SVS LAUNCHES PC-2000 POWERED CYLINDER SUBWOOFER

The cylinder subwoofer form factor is reinvented by SVS with acclaimed 2000 Series subwoofer technology and décor-friendly styling.

Denver, CO – Rocky Mountain Audio Fest – October 10-12, 2014 – SVS, a worldwide leader in high performance home audio products, proudly announces the PC-2000 subwoofer, a modernization of the original SVS cylinder design featuring driver and amplifier technology from the vaunted 2000 Series subwoofers, and fresh, décor-friendly styling. With a footprint measuring just 16.5” in diameter, the PC-2000 delivers unmatched bass performance per square-inch of floor space.

“The cylinder subwoofer is an icon of our design heritage. The PC-2000 integrates our best technology and engineering resources, along with style upgrades, to make it appealing to contemporary audio and home theater enthusiasts,” said Gary Yacoubian, SVS president. “It’s an absolute beast of a performer and ideal for those who want outstanding deep bass effects and mid-bass slam, without the huge footprint.”

Standing 34” tall, the PC-2000 is a striking monolith of power that uses vertical height to achieve a generous enclosure volume, despite the small footprint. Interchangeable black ash or piano gloss top caps give the subwoofer design flexibility to match a range of décors. It is also the first SVS subwoofer to come standard with the SoundPath Isolation System. The elastomer feet decouple and isolate the PC-2000 from the floor, resulting in tighter and cleaner sounding bass, less room rattle, and fewer complaints from neighbors and roommates.

Inside, the PC-2000 boasts a 12” down-firing 2000-series driver. Nearly 20 driver prototypes were built by hand and punished with rigorous real-world testing; including 100-hours straight of full power testing; before the final version was approved for production. The drivers consist of dual high-grade ferrite magnets and an FEA-optimized motor for nearly distortion-free performance. A reinforced Nomex spider was integrated for improved linearity and driver control, especially important when the STA-500D amp is pushing the PC-2000 to maximum output levels.

Conservatively rated at 500 watts RMS continuous and 1100 watts peak dynamic, the Sledge STA-500D DSP amplifier inside the PC-2000 has brains to match its brawn. A sophisticated DSP in the amplifier includes an array of filters and volume, gain, and phase controls for fine-tuning performance. A frequency-dependent limiter/compressor algorithm with adjustable attack/release and compression parameters offers the ultimate in refined behavior at the drive limits of the subwoofer system. The DSP amplifier is effortless in its delivery of all this power, yet it consumes less than half-a-watt in stand-by mode.

Rated at 17-270 HZ +/- 3dB, the PC-2000 features a stereo line-level RCA input and 80Hz high pass filtered output connections, continuously variable volume and phase controls, and a rear-firing 4” high-flow port with large radius inner and outer flanges.

Pricing for the PC-2000 is $799.99 for the Black Ash top cap, and $849.99 for the Piano Gloss top cap.

SVS LAUNCHES PRIME SERIES SPEAKER FAMILY

The new line consists of tower, center channel, bookshelf and satellite speakers that redefine high performance audio at the price point.

Denver, CO – Rocky Mountain Audio Fest – October 9-11, 2014 SVS, a worldwide leader in high performance home audio products, proudly announces the Prime Series, a versatile line of high performance speakers designed to give listeners a world class audio experience at a price that defies convention. Spawned from the acclaimed SVS Ultra Speakers, the Prime Series features décor-friendly styling and trickle-down technology that cements SVS as a mainstream high performance audio leader.

Consisting of a Tower, Bookshelf, Center and Satellite model, the Prime Series is the American audio brand’s second full-range speaker family offering. SVS applied knowledge gained from developing the award-winning Ultra Series, and also applied exhaustive new engineering and form factor changes to achieve flagship performance at mainstream prices. This design philosophy is illuminated in the premium finish, features, and specifications. The ultimate goal of the Prime Series is to make high-end audio inclusive and open experiences up to a broader audience than was previously possible.

Gary Yacoubian, SVS president, said, “The mission of SVS is to bring the joys of high end audio to an ever-broader audience, and we are really proud of the Prime Series because they do exactly that.”

The Prime Tower speaker benefits from lessons learned developing the Ultra Tower, with its own distinctive touches. It has a completely new 3.5-way crossover that ensures a full, flat and seamless frequency response from the tweeter to the midrange driver, and through the two individually tuned and isolated 6.5-inch woofers. The design creates deep bass extension and a cohesive sonic presentation, with no compromises for either home theater or home stereo applications.

