Tightrope Media Systems Scales for Enterprise-Level Digital Signage with Carousel 6.5

New release accelerates rendering times, improves remote diagnostics for out-of-home networks

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, January 15, 2015
Tightrope Media Systems is enhancing its Carousel digital signage system at Digital Signage Expo (March 10-12, Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth 2631) with new tools to accelerate content rendering speed across out-of-home networks of any size. The updates, now available in the recent Carousel 6.5 release, improve core processing and memory utilization for increased rendering times—to the tune of 60 times faster.

subhome-signage-large

The Carousel 6.5 enhancements empower network operators to seamlessly scale networks to an infinite number of screens and locations, without adversely affecting network performance. The faster rendering performance specifically benefits the creation and distribution of weather bulletins, RSS feeds, and other time-sensitive content that requires real-time display. To achieve this, Carousel 6.5 amplifies its server performance to more effectively scale across multiple cores. Tightrope’s Carousel enterprise servers are easily scaled by adding further processing cores as the number of player end points escalates.

At Digital Signage Expo, Tightrope will also introduce Carousel Detective, a network diagnostics tool incorporated within the Carousel server core. The software-defined architecture allows network operators and Tightrope service engineers to access Carousel Detective over IP from any connected device for troubleshooting and general performance monitoring, further enhancing the enterprise-level performance of Carousel 6.5.

“Tightrope continues to invest in improving the user experience,” said Eric Henry, signage solutions leader, Tightrope Media Systems. “With enterprise-level bulletin rendering across large-scale network now taking a matter of seconds, our customers are assured timely distribution of dynamic and time-sensitive content across networks of any size. These improvements, along with extensive diagnostic toolset of Carousel Detective, set the stage for significant strides in next-generation Carousel systems on the horizon—notably a far richer, intuitive and user-friendly GUI on tap for the next major software release later this year.”

Tightrope Media Systems Bolsters Sales and Service Team with New Appointments

Company strengthens customer-first approach across broadcast, cable and digital signage

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, January 7, 2014
Tightrope Media Systems’ unique identity as a leading solutions provider across the broadcast/cable and digital signage industries has propelled year-on-year business growth since its formation as a standalone company in 2001. Looking to further bolster the company’s sales and service team to support future growth across both businesses, Tightrope recently promoted five-year company veteran Kelli Smith to Director of Broadcast Sales, and hired Richard Turner as Digital Signage Regional Sales Manager.

KelliSmith Tightrope

Kelli, based in Raleigh, NC, now manages sales for ZEPLAY, Tightrope’s industry-leading choice for cost-efficient, multichannel instant replay servers; and the company’s Cablecast portfolio of server and automation products. Kelli will leverage her experience and relationships from her previous roles as Southeast U.S. sales manager and Carousel digital signage portfolio sales manager (east coast) to drive new business across emerging vertical markets, notably universities and hospitality businesses, including hotels and cruise ships.

“Tightrope is very well known in the digital signage space and in the local PEG broadcast community, and it’s my goal to build that same recognition across a new group of customers in verticals that traditionally haven’t used Tightrope broadcast solutions,” said Smith. “For example, although Tightrope has thousands of servers operating in the field today, ZEPLAY is the only one focused on live production. We’re working to make sure that prospective customers think of ZEPLAY first when it comes to slow motion instant replay servers.”

As Tightrope Media Systems is privately held, Kelli stresses the importance of responding to customer and market needs directly. “I’m looking forward to growing the existing relationships I’ve built, and developing new ones through our customer-first approach,” she added.

Richard Turner, based in Maryland, has more than 30 years in the professional AV, broadcast and IT markets working as an end user, consultant, engineer and content producer. Most recently, he worked in the government sector. This rich and varied experience allows Richard to further elevate the already sterling customer service at Tightrope.

Richard is looking forward to learning the Southeast territory and meeting Tightrope’s strong customer base across the region. “It’s always great to learn how our end users use digital signage to tell their stories,” said Turner. But, he also realizes that it’s a challenge or customers to sort out the differences among the many products on the market.

