Zylight Demos New F8 LED Fresnel at 2013 Cine Gear Expo Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES – Zylight, a leading manufacturer of innovative LED lighting solutions, will demonstrate its new F8 LED Fresnel at 2013 Cine Gear Expo Los Angeles (Booth 325), which runs May 31 – June 2 in Hollywood, Calif. Available in tungsten (3200K) or daylight (5600K) versions, the compact lighting instrument collapses to less than four inches thick for easy transport and storage.

Equipped with an eight-inch SCHOTT glass lens, the fully dimmable F8 maintains single shadow traditional Fresnel beam shaping, and offers a patented focusing system for spot and flood operations. Its beam spread is adjustable between 16-70 degrees for even coverage for widescreen productions. Like other Zylight models, the F8 is equipped with ZyLink wireless technology, which makes it easy to link multiple Zylights for simultaneous remote control.

While the F8 draws only 100 watts, it has close to the light output of a traditional 1000-watt Fresnel. It is also water resistant (IP54) for use in challenging location conditions, and can be powered by a worldwide AC adapter or standard 14.4V camera battery. The F8 ships with barn doors and yoke mount, but additional accessories are available separately.

“Cine Gear Expo is an ideal venue to showcase the innovative F8 LED Fresnel for the motion picture industry,” said Charlie Collias, senior vice president, worldwide sales. “We’ve replaced the traditionally hot and bulky Fresnel with compact LED technology. The F8 delivers all the performance of a traditional Fresnel but in a much more compact and energy efficient design.”

Zylight will also showcase its IS3c LED light, an updated version of Zylight’s acclaimed IS3 large panel cyclorama and beauty light, at Cine Gear Expo. Now shipping with a custom soft box produced exclusively by Chimera for Zylight, the fully dimmable IS3c is a wide, high-output soft light with built-in controls for adjusting color temperature, color correction, and Zylight’s Color Mode, which produces millions of colors without gels or filters.

Staatstheater Stuttgart Prepares for Growth with Clear-Com Eclipse HX-Omega

Digital Matrix Systems Provide Multibranch Theater with a Boost in Intercom Capabilities

STUTTGART, GERMANY, MAY 14, 2013 – Clear-Com® is proud to announce that Staatstheater Stuttgart, Germany’s largest theater, recently improved communications at its drama theater with two Eclipse HX-Omega Digital Matrix Systems. Part of Clear-Com’s newest digital matrix intercom line, the Eclipse HX-Omega uses revolutionary IP technology and can be easily upgraded, making it a future-proof investment for the theater. Other benefits of the system include exceptional system performance, intelligent integration abilities and simplified user operations.

The planning and installation of the Eclipse HX-Omega digital matrix system at Staatstheater Stuttgart was a joint venture between MCI, a Clear-Com Partner for Germany, and Zeiler, a systems integrator. The facility’s 50 Clear-Com FreeSpeak Beltpacks were seamlessly integrated with the Eclipse HX-Omega system via an E-QUE-HX card to enable wired and wireless coverage across the entire theater. All personnel, including the technical engineers, security staff and show producers, are able to remain in constant contact with each other with the Clear-Com intercoms. The Eclipse HX-Omega also gives the crew the option to conveniently run their V-Series intercom panels over IP using an IVC-32-HX card. In addition, all analogue audio inputs, such as the PA systems, audio monitors and microphones, are connected into the Eclipse HX system. This way, crew members can hear the program and be prepared for their cues.

“Because the theater is constantly evolving, the engineering team was determined to acquire a future-proof, IP-based intercom system,” explains Martin Geritz, Sales Manager for MCI. “Clear-Com’s Eclipse HX intercoms were an obvious choice for the crew because of their comprehensive features, IP technology, and easy upgrade capabilities.”

Previously, the crew communicated using walkie-talkies, third-party control panels and FreeSpeak wireless intercoms. Each of these systems operated independently from the rest. The Eclipse HX-Omega has simplified operations by integrating all the systems into a unified communications platform. Now, they have interconnection within and across each of their three stages. The Eclipse HX-Omega also allows the personnel to make fast and easy changes to the communications setup to meet the unique needs of any production. Clear-Com intercoms also offer higher audio quality than that of their previous system.

“We are extremely proud that Staatstheater Stuttgart has chosen Clear-Com’s intercoms for its theater,” says Vincent Beek, Clear-Com’s Regional Sales Manager for Northern Europe, Eastern Europe and Russia. “Staatstheater Stuttgart is continuing to develop a great deal, and its new Eclipse HX-Omega system is not only able to handle its current productions, but is suitable to meet the its future needs.”

The Staatstheater Stuttgart is anticipating a systems upgrade for its opera house in the coming months, with plans to employ Clear-Com there as well. When that installation has taken effect, the intercoms at the opera house system will be integrated with those at the drama theater to allow production crew members to communicate between both buildings.