Designed for two-channel purists and home theater fans alike, the Prime Bookshelf speaker serves equally well as a standalone reference monitor, surround sound speaker, or front channel speaker, depending on the end user’s preference and the room’s layout. The 6.25” woofer delivers deep and articulate bass and outstanding extension, courtesy of a stiffened polypropylene cone, a refined motor with aluminum shorting ring for reduced distortion, and a vented voice coil former. The 1” aluminum dome tweeter utilizes an FEA-optimized diffuser to deliver open ‘airy’ presentation and unveiled highs.

It’s rare, if not impossible to find a true three-way center channel speaker at the Prime Series price point. Two-way center channel speakers are prone to off-axis frequency anomalies and simply can’t match the performance of other speakers in the line-up. To create an uncompromised, yet affordable center channel, SVS engineered a true three-way, four-driver design featuring a 1” aluminum dome tweeter, dedicated 3.5” midrange driver and dual 5.25” woofers. SVS’s exclusive SoundMatch three- way crossover ensures a smooth transition between all drivers for effortless projection into the room, both on- and off-axis. To avoid midrange modulation from all that woofer power, SVS mounted the midrange driver in its own dedicated and completely sealed compartment, which ensures natural and immersive dialogue clarity and vocal timbre, even during bass-heavy tracks and scenes.

The sleeper of the series may be the Prime Satellite, SVS’s first satellite speaker. The Prime Satellite pushes performance to unprecedented levels in this form factor, with design and component quality rivaling speakers two and three times their price. The Satellite speaker stands on its own, or matches perfectly with SVS subwoofers in 2.1, 5.1 and 7.1 systems, or it can serve as the front, center, and surround speakers in a very capable, very affordable multi-channel home theater system featuring other members of the Prime family. The compact size and included wall bracket also make the Satellite ideal in locations where space is limited, but high performance is desired.

Yacoubian continued, “Our design team deserves kudos for engineering the Prime Series to deliver an incredibly high level of audio performance at their disciplined price, a much more difficult prospect than when cost is no object. They are a product of both a passion for great experiences and the expertise to make them happen affordably.”

The Prime Series feature lifestyle-friendly cabinet design, available in black ash or piano gloss. Precision machined front-baffle chamfers on the Prime family were carefully engineered to reduce tweeter diffraction artifacts, as well as to tie the Prime Series to the SVS Ultra Series lineup sonically and aesthetically. Every speaker in the range has been painstakingly voiced and sonically matched with each other and the Ultra Series allowing end-users to mix and match all models, creating endless home theater possibilities.

SVS Prime Series speakers are available in a variety of two-channel and home theater packages, but can also be configured in any multi-channel array for use with Dolby Atmos or other surround sound formats. Information and pricing for the various speakers and packages is available at www.svsound.com.

Prism Sound Announces A Drum Masterclass In Germany

Gavin Harrison

Internationally acclaimed drummer Gavin Harrison is collaborating with Prism Sound to deliver a unique Drum Masterclass, which will take place at KMR Audio in Berlin on Saturday November 1, 2014.

Harrison has worked with a wide range of artists including Iggy Pop, Porcupine Tree, Sam Brown and King Crimson. His Masterclass in Germany will focus on techniques for recording drums in a studio and will give those attending the opportunity to record a track on his Sonor drum kit.

Harrison recently gave a similar Masterclass at Ananda Studios in the UK, which was hugely successful. Prism Sound supported that event by providing audio interface equipment.

Bernard Nocker, Prism Sound’s sales representative in Germany, says: “We were so inspired by it that we decided to host another event in Germany where there is enormous demand for this kind of hands-on workshop. Gavin is an inspiring teacher and during the Masterclass he will focus on the demands of being a session player and how to deliver a great performance, even when under pressure. He will also give each attendee individual feedback so that they can raise their game to another level.”

To ensure the highest possible audio quality throughout the recording chain, Prism Sound will once again deploy a number of its Atlas USB audio interfaces to track the microphones from the drum kit into Logic. Aimed squarely at multitrack recording applications, Atlas benefits from Prism Sound’s 27 year history in digital audio processing and interface design. It incorporates the company’s latest award-winning CleverClox dual hybrid clocking technology and offers recording professionals ultimate quality analogue and digital I/O for Mac or Windows PC at sample rates up to 192kHz. In addition to the USB host interface, Atlas also features Prism Sound’s new MDIO interface expansion slot. With eight acclaimed Prism Sound microphone preamplifiers as standard, Atlas is ideally suited to the needs of drummers.

