University of Washington and VISIONS’11 Set Sail with Blackmagic Design’s ATEM Production Switcher

Blackmagic Design today announced that the University of Washington’s School of Oceanography used Blackmagic Design’s ATEM 1 M/E Production Switcher, Micro Videohub and OpenGear Converter Audio to SDI products as part of the ocean going VISIONS’11 Expedition. The University relied on the Blackmagic Design products to capture, route and stream footage from the ocean floor, 400 kilometers offshore, back to the University and online at www.ooi.washington.edu/visions11/live.

VISIONS’11, a cooperative effort between the University of Washington and the National Science Foundation’s Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI), commenced on August 11 in Seattle, Washington, aboard the 274 foot Research Vessel Thomas G. The university, in alignment with ongoing stadium preservation, recently added a Technomad Turnkey PA system with six Technomad Berlin weatherproof loudspeakers. The system plays out intelligible voice and high-quality music across four zones and long distances for football games, graduations and other stadium events.

Red TX Brings Stunning Audio Quality To The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ New Album Launch

Broadcast sound specialist Red TX was recently commissioned to capture the audio for a very special Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in Cologne, Germany, which was filmed and broadcast live to 1,500 cinemas around the world.

The concert marked the launch of the multi-platinum rock band’s new album, I’m With You, released through Warner Bros. Records on August 29th. The band played the album in its entirety and followed up with some of their greatest hits.

Production company Splinter chose Red-TX to handle the audio component of the project on the basis of its previous good working relationship with the sound specialists. Renowned live sound engineer and Red TX director Tim Summerhayes manned the desk on board Red TX’s new RED II truck and provided a live audio feed that achieved the same quality as the band’s in-studio performance.

DIGI Sports Raises Its Game With HARMAN’s Studer Vista 5 Console

BUDAPEST, Hungary — DIGI Sport of Hungary recently purchased a 42-channel HARMAN’s Studer Vista 5 digital mixing console for its new DIGI Sport Plus channel. As DIGI Sport Plus features a wealth of live programming, the Vista 5 was chosen for its versatility, sonic superiority and ease of use.

DIGI Sport Plus is a 24-hour sports channel that was launched as an extension of the DIGI Sport channel. DIGI Sport Plus televises a variety of live sporting events, including football, rugby, European handball and Moto GP racing.

This is the second Studer Vista 5 console for DIGI Sport, which purchased a 32-channel Vista 5 in 2010. Both consoles were sold through Studer’s Hungarian distributor, Audio Partner Ltd.

NAV Uses ViewPoint™ in Tropicana Las Vegas Surveillance System Upgrade

Las Vegas, NV––North American Video (NAV) was recently tasked with the responsibility of replacing and expanding the existing surveillance system as part of the all-new Tropicana Las Vegas’ complete transformation.

According to Systems Specialist Daniel Jackson who oversaw the project for NAV, “The overall project was actually accomplished in three phases. First, we replaced an old Burle matrix (512×32) with a new preconfigured Honeywell Maxopronet (738×64) system that allowed for more camera inputs and functionality than the previous matrix. Additionally, the system went from coax to UTP which offered significantly enhanced capability.?

For the second phase of the project, Jackson and his team provided a high definition camera system using Honeywell’s latest IP camera technology. The system for Tropicana, which was installed by the resort’s in-house staff, was connected to an expanded and redesigned supported network provided by NAV. BAD KISSINGEN, Germany — German L-ACOUSTICS certified provider Soundhouse has installed a KIVA WST modular line source system into the Max Littmann Saal concert hall in Bad Kissingen.

The historic concert hall, built in 1913 and paneled in cherry wood inlaid with ebony, can accommodate 1,160 people and specializes in classical music and spoken word performances through to blues and rock music. When the time came to upgrade its sound system, the major requirements were low weight, wide and controlled coverage and low visual impact. more

Jünger Audio Helps Bethesda Cathedral Manage Its Audio Loudness Levels

Bethesda Cathedral in eastern Singapore has solved the problem sudden peaks in the volume of its AV presentations by investing in a Jünger Audio LEVEL MAGIC™ two-channel loudness normaliser. The unit has been added to the signal path between the Cathedral’s new Allen & Heath iLive digital mixing system and the distribution patch bay to automatically control the levels on any incoming signal source, regardless of its input level.

Bethesda Cathedral is built over four levels, with a 2000-capacity main sanctuary located on the third floor. This is supplemented by a 600-capacity chapel on the ground floor that is used as an overflow venue if the main sanctuary is full.
