ORF Purchases HARMAN’s Soundcraft Vi1™ Consoles For Live Broadcasts

Österreichischer Rundfunk, the Austrian national public service broadcaster, has added a pair of HARMAN’s Soundcraft Vi1 digital consoles to its inventory. The order was placed with Soundcraft’s Austrian distributor Kain Audio by Landesstudio Tirol, one of nine regional studios operating under the ORF umbrella, after carrying out extensive tests against other brands. These will be used for live broadcasting, FOH mixing and recording purposes in the Innsbruck/Tirol region.

According to ORF tonmeister, Jürgen Brunner, the old set-up was desperately in need of upgrading. “We considered a number of different factors, such as price, size, quality and ease of use. We concluded that the Vi1 was the best concept for us, very easy to use, with the Widescreen Vistonics interface, and with no quality limitations.

“The internal filters sounded excellent as did the graphic EQ, and it offers good flexibility, with external Stagebox, MADI option and offline editor — more

Teer Engineering And HARMAN’s JBL CBT Series Loudspeakers Provide Unobtrusive Yet Expansive Sound At St. James Cathedral

When the time came for St. James Cathedral to upgrade its sound reinforcement system, John Teer of Teer Engineering had a specific design objective: the loudspeakers had to blend into the church’s interior, but without any compromises in performance. To meet the audio and aesthetic needs of the Orlando, Florida house of worship, Teer selected HARMAN’s JBL CBT Series column speakers.

Aesthetics was “a huge part of the project,? Teer said. “The church wanted a high-quality sound system that was state-of-the-art but easy to use–and the technology had to be visually unobtrusive.?

“Before we were involved in the project, the initial system design called for big, tour-grade line array clusters hanging right in the middle of the sanctuary, which was unnecessary,? noted Teer, whose Orlando-based firm designed and installed the upgraded audio system.

“The church needed a sound system for spoken word only, and the church’s pipe more

SBS Broadcasting Chooses Jünger Audio’s LEVEL MAGIC™ Solution For Loudness Control

After a thorough process of evaluation that incorporated both measurement and listening test, SBS Broadcasting in The Netherlands has installed Jünger Audio’s LEVEL MAGIC™ solution for loudness processing across all of its television channels.

SBS was prompted to investigate loudness control in order to comply with the new EBU R128 loudness recommendation, which was formally announced by the EBU’s PLOUD Group at the IBC Convention in September, 2010.

Josbert van Rooijen, Manager Broadcast & IT at SBS, says: “Complying with R128 is a complicated, step-by-step process. Proper and clean switched loudness processing is of vital importance if SBS is to be able to combine old style programming with content that is already compliant to the new paradigm. Switching needs to be carried out in a smooth and seamless manner, without changing the overall audio impression. In our opinion, Jünger more