“My greatest goal is education and ensuring our customers get the most from our resources and products,” adds Turner. “It’s not just about technology; it’s about understanding the stories the customers want and need to tell, and about a team, like Tightrope, that stands behind their products and encourages innovation and creativity.”

digicom to Represent Dan Dugan Sound Design in Japan

Dan Dugan Sound Design Inc. has announced the appointment of digicom, located in Nagoya, Japan as the company’s exclusive distributor for that country.

Operating both as a manufacturer and distributor/installer, digicom provides quality products and services to the Live Sound and Broadcast industries. Along with Dugan automatic mixing controllers, other products in the digicom line include control systems (manufactured by digicom), digital distribution systems from Atterotech; personal monitor systems and network audio from Pivitec; fiber optic systems from Fiberplex Technologies llc and Connex; Dante breakout systems from Four Audio; locking power cables from Schaffner and Ethernet switching products from Luminex.

“digicom is the perfect choice for selling Dugan products into Japan,” said Dan Dugan, President and CEO. “Their knowledge of the live sound and broadcast industries, and the complementary products they sell, will ensure the best support of the Dugan line to the discerning Japanese market.”

“We are pleased to represent Dan Dugan Sound Design,” said Haruo Abe, CEO of digicom. “As the inventor of the automatic microphone mixer, Mr. Dugan has the most experience of anyone in this field, and his company’s products are widely respected.”

Dan Dugan Sound Design, now in its 47th year, has been designing automatic microphone mixing technology since the late 1960s. Technologies invented by Dan Dugan include the Dugan Speech System, which automatically manages any number of live microphones in unscripted talking situations, the Dugan Music System, which offers automatic downward expansion to help reduce feedback and noise pick-up in live performances, and Dugan Gain Limiting, which provides a continuous, stepless, number-of-open-microphones master gain adjusting system. All three technologies provide the best possible mix of live microphones, providing fast, transparent cross-fades without upcutting, choppy sound or shifts in background noise. Transitions between talkers are smooth and consistent no matter how many mics are open. Dugan products are used in broadcast talk shows, corporate meetings, political events, educational settings, live theatre and other applications. The products are not mixers in themselves; rather, they are accessories to sound mixing consoles. The “Dugans” patch into the input insert points of a mixing console, giving the board operator all of the features of the board such as EQ and sends along with automatic mixing.

New Innovative Products and More Award-Winning Solutions Will Be Showcased at ShowStoppers @ CES 2015

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., December 29, 2014 – Kensington, a worldwide leader in delivering smart. safe. simple. computing accessories, announced today that it will introduce several innovative new products at ShowStoppers @ CES 2015 on January 6 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The new products augment Kensington’s family of solutions designed to protect ultra-thin computing devices, and deliver greater versatility to mobile users and at the desktop. In addition, Kensington will showcase a variety of its award-winning products at CES ShowStoppers table F15 at The Wynn, as well as the Da Vinci II Ballroom at the Bellagio Hotel, January 6-8.

“We are excited to present these new products at ShowStoppers as they represent both our design engineering expertise and the customer feedback we take into account when developing products,” said Amy Turpie, Marketing Communications Manager, Kensington. “With the new solutions, we’ve addressed the security and data protection concerns for mobile devices as they get smaller and more compact. In addition, the new products give users greater flexibility and increased productivity through power management, and more efficiency when using multiple devices when on the road or in the office.”

The new products will be announced on January 6, 2015: http://www.kensington.com/us/us/3699/news-press-center.

More Kensington products on display at ShowStoppers and The Bellagio include:

