Extron Now Shipping Select DMP 128 Audio DSP Models with Dante

DMP 128 ATExtron Electronics is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the DMP 128 AT and DMP 128 C AT audio digital signal processors with Dante network connectivity from Audinate. Both DMP 128 models are 12×8 audio mixers featuring Extron ProDSP, automixing, and I/O expansion capabilities. The DMP 128 C AT version also features AEC – acoustic echo cancellation. DMP 128 AT models feature a 56 input by 24 output expansion matrix, providing efficient scalability for creating larger audio matrices over a local area network using standard Internet Protocols. A built-in four-port Gigabit switch provides direct interconnection of multiple DMP 128 AT units. The award-winning DMP 128 Series offers a configuration approach to DSP that simplifies mixing, routing, conferencing, and room optimization. DMP 128 AT models provide scalable audio transport over a local area network using standard Internet protocols. A built-in four-port Gigabit switch also provides direct interconnection of multiple DMP 128 AT units to create larger, cost-effective audio matrixes. Dante technology distributes a virtually unlimited 512×512 audio channels at 24-bit/48 kHz over a single Gigabit Ethernet link, or 48×48 audio channels at 24-bit/48 kHz over a single 100 Mbps Ethernet link, plus integrated control data with extremely low latency. Both Dante and the DMP 128 AT processor’s four-port switch are AVB – Audio Video Bridging ready.

The DMP 128 features Extron ProDSP, engineered from the ground up using a powerful 64-bit floating point DSP engine and studio grade 24-bit converters with 48 kHz sampling. ProDSP is managed by the intuitive DSP Configurator Software, featuring an easy-to-use GUI that allows for complete audio system visualization within a single window. DPA’s d:facto™ Vocal Mic Makes Its Rental Debut

After a live try-out of DPA’s d:facto™ Vocal Microphone at London’s Royal Festival Hall, sound production and rental company RNSS was so impressed with their performance that it has placed an order for six of the new d:facto II Vocal Microphones.

RNSS specified DPA d:facto Vocal Microphones as part of the audio equipment for the London Jazz Festival, an annual event produced in association with BBC Radio 3. Hailed as the capital’s biggest pan-city music festival, The London Jazz Festival featured artists such as Herbie Hancock and Lucinda Williams.

Richard Nowell, director of RNSS, says: “We have had a long association with DPA Microphones and already carry a large stock of the company’s products. I was intrigued by the new d:facto Vocal Microphone and was keen to try it out. The Jazz Festival gave us the perfect opportunity to put it through its paces. We borrowed two d:factos from DPA’s UK distributor Sound Network and used them as high end alternatives to our usual vocal mics. They performed flawlessly and delivered exceptional sound that was much appreciated by the artists and the sound crew.

“Their ability to filter out unwanted noise meant that we could safely use them for singers who were performing in front of an orchestra without the risk of their vocals being drowned out.”

One of the artists who used DPA’s d:facto Vocal Microphone was Kris Kristofferson who performed at the Royal Festival Hall shortly after the Jazz Festival.

OPTOCORE TECHNOLOGY SUPPORTS AUDIO FOR THE 2013 U.S. PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION

Maryland Sound International Utilizes Optocore Network Rings for Signal Distribution and Monitoring

WASHINGTON D.C., FEBRUARY 19, 2013 – When audio integrator Maryland Sound International (MSI) was once again tasked with supplying the main audio system for President Barack Obama’s second presidential inauguration on January 21, 2013, the company employed two Optocore Networks. MSI, a longtime user of Optocore technology, a leading choice for powering professional audio, video and data transmission networks in a variety of markets, including broadcast, post production and AV, chose the networks for their multiple levels of redundancy and reputation of superior reliability. This marks the third presidential inauguration in a row for which MSI has chosen Optocore equipment for the critical audio distribution.

With the ceremony taking place on the grounds of the Capitol in Washington, D.C. in January, MSI was faced with unpredictable winter conditions as well as a long transmission path back to MSI’s Front-of-House position, nearly 2,000 feet from the last speaker tower. MSI and audio designer Patrick Baltzell needed a way to distribute audio signals with as few conversions as possible in order to ensure the approximately 1,000,000 attendees of the ceremony heard every word.

MSI chose Optocore Network technology in order to drive the signal chain directly from the Yamaha PM5D FOH mixing console using Optocore YG2 Yamaha cards that were connected with redundant fiber cabling to the locations of the loudspeaker processors and amplifiers. This provided MSI with lossless digital transmission, which is critical in order to properly transport the audio with crisp sound and clarity over such a long distance transmission path without any glitches.

“The Optocore Networks we put in place for this year’s ceremony certainly made access to all of the amplifiers, signal processors and overall signal distribution far easier and more reliable than in the past,” says Brian Bednar, system technician, MSI. “This time around, everything was more streamlined and faster to set up and tear down at the end of the event.”

The main Optocore Network consisted of one YG2 card in the Yamaha PM5D FOH mixing console connected to an Optocore DD32 networked AES/EBU device on stage right and another DD32 on stage left. Each DD32 was connected to an Optocore X6P-8/8 analog converter and a Dolby DLP loudspeaker processor via AES. The X6P converters gave MSI the ability to feed all the devices that were not AES and/or not driven through the Dolby processor units.

