Student Life Ministry Brings High Energy to Be Last Conference with PixelFLEX LED Curtain Video Wall

Student Life, an inter-denominational ministry offering Gospel-centered, high energy summer camps and youth conferences, has taken PixelFLEX’s ultra-flexible and lightweight LED curtain video wall on the road during its Be Last Conference celebrating Mark 9:35: If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.

On the tour, Student Life uses 16 PixelFLEX panels across the stage as an accent to the production’s main 17′ projection screen. The PixelFLEX panels run a variety of content throughout the show, including a series of flags from various countries, to provide different looks and feels on stage. For organizers of Student Life’s Be Last Conference, ease of use and set-up are the primary benefits to using the PixelFLEX solution.

“They are extremely easy to use,” said Jake Brantley, producer for Student Life. “Being able to change the look and feel of our stage at the drop of a hat is invaluable. When we have more of an upbeat sound on stage, we can use fast moving graphics and bright colors to add energy. If we’re trying to create a more serious tone, we can add darker blues and slower motion graphics without having to change the backdrops. All of this can be done simply with a click of a button.”

Flexible in all directions, PixelFLEX LED Curtains are able to bend and shape around structures for a more creative display effect and can be stored in a single road case to simplify shipping. This flexibility is critical to Brantley and his team during the Be Last Conference – both during and after the performance.

“With the way we’re using the LED panels on stage, having the ability to shape the panels as we need to is crucial – in one or two places we use them to create a nice arch or 90 degree bend around a corner,” Brantley stated. “On top of that, it only takes two people to load the panels in and out before and after the show, which means we can be done with set up and tear down more quickly. Finally, the fact that you can fold and store the panels in travel cases is a tremendous cost saver for a small tour like ours.”

Videos and images can be sent to PixelFLEX’s screens using any computer with a DVI-D connection. Each typical screen panel is approximately 8×4, but modifications can be made easily to meet specific needs of the consumer – panels can be attached together with PixelFLEX’s proprietary quicklock system.

“PixelFLEX’s panels give us a ton of versatility with regard to the custom content we’re able to incorporate into the tour,” Brantley remarked. “We have an unlimited amount of options as to what our stage can look like and that is cool.”

Christie Introduces TruLife Electronics Platform, Designed to Deliver Hyper-Realistic Images

Quantum Leap In Video Processing Provides Powerful Combination Of High Frame Rates And High Resolution

Christie®, a world leader in visual technology displays, today unveiled its latest electronics platform – Christie TruLife™ – with a proprietary, 1.2 Gigapixel per second, floating point architecture. Christie TruLife electronics forms the basis for the latest generation of projectors capable of delivering industry-leading ultra high resolution, high frame rate video with unprecedented image fidelity (e.g. 4K resolution image processing at 60 fps and beyond). The current standard digital interfaces such as DVI have a bandwidth of 165 MHz.

Anchored by a high-performance electronics engine that leverages the latest in field-programmable gate array (FPGA) integrated circuits (ICs), the platform is capable of supporting a video-processing pipeline of up to 1.2 Gigapixels per second (GPix/s). Christie projectors based on the new electronics platform will use this very high capacity image-processing power to deliver immersive, hyper-realistic video experiences.

Exclusive Design Delivers True Lifelike Visual Experiences

“Traditional design cycles and the limitations of off-the-shelf video processing ICs were hindering our ability to solve video-processing problems. This was in turn holding back the expression of our customers’ collective imaginations for realizing lifelike, ultra-realistic, immersive environments through video displays,” said Jennifer Smith, vice president of Global Engineering at Christie. “By breaking from the pack with our own custom designs, we were able to build a high-performance video pipeline and computational blocks that deliver the high-fidelity images our customers are clamoring for. The first expression of the Christie TruLife electronics architecture will be debuted at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show April 6-11 in Las Vegas.”

