QSC Introduces the New AcousticPerformance™ Line of Loudspeakers

Costa Mesa, CA (December 5, 2012) – QSC Audio Products is proud to announce the launch of the AcousticPerformance™ line of professional, two-way, full-range loudspeakers, ideal for a variety of installed sound reinforcement applications which require higher SPL and a stylish enclosure. All models feature a 3-inch voice coil, high power-capacity compression driver combined with high-output woofers to deliver exceptional full bandwidth reproduction.

“In keeping with QSC’s loudspeaker design philosophy, all AcousticPerformance loudspeakers feature Directivity Matched Transition™ (DMT) which matches the compression driver to the natural coverage angle of the woofer in the cross-over region”, states Phil Sanchez, QSC Loudspeaker Product Manager. “When combined with their axisymmetric waveguides, AcousticPerformance loudspeakers deliver a flat power response with smooth and accurate sonic reproduction and remarkably consistent coverage both on and off-axis.”

AcousticPerformance models may be used in passive (full-range) mode to minimize amplifier channel count or bi-amp mode for greater control and performance. To further enhance performance, bi-amp and full-range tunings using QSC Intrinsic Correction techniques are available for Q-Sys™ and future QSC products.

All models feature M10 mounting points for deployment via eye-bolts as well as mount points for an optional yoke bracket. The AP-5122m multi-purpose enclosure features a 40-degree angle, making it ideal for floor monitor use, and a pole cup for deployment on a loudspeaker stand. The enclosure and terminal input cup on the AP-5122m have been designed to facilitate the cable runs for a clean appearance on stage.

Presenting a clean, unobtrusive look, AcousticPerformance grilles are unadorned, eliminating the need to cover-up logo treatments, which can be difficult to hide or remove. The grille is also lined with acoustically transparent backing, adding to the enclosure’s professional appearance.

AP-5102/5122/5152 models are available in black (RAL 9011) and white (RAL 9010) finishes. AP-5122m is available in black only. To minimize impact and disposal fees at the job site, all AcousticPerformance loudspeakers are packaged in environmentally friendly, recyclable cartons.

Key Features of the AcousticPerformance Line:

Niles Brings New Meaning To Architectural Sound In Luxury California Home Theater

Some home theaters are nothing more than a flat screen TV with a couple of speakers placed randomly giving the illusion of a true surround sound experience. Then there are others, like this recently completed luxury home theater in Thousand Oaks, California, that feature only the best of the best, from personalized motorized recliners to an invisible surround sound system with Niles® legendary architectural speakers that give viewers incredible audio that is heard, but not seen.

The homeowners had one specific request for Thousand Oaks-based custom integrator Wilshire Home Entertainment, and it was that all the electronics besides the projector and screen needed to be completely hidden from view. They utilized in-wall subwoofers, a total of seven Niles in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, and hid the system components behind acoustic panels under the screen to give the owners exactly what they were looking for: an over-the-top home theater that completely engulfs the viewer into whatever they are watching.

According to Wilshire Home Entertainment’s Project Designer Bennett Bowman, “The clients were very hands-on when it came to the actual interior design of the theater. They wanted to continue the ornate décor and style of their home in the theater, without compromising the aesthetic with bulky speakers and electronic components. Every fabric, every color and every decorative item in the room was selected by the clients and our design team to create an “over the top” look and feel. The only way to deliver the sound quality they deserve without making it visible was to use Niles speakers. The painters went right over the speaker grilles like they were part of the ceiling, and that’s exactly how Niles designed them to be used.”

Wilshire Home Entertainment chose the ideal components for every aspect of the theater, installing three Niles IW2670LCR architectural speakers behind the screen and four Niles IW770FX surround channel architectural speakers in the rear and sides of the room to deliver a true seven channel audio experience. As the clients requested, the only pieces of equipment visible in the 400 square-foot home theater are the Runco® VX-22d Projector and the Stewart® CineCurve™ Screen.

The theater’s interior elements and designs were provided by Boca Raton, Florida-based Cinema Design Group International. The chairs, designed by First Impressions Theme Theatres in North Miami, Florida, are motorized recliners and include the clients’ family crest. The family crest can also be found on the remote control screen.

With unique touches like running lights, illuminated lions’ heads at the end of the chairs’ armrests and ceiling stars that fade and brighten with a push of a button, the homeowners have a theater unlike any other, one truly worthy of the title “home theater”. The equipment within the home theater also controls the audio and visual systems throughout house, which allows the client to listen to music and watch DirecTV channels in any room.

DIFFUSING / SCATTERING SOUND: Sound Diffusion Explained

Acoustic Diffuser DemonstrationAcoustics First has just released another in a series of videos to help explain acoustical principles using simple, easy to understand video demonstrations. This latest demonstration tackles the mystery of acoustic sound diffusion. Using an array of ping pong balls to represent sound visually, this video simply demonstrates what occurs when sound strikes the surface of an acoustic diffuser. First, you will see what happens when sound hits a flat reflective surface with no acoustical treatment. Acoustic Sound DiffuserThe balls all bounce at the same time and in the same direction. This represents what happens to the sound when it hits a flat reflective surface like a wall. Then you see what happens when sound hits an acoustic sound diffuser. You will immediately notice the energy of the wave of balls is scattered in all different directions as well as deflected at different time intervals. Diffusers, disperse or scatter the sound like crowd control, preserving the sound to maintain sound clarity without destructive interference. This is the basic principle behind acoustic sound diffusion.

QSC Q-Sys Offers Acoustic Echo Cancellation as a Standard Feature

Q-Sys CoreCosta Mesa, CA –(October 19, 2012) QSC Audio Products, LLC is pleased to announce that Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) is now available as a standard component of their acclaimed Q-Sys integrated system platform, which has quickly become the preferred choice worldwide for audio system control and signal transport.

Ideally suited for Q-Sys clients that utilize AV conferencing systems in such places as corporate boardrooms, meeting and convention spaces, hospitality installs, and government and legislative venues, the powerful QSC AEC process is easily deployed in Q-Sys Designer software as a simple, draggable component. And unlike AEC offerings from competing manufacturers which must be purchased as costly add-on input cards, the Q-Sys solution is 100% integrated into the Q-Sys Core without any additional cost to the user.

“Because of the powerful Q-Sys DSP processing engines, we have been able to offer Acoustic Echo Cancellation as an integrated feature to serve our customers,” says Joe Peavey, QSC Product Manager, Software. “The tight integration between the Q-Sys processor, DSP, hardware and control software, gives Q-Sys the ability to do AEC on audio signals coming from any number of sources such as mics, remotes, I/O frames and even over IP streams.”

Current Q-Sys customers can enjoy the AEC feature at no charge by upgrading to Q-Sys Designer Release 3.0 or newer. More information on the upgrade, as well as a new Q-Sys AEC whitepaper can be found at: www.qscmarketing.com/aec.

“We are excited to be able to offer AEC to our customers with Q-Sys,” adds Peavey. “And we continually have plans in the QSC pipeline to add more advanced and powerful features to Q-Sys which will benefit our customers. “

Q-Sys, the complete integrated system platform that encompasses everything from the audio input to loudspeakers, provides all the audio routing, processing, control and monitoring necessary for any facility while maintaining the audio quality and reliability QSC has come to be known for. Designed for the rigorous requirements of both small and large-scale venues, the power of Q-Sys has been demonstrated worldwide in a variety of applications, including stadiums and arenas, theme parks, performing arts venues, transportation hubs, corporate boardrooms, convention halls, government facilities, hotels and casinos and houses of worship.
