St Joseph’s University Gets Dual Community Sound Systems

Philadelphia, PA, – When St Joseph’s University decided to transform their McGuire campus’ former chapel into a contemporary multi-use student center, they called upon Maryland-based RJC Designs to create an A/V and media solution that could address a multitude of challenges, from the acoustical and logistical to the aesthetic, while maintaining the room’s classic architectural lines.

Video is centered on a Panasonic WUXGA DLP projector sending HD video to a Draper retractable 108″ x 192″ screen. The rear wall and both wings are hung with additional 60″ LED monitors, each of which can be tied into the main display or used as separate presentation areas. Digital technologies were used within the development of the infrastructure to support the various displays and also reduce the size and cost of the pathways. All the LED monitors are tied into the campus signage and information network. HDMI, DVI, Component, and other analog and digital sources are available on the buffer wall and in the front presentation areas.

Audio is provided via dual integrated sound systems, each addressing a critical niche. A pair of Community ENTASYS high-performance column line arrays mounted to either side of the proscenium hones in on spoken word intelligibility, augmented by VLF208 subwoofers. High-level musical performance is covered by a pair of iBOX iHP3594 three-way cabinets, with low frequency muscle from a couple of i215LVS dual 15-inch subwoofers. Crown CTs amplification powers the system, with DSP covered by a Biamp AudiaFLEX CM.

RJC Designs President Rich Coluzzi remarked, “clear and intelligible sound along with dynamic program audio makes for an exciting audio experience for the Saint Joseph’s University students and other attendants.”

New FlexGlass™ Rear-Projection Screen Material by Screen Innovations Features Zero Hotspot, Wide Viewing Angles, and the Ability to be Rolled on a 2-foot Core to Reduce Freight Costs and Job Site Handling

SI now shipping  FlexGlass™ to integrators worldwide for use in Command, Control, Simulation, Digital Signage, Retail, Hospitality and other Commercial or Residential application

Austin, TX – February 18, 2013 Screen Innovations (SI), a leading US-based manufacturer of the acclaimed multi-directional ambient light rejecting Black Diamond projection screen technology, recently began shipping the much-anticipated FlexGlass™ flexible rear-projection screen material. Designed to resolve size, space, and shipping concerns, as well as to deliver an impressive and unrivaled image quality for Commercial applications, FlexGlass is poised to become a top-rated solution for rear-projection applications.

With an increased focus on – and presence in – the Commercial AV market, SI has launched itself yet again into an aggressive product development cycle to produce technologies and associated solutions for an ever-changing technical marketplace. FlexGlass is an innovative new rear projection screen material that offers all of the benefits of the best rigid optical panels with the added benefit of custom and curve capabilities that can only be achieved with a flexible screen material. Delivering unmatched edge-blend capability, zero hotspot, almost infinite viewing angles, and the ability to be rolled on a 2-foot core to significantly reduce freight and job site handling issues, FlexGlass is an ideal choice for multiple-projector, edge blending, and short throw projector applications; all of which serves to fulfill a very real need in the marketplace.

“FlexGlass™ is an absolutely amazing product,” said Richard Cope, CEO of NanoLumens. “Not only does it give us the uniformity, contrast, and viewing angles that we need, but its ability to be rolled on a 2-foot core allows us to get it into places where other screens simply cannot go.

“FlexGlass™ offers a very wide viewing angle and good contrast that’s excellent for rear-projected edge-blending because of its very high half-gain angle, low absolute gain and darker tint. It’s semi-rigid, which allows FlexGlass to be rolled in long seamless sheets onto 2-foot cores, doing away with the logistical problems often associated with getting rigid glass or Plexiglas sheets into buildings, upper stories, elevators and small doorways,” said Rajeev Surati, Chairman, President and Founder of Scalable Display Technologies. “Being semi-rigid also means FlexGlass can be used in curved configurations, as one of our customers has done for a large cylindrical cave configuration. Being lightweight, it’s truly portable, which is another plus. In fact, we use FlexGlass for a 20-foot by 6-foot display provided to our partners who use it to show off their large visualizations at tradeshows and other events.”

“The introduction of our new FlexGlass™ rear-projection screens and other Commercial product solutions serves to further establish SI as a force to be reckoned with in the Commercial market,” said Ryan Gustafson, President of Screen Innovations. “It’s my belief that our new Commercial lineup will surpass that of traditional standard-bearers. What you see now is only the beginning. By Infocomm 2013, SI will have many new and innovative products ideally suited for Commercial applications. Come see us at Infocomm and you’ll see what we’re all about. The possibilities are endless.”

An assortment of proprietary screen materials and a highly innovative design and engineering team ensures SI has – and continues to develop – unique solutions that deliver tangible results at a competitive price. Marietta GA, February 13, 2013 – A very small, simple to use, new digital mini voice recorder is now available from ExackTM LLC that can be played back anywhere. Unlike most small voice recorders, MemClickTM does not need to be plugged into a computer USB port and will still give high quality sound, at controllable levels. It measures only 2½ inches high, 1¼ inches wide and a ½ inch thick and weighs less than 1 oz. And at $29.95, it is very affordable. Using MemClick is also easy. With one finger, it can make a voice recording or playback, up to 8 minutes. Memos can instantly be located in three folders (red, yellow and green) for prioritizing, with lighted buttons and played back. The uses for MemClick are endless.

