New Broadcast Pix Software Upgrades Include Next Generation Chromakey, Dual-Channel Clip Server

Billerica, Massachusetts – Broadcast Pix™ will debut ClearKey, its next generation chromakey, as well as a dual-channel clip server and several other upgrades in its Version 4.0 software for Granite™ and Mica™ integrated production switchers. Available in May, the new software features will be demonstrated at the 2014 NAB Show (Booth SL6325), which runs April 7-10 in Las Vegas, Nev. The company also announced Version 3.0 software for its Flint™ end-to-end integrated production switchers, with most of the same upgrades.

Part of Broadcast Pix’s Fluent™ workflow software, ClearKey features precise, highly adjustable keying that can handle challenging visuals, such as glass or fast-moving or out of focus objects. Robust color correction removes the most stubborn spill from chromakeyed objects, which is important for virtual set use where color contamination is almost unavoidable. A key crop function can be used to confine the keying effect to certain areas of the screen.

ClearKey also creates more realistic shadow and lighting effects. Shine a spotlight on the background, for example, and it will shine on the virtual set as well. If a subject casts a shadow on the green or blue background, ClearKey can make the shadow appear on the virtual set, if desired. A simple eye dropper tool simplifies chromakey color selection, and intuitive controls make it easy to adjust lighting, shadow and spill correction effects.

The V4 upgrade includes a dual-channel clip server for Granite and Mica, which handles playback of SD and HD footage in a variety of file formats. (Flint already includes a dual-channel clip server.) Both upgrades add new device controls for Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Studio and Studio Pro video recorders, as well as all AJA Ki Pro recorders, over a TCP/IP connection. Clips can be recorded and played back from the PixPad, and all controls can programmed into a macro for simplified control. The new upgrades also include device control for Lumens VC-G50 and VC-G30 HD PTZ cameras. Plus, Fluent-View, Broadcast Pix’s customizable multi-view, includes a new snap-to-grid feature to make it easier to build new screen layouts.

“When Broadcast Pix has a major software release, you know we’ve listened to our customers and added some pretty significant improvements,” said Steve Ellis, general manager, Broadcast Pix. “ClearKey in particular represents a major step forward that will improve productions for customers who rely on virtual sets. It is highly adjustable but easy to operate – and it delivers outstanding results.”

Flint V3 and Granite/Mica V4 are free upgrades for all respective systems under warranty and will be available in May.

Cress also noted that Christie’s offerings span the needs of independent exhibitors, which encompass art houses, drive-ins, film festivals and post-production studios, as well as global cinema chains, to leverage cinema and alternative content across all sizes of cinema auditoriums, in 2K, 4K and in 3D, on standard and large-format, “premium screens”.

In addition to comprehensive solutions on display in Christie booth #2103A, the Christie CP2215, a compact digital cinema projector suited for theaters with screens up to 50 feet (15 meters), and the latest high-value addition to the Christie® Solaria™ Series of digital cinema projectors, will be in use in the Dolby Labs Milano 1 meeting room at the show, featuring the Christie Vive Audio solution powered by Dolby® Atmos™ sound technology. CinemaCon attendees can request a demo of the solution at the Christie booth.

NAB 2014: FOR-A to Show New Version of FT-ONE 4K Variable Frame Rate Camera, Debut 4K Extraction System

Cypress, CA – At the upcoming NAB Show in Las Vegas, FOR-A will showcase a new version of its FT-ONE 4K super slow motion camera. The new version of the FT-ONE offers fiber I/O connections built directly into the unit for ease of use when shooting from the field. The company’s new ZE-ONE 4K extraction system will also be a highlight of the company’s booth (C5117), making its first NAB appearance.

“FOR-A is excited to showcase this new version of the FT-ONE camera and debut our ZE-ONE 4K extraction system at NAB,” said Hiro Tanoue, President, FOR-ACorporation of America. “We’re now offering the FT-ONE with fiber connections built into the unit, making it easier when the production calls for the camera to be used a far distance away from the base station. We’ll have a new replay controller for the ZE-ONE extraction system, which allows operators to frame and extract specified HD scenes at any size from 4K sources.”