Many industries will immediately benefit from this original video-processing electronics architecture, with cases in point including those end users creating groundbreaking theme-park attractions, visualization “power walls” and flight simulation environments. Christie TruLife electronics will underpin these applications providing customers with realistic experiences, alleviating the image blurring and motion sickness that may accompany these environments.

Speed the Hallmark of the Christie TruLife Electronics Platform

Just how powerful is the Christie TruLife electronics platform? Taking a common measurement of video-processing power – the speed or rate with which video data is processed, typically measured in Gigapixels per second (GPix/s) – the Christie platform scales to reach 1.2 GPix/s, which is nearly 10x faster than standard high-def projection and 4x faster than typical 3D projection, as well as double what other 4K projectors are capable of.

Launching throughout 2013, Christie projectors featuring TruLife will enable 4K2K, Ultra-HD/Quad-HD resolutions today at 60 fps, and will have the capability to support higher resolutions and higher frame rates.

Floating Point Strides

“When increasing the resolution, one simultaneously needs a higher frame rate for the images and increased dynamic range, to make the experience more lifelike. We achieved this by designing a new floating-point processing engine within the platform, which affords an equivalent of 25 bits of fixed point processing as compared to the 8 to 10 bits of processing found in today’s standard projectors. We linked our floating point processing modules with the very latest in ultra high speed serial communication links, called “SerDes” and fast access memory blocks to deliver an unprecedented solution,” said Jeevan Vivegananthan, director of product development, Christie Business Products.

“The increased dynamic range offered by the floating point engine of Christie TruLife will be appreciated by those, such as automobile designers, who want to render the highest fidelity images with very smooth, deep and rich color transitions,” added Vivegananthan.

Christie’s new electronics platform will also facilitate the creation of new user experiences, automated setup, increased connectivity and “smart” control features enabling the next generation of collaborative, augmented reality and projection mapping applications.

“Rather than wait for the traditional video IC industry to catch up with the needs of the professional AV market, Christie took the lead and pioneered its own technology solution,” added Smith.

Christie is showcasing some of its newest technologies, including new projectors based on the Christie TruLife electronics platform, at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show April 6-11; see Booth SL 2609.

Screen Innovations Black Diamond Motorized Projection Screen is now Shipping Worldwide

Innovative Black Diamond Motorized Screen Technology is Easy to Install and Delivers Impressive Image Quality While Preserving Room Aesthetics

Austin, TX  – March 28, 2013 – Screen Innovations(SI), a leading US-

Black Diamond Motorized is a unique and elegant alternative to flat panel TVs.

based manufacturer of projection screens and associated technologies, announced today that the much-anticipated Black Diamond Motorized projection screen is now shipping to integrators and end users worldwide.

Black Diamond™ Motorized

Featuring a brand new and truly unique motorized design utilizing SI’s award-winning Black Diamond ambient light rejection screen technology, Black Diamond Motorized is a sleek and sexy flat panel alternative that delivers stunning images yet disappears when not in use, making it ideal for virtually any environment or application.

Utilizing one motor, four custom helixes, and a spool of slender aircraft cable, Black Diamond Motorized silently lowers a thin wing containing the rolled Black Diamond screen downward from a recessed ceiling-mounted cassette. The cable-hung wing then stops, and from it, a small tube quickly emerges and lowers itself down to an adjustable, pre-determined image height, leaving only the image space in sight. Because Black Diamond screens do not require masking or any black drop material whatsoever, there is no visible material above, below, or on either side of the screen surface, allowing the images projected on Black Diamond Motorized to appear as though they are suspended in air.

Unlike flat panel TVs, Black Diamond Motorized delivers zero glare and reflection when used in a bright environment, and by virtue of its industry-leading Black Diamond ambient light rejection screen technology, light scatter is measurably reduced by over 75%. Delivering a next-level entertainment experience while literally disappearing into the room’s existing décor when not in use, Black Diamond Motorized appeals to the senses – and satisfies the needs of - a diverse audience in either residential or commercial environments. Black Diamond Motorized is the ultimate blend of art + science.
