DANLEY EXPANDS LINE OF OS “OUTDOOR SERIES” FULLY-WEATHERIZED LOUDSPEAKERS

GAINESVILLE, GEORGIA: Danley Sound Labs, maker of innovative loudspeakers and subwoofers, announces the expansion of its OS “Outdoor Series” of fully-weatherized loudspeakers, including a new fully-weatherized subwoofer. Although all Danley products are optionally available with level-2 weatherization, which includes fiberglass seams, stainless steel hardware, and protective coatings over all wooden components, the fact remains that those wooden components will have a shorter life span in the elements than they would have had in an indoor installation. In contrast, Danley OS products are constructed of molded plastic with a custom injection molded shell rated to last fifty-years. The cabinet is sealed so the inner components are also protected from harsh outdoor elements. The materials are sourced from within a half-hour of Danley’s Gainesville, Georgia headquarters – a boon for large orders and/or short lead times.

“Like all of our Synergy Horn loudspeakers, the Danley OS-80 sounds fantastic,” said Mike Hedden, president of Danley Sound Labs. “Fidelity is excellent and distortion is remarkably low at all SPLs, and the OS-80 has the same highly-articulated coverage pattern and arrayability for which Danley is known. What sets the OS-80 apart is that its construction and materials make it impervious to the weather, for years and decades to come. Our local sources and molding machinery make it easy for us to turn over large Outdoor Series orders on short notice. Moreover, the molding process itself is very efficient, which allows us to sell the OS products at fiercely competitive prices.”

Soon, the OS-80′s versatile 80-degree conical coverage pattern will be joined by other OS models with a diversity of coverage patterns that will give designers greater flexibility to meet the needs of a range of outdoor situations. These will include the OS-90 and OS-100. In addition, the new Danley OS-115LF subwoofer will extend the bottom end of the OS line and the OS Nano will be the power of Danley in the palm of your hand.

Shotoku Makes Gains With El Financiero ׀ Bloomberg TV

UNIQUE VR TRACKING SYSTEM DELIVERS AUGMENTED REALITY SOLUTION FOR FINANCIAL NEWS BROADCASTER IN MEXICO CITY

Mexico City – Shotoku Broadcast Systems, a leading international manufacturer of advanced camera support products, has announced the recent installation of its highly regarded Shotoku TK-53LVR Dolly Crane System for a Virtual Studio at El Financiero|Bloomberg TV, a station based in Mexico City that broadcasts, through an alliance with Bloomberg NY, both worldwide and local financial-based programming to Mexico and Central America. The sale was facilitated through long-time Shotoku dealer Comtelsat, based in Mexico City with offices in US, Brazil and Central America, to help the station deliver stunning graphics and visuals to viewers.

According to Ricardo Granada, IT & TV support manager, El Financiero|Bloomberg TV, the station is using the TK-53LVR system, alongside a Vizrt Virtual Studio solution, Grass Valley LDX camera dedicated to the Shotoku system, and a Kayak production switcher, as an augmented reality system, for the graphics and statistics, as well as logos of the station’s sponsors in some sections. It is used for augmented reality and virtual elements matched to the real studio.

“They don’t use a traditional lower third or a bumper to show some sponsored section of the news show,” explains Angélica Elizalde, sales executive and specialist in graphic solutions for Comtelsat. “Instead, they use the logo of the sponsor in augmented reality during the whole section — which is way more spectacular, since the anchor is interacting with the virtual element. Also, the anchors can present statistics and schemes that come out right from the floor of the studio — which is a simpler and more creative way to present the information to the audiences. And those graphics can get sponsored, too.”

“We knew the brand from other installations and knew it was a reliable and very stable system,” says Granada. “We were quite impressed because of the length of the crane and the possibilities it has for live production; and also by the fact that no other vendor has a product with the same quality, accuracy and level of service we are used to receive from Shotoku.”

