Christie Brings Cinema Sound to Vivid Life with the Launch of New Christie Vive Audio

Christie®, the world’s dominant brand in the digital cinema projection market, today launched the groundbreaking Christie Vive Audio™ solution to help exhibitors “complete the experience” for their moviegoing audiences. Designed for cinema, Christie Vive Audio leverages a unique articulated, single enclosure line array speaker design and ribbon driver technology, and combines it with the first use of efficient, high-powered Class D amplification in cinema – all at an attainable price point. Christie Vive Audio’s cinema speakers and amplifiers can be easily and efficiently integrated into any existing or new theater auditorium for the ultimate movie viewing and listening experience.
.

Complete Christie Vive Audio System

“The introduction of digital technology has sparked tremendous changes in movie content since 2005, but many theaters are still using audio systems designed for 35mm film,” said Craig Sholder, Christie’s Entertainment Solutions unit vice president. “With Christie Vive Audio, we have found a way to take all the benefits of line array configuration and put it into a cinema environment by combining it with ribbon driver technology and Class D amplification – all in a single, elegant audio solution that is easily attainable to exhibitors.”
.
“Typical audio solutions in the market have not kept up with performance demands of DCI specifications for audio – until now. The Christie Vive Audio integrated solution with its extended frequency response, high dynamic range and ultra fast transient response, along with unprecedented peak-to-average SPL ratios and smooth and even coverage, meets the performance demands of the DCI specification,” said Jim Hall, senior product manager with Christie’s Entertainment Solutions unit. “Christie Vive Audio represents a major leap in cinema sound, with perfect timbre-matching that unleashes the potential of today’s uncompressed digital audio along with leading immersive audio platforms such as Dolby® Atmos™.”
.
The complete Christie Vive Audio solution comprises surround and screen channel speakers, subwoofers, and Class D amplifiers. It offers exhibitors the opportunity to provide audiences with the ultimate movie-viewing experience, enveloping them with dynamic, richly detailed and enhanced audio where speech, special effects, music, and alternative content sound more natural and lifelike. At the core of the system are the combination of superior sounding screen channel speakers with ribbon driver technology and the proven performance of a line array speaker design, all in a single enclosure.
.
This innovative design helps increase the optimal listening area up to four times when compared to conventional compression driver-based audio systems and results in exceptionally smooth and even audio coverage throughout the auditorium. As well, Christie’s Class D amplifiers, which are more compatible with digital sources, are more efficient, resulting in lower operating costs.
.
Added Patrick Artiaga, director, Business Development, Audio Solutions, with Christie’s Entertainment Solutions group, “The complete Christie Vive cinema audio solution can be tailored to the demands of any cinema space, from postproduction studios and screening rooms to traditional and premium large-format auditoriums. Each component of Christie Vive Audio has been specifically engineered to complement the other and combine to deliver a complete solution. By combining the superior performance capabilities of each piece into one integrated solution, Christie Vive Audio brings the next generation of cinema audio to any auditorium.”

Muzika InStore Selects Barix as Exclusive IP Audio Playout Vendor

Barix helps Muzika InStore, retailers and other businesses enhance in-store atmosphere and expedite return on investment

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, July 16, 2013 — IP audio specialist Barix is supporting audio streaming and delivery for Muzika InStore, the new Croatia-based in-store audio service that allows customers to manage their own content. Muzika InStore exclusively uses the Barix Exstreamer 100 IP audio device to receive and decode programming at retail stores and businesses, citing exceptional audio quality, reliability, ease of use and low energy consumption.

The Muzika InStore service is a classic “store and forward” operation that includes two in-house developed web applications to support program development and management. The first application, MIT AddSite, gives customers complete freedom to create in-store audio programs that enhance the retail experience or business atmosphere. The second, MIT FTPstats, focuses on network-wide monitoring and troubleshooting. Current clients include KTC d.o.o, a Croatian chain of retail store and restaurants for which Muzika InStore produces 210 weekly promotions and advertisements, and Bluesun hotels and resorts; as well as retail businesses Metro, Emmerzeta, Trgocentar and Trgostil.

Robert Malekovic, CEO of Muzika InStore, says that the Barix devices help to ensure continuous playout of all in-store audio programs, while delivering a quick return on investment for both his company and his in-store clients.

“No operator in the world can guarantee 100 percent availability of the live internet stream, so we developed our ‘forward and play’ operation with Barix so that we do not have to depend on constant connections,” said Malekovic. “Barix devices are extremely reliable for playout and since each device consumes less than 4W of electricity, customers with multiple devices experience a return on investment in less than one year.”