Christie Lites Increases Investment in MA’s onPC command wings

Christie Lites has purchased an additional 200-plus MA onPC command wings from A.C.T Lighting, the exclusive distributor of the MA Ligthing in North America. The company’s new investment brings its inventory of onPC command wings to over 250.

Earlier this year Christie Lites took delivery of 50 onPC command wings to extend usage of the flexible and powerful grandMA2 control system to customers working on location or those who find it physically difficult to fit a full grandMA2 console at their venue. With 12 locations in the U.S. and Canada, Christie Lites supplies equipment and services to lighting designers and chief electricians across an extensive client base.

MA’s onPC command wing is a portable solution offering realtime control for 2,048 parameters in combination with grandMA2 onPC. Designed as the perfect hardware expansion to the grandMA2 onPC software, onPC command wing enables the look and feel of the software to be as close as possible to a real grandMA2 console.

Its command section is similar to the grandMA2 layout and features 2 A/B faders, one level-wheel, individually backlit and dimmable silent (clickless) keys and an integrated universal power supply. The unit has an ergonomic design and is lightweight (tipping the scales at just 6 kg) and rock solid.

onPC command wing comes with free grandMA2 onPC software. It offers two built-in DMX ports as well as the possibility to send two additional DMX universes via Ethernet. A simple USB connection between the MA onPC command wing and the computer running the grandMA2 onPC software permits all inputs and outputs of a grandM2 console to be available to the user. DMX, MIDI, timecode and analogue remote are all on hand directly at onPC command wing.

The portability and mobility of onPC command wing also make it an ideal backup solution within the grandMA2 system; a powerful control solution on the road or in smaller theaters, shows and clubs; or a handy choice for preprogramming.

“The popularity of the onPC command wings with our customers prompted us to invest in a substantial inventory of units,” says Christie Lites CEO Huntly Christie at the company’s Orlando headquarters. “The onPC command wings can be used anywhere and for an affordable price. They’re a win-win solution.”

White Mark Designs A New Audio Facility For Extreme Music

Studio and design consultancy White Mark Ltd has completed a major project for Extreme Music to design and install an entire audio complex at the company’s new headquarters in London. The complex includes a large mastering studio, a mixing studio that can also be used for tracklaying and three self-contained audio editing suites.

Extreme Music, the production music arm of Sony ATV, was obliged to move premises to accommodate its rapid business growth.

The company’s Senior Vice President, Dan Pounder, says: “We have been growing at a rapid rate and needed more space to accommodate staff and to provide more audio facilities. Fortunately we were able to take over offices vacated by another Sony company and the move gave us the opportunity to re-design the space so that it exactly suited our workflow. The open plan design is now split between work stations for marketing and administrative staff and the audio suites. Thanks to the exceptionally high standards employed by both White Mark and BNP Paribas, which handled the design of the non-technical space, we now have a working environment that exceeds our expectations and has the wow factor we were looking for.”

The audio complex flows along one side of the building and consists of a large mastering room with natural daylight that is equipped with a Pro Tools system, PMC monitors and a range of audiophile processing equipment from Analaogue Tube, Avalon, Manley, Weiss and T.C. Electronics. There is also a secondary multipurpose room equipped with Universal Audio, Sonnox and T.C. Electronics processing with PMC monitors capable of mixing, tracklaying and mastering duties. The two rooms can work in tandem for larger tracklaying projects, with the mastering room doubling up as a live space. The complex also houses three self-contained edit suites of varying sizes, all of which are linked to a common DDP audio server in a separate machine room so that work can easily be transferred between any of the five audio rooms.

Extreme Music’s Chief Mastering Engineer Nick Cooke says: “We chose White Mark for this project because we had worked with them in the past and knew they could deliver the results we wanted. As our new premises are located in a mixed tenancy building, we had to ensure that all of the studios and edit suites were really well isolated to avoid causing noise nuisance to our neighbours. White Mark was able to completely isolate all of the rooms and ensure that the completed facilities sounded great and were acoustically accurate.”

White Mark’s previous involvement with Extreme Music involved upgrading the mastering studio in its old premises to improve the sound of the room and create more space. That project, which was completed in just four weeks in order to minimise downtime, involved the use of White Mark’s Fast Studio construction method that allows producers, composers and studio owners to build high performance facilities in far less time and at far less cost than would normally be anticipated. This unique system uses properly constructed and individually specified acoustic modules that are assembled off-site, making them very quick and easy to install. Fast Studio panels are ideal for rooms using free-standing monitors and in which there is no need for full isolation.

White Mark’s managing director David Bell says: “Although Extreme Music’s new facility required a more traditional approach to studio building to achieve adequate isolation, we were able to incorporate the company’s existing Fast Studio panels into our design for the acoustic treatment of the edit rooms.”

Established in 1997, Extreme Music is renowned for the quality of its production music and is committed to delivering an unrivalled roster of talent. Among its stable of Award-winning producers and composers are Timbaland, Hans Zimmer, Quincy Jones, Snoop Lion, Vince Clarke, Xzibit and Steve Jablonsky.

