Tributaries’ Unveils Improved PROFIT Connectors

Orlando, FL—January 2013—Tributaries is proud to introduce the all-new PROFIT connectors. The ever-popular PROFIT connectors have been vastly improved now requiring 50% LESS effort for compression and constructed of high impact plastic. The improvement is made possible thanks to the merger of “Pro-Connect” and “Snap N’ Seal” who were purchased by Belden, these two fantastic designs have combined to yield a new connector with the performance of “Pro-Connect” and the ease of “Snap N’ Seal”.

The new connectors feature an elegant gunmetal finish standard for all models. In the coming months, new signal identifier color rings will become available which will conveniently fit into the indented area just below the connector head. Connectors will only require one silver-crimping die to assemble the connectors; this enables the number of components to be kept down only to the essential items, simplifies installation and eliminates the need to swap out crimping dies on the compression tool.

The new style will retain the key features such as: visible entry for RCA and BNC and, 360° radial compressions. The connectors will continue to work with a number of different industry compression tools. While Tributaries won’t be the only manufacturer to offer this new connector, it is the only manufacturer to offer unprecedented quality control performed in its Orlando-based headquarters. Tributaries also guarantees all compression connectors fit on the coax sold by the company.

The newly designed F, RCA, and BNC for RG59 and RG6 are now available. Connectors for TRIBMINI will be available later this year.

Extron Announces New Compact DVI Fiber Optic Extender

Extron DFX 100

Extron DFX 100

Anaheim, California (January 22, 2013) – Extron Electronics is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the DFX 100 Fiber Optic Extender, a transmitter and receiver set for long haul transmission of DVI video signals over one fiber optic cable. This extender delivers single link DVI-D signals over multimode fiber optic cable at lengths up to 300 meters (984 feet). Engineered for reliability and exceptional image performance, it uses all digital technology to deliver perfect pixel-for-pixel transmission of video images up to 1920×1200, including HDTV 1080p/60. Its integrator-friendly features and compact size make the DFX 100 ideal for applications that require long distance transmission of high resolution video content with the highest quality.

“The Extron DFX 100 offers system designers a very compact solution for extending DVI signals long distances over a fiber optic cable,” says Casey Hall, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Extron. “With the attached ultra-flexible DVI cable and standard LC fiber optic connectivity, it is also easy to integrate.”

The DFX 100 can be used for simple point-to-point applications or in combination with DMS Series Modular Matrix Switchers that include the new DMS Fiber Matrix Boards. DMS Series matrix switchers can be populated with any combination of DMS DVI and DMS Fiber matrix boards to support local and remote devices. To simplify integration, ultra-flexible DVI cables are attached to the transmitter and the receiver to allow direct connection to source and destination devices. Pre-terminated multimode fiber optic cable assemblies from Extron are available in various lengths from one meter (3.3 feet) to 60 meters (197 feet). Both the DFX 100 transmitter and receiver are housed in 1U, one-eighth rack width enclosures for discreet installation.

Acoustics First releases video on Vibration Isolation

Acoustics First has conjured up yet another video demonstration. As the fourth in a series designed to help explain common acoustic principles, this video briefly reveals what is necessary to provide vibration isolation.

VIBRATION ISOLATION DEMONSTRATION: Controlling Mechanical Sound Transmission

As the quandary of vibration isolation can quickly prove to be obtuse and relatively difficult to understand. Common problems like footfall from upstairs neighbors, industrial noise from machinery and HVAC equipment or isolating speakers and scientific devices can require completely different approaches. Most often, an on site assessment should be completed by a qualified engineering professional to determine an appropriate acoustic solution. In many cases the solution will require a modification to the structure and implement more than a single strategy.

This simple vibration demonstration challenges to provide a basic understanding of how acoustical materials may be used to prevent the spread of mechanical noise and vibration through existing structures like walls, floors and ceilings.

In this acoustic demonstration, a surface mounted piezo transducer connected to an analog meter will register levels of sound vibrations transmitted to the table. A vibrating device placed directly on the surface will transmit sound vibrations and resonate loudly throughout the table. These vibrations will register on the analog meter. By inserting isolation materials between the device and the surface, the mechanical sound transmission is reduced and sound no longer registers on the meter.

Barix Supports Crestron Rava SIP Intercom and Phone Technology

Solution delivers first interface to enable peer-to-peer device communication between Rava-enabled touch screens and analog door stations

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, January 21, 2013 — IP audio and control specialist Barix is pleased to announce support of Crestron Rava™ SIP intercom and phone technology. The Barix SIP firmware will simplify integration of Rava-enabled touch screens with analog devices, such as intercom panels, to enable peer-to-peer communication between devices without a central server. This simplifies Voice over IP (VoIP) integration in residential and commercial deployments.

Crestron Rava touch screens leverage SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) to permit voice intercom, telephone and paging (point-to-point and group) among other applications across the home, office or small business. The inclusion of Barix firmware uniquely establishes compatibility between Rava-enabled touch screens and analog door stations. This allows customers to continue to use existing analog installed devices when upgrading to Rava touch screens, providing seamless IP to analog integration.

Systems integrators, meanwhile, eliminate the time and labor associated with configuring servers to enable SIP compatibility between Rava touch screens and connected devices. Barix firmware allows these devices to discover each other on the network, becoming the first Crestron-approved solution to offer such seamless peer-to-peer device connectivity. The result is a reliable, SIP-compatible solution that effectively bridges analog and digital components within Rava environments.

“We’re thrilled to have Barix support our protocol because it bridges the gap between digital (SIP communication points) and analog door stations,” said Fred Bargetzi, Crestron VP of Technology. “We see many homes with independent door station/intercom systems separate from the home automation system or homes with integrated page-all intercom systems when discrete peer-to-peer operation is more desirable. With support of the Rava protocol, Barix now provides a retrofit solution that seamlessly communicates with the homeowner’s existing door station.”

The Barix solution can be deployed today by connecting a Barix Annuncicom IP two-way audio hardware device directly to a door station. Crestron is also working with companies such as eHolovision, which manufactures a series of intercom entry panels for door stations. Barix will soon add the same functionality to these and other third-party panels equipped with Barix IPAM Series modules. This enables peer-to-peer SIP and Rava compatibility without additional hardware.

Both options also provide digital inputs and outputs for control options, such as activating door strikes. The integration with Barix effectively turns a door station and a Crestron Home Control System into an integrated access control solution for the customer.

“Barix has previously worked with Crestron, developing an Annuncicom device version specifically for Crestron residential solutions. That solution offered an IP interface for point-to-point, full-duplex audio distribution and control between analog and digital devices,” said Johannes G. Rietschel, CEO and founder of Barix AG. “The new solution evolves the relationship, using Barix’s strong IP audio and control expertise to develop a unique solution that reduces infrastructure, simplifies installation and enhances communication across Rava environments.”
