Seymour-Screen Excellence Delivers Retractable Multi-Aspect Ratio A.T. Film Screen; Sets the Standard for Integration of a Reference Theater Screen into Non-Dedicated Rooms

Ames, IA – May 20, 2013 – Seymour-Screen Excellence is now shipping its multi-format retractable (MFR) film screen – a motorized dual-roller acoustically transparent film screen outfitted with a retractable masking system to perfectly frame different aspect ratios.

The foundation of the MFR is SSE’s exclusive Enlightor-4K woven-fabric acoustically transparent film screen surface. This .98 gain surface is both ISF-certified for color purity and is the only acoustically transparent screen that has no visible holes, weave, texture, or minimum seating distance.

The MFR is sold with either a lateral system (2 vertical masks) to display 16:9 while maintaining a constant image height on a 2.35 screen, or a horizontal system (1 mask) to display 2.35 while maintaining a constant image width on a 16:9 screen.

Either of the masking options descends and ascends via a second roller (hidden in the case). SSE specializes in woven-fabric acoustically transparent film screens; all of its masks are made of a black, lightweight acoustically transparent material.

According to SSE Managing Director Chris Seymour, the company is the only brand to trim its retractable models with a fabric velvet border. Employed is the company’s proprietary Infinite Black™ material which delivers substantially more light absorbing power than that of painted borders. The material also frames the screen image with a sharp, high-contrast edge.

Exclusive to all of SSE’s retractable designs is the company’s patented Uni-tab™ system which serves to hide most of the side tensioning cables behind the borders. This continuous tension system eliminates the unsightly hourglass shape common to tab-tensioned screens while providing a completely smooth projection surface.

”The Multi-Format Retractable perfectly achieves the same performance and multiple aspect ratio conveniences of our home theater-optimized Reference Fixed-Frame series,” says Seymour. “This is a win for homeowners that want to experience these same attributes in a non-dedicated room such as a living or multipurpose room, where the film screen can drop in front of a flat panel with the speaker locations no longer an issue, and completely disappear when not in use.”

The MFR case is made from extruded aluminum and finished in choice of black, white or custom colors; additional options include black velvet or glossy automotive coatings. The case measures 5.8-inches high x 5.5-inches deep and can accommodate either on-ceiling or on-wall mounting.

With quiet 120v European 4-wire motors and optional external control box, actuating the MFR screen can be accomplished with SSE’s wall switches, infrared (IR) receivers, Vdc triggers, radio frequency (RF) receivers, RS-232 or several other special order options.

The MFR is available in sizes ranging from 70- to 150-inches wide. The models are completely built in the US and ship within 3 weeks from order. For more information visit www.seymourscreenexcellence.com.

Technomad Expands PowerChiton Series for InfoComm 2013

Compact outdoor amplifier and “breakout box” series adds new model, more features

BOSTON, May 20, 2013
Technomad comes to InfoComm 2013 with new upgrades to its PowerChiton series of outdoor, weatherproof amplifier modules and breakout box accessories, giving end users and systems integrators more audio options for stadiums, resorts and other outdoor venues and facilities.

The compact and low profile of PowerChiton amplifier modules — available in four power levels up to 1600 watts — enables sound contractors to install the modules on light poles and other surfaces at any height for co-location with loudspeakers. A new balanced input provides customers with a choice of balanced and unbalanced connections, and three new integrated crossover filter options (350Hz high-pass, 85Hz high-pass, and 85Hz low-pass) allow installers to optimize amplifier performance for the assigned speakers. Filter options are selected or changed by moving the pre-amp-to-amplifier cable from one pre-amp output to another.

Technomad last year introduced the PowerChiton BreakoutBox, a companion product that enables local audio control at user-friendly locations in the same NEMA-style protective enclosure. Contractors wire the PowerChiton amplifier modules direct to the BreakoutBox, typically installed at eye level so end users can adjust volume and connect devices on the fly.

