HydraConnect LLC Debuts New HDMI Matrix Processors With Built-in HDBaseT HDMI Transmitters – Also Now Available for Crestron, iRule, and RTI in addition to Control4

DENVER (8/23/12) — HydraConnect LLC, a Denver-based manufacturer of HDMI matrix processors has introduced its new HSS-3 Matrix Processor for Control4 systems. They have also announced system drivers that will also enable HSS-2 and HSS-3 products to integrate with Crestron, iRule, and RTI home automation systems.

HydraConnect LLC’s new HSS-3 Matrix Processor provides 8 HDMI inputs and 8 outputs with built-in HDBaseT transmitters, enabling cost effective installation to connect video displays up to 330 feet away using CAT5e cables. The companion HDBaseT receivers are unique in that they do not require power supplies, reducing installation headaches. Alternatively up to two of the HDBaseT outputs can be used as local HDMI connections. The HSS-3 retains all of the HSS-2 features such as an integrated audio matrix and CEC control to replace IR flashers.

In addition the HSS-2 and HSS-3 now include HydraConnect LLC’s new Dynamic 2D/3D protocol to automatically resolve EDID conflicts with mixed 2D/3D sources and displays.

“We are excited to now offer our Control4 dealers an integrated HDMI video, audio, and control processor with built-in HDBaseT transmitters to simplify their custom installations. Additionally, we are now able to make our products available to Crestron, iRule, and RTI home automation system installers,” said HydraConnect CEO, David Schanin. “We’ve learned a lot by keeping our efforts focused on Control4 systems over the past few years, but all the HDMI integration and CEC automation tools we have developed are equally applicable to these other systems. Installers will greatly appreciate the simplicity, and set-up automation of our systems, and the ability to all-but eliminate IR flashers.”

The HSS-3 will connect and individually switch up to eight HDMI sources with eight HDMI video displays, switch eight stereo sources among 16 remote speaker zones, and control this equipment using CEC without IR flashers, all seamlessly integrated with a home automation system. The HydraConnect HSS-3 and the earlier HSS-2 models use cloud-based software support that provides automatic upgrades and tech support without customer intervention. The most recent upgrade was the addition of the company’s patent-pending Dynamic 2D/3D display management system, which automatically maximizes viewing options and performance in environments with mixed 2D and 3D components. With the exception of HydraConnect LLC’s HSS family of products, present day switches do not have the capability to dynamically adapt to the 2D/3D environment properly.

“It’s all about systems integration and ease of installation,” continued Schanin. “Customers don’t realize that a major system upgrade, like Dynamic 2D/3D, happened two weeks ago at 3 AM without discs, dongles or a visit from their dealer. Our cloud based update system did this automatically. With the HSS-3 we are adding the greater range and flexibility of built-in HDBaseT extender technology to the HSS-2’s patented CEC control functions and largely automated setup. The HSS processors provide the installer with a simple HDMI and HDBaseT technology solution.”

Since long runs of conventional HDMI cables are not possible, many custom installers use accessory HDBaseT HDMI extenders and CAT5e for long cable runs. By building eight HDBaseT transmitters into the HSS-3, installers can speed installation and set-up by eliminating one more connection in the chain. These extenders use Power Over Ethernet (POE), so there is no need for a “wall wart” power supply on the receiver end of the cable, which allows flush mount of flat screen TVs. To support local AV Receivers in the HSS rack, two of the output channels can be selected to use local HDMI connectors instead of HDBaseT.

The HydraConnect LLC HSS-3 also eliminates the need most IR blasters and extra controllers, thanks to its fully-integrated CEC control for nearly all sources and displays, plus it provides integrated IP support for DirecTV satellite receivers. Automatic EDID set-up and management ensures maximum video resolution and all audio format support. There are no HDCP key limitations on number of simultaneous displays. The company’s FlashConnect™ technology ensures near instantaneous video switching and no picture loss when adding or removing displays to or from a video stream. The HSS-3 supports 3D, resolutions up to 1080p, HDMI 1.4a-pass-through, 36/30/24 bit deep color (225 GHz), automated EDID and CEC processing, and is HDCP 1.4 compliant. It also supports all the latest HDMI audio formats including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. A/V remix allows the viewing of one video source while listening to a separate audio source. For Control4 installations, HSS-3’s fully integrated Control4 Composer support includes bidirectional volume control feedback for Control4 Navigator.

