand stadium cables are ideal for extended-distance runs.

“Gepco Brand stadium cables provide solid performance across two very different applications,” said Brad Pope, Operations Manager, Gepco® Brand Products. “Gepco and General Cable are pleased to provide a solution that makes installation for stadiums and other outdoor venues quicker and easier.”

Gepco® Brand Lightweight and Flexible 7.8 mm Hybrid Fiber Camera Cable Featured at InfoComm 2014

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, JUNE 18, 2014 — General Cable is pleased to demonstrate the flexible and lightweight, yet durable Gepco® Brand HDC720HD 7.8 mm Hybrid Fiber Cable at InfoComm 2014 (Booth #C10336) June 18-20, 2014. Radically different from typical industry products but with the same performance characteristics of traditional SMPTE 311 cables, the HDC720HD 7.8 mm hybrid fiber cable is 16 percent smaller and 40 percent lighter in design. Visitors will be able to feel for themselves the differences in size, weight and flexibility of the HDC720HD compared to a typical portable 9.2 mm cable and how those differences add up when in use in the field.

The revolutionary construction of the HDC720HD starts with replacing the typical heavy steel strength member with a Kevlar® strength member that has the same pull strength of steel, but is lighter and more flexible. Unlike steel, Kevlar expands and contracts at the same rate as the glass members during temperature extremes, keeping the elements in the cable aligned reducing migration. Using Kevlar in place of steel also means the cable has virtually no memory making the cable easier to pay off, lay flat and wind back up on the drum.

For further durability, the HDC720HD utilizes bend-insensitive fiber elements with very low attenuation and a bend radius of 0.2 mm—versus 2.0 mm for traditional single-mode fiber—in a breakout style with additional Kevlar protection around the individual fibers.

In the HDC720HD, the typical outer braid is replaced with two 18 AWG drain wires and a foil shield that allow the cable to be more flexible, lighter and smaller in diameter. The power conductors consist of two 16 AWG conductors so you can still achieve the same distance to which a regular SMPTE 311 cable performs. The master jacket of HDC720HD is polyurethane material with a glossy finish that reduces the pickup of dirt and debris from outside applications, making it easier to keep clean.

“The HDC720HD design provides a lightweight, flexible solution with the added bonus of reducing migration errors caused by temperature extremes,” said Chris Gazdic, Engineer, Gepco® Brand Products. “This makes the HDC720HD extremely ideal for use in portable applications and with high-definition Steadicams.”

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, JUNE 18, 2014 — General Cable is pleased to demonstrate its valuable Gepco® Brand SMPTE-304TS Hybrid Fiber Cable Tester at InfoComm 2014 (Booth #C10336) June 18-20, 2014. Visitors to the booth can learn how easy it is to use the most comprehensive tester for hybrid fiber camera cables.

Ideal for use in sports/events broadcasting, fixed and mobile facilities or wherever a SMPTE HD camera cable is used, the SMPTE-304TS tests both electrical and optical circuits while the intuitive display graphically depicts which contact is defective or pinned out incorrectly.

Each SMPTE-304TS test set includes a metering unit and optical source unit with black aluminum frames, a rechargeable NiMH battery with charger, a USB to USB-mini charging cable and a rugged ABS plastic carrying case.

“Because it tests both electrical and optical circuits, it’s the most comprehensive tester available for hybrid fiber camera cables,” said Chris Gazdic, Engineer, Gepco® Brand Products. “The portable design of the SMPTE-304TS Hybrid Fiber Cable Tester and its many features make it easy to verify your cables before and after installation.”
