Christie Display Technology Used at the Opening of Lusofonia Games 2014

The stunning visuals by award-winning projection designer and his team, BARTKRESA Design Inc., were displayed using Christie®’s compact, purpose-built projectors. This visual experience enthralled thousands of spectators who have gathered in Goa, India for the 3rd edition of the Lusofonia Games. The sporting event, which takes place January 18-29, features 40 Christie Roadster S+20K, Roadster S+22K-J and Roadster HD20K-J 3-chip DLP® projectors at the opening ceremony that includes an impressive projection mapping show.

Audio Design, Christie’s local partner that is fully responsible for the Games’ visual display, collaborated with world-renowned projection designer BARTKRESA Design Inc. to create the stunning and engaging visual spectacle. The Christie projectors are installed strategically in six towers around the 22,000-seat Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium – the venue of the opening ceremony – and they have been accurately calibrated for maximum projection coverage and seamless edge blending onto the field during the event.

The performances at the opening ceremony encompass the spirit of “unity and pride”, which are the key elements of the Games, as well as the rich history and heritage of Indian and Goan culture that are celebrated through the theme “Panchatattva” – the five elements of nature comprising fire, water, earth, air and ether.

Among the countries taking part in the 12-day tournament are Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Guinea-Bissau, Macau (China), Mozambique, Portugal and Sao Tome and Principe. Equatorial Guinea, India and Sri Lanka are associate members of the Games.

Christie is “Front and Center” With Launch of New Series of Front Access Christie Entero HB Rear Projection Cubes

It’s “eyes front” for Christie®, a world leader in control room display technology, with the introduction of a new front access video wall cube product that enables seamless high performance rear projection video wall displays with minimal installation and maintenance space required. All the benefits of Christie’s latest and brightest Entero™ HB DLP® LED-based technology display are available in a platform that allows video wall cubes to be positioned directly against a rear wall, removing the need for maintenance space behind. The first front access cube model, the Christie Entero HB 70-inch HD, will be joined by other front access models including 50 inch and 70 inch SXGA+, and 72 inch WUXGA.

Christie’s front access system design addresses space limitations with the ability to put the cubes up against a wall without compromising performance, image quality or reliability. Customers can gain valuable space in their control room design by placing cubes directly against a wall, while maintaining the narrowest screen gaps in the industry and utilizing a smart air flow design for superior system ventilation.

The front access system is designed to take advantage of the Christie Entero HB systems’ User and Web Interface to enable remote control release of the screen for front service access as well as remotely performing fine geometry alignment by the integrated 6-axis geometry alignment system. Screen and geometry control are provided via the remote control, computer or tablet. The screen is on a slide mechanism and opens up with reliable and consistent positioning, via remote activation of solenoids, providing full access to the internal electronics from the front of the cube array system, allowing for exceptionally quick servicing and minimal downtime during maintenance operations.

“With space at a premium at many installation sites, front access cubes make it possible to install them right up against a wall or a structure,” said Jim Gavloski, director, Product Management, Control Room and Video Wall Display Solutions. “It’s a significant design element that will greatly expand the installation flexibility and ease of maintenance within our entire Christie Entero HB line.”

Christie’s front access system with motorized six-axis adjuster provides precise alterations for perfect image quality. To access system internals, the installer simply engages the intuitive user interface on the chosen device -PC, tablet or even smart phone, and the system pops the screen away from the cube body, allowing the installer to easily move the screen out of the way for full front access. The internal electronics module has been adjusted to make the LED display viewable from the front. Since no space is required behind the display wall cube, it makes them ideal for control room environments where space is restricted.

Middle Atlantic Names Brubaker Regional Sales Manager

Fairfield, NJ––Middle Atlantic Products has appointed Blake Brubaker as Regional Sales Manager for Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota.

Christie MicroTiles Showing the Dupont Story at Johnston Dupont Innovation Center

Christie® and AVI Systems have created a striking 10-unit wide by 5-units tall Christie® MicroTiles® digital display wall in Johnston, Iowa that impressed those attending the Center’s grand opening June 25. Also known as the Collaboratory, and the twelfth center DuPont has opened globally, the Johnston DuPont Innovation Center provides a unique environment for collaboration among more than 10,000 DuPont scientists and engineers with customers, government officials, academics, and business partners around the world.

The 3,500 square foot space and adjoining collaboration room showcases the latest company technology, applications and products that are designed to meet the world’s biggest challenges, including food security, energy and protection.

AVI Systems and DuPont Choose Christie MicroTiles
The initial idea was to install flat panels but Les Hofland, System Sales Specialist, CTS, AVI Systems, had Christie MicroTiles in mind from the start.

“We showed the 5-high by 1-wide Christie MicroTiles tower we have to some people at the Center about two months before they brought us into this meeting,” said Hofland. “I brought in the DuPont people and one thing they really liked was that on each MicroTiles unit they could pull out the light engine and put a new one in within 15 minutes. They didn’t have to worry about replacing the entire wall.”

Christie and AVI Systems Meet Strict Deadline; Christie MicroTiles Overcome Substantial Ambient Light
Working with McCullough Creative, who produced the corporate videos and other content shown on the Christie MicroTiles, the installation team had a June 22 cutoff date for the opening three days later.

“The room was still under construction so we couldn’t get in there until the last week in May. They wanted the wall up and running a couple weeks ahead of the deadline to give the software designers some play time with the equipment,” said Hofland. “We met the deadline and I was very happy with the information we received for designing the wall. Everything showed up just days after we put the order in; things happened quickly and we were surprised about the fast delivery time. Christie really stepped up to the plate.”

Since they are located against one wall in a large, south facing room with glass windows running almost ceiling to floor, bright sunlight often bathes the Christie MicroTiles.

“Bright, ambient light is a factor but it doesn’t impact the MicroTiles at all,” said Hofland. “The display always looks nice and full without any problems seeing it. Everyone loves the MicroTiles and think it’s the best thing they have ever seen.”

With a much wider color palette than conventional LCD displays, Christie MicroTiles show pure, saturated, accurate colors. The modular display technology can be configured into nearly any shape and size to create a gorgeous digital canvas.