  • Trapper Keeper and Pee-Chee Tablet Cases: Kensington has brought these iconic themes back with a modern twist for today’s tablet user. The Mead-inspired cases are designed with the images that are now synonymous with students and academics from the 1980s — from sporty athletic patterns to colorful floral and artistic prints. The universal folio provides overall protection for assorted 7” and 10” tablet models. As students rapidly adopt digital tools to complement the customary pen and paper, these cases make a perfect companion for tablets used in educational environments. Built to keep a slim profile, the case is easy to carry along with school books and slip into a backpack. A secure magnetic flap and versatile 4-corner silicone base keep the tablet snug for protection, but also allow for easy removal if needed.
  • SafeGrip™ Rugged Carry Case and Stand: Wrapping the iPad Air in a tough, padded case complete with screen protection, the SafeGrip Rugged Carry Case and Stand can withstand drops, bumps and scratches, whether being used by kids in the classroom or mobile professional. A thick, sturdy handle is perfect to help prevent drops, and also functions as a two-position stand. The built-in stylus holder means fewer fingers on the iPad Air Retina display, and less chance of spreading germs during the cold and flu season.
  • BlackBelt™ Rugged Case: The Kensington BlackBelt Series of rugged cases offers military-grade tablet protection in three degrees to cover a variety of needs, so the iPad Air or iPad mini can be used in rough environments without fear. Every model features a tough, yet lightweight band that surrounds the tablet and was designed to meet the U.S. military’s MIL-STD-810 testing protocols for all-around defense against drops and scratches. Because the iPad’s curves are particularly vulnerable to damage, the cases offer extra thick corner protection. A raised bezel preserves the iPad screen, and a clear back protector provides additional insurance against scratches. The 1st and 2nd degree cases preserve access to all iPad Air or iPad mini ports, controls and cameras, making charging and syncing easy. The 3rd degree case utilizes port covers to protect the tablet from dust and debris.
  • 48W 4-Port USB Charger: Kensington’s 48W 4-Port USB Charger allows users to power up to four tablets and smartphones on their desk at the same time using PowerWhiz™ Technology. This technology allows almost any device to be plugged into the charger because it automatically recognizes a device and gives it the fastest charge possible while remaining completely circuit safe. Users can mix and match any combination of devices into any of the four USB ports, and each port can carry up to 2.4 AMPs of power to ensure that even tablets get a speedy charge. Additionally, the charger only needs a single wall socket to charge device batteries.

In addition to showcasing its products, Kensington will host a Happy Hour on January 6 and 7 at the Da Vinci II Ballroom, 5-6 p.m. Guests are invited to come by Kensington’s “SecureBack Bar” for a beverage, followed by a swing with a golf club simulator for a chance to win prizes.

DVIGear Switcher used at NASA’s Orion Test Launch and Control Center

MXP Series Switchers Help Oversee Launch of First Phase of the Journey to Mars

Marietta, Georgia    December 23, 2014  –  On Friday, December 5, 2014, NASA’s new Orion spacecraft successfully completed its first test flight.  Recognized as the beginning of a new era of space exploration, the flight is the first in a series of launches planned to lead humans to an asteroid and eventually Mars.  DVIGear, a leading supplier of Digital Connectivity Solutions, provided its MXP Series digital video routing switchers as the core AV switcher for the command center overseeing the Orion capsule.

Launching the Journey to Mars

The Orion spacecraft was built by Lockheed Martin, NASA’s prime contractor on the project. During the Exploration Flight Test 1 (EFT-1), Orion reached an altitude of over 3,600 miles, and during re-entry, Orion sped through the atmosphere at about 20,000 mph, generating temperatures of over 4,000 degrees F. around the heat shield. The perfectly executed flight was the first step in a series of missions intended to prepare for manned missions in deep space. Along the way, the Orion team will gather data and validate designs in order to prepare for the objective of sending astronauts to Mars.

Lockheed Martin subcontracted Orion Management, LLC to design and install the AV system for the command and control center that oversaw flight operations for this mission. Orion Management turned to DVIGear for its wide range of digital video connectivity products including its 33×33 MXP Series digital matrix routing switcher. DVIGear’s equipment was used to control and distribute the video and data images required by the Test Launch and Control Center and played a crucial role in managing the Orion spacecraft during EFT-1.

“I needed a solid solution for my customer,” said Dale Cicirelli, Florida Division Manager for Orion Management. “DVIGear provided equipment and support which were instrumental in designing a successful project that will lead us into the next generation of space exploration.”

“We are thrilled to have played a part in this important moment for space exploration,” stated Steven Barlow, DVIGear President. “The Orion mission objectives are critical to gaining a better understanding of our world and our solar system. This project aligns perfectly with DVIGear’s dedication to the advancement and communication of knowledge. We are proud to be part of the team.”