The Shotoku TK-53LVR Dolly Crane System for Virtual Studio offers a unique set of VR features coupled with a sturdy twin arm structure that provides vibration-free, high performance with a single operator. The VR Dolly Crane System allows any studio to be easily transformed into a virtual environment without the need for targets on the ceiling, floors, or walls, or infrared sensors. Reliable, accurate and immediate VR data, including pan/tilt, zoom, focus and X/Y camera date is sent to the graphic computer via an RS422 cable. A Pan Bar control unit maximizes optimal pan & tilt operation. The TK-53LVR also features Shotoku’s unique SPi-Touch 2 point calibration system for quick set-up.

“We’ve been dealers for Shotoku for a number of years, and we have always preferred the system because of its reliability and accuracy in the mechanical tracking data –it’s just the best,” adds Elizalde. “They can have a 360-degree tracking of virtual elements; the arm of the crane is totally vibration free (no matter the length of it, which is quite large). They can make a very large range of movements without worrying about undesired bumping; plus they just need one operator to manage the whole system (nevertheless, they often use two people just to make sure, but most of the time is just one). Also, unlike some other systems, Shotoku guarantees that there won’t be any delay or loss on the receiving of the mechanical tracking data.”

Granada adds, “I have been a user for a few years, but I never worked with a crane system, so this was a challenge. Nevertheless, the system has proved to be as reliable as all other Shotoku products I know. Once you get to know it, it is fairly simple and straightforward to use. Overall, it’s easy to manage, it’s accurate and the final result is always impressive.”

Yamaha YCATS Training Moves Toward Future In Networking

BUENA PARK, Calif.—Yamaha Commercial Audio Training Sessions (YCATS) is moving in a new direction with their console training programs. This year, YCATS has created two new console classes in order to eliminate the repetition between the CL, QL, M7CL and LS9 seminars as these consoles share many of the same software features. The new classes will initially be held at HB Live during the first week of August, HB Live is sponsoring a CL/QL Series Essentials Class in North Haven, CT and ATR/Treehouse is sponsoring the same class in Warwick, RI.

HB Live, a division of HB Communications will host new sessions Tuesday, August 5th between 8:30 – 5:00 pm at 60 Dodge Avenue, North Haven, CT. For more information, call 800-331-1804. Registration details below.

ATR/Treehouse sessions will be held Thursday, August 7th between 8:30 am – 5:00 pm at the Ocean State Theater, 1245 Jefferson Blvd, Warwick, RI. Complementary breakfast and lunch will be served. For more info, contact ATR/Treehouse at 401-751-3121. Registration details below.

“The new YCATS training direction will be much for efficient and streamlined for our customers,” states Marc Lopez, Marketing Manager, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. “We are improving the YCATS programs for networking and acknowledge that our end user customers operate different Yamaha digital consoles from time to time with many common paradigms between the various models that enables us to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our training programs.”

Console Operation – Level 1 is for those with little or no familiarity with Yamaha live sound consoles. Console Operation – Level 2, is more of an intermediate to advanced class designed for those familiar with the basic functions of Yamaha digital consoles. This new training format will allow YCATS more efficiency in terms of customer time. It will also reinforce that the software of Yamaha digital consoles is the same, and a user familiar with one should have no problem operating another. Right now, the largest demand is for training on CL, QL, M7CL and LS9; all sharing similar software.

In addition to the new Console Operation Levels, YCATS is adding “Digital Sound Reinforcement – Dante” and “CL/QL Series Essentials”. “DSR – Dante” is a one-day class covering design and use of Dante networks with Yamaha products as well as several third party products (i.e. Shure ULX-D and Aviom D800). “CL/QL Series Essentials” is a class for those who have been trained on the M7CL and LS9 and covers all new features with the CL and QL consoles and the set up of Dante networks.

For an end user looking for more in depth information on a particular console, YCATS has produced an online video series that can be used as a reference. New videos and webinars are on the docket for later this year.

Slovakia Medical University Complex Get the Renkus-Heinz Treatment

Banská Bystrica, Slovakia – July 2014… One of the region’s most respected institutions, Slovak Medical University has recently completed a major renovation and reconstruction project at their campus in Banská Bystrica. The multi-functional complex includes several classrooms, student dormitories, and a large, multi-purpose auditorium and presentation hall, used for graduations, conferences, technical seminars, and more.