Since its first introduction into the market in 2012, the FT-ONE has been used in a variety of sports broadcast and digital cinematography applications, including professional football, boxing, automobile racing, ice cross downhill, and wakeboarding events, as well as a NASA rocket launch. The camera has been the recipient of multiple industry awards, including a 2012 IBC Show STAR Award from TV Technology Europe, TVB Europe’s Best of IBC 2012 Award, and most recently, a 2013 Government Video Salute at GV Expo.

The FT-ONE employs FOR-A’s high-sensitivity CMOS color sensor, “FT1-CMOS,” and plays back full 4K (4096 x 2160 pixels). One output channel can provide QFHD (four 1080p 3G-SDI) outputs, while the other output channel provides down-converted HD-SDI for live viewing and play back. The FT-ONE captures images as uncompressed raw data on the system’s internal memory, which has a recording capacity of 9.4 seconds. This data is then stored on one of two hot-swappable SSD cartridges, each of which is capable of storing 84 seconds of full 4K resolution images at 900 fps.

First introduced at last year’s IBC Show, where it won a Best of IBC award from TVB Europe, the ZE-ONE allows FT-ONE users to frame and extract desired 4K image areas to capture the action for HD replays. The 4K extraction system provides operators with an intuitive touch-screen interface to frame and extract specified HD scenes at any size from 4K sources. The ZE-ONE allows users to smoothly zoom in or out, and includes an embedded audio delay processor.

U.S. Bank Arena Upgrades Hockey Coverage to HD with Broadcast Pix Granite X Integrated Production System

Billerica, Massachusetts – When Jim Plummer, technical director for the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, was shopping for a new production switcher at the 2013 NAB Show, he kept coming back to Broadcast Pixintegrated production switchers. His choice became even easier when he won a Flint™ system during the show, which the arena upgraded to a Granite™ X.

Home to the ECHL Cincinnati Cyclones, U.S. Bank Arena was built in 1975 had a major renovation in 1997, which included the installation of a Sony analog switcher with external DVE. As part of a 2013 upgrade to HD production, which also included new cameras and monitors, the new Granite was installed early last fall in time for the current hockey season.

According to Plummer, the downtown arena seats about 17,000 spectators and hosts more than 100 events per year, including concerts, NBA preseason games, and 36 Cyclones home games. The in-house, three-camera video production is primarily used for hockey coverage, as well as some preseason basketball games and some comedy concerts. A four-screen, center hung video board provides the most prominent view for fans during the game, but there are multiple small monitors throughout the concourse, suites, and on-site restaurant.

During each home hockey game, the director switches while a second operator coordinates graphics and roll-ins. “It works out very well for us,” Plummer explained. “With hockey, you don’t know when you’re getting a stop, so you have to set your cues and be ready to go.”

The control room team also houses light and audio operators, plus one person coordinating game operations and promotions.

U.S. Bank Arena uses several of the Granite’s 12 SDI outputs during productions. One delivers a feed of the high center camera to the coach’s office, where it is recorded for review. Another feed is recorded to DVD for league officials and the visiting team. Plus, the live game production is provided to America ONE Sports, an online provider of live and on-demand sports. “Those multiple outputs really help us out a lot,” Plummer said.

Most of the Granite’s built-in Fluent™ workflow tools have already been incorporated into productions. Granite’s clip, animation, and still stores have made it easy for Plummer and his team to incorporate graphics and sound effects for “Star Wars Night” and other themed events during the season. Plus, Fluent-View, the customizable multi-view, quickly became a favorite feature among the directors, who have created different layouts for hockey, basketball, and concerts.

The optional Fluent Rapid CG feeds score and game clock data directly from the Daktronics scoreboard into graphics produced with the integrated Harris Inscriber CG. Fluent Rapid CG also manages data from an XML feed, so lower-third graphics can include real-time player statistics. “It makes things so much easier,” Plummer added.