The HSS-3 will be available to authorized HydraConnect dealers in October. The new HydraConnect System Drivers for Crestron, RTI, and iRule will be available to dealers in October.

Waldorf Astoria Chooses IMT & Meraki for High-performance Wi-Fi

Roosevelt New Orleans Upgrades as Premiere Hilton Business Showcase

Management at one of Hilton Hotels’ most prestigious properties, The Roosevelt Waldorf Astoria in New Orleans, was having a Wi-Fi crisis.  The proliferation of mobile devices was overtaxing traditional wireless networking and the The Roosevelt was feeling the pinch.

Superior Wi-Fi at top hotels is no longer an option when it comes to high level conferences and company meetings.  Management at the Waldorf-Astoria called on Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT) to find a solution to the density of mobile devices that was overburdening their Wi-Fi spaces.

“We thought we had the latest and greatest system, but apparently we were wrong,”  explained Fred Sidhva, a top Hilton manager.  “When our clientele is paying good money for their corporate gatherings, we have to give them a totally reliable Wi-Fi experience.  We needed a new approach, so we contacted IMT.”

Throughout this century and the last, The Roosevelt has strived to provide world leaders, business executives and entertainment icons with an unrivaled meetings and events service. Twenty-three separate and unique meeting rooms and 3 grand ballrooms comprise the hotel’s 5574m_/60 000 sq. ft. of event space offering a wealth of venue options.

“This project was a challenge with a tight deadline,” remarked Garth Gilmour, IMT’s VP Professional Services. “When the Waldorf contacted us, they expressed concern about the supposedly solid Wi-Fi system they had installed.  IMT had already gone through the Hilton standardization process, so we visited the New Orleans location, created a new design for them and were given the green light to proceed.”

Gilmour and the IMT team chose to develop the solution with the new Meraki MR14 dual-radio 802.11n access point series.  “Meraki is leading the pack today because they have realtime tools that are built in,” continued Gilmour.  “We’ve enhanced and integrated those tools through third party interfaces, allowing us to do  a fast and dynamic analysis of the hotel environment.  Just a year ago, that would have required a $25,000 analyzer and a team of technicians working for weeks.”

“We just didn’t have the luxury of time and another giant budget to fix this,” added Fred Sidhva.  “We gave IMT a very small window to work in — just two nights when the conference rooms were vacant between midnight and 3 AM.  We needed a product that could be deployed very effectively, very efficiently, and very quickly.  IMT hit the ground running and got the job done right, the first time.”

An effective wireless deployment requires universal coverage throughout the hotel meeting spaces.  An efficient deployment is like a military rescue: get in and get out.  Gilmour concluded,”We’ve found that with Meraki, the installation time is cut by 40%.  We have to guarantee that everything is working perfectly, but we also have to thoroughly train the hotel IT staff so that they have got everything covered when we leave.”

Barix Expands Annuncicom Product Range

New low-cost, reliable VoIP and IP Audio devices optimize features and functionality for universal applications

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, June 7, 2012Barix has successfully marketed its two-way Annuncicom IP audio and SIP/VoIP devices around the world, bringing bidirectional audio streaming and control solutions to various markets within the commercial, entertainment, private sector and residential worlds.

Barix now builds on that success with the introduction of two new Annuncicom devices at InfoComm 2012 (June 13-15, Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth C11722) that are priced to compete in large-volume projects and applications.

The new Annuncicom 50 is built specifically for OEM applications. Barix is now shipping to OEM partners, including a key player in the education and classroom automation market. The device delivers Barix’s trademark rock-solid reliability, open standards design and multi-format audio capability at a very low cost for OEM customers.

Furthermore, Barix breaks new ground with the Annuncicom 60, a universal, programmable and ultra-compact device that offers the industry’s lowest cost today for reliable IP encoding and decoding. The small form factor is roughly 40 percent the size of existing Annuncicom devices, which are already renowned for offering a compact footprint to systems integrators and end users.