About Exack:

Exack is a Christian operated company based out of Marietta, GA. Focusing primarily on electronics, Exack was founded by an engineer who loves to think outside of the box and to find ways to solve problems to help others. The founder is a man who loves Jesus, is an avid photographer, and has an unusual fondness for garlic. Just your typical guy next door . . . who loves to invent things.

MemClick all began with the idea for an easy and quick way to remember all of those little things in life that get lost in the busyness of life. After searching the stores and trying multiple devices out there, he discovered that there wasn’t anything that really helped. So, an experienced engineer and inventor with several patents under his belt began to try to create that very thing right out of his basement. With the input of many other really smart people, MemClick was born and suddenly remembering things became a whole lot easier.

Draper Introduces Video Conferencing Accessories

For effective video conferencing in today’s multi-use conference rooms and other venues, you need the required technology precisely where you need it, when you need it—but out of sight when you don’t. Draper has introduced several new products designed to do just that.

Draper’s Video Conferencing Camera Lift-Ceiling allows the placement of a video conferencing camera directly behind a motorized projection screen; the camera raises and lowers with the screen.

The Video Conferencing Camera Lift–Credenza hides your camera in virtually any conference room furnishing, ready to be raised at any time by simple remote operation.

Draper’s Video Conferencing Camera Adapter Bracket allows a video conferencing camera to be mounted in a Draper ceiling recessed projector lift. The bracket is available with three Draper lift models; choose the lift based on how far down out of the ceiling the camera needs to travel.

Draper also offers three unique types of backgrounds to bring your video conferencing to life, help you communicate more effectively and set your content apart. Draper’s neutral backgrounds come in six muted earth tones, and eliminate distractions, help prevent unwanted interference, control room lighting and ensure a consistent corporate image. Custom printed backgrounds can contain custom artwork, photographs, corporate logos and more. Chroma Key Backgrounds, typically referred to as “blue screen” or “green screen” technology, make it easy to change background images or show live action video footage.

Anaheim, California (February 4, 2013) – Extron Electronics is pleased to announce an upgrade to the popular SME 100 encoder, enabling the support of additional network and streaming protocols. The SME 100 now supports push streaming in unicast or multicast applications applying native RTP or MPEG-2 Transport Streams. Session Announcement Protocol and Session Description Protocol are applied to manage push streaming sessions. Other new capabilities include HTTP tunneling and closed captioning support for the EIA-608B standard. These new features are included in all SME 100 units that are shipping, and this firmware upgrade is available as a free download for current users.

“Streaming encoders are used in many different applications and network configurations. This latest firmware update supports integration into a broader variety of streaming applications, and provides compatibility with a greater variety of H.264 devices including set-top box decoders,” says Casey Hall, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Extron. “We have expanded our support of encoding, network protocols, and control features in the SME 100 to give AV professionals a broader set of tools for AV streaming applications.”

Little Theatre, Big Sound: Ridgewood H.S. Upgrades Performance Venue

BUENA PARK, Calif.—Ridgewood High School in Ridgewood, New Jersey is a unique institution in that it has a long reputation of fine service to students providing many opportunities to further their performing arts interests. Founded in 1892, the school recently upgraded the audio system in its 250-seat intimate Little Theatre. Boulevard Professional (Ridgefield Park, NJ) was hired to design and install the new system that includes two NEXO GEO S1210 line arrays, one GEO S1230 for downfill, a NEXO 4×1 NXAMP, and a Yamaha LS9-32 digital audio console.

“Boulevard was contacted by Tim Whiting, a local resident and volunteer consultant to the New Players Company (NPC) Association, to review a system upgrade specification,” states James Cioffi, co-owner, Boulevard Pro. “After our first meeting, we were given the go ahead to design a solution for their space. Our goal was to provide a turnkey system upgrade that could cover the varied events held in the theatre.”

The new system was funded primarily through the tireless efforts of the NPC Association, the non-profit support arm of the New Players Company. NPC is dedicated to offering students the highest caliber of all aspects of theatre education, providing a wide range of experiences to students during their high school years. In continuous production for eleven months out of the year, New Players exposes students to plays and musicals of all genres and styles with a repertoire comprised of contemporary and classical that include challenging, complex works by artists ranging from Shakespeare to Sondheim.

Boulevard project manager, Bob Potanka, provided the NEXO system’s custom hanging solution and cable runs, interfacing with existing audio hardware. The company added eight 8-channel Shure SLX124/58 combo wireless mic systems for a total of sixteen Shure wireless units, and recycled the original line array as stage monitors flown left/right above the stage. “We used NEXO NS-1 software to model the sound system with assistance from Joe Rimstidt at Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems. The system was installed as predicted through the NS-1 software and sounds fantastic,” says Cioffi. In addition to the NEXO system and Yamaha LS9-32, a Middle Atlantic DWR 12-17 hanging wall rack was also installed.

At the completion of the installation, Boulevard conducted system training for staff and students. “The New Players Company at Ridgewood High School has already been enjoying sold-out shows, and response to the new sound system has been overwhelmingly positive,” notes Cioffi.

“Upgrading the sound system was one of a number of major improvements funded through the generous community support of our Capital Campaign,” added Meg Schaefer, Artistic Director of The New Players Company Association. “Both Boulevard and Yamaha did a phenomenal job to dramatically improve our venue.”