Fluent Macros, Granite’s file-based macros system, is being used to create complex transitions and effects. Some transitions, for example, now feature the Cyclones logo, an effect that could not be produced using the previous equipment. Plummer is also planning to incorporate cloud-based content such as Twitter feeds and Instagram pictures into live productions. “It’s something we couldn’t do before,” he said.

With more than half the hockey season complete, people are noticing the improved production values, and Plummer is very pleased with the new Broadcast Pix system. “We love it,” he said. “It does everything we want it to do. The more games we do, the more comfortable we’re getting and incorporating more into the production.”

Broadcast Pix will have two raffles during the 2014 NAB Show (Booth SL6325), which runs April 7-10 in Las Vegas, Nev. Attendees will have the opportunity to win a new fX3D real-time 3D graphics software package on April 8 and a Flint integrated production switcher on April 9. Raffle instructions will be available at the Broadcast Pix booth.

IC Realtime Puts the Pedal-to-the-Metal with Ferrari Racecar at 2014 ISC West Show

In a move that solidifies its position as a global innovator of advanced video surveillance technology, IC Realtime has developed 720-degree video camera technology. The test platform is with 2013 Grand-AM Rolex GT championship-winning team Scuderia Corsa Racing With Ferrari where camera is mounted atop 458 Italia racecar to stream HD video from racetrack to Ferrari guest’s devices.

Both racecar & cameras will be on prominently displayed at IC Realtime’s ISC West tradeshow exhibit booth #23005. Don’t miss it!

Pompano Beach, FL – March 19, 2014 – IC Realtime, a global innovator of advanced video surveillance technology, has developed a remote-viewing platform that captures 720-degrees with no blind spots or moving parts.

“Pulling from experience in having brought to market our single-lens Immersive-360 camera line, our R&D division has pioneered a remote-viewing platform comprised of proprietary software — leveraging gyroscopic movement technology — and a dual-lens 720-degree camera system. By incorporating many software sensors and synchronizing both front and rear spheres (camera lenses) together, we’re able to capture 360-degree x 360-degree video to create a 3D-like experience that puts the viewer completely in the center of the action,” says Ivan Onuchin, Executive Vice President of R&D for IC Realtime. “This will create a realm of endless possibilities for what can be achieved in video surveillance. It is nothing short of remarkable.”

Many different megapixel versions of the IC720 dual-lens camera will be available beginning this year

The 720-degree technology will make its way to market later this year in a brand-new series of two-lens mega-pixel cameras from IC Realtime called IC720. Different versions of the camera with interchangeable sensors and lenses to achieve a wide variety of video surveillance needs (including a 28-megapixel version) are currently in the works. According to Onuchin, the technology incorporates 15 unique aspects that the company has applied/received patent protection on.

IC720 and Scuderia Corsa Racing With Ferrari
“We originally spec’d the technology for automobile racing as it’s one of the most extreme testing grounds we can get our hands on,” says IC Realtime CEO Matt Sailor. “Its first application is in Scuderia Corsa’s Ferrari 458 Italia No. 63 – a car that is currently competing on the US circuit, and won the championship last year.”

Founded in 2011 by Giacomo Mattioli and Art Zafiropoulo, Scuderia Corsa Racing With Ferrari is the 2013 Grand-AM Rolex GT championship-winning team that supports the racing needs of Ferrari clients through turnkey programs, GT endurance racing, the North American Ferrari Challenge Series and track events. IC720 worked closely with the team to incorporate the camera into the racecar.

Streaming live high-definition video to mobile devices — and uncompromised at speeds in excess of 100 MPH — the camera is used during practice laps and is planned to eventually be used during racing as well.

“Soon the very same technology that we are testing with Scuderia Corsa Racing With Ferrari will be available for all types of elite surveillance applications,” adds Sailor. “This will be an industry game-changer.”

Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 Italia No. 63 on Display at IC Realtime’s ISC West Exhibit
IC Realtime will display the racecar at its ISC West exhibit (booth #23005). There attendees will get a chance to witness video streams of attendees walking around the car, captured from the roof-mounted 720-degree camera. IC Realtime will also have race footage on-hand for attendees to experience the video captured by the camera at high speeds.