In simple terms, the Annuncicom 60 is an ideal single-zone paging interface device that can decode VoIP codecs as well as MP3, AACplus and PCM audio. Its inclusion of a built-in speaker amplifier, balanced line output and microphone interfaces, serial and contact closure control interfaces, and Power over Ethernet (PoE) support is unique to the market — delivering universal functionality at a competitive price.

“The Annuncicom 60 brings full-fledged functionality for low-cost paging and intercom while providing the high audio quality and format flexibility required for background music systems,” said Johannes G. Rietschel, CEO and founder of Barix AG. “With advanced capabilities like built-in, efficient amplification and PoE support to simplify installation, the Annuncicom 60 is ideally positioned to support the continuously growing number of IP Audio applications.”

The Annuncicom 60 enables striking cost and technical advantages for applications suited for many markets:
• Reduces cost of entry for Barix IP intercom applications by at least 25 percent
• Reduces high quality microphone encoder costs by at least 25 percent, whether for technical or security-related audio surveillance; or classroom lecture audio capture
• VoIP and MP3/AACplus audio decoding capabilities enable merging of paging and background music applications
• Lowest cost balanced output audio decoder solution for “mono” output applications (paging gateways, AM radio stations, etc.)

The Annuncicom 60 is also the lowest priced IP audio product from Barix to feature a symmetric output, making it suitable for in-store audio and general audio distribution applications requiring a 600-ohm balanced output. The 5W amplifier, when combined with an efficient 8-Ohm speaker, provides enough power for a typical room, hallway, lobby or classroom — making it ideal for single room paging zones and audio “help points” in retail stores and visitor attractions, for example.

AVocation Systems Introduces 8×8 HDMI Matrix for AV Distribution

With industrial design suited for the most demanding HDMI installations, the 8×8 Matrix provides the reliability and functionality dealers need for large AV distribution projects.

Broomfield, CO – May 14, 2012 – AVocation Systems, Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of professional grade audio/video distribution products, proudly announces the new Mountain Series 8×8 HDMI Matrix (HX-0808H). The new 8×8 HDMI matrix is the first in a series of coveted HDMI products AVocation Systems has planned for 2012.

HDMI distribution has its challenges. Long distances, control of numerous components, and unreliable switching can all present problems in large scale HDMI installations. AVocation System’s new 8×8 matrix provides reliable and true router capabilities: any of the eight HDMI inputs can be routed to any or all of the eight HDMI outputs and EDID/Key management virtually eliminates latency between switch times. The 8×8 matrix also has the ability to take signals from single key cable boxes out to multiple displays (as opposed to just one), a common failure of many matrix routers. AVocation also includes drivers for most control system partners, a welcome feature for installers working with large home or commercial automation systems.

“Dealers and installers are well aware of the limitations of HDMI,” said Trent Mulligan, sales and marketing manager for AVocation Systems. “The best way to deal with these constraints is to work with AV distribution and accessory products that are engineered to alleviate some of the pain felt by working with HDMI in a distributed environment.”

AVocation System’s Mountain Series 8×8 Matrix is compatible with HDMI 1.4 and has support for 3-D content, all while providing up to 12-bit deep color with resolutions up to 1080p 60Hz pixel rates (225 MHz). Control options are IP, RS-232, USB, and Infrared. HDCP 1.1 compliant, the matrix is rack mountable (ears included) and consumes two rack units. AVocation Systems is also an ISPCS Plugfest Participant with a demonstrated commitment to interoperability.

“AVocation has built a reputation for engineering affordable AV distribution products that withstand the tests of time, environment and heavy usage,” said Mulligan. “Our 8×8 HDMI Matrix is no different and we are committed to helping dealers deal with HDMI challenges through product innovation and support.”

AVocation’s bold shipping policy for The Mountain Series line of HDMI products includes a five-year advanced replacement warranty as well as a 100% money back guarantee. All products are made in the USA. For more information, please visit www.avocationsystems.com or call 877-805-6639.
