APG Electric Builds State-of-the-Art Conference Room for New Engineering Division Using a Symetrix SymNet Radius AEC Processor

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA – MAY 2014: Based in Clearwater, Florida and founded in 1984, APG Electric has grown from its humble beginnings into one of the Sunshine State’s leading contractors, with 250+ employees and annual sales in excess of $40 million. As the industry has advanced, APG has added in-house expertise that it formerly subcontracted, including an Audio/Visual division that joined the firm two years ago. As part of that process, APG Electric recently added a new engineering department and a new 22-room extension to house it. Included within the new office space is a state-of-the-art conference room, which will serve as a showcase for clients who are considering their conference room options and as a means to discuss and approve changes between the office-based and the field-based staff. To ensure that audio performance and voice intelligibility is excellent, APG Electric put a Symetrix SymNet Radius AEC Dante networked audio processor at the heart of the new conference room.

“Our goal was to build in the latest and greatest technology,” said James Wagoner, technology programmer at APG Electric. “We wanted to include all of the features that our clients might like to include so that they can make intelligent choices about what they want. I’ve installed literally hundreds of Symetrix SymNet audio DSP, and they’ve always been reliable and easy to configure. The very few times where I ever had an issue, Symetrix was right on top of it. Based on that experience and relationship, I specified the SymNet Radius AEC on faith. I’m very pleased with its performance and it makes our teleconferencing audio transparent and effortlessly intelligible.”

“The conference room really has two purposes,” said Larry Stephen, technology account manager at APG Electric. “First, we want to make our clients aware of the technology solutions that are available to support their communication needs. Including high-quality Symetrix audio processing is part of that. Second, we want to close the loop between on-site decisions and the approval they require from office-based staff. Formerly, this required driving back to the office, holding a meeting, marking up documents, getting approvals, and then driving back to the client and/or the site. With the conferencing system, those decisions, mark-ups, and approvals can all be made in real-time, with the client present. We can transfer files, print in the field, and have everybody sign off on a decision as it’s made. The conferencing features of this room save hours and days. It simplifies logistics.”

The Symetrix SymNet Radius AEC includes eight AEC (acoustic echo cancellation) inputs, four auxiliary inputs, eight outputs, and an expansion slot for any SymNet I/O card. Critically, it includes sophisticated AEC and related processing algorithms that deliver crystal clear audio to both sides of a remote conversation. The SymNet Radius AEC is easily expandable and networkable using the Dante Network protocol over Ethernet. An AMX DVX system controls all of the conferencing room’s functionality, including calls, video, audio, and lighting. Two Teamboard 90-inch interactive whiteboard also serve as projection screens for Panasonic short-throw projectors. Video is handled by a LifeSize ICON system using its UVC platform. The conference table includes pop-up boxes for connectivity and a collection of Shure boundary microphones for clear capture of discussions in the room. ElectroVoice Evid in-ceiling speakers provide output.

ABOUT SYMETRIX Symetrix is dedicated to making life sound better. As a world leader in the development and manufacturing of digital audio signal processing (DSP) systems and accessories, Symetrix provides best in class audio management solutions to businesses, schools, non-profits and government organizations.

KanexPro releases 5-Input Mini HD Scaler with HDBaseT™ output for corporate boardrooms and lecture halls

May 8th, 2014 KanexPro exhibiting at InfoComm 2014, booth N1657 is pleased to release a 5-Input Presentation Switcher & Scaler with HDBaseT™. Based on a high-performance video processing engine that can scale standard definition HDMI, RGB, VGA, C-video and component to HD quality video and audio up to 2K. Ideal for lecture halls, corporate boardrooms and command-control centers, where switching of analog and digital signals are mission critical.

From large congregations such as house of worship centers to lecture halls and corporate board rooms, the growth of routing, scaling and signal distribution has seen many game changing facets over the decade. Some prevailed while others failed. This has helped KanexPro design powerful systems based on integrators needs. Today’s audiovisual systems must support a extensive range of analog and digital A/V formats says Kashyap Khetia, Marketing Head for KanexPro. Switching and distributing these diverse signals can be abysmal for SI’s and installers.

As an added benefit, the HDSC51HDBT provides remote powering by not having to install an extra power outlet to the ceiling or wall, the included receiver handles power over Ethernet to power up eliminating the need for a separate power supply at the remote unit. Perfect for the slim flat-panel LED display or projector mounting that does not have an extra power socket.

AV Control made easy – Wide band IR signals and bi-directional RS-232 control can be transmitted alongside the video signal over the CAT6 connection, allowing the remote device to be controlled without the need for additional cabling. Bi-directional control extension eliminates the need for control system wiring to remote devices.

The HD scaler is housed in a compact 1U, half rack width enclosure that can be installed virtually anywhere, including discreet placement underneath a conference table, cabinet place, inside a credenza, or in a lectern. Visit us at InfoComm, Booth # N1657 for a live demo.

About KanexPro

Leveraging our core strength in professional A/V products, KanexPro carries a complete selection of A/V connectivity needs. When planning digital installations you will find that we carry a broad line of A/V connectivity products enabling you to broadcast, extend, split, or multiply HD signal transmissions; simply and cost-effectively. Our mission is always to create top-tier technology reliable and affordable.

Sony Purchases New Consoles from Location Sound Corp.

Pro Audio Dealer Helps Sony Picture Studios Revamp Its Culver City Facilities

North Hollywood, CA (May 7, 2014)Location Sound completed their largest Q1 sale to Sony Picture Studio’s Culver City, CA, which is undergoing a revamp of its production facility. Sony’s purchase of eight live sound consoles—five Soundcraft Vi4s, one Soundcraft Vi6, and two Yamaha CL5s— will be used for audience sound reinforcement as well as recording of production dialog.