Gavin Harrison’s Prism Sound Drum Masterclass runs for three hours and is not suitable for beginners. Capacity is limited to a maximum of 12 participants and the cost of the session is €150 per person. Anyone wanting to attend should visit:

These awards were developed to recognize the technical excellence and creative innovation that continually drive the post production industry in the advancement and support of content creation. The coveted honors will be bestowed on November 6th, 2014 during the ninth annual HPA Awards gala at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, CA.

The Engineering Excellence Award spotlights companies and individuals who draw upon technical and creative ingenuity and apply it to real world post production demands while raising the profile of breakthrough technologies.

The winners of the 2014 HPA Engineering Excellence Awards are:

“The Hollywood Post Alliance’s recognition of NVIDIA VCA is validation of how our GPU rendering appliance is changing the way filmmakers, artists and animators work. NVIDIA VCA removes the need to wait hours for rendered movies and allows artists to interact and edit their photo-real digital models in real time, dramatically accelerating the review and approval process,” said Jeff Brown, vice president and general manager of Professional Visualization and Design at NVIDIA.

Wohler/Cinnafilm Joint Venture: Tachyon Wormhole
Tachyon Wormhole is a file-based Retiming and Standards Transcoding solution which leverages commodity enterprise hardware to deliver content based on time or standards requirements. Fully automated with audio pitch correction and caption retiming, Tachyon Wormhole processes two files faster than real time, simultaneously, on a single small footprint server.

Ernie Sanchez, COO, Cinnafilm, Inc. commented, “Because it is peer-based, few awards invoke the same sense of pride as the HPA Engineering Excellence award. We are truly honored to be recognized a second time by the HPA for our achievements, and we are thrilled that we earned it through intelligent partnering with the team at Wohler.”

The HPA Judges Award for Creativity and Innovation in Post Production was conceived to recognize companies and individuals who have demonstrated excellence, whether in the development of workflow and process to support creative storytelling and/or technical innovation. A jury of peers and industry experts determines the HPA Judges Award winners.

The 2014 winners of the HPA Judges Award for Creativity and Innovation in Post Production are:

American Society of Cinematographers: Color Decision List (ASC CDL)
The ASC CDL helps maintain and communicate creative intent, from production, dailies, post, VFX, editorial, in a multi-facility, multi-vendor environment. The ASC CDL enables creatives to set the look of a shot via system-independent primary color corrections communicated as metadata from on-set through dailies and post. Developed by the ASC Technology Committee – a broad group of industry members working to benefit the industry – the ASC CDL is freely available, saving time and money, improving the artistic result and audience experience in the vast majority of motion pictures, TV shows, and VFX.

David Reisner, D-Cinema Consulting commented, “We are honored to be recognized by our colleagues at the HPA. The ASC CDL was developed to help all participants in the production and post pipeline most effectively produce the best result and deliver the creative vision of filmmakers to audiences. The ASC CDL could only have been created by filmmakers, the post community, and vendors’ active collaboration.”

DigitalFilm Tree: Cloud Post Workflow Initiative (ProStack)
ProStack enables instantly accessible, widely deployable post production. ProStack packs the capacity and bandwidth needed to manage the entire post process- high-end color correction, VFX and DI workflows- into a scalable solution. Flexible design and implementation incorporates the best tools for every job, connecting all users via cloud storage. ProStack, in conjunction with Critique, integrates the entire spectrum of file-based workflows into one hub, while simultaneously embracing the evolving role of production and the post facility.

Guillaume Aubuchon, DigitalFilm Tree CTO commented, “We have been focused on developing a system that is truly cloud based and easily useable for our clients, an OpenStack environment with secure and instantaneous access. It is an honor to be recognized by the HPA for our work on ProStack, and we are honored to receive our second C&I Award.”

Leon Silverman, President of the HPA commented, “The HPA Awards have become an important acknowledgement and celebration of creativity in content, technology and workflow innovation. This year’s awards for Engineering Excellence and Creativity and Innovation in Post Production represent significant and foundational new approaches. The HPA is proud to be able to recognize these outstanding achievements.”
