Extron Now Shipping Three Input Compact HDCP-Compliant Scaler

Extron DSC 301 HDExtron Electronics is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the DSC 301 HD, a compact HDCP-compliant video scaler. This scaler has an HDMI input, a configurable high resolution analog input, a composite video input, and an HDMI output. Featuring an advanced scaling engine with 30-bit processing and 1080i deinterlacing, the DSC 301 HD delivers uncompromised picture quality for output resolutions up to 1920×1200, including 1080p and 2K. It includes EDID Minder®, automatic input switching, and simplifies system connections by embedding audio from one of the three stereo inputs onto the HDMI output.

“The DSC 301 HD delivers high performance and a compelling feature set,” says Casey Hall, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Extron. “With its compact form factor and integrator-friendly features, this scaler lends itself to basic conference room applications as well as more complex systems where multiple scalers are deployed into a large signal distribution system.”

The DSC 301 HD offers several features that enhance and simplify AV system setup and operation. For HDMI signals with protected content, Key Minder® authenticates and maintains continuous HDCP encryption between input sources and displays to ensure quick and reliable switching. EDID Minder ensures that the display’s capabilities are communicated to connected video sources to obtain an optimal image. Front panel controls, intuitive on-screen menus, plus USB and RS-232 connections provide flexible control and monitoring capability.

Extron Expands HDMI Distribution Amplifier Lineup

Extron HDMI DA SeriesExtron Electronics is pleased to introduce two new, larger HDMI distribution amplifiers as part of its HDMI DA Series product line. The HDMI DA4 with four outputs, and HDMI DA6 with six outputs, are HDCP compliant and support HDMI specification features including data rates up to 6.75 Gbps, 12-bit Deep Color, 3D, Lip Sync, and HD lossless audio formats. They also support HDTV 1080p/60 and PC resolutions up to 1920×1200. For ease of integration and reliable operation, the HDMI DA Series features two Extron-exclusive technologies: EDID Minder®, which maintains continuous EDID communication between connected devices, and Key Minder®, which continuously authenticates HDCP encryption between all devices, ensuring the simultaneous distribution of source content to connected displays. The HDMI DA Series is ideal for applications that require the distribution of an HDMI source signal to multiple displays.

“The Extron HDMI DA2 has fast become a favorite of AV integrators, and many have asked for the same robust feature set in larger sizes,” says Casey Hall, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Extron. “The new HDMI DA4 and HDMI DA6 are designed for the demands of commercial AV integration in larger system designs, while maintaining the same ease of setup and installation found in all of our HDMI products.”

To enhance and simplify integration, the HDMI DA Series offers integrator-friendly features, including automatic input cable equalization, automatic color bit depth management, and selectable output muting, as well as indicators for monitoring and troubleshooting. Input cable equalization restores and reshapes incoming HDMI signals, reducing the need for additional signal conditioning equipment by compensating for weak source signals or signal loss from a long input cable. The HDMI DA Series automatically adjusts color bit depth based on the display EDID, preventing color compatibility conflicts between source and display. Outputs can be muted independently via RS-232, allowing content to be previewed on a local monitor. Additionally, the distribution amplifiers provide immediate visual confirmation of EDID status, HDCP authentication, and signal presence confirmation for each port via front panel LED indicators.

Boxx TV’s Meridian is Behind the Scenes on Oscar(r)-Nominated Films

Django Unchained, Skyfall and Zero Dark Thirty Get Boost from Wireless Technology

(LOS ANGELES, CA) Three of this year’s Academy Award(r)-nominated films chose Boxx TV‘s Meridian Wireless Microwave Broadcast System for reliable, 4:2:2 uncompressed video with zero delay. The Meridian was the system of choice for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, Sam Mendes’ Skyfall and Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty, capping a busy year for the company headquartered in the UK, along with its reseller Boxx Communications in Los Angeles.

“We are extremely proud that our technology contributed to the amazing stories told in these Oscar(r)-nominated films,” says Scott Walker, co-founder of Boxx TV. “We understand that everything is important during production. Image quality, reliability, and zero delay are all crucial. The Meridian provides high-image quality consistently, and is highly reliable whether you are shooting in high-desert heat on the hunt for Bin Laden, moving through a free-wheeling Tarantino project, or following the action of a legend like Bond. Working with the production teams of these incredibly accomplished films was an honor and a great experience.”

For those situations that demand high-quality, zero-delay HD and SD live transmission, the Meridian is an affordable alternative to traditional COFDM systems with unprecedented success. The Meridian system uses license-exempt channels.

Django Unchained’s five Oscar(r) nods include Best Picture and Best Cinematography, for last year’s Oscar(r) winner, Robert Richardson, ASC. There were two Boxx Meridian systems and handheld receivers used during the production of the multi-nominated Tarantino project.

Skyfall grabbed a total of five nominations, including one for Best Cinematography for Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC. The production used five zero-delay Meridian systems, simultaneously, in conjunction with ALEXA cameras supplied by ARRI Media UK.

Also earning five Oscar(r) nominations, Zero Dark Thirty used three systems and handheld receivers. The film’s Oscar(r) nods include one for Best Picture.

Their customers’ nominations come on the heels of one of the company’s busiest years on record. “It is great to be associated with Oscar(r)-nominated projects and we’re thrilled,” adds Mark Walker, owner of Boxx Communications. “That said, we worked on many great projects last year, from feature films, to live coverage of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, to episodic television shows such as Revenge and Modern Family; and on breaking news stories on stations such KABC, KNBC and KTLA. We are dedicated to making sure that our clients have great images, no delay, and an incomparable ease of use every time.”
