PixelFLEX LED Panels Brighten Sunday Service

Thousands crowded into Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis recently for a Sunday service not soon to be forgotten. PixelFLEX LED Curtains adorned the church stage with a vivid, bright and high-quality video screen celebrating the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, adding a more lifelike feel to the service.

Flexible in all directions, PixelFLEX LED Curtains are able to bend and shape around structures for a more creative display, which is why Tony Morris, director of Technical Services for Bellevue, decided to utilize the panels for the performance backdrop.

“The flexibility really provides many advantages over the hard, inflexible panels,” said Morris. “Install and tear-down is extremely easy. Additionally, the rigging hardware on the top is simple to attach to the truss and the interconnection between the panels is all very straightforward.”

The production team cleared out the 75 ft. deep and 130 ft. wide stage, which usually has a 65 piece orchestra and a 200 voice choir, to have a clean slate for creating the atmosphere desired. The panels (20mm- 5 Panels) were used as a backdrop flown from a truss to enhance colors behind the singers, small band and pastor presenting during service that morning. The church’s stage has a trim height of about 45 ft. above the stage and the crew trimmed out the panels at 25 ft.

Videos and images can be sent to the screen using any computer with a DVI-D connection – PixelFLEX LED Curtains are available from low resolution to high resolution, allowing users to demonstrate simple effects or elaborate videos. The high caliber visual components of the curtains come with equally impressive customer service assistance and without the need for an extensive budget.

Pleased with the overall ease of set-up and tear-down, as well as the accessibility of the product, Morris said they are looking at additional ways of using PixelFLEX in the future.

“It’s amazing just how bright those things are,” said Morris. “We plan to try to incorporate the PixelFLEX panels in more elaborate productions moving forward to maximize the worship experience for our congregation.”

Bellevue Baptist Church, founded in 1903 and based out of Memphis, Tenn., is led by Pastor Dr. Steve Gaines and provides in church services as well as podcasts and television services for its members.

Tightrope Media Systems Revitalizes Sports Replay for MCP

Live production company cites stability, ease of use as ZEPLAY selling points

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, August 19, 2013Tightrope Media Systems is helping Mobile Content Providers (MCP) shift into high gear for live, instant sports replay with ZEPLAY. The cost-efficient, multi-channel instant replay system helps MCP maintain its affordable rates for live sports production, while injecting fresh excitement into broadcasts and on venue display screens for professional and collegiate events.

MCP offers affordable, full-service, mobile unit alternatives to generate content instead of the typical 52-foot expanding side trucks. The ZEPLAY is integral to MCP’s workflow, delivering multiple camera angles from two compact units. It also enables the team to quickly build show opens, highlight packages, bump-ins and other high-quality video clips with rapid turnaround.

Above all, MCP counts on ZEPLAY’s rock-solid stability and ease of use.

“ZEPLAY offers stability, which is everything when a production team does a live game for a major network. You can’t have equipment crashing, ” said Ray Colaiacovo, content development and mobile technology director for MCP. “The ZEPLAY is rightly publicized as the fastest replay system, but without stability and ease of use there’s confusion. You don’t have to understand a conventional replay system to operate ZEPLAY. An online editor such as myself from outside the live sports world can learn the system very quickly because of its simple interface.”

The four-in, four-out ZEPLAY design gives MCP 16 video channels across the two units for instant replay. This gives the production team the ability to easily scale to large camera counts, or simply have an extra ZEPLAY on backup for typical productions. This occasionally comes in handy for Colaiacovo.

“We recently did a professional tennis event, and the master control center experienced a satellite dropout during the live broadcast,” he said. “We recorded the program to a ZEPLAY channel on the second machine and replayed that segment from master control. This allowed for a clean airing with no signal dropout. Occasions like this that make our workflow extra appealing.”

Elsewhere, Colaiacovo and his team rely on ZEPLAY’s flexible tagging features for highlights and other packages, allowing operators to quickly locate player data, game information and other details. The built-in multiviewer also enhances operating efficiency within MCP’s compact units, saving space in comparison to large monitors and multiviewer walls that require more real estate.

“Our units are not conventional 18 wheelers, and ZEPLAY gives us a solid machine with plenty of features and flexibility, and integrates well within our compact workflow,” said Colaiacovo, who is currently preparing to unleash ZEPLAY for college and high school football season. “We simply wouldn’t be able to achieve what we do with a large, conventional, complex replay system.”

