Extron Fiber Optic RS-232 Inserter Now Shipping

Extron FOX RS 104Extron Electronics is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the new FOX RS 104, a four port RS-232 inserter for long-haul transmission of control signals to remote source and destination equipment over fiber optic cabling. Each port provides a bidirectional fiber optic connection to an Extron FOX Series transmitter or receiver for the insertion and extraction of control data, while maintaining a continuous pass-through link for video and audio. The FOX RS 104 is ideal for use in applications with a centralized control system that require the long-haul transmission of AV and control signals over fiber optic cabling.

“The FOX RS 104 provides system designers and integrators with a simple way to provide control to remote locations,” says Casey Hall, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Extron. “By embedding control data into the fiber optic AV signal, the inserter eliminates the need for separate control system wiring.”

RS-232 data from the Ethernet port is inserted onto one or more of the fiber optic outputs, providing remote monitoring and control. Reclocking on the unit’s buffered fiber optic outputs ensures signal integrity and transmits the fiber optic signal at its original power level. The FOX RS 104 maintains the performance of the optical signal transmission while providing bidirectional control from a control processor, eliminating the need for separate control system wiring to remote devices. Available in multimode and singlemode models, it is compatible with the extensive line of FOX Series extenders, distribution amplifiers, switchers, and matrix switchers.

Extron Now Shipping Economical DVI Twisted Pair Extenders

Extron DTP DVI 230 SeriesExtron Electronics is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the DTP DVI 230 and DTP DVI 230 D desktop and Decora®-style twisted pair extenders. These extenders transmit DVI-D video, audio, and bidirectional RS-232 and IR control signals up to 230 feet (70 meters) over a single CATx cable. The DTP DVI 230 and DTP DVI 230 D provide an economical and effective means for extending single link DVI-D or HDMI signals. The transmitters are each equipped with a buffered DVI loop-through output to support a local computer monitor. Both models feature remote power capability of either the transmitter or receiver, and can be mixed and matched for installation flexibility.

“The addition of the DTP DVI 230 and DTP DVI 230 D to our growing DTP twisted pair extender line provides our customers with valuable tools for digital AV signal distribution,” says Casey Hall, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Extron. “The DTP DVI 230 provides a low profile enclosure for discreet placement behind displays or beneath tables, while the DTP DVI 230 D increases system flexibility with convenient in-wall mounting that enables AV system designers and integrators to add inputs and outputs exactly where they are needed.”

The extenders support signal resolutions up to 1920×1200 and 1080p/60, and are fully compatible with HDMI signals when used with the appropriate DVI-HDMI adapters from Extron. The DTP DVI 230 and DTP DVI 230 D can transmit HDMI signals, supporting Deep Color up to 12-bit, CEC, and embedded HD lossless audio formats. They also allow a direct connection from devices with an analog stereo audio output, such as desktop computers or laptops, and provide balanced and unbalanced audio output from the receiver.

In addition, the extenders continuously maintain DDC communication of EDID and HDCP between a source and display for reliable operation, ensuring direct compatibility and optimal signal transmission between devices. The DTP DVI 230 and DTP DVI 230 D are compatible with CAT 5e, CAT 6, and CAT 7 twisted pair cable, and can be used as a point-to-point solution or integrated with a switching and distribution system to extend inputs or outputs to remote locations. Extron XTP DTP 24 shielded twisted pair cable is available for optimal performance, providing added protection from outside interference.

PESA Earns DoD certification for its Video Distribution Systems (VDS)

Huntsville, Alabama – PESA, a leading U.S.-based design and manufacturer of professional audio and video signal distribution, recently announced that its Video Distribution System (VDS) and several products in its Cheetah large-scale router and PESA PRO signal processing lines have been certified by the US Department of Defense. This reflects PESA’s commitment to providing mission-critical products for high definition video and audio distribution.

PESA is the first and only company to achieve listing on the Department of Defense Unified Capabilities (UC) Approved Products List (APL) as a Video Distribution System (VDS). The APL is managed by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

These products underwent rigorous testing by DISA’s Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) and received Interoperability Certification (IOC) and Information Assurance (IA) accreditation from JITC – the organizational element responsible for certifying joint and combined interoperability of all Department of Defense (DoD) information technology and national security systems.

“Mission critical situations demand high-quality distribution and switching of HD video,” said Colonel (Retired) John T. Wright, senior vice president of Sales and Business Development for PESA. “Our senior military and civilian leadership rely on extremely detailed imagery for C4ISR and to execute mission command. This certification ensures that all DoD commands and activities can take advantage of the quality and interoperability between disparate video chains that PESA’s VDS systems provide.”

JITC evaluates technologies that provide warfighters with high-tech advantages in both peacetime and war. The command uses an extensive array of software and hardware based testing procedures when evaluating products that can serve an important role in the military’s technological arsenal – whether directly on the battlefield or in a critical supporting role. JITC certification also ensures that a technological device or system meets the full standards to operate in a Unified Capabilities environment. The APL is the DoD’s single authoritative source for certified products intended for use on DoD networks.

“PESA has provided video distribution solutions to its government customers for nearly four decades, with special considerations for agencies that require high-performance assurance and interoperability in command and control environments,” stated Chuck Tillett, President and COO. “PESA’s products are currently used by many military and government agencies. JITC Certification enables us to extend our reach to other departments and agencies looking to expand their role in mission critical environments.”

PESA offers a complete portfolio of secure, high-definition video switching and distribution solutions with the ability to deliver up to full 1080p communications. With an array of robust features necessary to support continuity of operations, command and control and emergency preparedness and response, the Cheetah product line has proven to be a solid foundation for many government and federal agencies, such as the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and NASA.