Muzika InStore’s MIT AddSite application assists the creative process, allowing customers to freely and easily add, schedule and delete music, announcements and local advertisements through a central admin section. It also retains all customer information for simple ongoing management, including hours of operation as well as databases, playlists and musical preferences down to specific genres. Users can also generate reports to show proof of play for advertisers.

Once live at a business, the overall system refreshes itself at the same time each day, creates a playlist for the next week and then disconnects from the Internet to save network resources, ensuring that credit card authorization, point of sale systems and other primary retail systems are unaffected.

Malekovic adds that the ease of setup and installation further reduces his cost of investment. Muzika InStore configures the Barix devices for each client, preloading Exstreamers with Barix FTPMP3 firmware and shipping the plug-and-play devices direct to clients. Muzika InStore also preloads USB sticks, which are attached direct to the Exstreamer 100 to provide secondary, local audio source. This is especially helpful upfront to reduce the initial download needs and minimize network congestion. Meanwhile, newly installed devices automatically connect to Muzika InStore’s network.

“We find the new Barix devices on our servers so that the client can immediately start with creation of music programs and management of ads and promos,” said Malekovic. “The devices start and stop playing based on information the client has input within the AddSite application, so there are no manual interactions required by employees of the shop.”

Buffalo Wild Wings Enhances Game Day Atmosphere with Casio’s LampFree Projectors

Buffalo Wild Wings, a popular sports bar/restaurant franchise based in the United States, wanted to visually enhance and transform its customers’ overall casual dining experience. To do so, Buffalo Wild Wings Franchisee (AMPAL Restaurant Group) sought out DFX – a company specializing in audio, visual, lighting and automation solutions across a number of verticals – to help find high-quality, low maintenance projectors for daily sports viewing. With the help of DFX located in West Berlin, AMPAL  installed 15 of Casio’s projectors across three AMPAL Buffalo Wild Wing  locations in New Jersey.

DFX recommended Casio’s portfolio of projectors because they are LampFree and run on Casio’s state-of-the-art LASER & LED Hybrid Light Source. This means users do not have to replace lamps every 2-3 months, which typically cost almost as much as the original projector cost over one year. With the projectors having an estimated lifespan of 20,000 hours, Buffalo Wild Wings can now provide on-going sports coverage, since the projectors usually run more than 10 hours a day.

“Without the use of mercury lamps, Buffalo Wild Wings no longer has to worry about downtime from lamp failures  or the costly maintenance associated with bulbs,” said Gennaro Esposito, vice president of DFX. “As an industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience, I have found Casio’s projectors to be the ideal solution for establishments like Buffalo Wild Wings.”

By using Casio’s LampFree projection technology, Buffalo Wild Wings has eliminated thetime and cost associated with lamp replacement as well as dark screens during critical events.

“The total cost of ownership, ability to withstand extended daily use and retain brightness were the major components in choosing projection technology,” said Robert Corde, director of operations for AMPAL Restaurant Group, Buffalo Wild Wings. “Casio’s Dual Projection System and Pro Series XJ-H2600 go above and beyond our expectations and have made a significant technological difference in our restaurant locations by cutting down costs and maintenance, and ultimately brightening the atmosphere. Our customers now have the opportunity to watch crisp, vivid imagery unmatched by competitors.”

Three Buffalo Wild Wings locations in New Jersey are currently equipped with Casio’s Dual Projection Systems and Pro XJ H2600 projectors; four (4) in Monmouth Mall, five (5) in Rockaway and six (6) in Watchung, NJ.

The Dual Projection  System, designed with two Casio projectors stacked on top of one another, projects two sharp, high-quality images, which the Convex System control box then merges into one screen. It is available in two different models; the XJ-SK650 and the XJ-SK600. The XJ-SK650 features double stacked Pro Series XJ-H2600 projectors and provides users with up to 6,500 lumens, while the XJ-SK600 features double stacked Signature Series XJ-M250 projectors and provides up to 6,000 lumens. Both of these models provide roughly twice the lumen output provided by a single projector.

The Dual Projection System includes two (2) projectors, ceiling mount housing and the Convex System control box, which corrects and merges screen images. The system features high-precision correction and an interface that allows easy modifications using a remote control.

“Casio is proud to be Buffalo Wild Wing’s premier projector provider,” said Matt Mustachio, general manager of Casio’s Business Projector Division. “We know our Lamp Free projectors will reduce operating costs over the life of the installation and create a space that is both inviting and dynamic. We look forward to our continued relationship with Buffalo Wild Wings.”