The complex underwent a full technology modernization, including new audio, conferencing, and interpretation systems, as well as video, digital signage, and information technology systems. The systems were designed and installed by Bratislav-based MediaTech, one of the largest professional AV firms in central Europe, and include a full range of loudspeakers from Orange County, CA-based Renkus-Heinz.

The main system includes several ICONYX IC16-R-II and IC8-R-II digitally steered arrays, as well as a number of ICX7-II mechanically steered arrays. ICONYX steered array technology enables precise steering of the sound toward the audience and away from walls and other reflective surfaces, reducing reflections and improving intelligibility.

“The hall has always been very challenging acoustical space, and there were a lot of problems with spoken word intelligibility. Of course, this affects people’s ability to communicate, and to learn,” reports MediaTech General Director, Ing. Bohumil Tonkovic. “The ICONYX systems really provided an excellent solution. Intelligibility has been dramatically improved, and their low profile design integrated nicely with the building’s architecture.”

Elsewhere in the complex, Renkus-Heinz CFX41 and CFX61 two way systems provide additional sound reinforcement. State-of-the-art video systems include large scale remote controlled projection screens with Mitsubishi projectors, PTZ cameras for conferencing, and full multi-language interpretation facilities.

Working under an exceptionally demanding timeline, the team from MediaTech handled the entire project, from planning and preparation to system design and installation, as well as training on-site personnel in the operation of all systems.

“Banska Bystrica finally has a space that meets all the parameters of top quality acoustics and information technology,” enthused Professor MD. Svetozár Dluholucký, PhD., Dean of Slovak Medical University.

TNDV Upgrades Production Quality for University Graduation Ceremonies

Mobile production specialist captures, magnifies and streams Vanderbilt and University of Virginia commencements in HD

NASHVILLE, July 14, 2014 — Mobile production is most often associated with the world of sports and large entertainment events, but a growing contingent of non-broadcast organizations are looking to outside production teams to increase quality and expand audience reach.

TNDV recently brought its mobile production expertise to the campuses of Vanderbilt University in Nashville and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, achieving these goals and more for their spring graduation ceremonies. TNDV transitioned both commencement productions to HD for the first time, vastly improving image magnification quality for the large attending crowds. The company also streamed the live ceremonies worldwide to ensure families, friends and alumni could tune in from anywhere.

According to Nic Dugger, owner and president of TNDV, an increasing number of his clients across education, government and corporate verticals are recognizing the quick return on investment that comes with upgrading the production quality and taking the event to an external audience.

“Universities like Vanderbilt and University of Virginia realize that commencement is the most crucial day to a student’s life,” said Dugger. “Graduation day sets the mood and tone to the student’s relationship with that university forever, and potentially influences future donations and ongoing involvement. They want every student’s family to be able to experience the event with them, whether onsite or online, with the visual and audio quality required for total immersion. It takes a professional mobile production crew and technology infrastructure to make that happen, especially when you are serving two very different audiences.”

TNDV built a true mobile production facility for each event, staffed with producers, directors, and a complement of switcher, graphics and playback operators. The staff positioned multiple Hitachi HD5000 cameras around the venues, feeding back to its Inspiration truck. On board, the signals were sweetened with graphics and audio, and routed to large LED screens on either side of the stage. Throughout the productions, TNDV staff monitored multiviewer feeds both on board and outside the truck, the latter of which lent a professional production atmosphere for attendees.

The team also positioned an array of audience microphones throughout the crowd to capture the energy of the event for online audiences. This replicated the in-person experience for those who couldn’t make the ceremonies. Additionally, all camera feeds from the ceremonies, as well as special events surrounding the commencements, were recorded to Aja KiPro banks for future university use.

For Dugger, the tricky nature of producing graduation ceremonies is that unlike a live performance, the emphasis is not on a single artist or small group of performers. Everyone involved is on equal footing, from guest speakers to the entire student body.

“The challenge across both the image magnification and live stream is to make sure that every student gets the recognition they deserve,” he said. “Every student’s name needs to be seen and heard clearly. Taking the leap to HD production makes that experience far more immersive, and ultimately more memorable. And these productions were truly what you would see for a full-blown live broadcast.”