“All of our mastering is handled in-house and because we are committed to excellence, we need audio facilities that reflect this philosophy,” Nick Cooke adds. “White Mark has achieved remarkable results with our studios and we are delighted with them. Being able to feed work between all five rooms has significantly improved our workflow and increased flexibility. The additional space has also made it possible for composers to come in and be truly involved in the mixing and mastering process.”

Dan Pounder adds that the move has not only given Extreme Music the extra space it needed, but also helped integrate the audio side of the business. “The layout works really well,” he says. “Everyone enjoys working here and the look and feel of the new premises also creates a very good impression for visitors because they can literally see our workflow in action.”

FOR-A to Showcase FT-ONE 4K Super Slow Mo Camera at Cine Gear Expo 2013

Cypress, CA – FOR-A Corporation of America plans to showcase its FT-ONE full 4K super slow motion camera at the upcoming Cine Gear Expo, taking place May 31-June 1 at The Studios at Paramount in Hollywood. FOR-A will be in Booth #S323, where they will also display the FT-1READ -a RAW data to DPX converter available with the FT-ONE camera.

First introduced at last year’s Cine Gear Expo, the award-winning FT-ONE is ideal for digital cinematography applications. The camera is the first of its kind to complete the 4K workflow by introducing the ability to simultaneously record and play back super slow motion images at full 4K resolution. The FT-ONE’s high-sensitivity CMOS color sensor, FT1-CMOS, enables high-speed recording at up to 900 frames per second (fps). The camera captures images as uncompressed raw data on the system’s internal memory, which has a recording capacity of 9.4 seconds. This data is then stored on one of two hot-swappable SSD cartridges, each of which is capable of storing 84 seconds of full 4K resolution images.

FOR-A will also be showing the FT-1READ, an option available with the FT-ONE for easy file conversion. The FT-1READ takes the RAW data from the SSD drives, imports all recorded info, and converts it to a DPX file.

“The FT-ONE has received many accolades for its innovative technology since the camera’s introduction,” said Hiro Tanoue, President for FOR-A Corporation of America. “Cine Gear Expo continually attracts many major players in high-end entertainment production, and FOR-A is looking forward to showcasing the camera and its stunning 4K capabilities again at this year’s show.”

The FT-ONE camera uses a PL mount lens and a global shutter system, which allows the camera to capture fast-moving subjects in crisp detail at 4K resolution. The FT-ONE is designed as a self-contained unit that is dependable and easy to use.

Cine Gear Expo is the premier film, video, and digital media expo for the entertainment industry, and is the largest event of its kind. 2013 marks the conference’s 17th year.

ASHLY AUDIO INTRODUCES THE nX AMPLIFIERS: A WAVE OF TREMENDOUS POWER, EFFICIENCY, AND FLEXIBILITY FOR THE PRICE OF A MODEST SPLASH

WEBSTER, NEW YORK – MAY 2013: With founder Billy Thompson’s invention of the “Loud Amp” in the early 1970s and the introduction of its path-breaking MOS-FET amplifier technology in the early 1980s, Ashly Audio established itself as a company that would lead the industry in technological innovations. It continues that tradition with the new Ashly nX family of Class D amplifiers, which deliver up to 12,000W of clean power while drawing less than 1W in sleep mode. nX amplifiers are offered in four- or two-channel versions with selectable high-Z (70/100V) or low-Z output on each channel. nX model variants include the addition of Ethernet control, and onboard Protea™ DSP with load monitoring, to meet the many and varied requirements of modern fixed installation and live sound applications. Ashly is offering three series of nX amps with feature sets that build upon each other. The base nX amplifiers are available in four- or two-channel models at 3000W or 1500W per channel (@ 2 Ohms) and feature a defeatable automatic sleep mode. nXe series amps add Ethernet control, serial data control, aux preamp outputs, programmable standby mode, preset recall, fault condition logic outputs, event scheduling, and optional network audio and digital audio capability (CobraNet® or AES3). Finally, nXp series amps feature everything in nXe plus onboard 32-bit SHARC Protea DSP processing (48 or 96kHz sampling rate) and precision swept load-impedance monitoring.

Additional features include multiple independent power supplies for increased channel separation and reliability; front panel power switch and level controls (defeatable in nXe and nXp models); front panel LEDs for temperature, current, signal, clip, mute, bridge mode, protect, sleep, and more; Neutrik® Combo XLR – 1/4” TRS jack plus Euroblock input connectors; Neutrik speakON® twist locking loudspeaker connectors for security, safety, and reliability; rear panel DIP switches per channel for selection of high pass filter, limiter, input gain, and High-Z or Low-Z speaker output configuration; remote DC level control on each input channel; switch mode power supply automatically detects 120V or 240V AC operation; and extensive protection circuitry, including continuously variable cooling fans.
