DANLEY SOUND LABS AT INFOCOMM 2014: COME HEAR THE DIFFERENCE!

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – JUNE 2014: Danley Sound Labs, manufacturer of innovative loudspeakers and subwoofers that cleverly sidestep the trade-offs and constraints of conventional designs, will have its newest cutting-edge products on display (Booth C11711) and powered up (Demo Room N108) at InfoComm 2014, Las Vegas, Nevada from June 14 to June 20. Included will be:

• Danley’s SBH (Skinny Big Horn) Series of ultra-compact, column-shaped loudspeakers, which has been expanded to include several dispersal patterns and frequency ranges.
• Danley’s OS Series of fully-weatherized outdoor loudspeakers, which has been expanded to include a new wider beamwidth model and a new subwoofer model.
• Danley’s BC218 subwoofer, which marks an “all-time low” for the company (25Hz!).
• A LARES electronic sound enhancement system composed of Danley Nano loudspeakers, with special demonstrations by company president Mike Hedden on the trumpet.
• A range of Danley’s speakers from the mighty Jericho horns to the Compact Mini’s. Danley encourages all lovers of big sound – curious, converts, and skeptics alike – to come enjoy the Danley difference!

Unlike conventional designs, Danley’s SBH column loudspeakers are acoustically coupled to create a single large horn with an effective path length of over 25 feet. As a result, listeners enjoy an uncompromised frequency response at any listening position, and the output is free of troublesome lobes. Danley will have the SBH-10 (10-deg vertical), SBH-20 (20-deg vertical), and SBH-20LF (integrated subwoofer section for 40Hz performance) on hand. Hear for yourself.

Although most Danley products can be optionally weatherized, Danley’s OS Series is designed to endure unrelenting inclement conditions without compromising fidelity and performance – right out of the box. In addition to the original OS-80, Danley has added the OS-100, which has a 100-deg conical pattern and a smaller footprint than the OS-80, along with the OS-115LF, which delivers Danley’s famous low-frequency output. Show up and spill your drink on one.

In addition, Danley will demo its BC-218 subwoofer, which uses Tom Danley’s pioneering “Boundary Coherent” technology to deliver smooth, undistorted low end down to 25Hz (those in the EDM world take special note!).

And finally, lucky attendees will get to enjoy Mike Hedden’s sonorous trumpeting as amplified and spatialized through a LARES system composed of Danley’s diminutive (in stature, not in sound) Nano loudspeakers. Like most of what goes on at Danley Sound Labs, it has to be heard to be believed!

ABOUT DANLEY SOUND LABS Danley Sound Labs is the exclusive home of Tom Danley, one of the most innovative loudspeaker designers in the industry today and recognized worldwide as a pioneer for “outside the box” thinking in professional audio technology.

Sarasota Upgrades to HD Production for City Commission Coverage with Broadcast Pix

Billerica, Massachusetts – Broadcast Pix™ today announced the city of Sarasota, Fla., has upgraded its City Hall facilities to a native HD infrastructure, anchored by a Granite™ 2000 integrated production switcher, to produce its city commission meetings for television and the Web.

In 2000, the city upgraded its small production facility in City Hall with an S-Video infrastructure. More than a dozen years later, however, the city found it difficult to maintain or replace its outdated equipment. In February, Encore Broadcast Solutions of Tampa, Fla., installed a system-wide upgrade, including an HD-SDI signal path.

“Part of our impetus for doing the upgrade was to upgrade to HD production and adopt a digital workflow,” said Miles Larsen, public broadcasting manager, city of Sarasota.

Coverage of city commission meetings is sent via fiber to master control in a nearby county building for Access Sarasota, a unique government access channel available locally on Comcast Cable and Verizon FiOS that is shared between Sarasota County and the city. Neither Comcast nor Verizon provides an HD channel, so Access Sarasota sends a 4:3 letterbox signal of its meeting coverage to maintain the wide aspect ratio. The city also provides live and on-demand HD meeting coverage on its Web site.

The upgraded system includes three new Panasonic PTZ HD cameras (as well as a previously purchased document camera) in the commission chambers. One camera provides a wide shot of the commission, another shoots close-ups of commission members, and a third is positioned to shoot presenters. The chamber upgrade also included new microphones and an electronic voting system.

In the control room, the Granite system replaced an aging Echolab switcher and PC-based graphics system. “We were not planning on doing a lot of crazy, elaborate stuff,” Larsen recalled. “This is a dedicated switcher just for covering meetings. We actually went back to Encore and asked if the Granite was more than what we needed, and they said we’d want room to grow. They were right.”