This year, Technomad introduces BreakoutBox XL, a deeper enclosure offering three expansion bays for use with up to three Technomad wireless microphones and/or custom Technomad Schedulon master audio playout systems. The BreakoutBox XL offers extra storage space so end users can lock and leave devices following an event, and adds a mic/balanced line input channel that combines into a single jack.

“The expansion slots allow customers to truly have a complete PA system for permanent outdoor installation while adding several integrated source options,” said Rodger von Kries, vice president, Technomad. “For applications such as athletic fields and resorts, audio systems can now be installed anywhere with power.”

Technomad will also demonstrate PowerChiton-integrated Apple AirPlay capability for iOS devices. This allows commercial and residential customers to wirelessly stream iTunes audio files and playlists to any iOS device in range within a PowerChiton amplifier or breakout box, reducing costs and infrastructure associated with traditional wiring and cabling.

Technomad will also show the latest design upgrades to its advanced audio loudspeakers, notably redesigned ports to its popular Noho model to enhance bass response. The new design reduces port compression and turbulence at higher SPL levels, and provides low-frequency output of +3dB at 85Hz.

Noho loudspeakers are available standalone or as part of complete Technomad Turnkey PA System with a powered amplifier, six-channel mixer, microphones, cables and more in a 6RU protective equipment rack. Mounting options include outdoor yoke mounts to simplify hanging, and Technomad’s recently-introduced stainless steel mount. Both are specifically built to survive long-term outdoor conditions, with the stainless steel mount able to tightly lock in Technomad loudspeakers from multiple fly points.

Technomad will exhibit this year at Booth 513. InfoComm 2013 takes place June 12-14 at the Orange County Exhibition Center in Orlando.

Christie Solaria Series Projectors Light Up the Warner Bros. World Premiere of “The Great Gatsby” in 3D at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City

The highly anticipated world premiere of Warner Bros. “The Great Gatsby” lit up the screen in brilliant 3D, thanks to Christie Solaria® Series digital cinema projectors, which brought to life the splendor of the roaring twenties in rich, saturated colors and sharp, 4K-resolution. The star-studded event took place at Avery Fisher Hall, an iconic New York City venue at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the film is based on the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. on May 10. The event was a glamorous evening worthy of the film’s 1920s setting, featuring an audience filled with the film’s stars—Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Isla Fisher, Joel Edgerton, and Carey Mulligan. A host of other A-list celebrities, including Jay-Z and Jake Gyllenhaal, also made appearances at the red carpet event.

“Christie is thrilled to have projected the world premiere of ‘The Great Gatsby’, a long-awaited movie based on one of the most beloved literary classics,” said Craig Sholder, vice president, Entertainment Solutions, Christie. “As a trusted leader in digital cinema projection, we were pleased that that our projectors displayed all the splendor and opulence of ‘The Great Gatsby,’ fully realized in 3D!”

Preferred Christie® dealer Digital Media Systems selected two top-of-the-line Christie CP4230 DLP® digital cinema projectors for the screening, which converged the light from two projectors to create a seamless image projected onto a silver screen. Gregg Paliotta, president and owner of Digital Media Systems, said that this 4K Christie solution was the only choice for providing the brilliant 3D images needed.

“We have done other major premieres at Avery Fisher Hall in the past, such as ‘Hugo’ and ‘War Horse,’ so Warner Bros. and Lincoln Center trusted us and Christie to deliver the high brightness and absolutely flawless picture quality needed to screen this major studio event,” said Paliotta. “The Christie projectors always perform to our expectations, and ‘The Great Gatsby’ premiere was no exception. We are proud to be an exclusive Christie dealer for that reason.”

Electrosonic Goes Back To Nature for Mohonk Preserve Visitor Center

Source: Electrosonic, http://www.electrosonic.co.uk/news/electrosonic-goes-back-nature-mohonk-preserve-visitor-center

(c) Electrosonic

Mohonk Preserve in the Shawangunk Mountains near New Paltz, New York, is marking its 50th anniversary this year with a renovation of its green design award-winning Visitor Center tucked cozily into the woods. Electrosonic was charged with creating several new exhibits for the main floor, which enable visitors to maximize their time in New York’s largest nonprofit nature preserve.