The second Optocore Network consisted of one YG2 card in the PM5D connected to an Optocore DD32R-FX networked AES/EBU device at delay zone 1 (700 feet away) and another DD32R-FX at delay zone 2 (1500 feet away). Each DD32R-FX was connected to an Optocore X6P-16IN analog converter and a Dolby processor via AES. Both networks featured redundant fiber connections.

The DD32R-FX proved to be a helpful add-on for this year’s sound system, with its built-in network wide Ethernet switch. The Optocore Network allowed MSI an easy access to the Dolby DLP loudspeaker processors and amplifiers located off the main site. With a broad part of the sound system offsite, it was then easy to maintain control and monitoring of all the devices on the network to see if they were functioning to MSI’s specifications.

“It is my role to help the FOH engineer tune the system, so having access to all parts of the system at all times in order to make changes without my needing to leave the FOH position is invaluable,” says Art Isaacs, project manager, MSI. “The X6P-16IN converters gave us the functionality to run measurement microphones from multiple city blocks away back to the FOH position. Using the Optocore system proved itself to us in many ways. The sound system was extremely quiet due to the all-AES based drive system. Ethernet access to all of the online devices proved extremely helpful and provided great flexibility. I can only hope that in 2017 that we can continue to work with Optocore systems and further enhance the sound system.”

Modern museum techniques: projectiondesign® helps visitors better comprehend the stories of First World War

The newly opened In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres, Belgium interprets the stories of the First World War as seen in the Flanders region using modern museum techniques and multimedia for visitors of today and tomorrow. projectiondesign® F22, F32 and F35 wqxga projectors and WB processors were provided by specialist museums system integrator, Ocular BVBA for use in the Belle Epoque, First Battle, Ypres Salient and Third Battle exhibit areas with the aim of stimulating a more in-depth look at how museum visitors deal with war and peace.

On entering the museum, a Poppy Bracelet is given to all visitors. As visitors move around the beautifully restored medieval cloth-hall building in the city’s main square, a micro-chip inside their ‘Poppy’, a globally recognised symbol of the First World War, provides them with video projections, interactive touchscreens and soundscapes used to re-create the pain and tragedy of the War.

The museum has always focused on the stories of individuals within the larger picture of the Great War. These personal stories are told through many and varied objects on display, interactive installations and life-like characters.

Piet Chielens, Coordinator In Flanders Fields Museum, explains: “To really embrace the whole public with the impact of landscape then I think the best way of doing it is with projection. That is what we’ve done here. People are really thrilled with the experience and that is largely due to the techniques we’ve chosen to present it.”

Nicolas Vanden Avenne, Managing Director at Ocular BVBA explains: “Every projection surface in this museum is either curved or has a rather unusual shape for projection, which made this a technical challenge. Along with projection, we use the blend and warp functionality of the WB processors throughout the museum.”

As visitors enter the museum, they walk through the Belle Epoque exhibit, which highlights the period of time leading up until the war. In this area two F32 projectors are used to project footage on to a curved structure that looks like a forest of wood panels.

In the First Battle exhibit, an F35 wqxga projector is used to project from the ceiling onto a 3D scale model map of the battlefields from the North Sea to the front line. Viewers can watch the deployment of allied troops in the city of Ypres and the first battle from an eagle’s point of view.

Ypres Saliant uses three projectiondesign F22 projectors and WB1920 processors onto a 170-degree curved screen to observe the progress of the war as if travelling in a balloon high in the sky. Footage includes a view over buildings and deployment of troops around Ypres. The content is a combination of historical footage and custom made film.
Perhaps the most harrowing exhibit the Third battle, uses four F22 projectors onto a curved screen and ceiling to provide symbolic visuals with narration by nurses, doctors, soldiers, priests about one of the bloodiest battles in the First World War.

“To achieve the exhibit areas, Vanden Avenne says, we had to look for a partner that could do the engineering of our projections and cooperate with us during the building of the museum. We turned to projectiondesign because of their high-performance projectors for each exhibit area and choice of lenses.”

“As the museum is open ten hours a day, we wanted to have reliability, longevity with no image degradation. projectiondesign guaranteed that their projectors would remain consistent during heavy use,” adds Vanden Avenne.

Extron DMP 128 Wins InAVation Award at ISE

Extron Electronics is proud to announce that the DMP 128 family of audio digital signal processors has been honored with an EMEA Technology InAVation Award for the Most InAVative Commercial Audio Product – non-loudspeaker. The award was presented during Integrated Systems Europe 2013 in Amsterdam. The EMEA InAVation Awards celebrate all that is best in the pro AV industry throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and globally.

The Extron DMP 128 is a 12×8 audio digital signal processor featuring Extron ProDSP, automixing, and flexible I/O expansion capabilities. The DMP 128 Series includes six models available with AEC – acoustic echo cancellation, Dante audio networking, and POTS. Two models, the DMP 128 and the DMP 128 C featuring AEC, are now shipping.

The DMP 128 Series simplifies mixing, routing, conferencing, and room optimization with quick and intuitive configuration using the DSP Configurator Software. This allows the DMP 128 Series to be installed in very little time, with easy-to-learn adjustments that can be heard in real-time. I/O expansion is available by linking two DMP 128 units together through their digital audio expansion ports. Even more expansion capability is available with Dante audio networking, which provides a very wide range of possibilities for large-scale audio system designs and future system expansion. The DMP 128 is ideal for presentation and conferencing applications in boardrooms, courtrooms, and conference centers that require advanced matrix mixing with DSP.