Matrox M-Series graphics cards showcase digital signage content across an expansive 12×7 foot visual platform

Matrox Graphics today announced that the Auckland Museum has combined two Matrox M9188 PCI Express® x16 octal-monitor graphics cards to cost effectively drive digital signage content across a four-by-four (4×4), 16-monitor video wall. The M9188 multi-display solution supports up to eight high-resolution monitors and was configured with a second M9188 board within the same system to provide the museum with an expansive canvas—at resolutions of 1920X1080 per display—to dynamically promote featured exhibitions and galleries.

The Auckland Museum, one of New Zealand’s most popular tourist attractions, was looking to modernize its entrance’s static information display with a multi-monitor backdrop that would instantly grab and hold the visitor’s attention. The museum contracted Wallflower® Advanced Digital Signage to deploy a captivating digital signage installation and they resourcefully combined two Matrox M9188 octal-monitor graphics cards to power sixteen 40-inch monitors at a total resolution of 7680×4320. The easy-to-use solution allows system operators to intuitively manage the high-resolution imagery and video to effectively engage, inform, and entertain visitors with crisp, clear, and dynamic content. The staff has fully embraced the new digital canvas while remarking the positive effect it’s had on museum visitors.

“There’s no better way for visitors to begin a museum tour than to be wowed by our video wall immediately upon entry,” said Margi Mellsop, Marketing Manager, Auckland Museum. “This stunning visual platform gives us the proper communication channel to uniquely bring the past to the present, while enhancing our visitors’ overall museum experience for years to come.”

Christie Display Technology and Adtech Systems Deliver Lifelike Images and Outstanding Customer Service at Boston College

With a commitment to fostering and imparting knowledge, Boston College has earned its reputation as one of America’s top institutions of higher learning. Therefore, when it was time to upgrade the projection technology at the storied college, Adtech Systems Inc., installed more than 70 Christie® projectors to deliver course material, lectures and presentations in classrooms and auditoriums.

After a successful demonstration, the school is replacing old product with Christie and calling it a great choice. “The (Christie) price point is fantastic compared to any other manufacturer. We had another manufacturer come in – offering all kinds of incentives and programs – and the product just didn’t meet what we wanted and the price point wasn’t right,” said Jim Clements CTS, project manager, Media Technology Services, Boston College. “Nobody comes close to offering what Christie offers. If you can install a Christie projector, why would you buy anything else?”

The seminar rooms are outfitted with Christie LWU420 projectors while a larger, theater-style 80-seat auditorium has a 1-chip DLP® Christie DHD800. Clements confirmed that one Christie LX700 and one Christie DHD675-E are slated for installation in the Fine Arts department.

The 8000 ANSI lumens Christie DHD800 offers full HD and high-brightness in a 1-chip DLP® projector, making it ideally suited for Boston College’s large auditorium. The Christie DHD675-E delivers lifelike color reproduction and its Dynamic Contrast is perfect for the smaller collaborative classrooms and meeting rooms.

“We also have several Christie LWU505 projectors in three different campuses in a number of different buildings including the Arts and Sciences building, which we just built,” said Clements. “The Arts and Sciences building is a 200,000 square foot, gothic-style facility with 54 classrooms using the LWU505 projectors right now.”

More Christie Technology on the Way
“As Bill Copley (Northeast Territory Sales Manager, Christie) and Adtech can see from future projects, we’ve gone out of our comfort zone in model type and we’re starting to incorporate a number of different models. That kind of success just breeds more success for us to go back to the product,” added Clements. “Bill has brought flat panel technologies to my attention. We have a sporting facility that we’re looking at doing some upgrades there – maybe we want to put in some of these environment-safe outdoor panels (Christie FHD551-W). Maybe we want to put in some video walls. Based on our experiences with Christie, it would certainly lead us to follow its product line.

“Bill (Copley) and Matt Fionda of Adtech Systems have been fantastic. Everything that Christie has promised and offered us they have delivered. That says a lot, certainly in this market. A guarantee or warranty is one thing, but to stand behind it and prove it just continues our partnership with Christie and Adtech as long as I’m here.”

Phase Two of the project – which includes an additional 20 projectors – will see a Christie L2K1000 installed in the 200-person capacity auditorium located in the Admissions/Fine Arts building that also hosts general classes and a 20-foot wide screen.