Electrosonic installed and programmed the 10-minute orientation film produced by Richard Lewis Media Group, and displayed it in a visitor orientation theater with bench seating. The theater boasts a 26-foot wide curved screen fed by four projectiondesign F12 projectors blended and warped via Dataton WATCHOUT™ multi-image display and presentation software.

“The theater was our biggest challenge,” noted Electrosonic project manager Jackson Benedict. “It’s a very small space with a low ceiling. We had to use fixed-lens projectors, which meant there was very little tolerance in installing them. We had to build a custom ceiling mount that allowed for projector adjustment in the field, as necessary. Projector airflow in the small space also had to be managed effectively.

“The very sharp curve of the screen provided a challenge for warping the blend in WATCHOUT,” Benedict said. “It was quite complicated. Shifting the projector one inch in the wrong direction would change everything.”

A small control room behind the screen houses equipment in a single rack. The content for all of the interactives can be updated remotely to keep content fresh and up to date. “Electrosonic worked with the exhibit fabricators to make sure we had relatively easy access to all equipment for service,” said Benedict.

With over 8,000 acres of mountain ridges, fields, streams, ponds and other unique and beautiful places, Mohonk Preserve is dedicated to protecting the Shawangunk Mountains by inspiring people to care for, enjoy and explore the natural world. Visitors can bike, hike, climb, ride horses, run, ski and snowshoe in the Preserve. Lee H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership was responsible for the architecture, interiors, graphic design and exhibit design of the Visitor Center project.

Scrabble Entertainment Launches Most Affordable Digital Conversion Leasing Program for Exhibitors in North America

Scrabble Entertainment, an international deployment entity, is excited to announce the immediate roll-out of its affordable lease-to-own digital conversion program. The program to deploy DCI-compliant digital cinema equipment is supported by major Hollywood studios in the form of certain financial contributions pursuant to the terms of each agreement separately reached with each studio. The program does not require any financial pre-qualifications or credit check of any kind. The lease term, with an option to buy the equipment at the end of the lease at no residual value, will be of immense value to all potential exhibitors. Among the Hollywood studios that have signed up so far to separate, non-exclusive agreements are Warner Bros. Pictures, Walt Disney Motion Pictures, Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, and 20th Century Fox. Scrabble is also in advanced negotiations with Sony Pictures Releasing Corporation.

“Scrabble Entertainment has enjoyed exceptional success in helping exhibitors convert to digital cinema in several countries, where we are responsible for 100% conversion of multiplexes covered by our programs,” noted Ranjit Thakur, founder and CEO of Scrabble Entertainment, which also recently expanded into South America. “We recognized the extraordinary financial pressures faced by many thousands of independent exhibitors, drive-in theatres, and art house theatres throughout the United States and Canada, which operate under tight budgets and could not easily afford the move to digital cinema technology. Working with preferred equipment suppliers and technical service providers, and with the financial support to be provided by the Hollywood studios under their respective agreements, we developed this flexible, lease-to-own program specifically tailored to accommodate the conversion of such screens to digital projection.”

Scrabble Entertainment has partnered with Christie Digital Systems, USA Inc, not only to supply equipment to the program, but also to include Christie Managed Services, which will provide remote monitoring and comprehensive maintenance, with round-the-clock support through Christie’s Network Operations Center (NOC), along with preventative servicing and on-site emergency response.

“Local theaters are often important cultural and social hubs in their communities, and it is vital that they continue to provide quality entertainment to moviegoers,” said George Scheckel, Director of Business Development for Entertainment Solutions, Christie. “We are very pleased to be selected by Scrabble Entertainment as a preferred supplier of DCI-compliant digital cinema projectors, as well as a provider of technical support through Christie Managed Services. With more than 80 years of experience working with exhibitors of all sizes, we are ready to ensure a seamless move to digital by providing the highest quality equipment and service expertise, throughout the conversion process and for years to come.”

Scrabble is at CinemaCon 2013, Meeting Services Boardroom, Promenade Level (Across from Capri Room), Caesars Palace® Las Vegas.