Sony’s choice of Soundcraft Vi4 and Vi6 consoles carries forward some continuity as the company had employed earlier analog models of Soundcraft Series FIVE consoles. Aside from the consoles’ smaller footprint and extensive modern features, upgrading to the latest digital models allows them to tap into the extensive fiber optic and Dante network that is instlled between stages and studios in the complex.

Val Asuncion, Location Sound’s Assistant Sales Manager, has been working with the Sony revamp project since November 2013. “The consoles are part of Sony’s production sound packages that are rented for various shows produced on the Sony lot, as well as other lots around Southern California. Since they were familiar with the sound and ergonomics of Soundcraft consoles, the Vi Series seemed a perfect fit”, Val said. Soundcraft’s Tom Der points out the long-standing relationship Location Sound has with Sony “made them the natural go-to vendor” for the deal.

Sony also had specific integration requirements for the Yamaha consoles used on the stage where Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune were taped. For this reason, Jonathan Peirson, Yamaha’s District Manager, brought in twoYamaha CL5s and Rio stageboxes, a system that offered the best solution for integrating with the existing infrastructure. Since the consoles will be used in portable applications on stages with frequent changes, its ease of use, size, and features—such as scene memory and networking capabilities—played heavily into the buying decision.

“Location Sound has been on the forefront of showing products that work on a Dante network. And having recently become a Yamaha CL dealer, we partnered with them to show these capabilities on the consoles. It turned out to be perfect timing as Sony was looking to upgrade to consoles that would support a Dante network”, said Peirson.

David A. Panfili, Location Sound’s CEO says “Sony’s complex system integration requirements also serve to reinforce our commitment to aligning ourselves with technologies that advance and enhance our clients’ sound recording capabilities.”

About Location Sound Corporation
Location Sound opened its doors in January of 1977 with a mission to be the one-stop facility for production sound mixers for all their sales, rental, and equipment service needs. More than 37 years later, the client roster now also includes production companies, broadcast companies, law enforcement and private security firms, universities, houses of worship, government agencies, and more. Location Sound is known for its excellent customer service and unparalleled depth of inventory: No matter the industry, Location Sound remains committed to providing sound professionals the equipment they need for their critical recording needs, while delivering unmatched support services before and after the sale.

SYMETRIX LAUNCHES SYMNET COMPOSER SOFTWARE VERSION 2.0

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON: Symetrix announces a new release of its SymNet Composer open architecture design software for Edge and Radius DanteTM network audio DSPs. In addition to a host of time-saving workflow enhancements, Composer 2.0 natively integrates select Dante third-party hardware supporting the discovery, signal routing, and other aspects of AtteroTech unDIO2x2 and unDX2IO and Stewart Audio AV25-2 and NetAV 2×2 devices. Composer 2.0 is the only programming environment needed to build a Dante networked system from start to finish, simplifying and speeding initial design, revisions, and troubleshooting.

Trent Wagner, senior product manager at Symetrix, noted, “I’m very excited to launch this version of SymNet Composer. To my knowledge, Composer 2.0 is the first full integration of third-party Dante devices in our industry. Contractors can now manage an entire Dante-based system from end-to-end (remote wall box I/O, to DSP, to power amps) using only SymNet Composer 2.0 with select products from AtteroTech, Stewart Audio, and Symetrix.”

In addition to third-party Dante device integration, Composer 2.0 offers a number of workflow enhancements. Remote control protocol can be accessed via TCP/IP and TCP/IP string output modules, simplifying integration with control devices and increasing the number of compatible control systems (e.g. projectors). Module input and output names can be automatically propagated to downstream modules, speeding and standardizing the labeling process, and presets can now be created and edited without going off-line. In addition to the 600+ DSP modules already within the Edge and Radius system, a new Transient Suppressor DSP module reduces random transient noise (e.g. pen tapping, silverware clanking) for clearer conference audio. Furthermore, a new “Trace Signal Path Forward” feature now traces through all Dante transmitters and receivers that significantly reduces the time required to understand, follow, and troubleshoot signal flows within large systems.

Added Symetrix Founder and CEO, Dane Butcher, “SymNet Composer 2.0 is yet another milepost in our ongoing mission to provide software and hardware tools that help our integrators achieve the greatest possible levels of technical excellence while at the same time expending the least time and effort.”

SymNet Composer 2.0 is available for free download at www.symetrix.co

Tech Works Brings IC Live to the Party

Las Vegas, NV – May 2014…Tech Works, a leading Las Vegas-based sound and production company, just took delivery of new Renkus-Heinz IC Live digitally steerable loudspeakers, and in fact, has already deployed them successfully on several shows.

“We strive to provide our clients with the very best audio experience, and the IC Live is a fantastic sounding system,” states Tom Bourke, general manager of Tech Works. “It provides a tremendous amount of output from a very compact footprint, while the digital steering allows us to focus audio on the audience and not all over the room.”

The Tech Works IC Live package is comprised of ICL-R full-range modules and IC215S dual-15-inch bandpass subwoofers that can be combined into six different configurations.

“The scalability and flexibility of the system is fantastic, and allows us to configure a rig for a wide variety of events, from small to large,” Bourke notes. “Our clients love the sound, and they also love the look and profile of the slim columns.”

In addition to IC Live, Tech Works also recently took delivery of several Renkus-Heinz RH62 portable point-source loudspeakers, which utilize the same driver compliment as the IC Live Series, making them ideal front fill and/or delay loudspeakers to supplement IC Live main systems.

“With a width of only 8 inches (the same as the ICL-R modules), we can tuck these boxes into places a more traditional cabinet would not fit yet still get impressive output and superb audio quality,” adds Bourke.