With 11 SDI inputs, Granite provides the city commission with enough inputs for all four cameras, as well as DVDs, USB thumb drives and tablets supplied by residents, when necessary. Plus, Encore and Broadcast Pix engineers were able to create an API to allow our switcher to integrate with the AMX control system in the commission chambers, so a staff member can run the production, if necessary.

Granite’s built-in production tools, including the customizable Fluent-View multi-view, have also improved workflow during meetings. In particular, the Inscriber CG is a “huge upgrade” from the previous graphics system, which Larsen said was poorly integrated and poorly positioned in the control room. “Having the CG inside the switcher is so nice,” he added. “There’s no rolling your chair back and forth between workstations, and it’s so much easier to make changes.”

The new system has only been in use since March, but Larsen is already planning to use Granite’s built-in clip store to add roll-ins to open and close meeting coverage. “We can do things we just couldn’t do before, and we have the freedom to think creatively and improve our production values,” he said. “Every time I sit down in front of the Granite, from the beginning of the meeting to the end of the meeting, I’m more convinced it was the right decision. It makes our productions easier and better.”

New Jersey Township Chooses Yamaha CIS System

BUENA PARK, Calif.—The Township of Evesham, New Jersey courthouse is a typical municipal courtroom. It doubles as a non-jury courtroom, as well as a council meeting room and a township meeting room. Between the court and various town meetings, there can be up to 16 microphones on at any given time. The microphones need to be fed to the live speakers and for multi-track recording purposes.

ACIR Professional of Mays Landing, New Jersey was chosen to replace the live portion of the Township’s audio system in the hope of obtaining a cleaner, clearer sound. “In addition to obtaining a better quality sound, the customer still wanted to be able to send audio via multi-track to record,” states Vice President of Sales, Bobby Harper. “Having just demoed the new Yamaha CIS (Commercial Installation Solutions) Series products, the design became obvious.”

ACIR Pro chose a Yamaha MTX5-D processor with the EiX8-8 channel extender in order to accommodate the 16 inputs required. The processor also handles the routing of multi-track and a 4-zone (mix minus) to the Yamaha XMV4280-D Dante-enabled 4-channel amplifier. Yamaha VXC8W speakers were chosen for their clarity and ease of installation. The speakers are zoned for maximum gain before feedback. With assistance from a Dugan MY-16 Auto Mixer card installed in the MTX5-D and the extensive parametric EQ capabilities on each zone output.

Harper said the volume and clarity before feedback was staggering for both courtroom and meeting pre-sets. The presets were stored in the Yamaha MTX5-D library. Recall is available from an in-wall mounted Yamaha DCP1V4S-US controller that the clerk has at his/her fingertips. “Overall Yamaha was selected because of its new all-in-one CIS solution.”

ACIR also installed a Yamaha HS Studio Monitor along with 16 Shure MX418 D/C microphones.

Opticomm-EMCORE Announces the New Genesis XD, a Multimedia Matrix for 4K UHD and Beyond

Alhambra, CA –June 1, 2014 – Opticomm-EMCORE, a leading provider of end-to-end multimedia distribution equipment for 4K UHD and beyond, is launching their new Genesis XD (“GXD”) at InfoComm 2014, an all-in-one multimedia matrix solution that converts, scales, switches and distributes video, audio and data for small-to-large connectivity applications.  A four-panel video wall will be created using Genesis XD and Genesis-compatible multipoint products, including their new GBOX Series of compact, throw-down boxes, Optiva system cards, and the new Eclipse HD system.

Genesis XD accepts and converts both analog and digital signals, including HDMI 1.4b with HDCP (now known as HEAC – HDMI, Ethernet, Audio, Control), Display Port, DVI, VGA, Component and 3G HD-SDI.  GXD’s massive 40 Gbps backplane accommodates uncompressed 4K UHD resolutions now and 8K resolutions later, allowing it to serve as a staple for Installers that want a flexible and reliable connectivity platform.  Remote locations can be connected via singlemode and multimode Fiber up to 10 kilometers (6 miles), as well as CATx/HDBaseT or IP/Ethernet up to 100 meters (300 feet).

A notable feature of Genesis XD is the ability to break-away and switch audio separately for professional audio editing and processing requirements.  GXD also embeds digital S/PDIF or stereo analog audio inputs into HDMI and 3G HD-SDI signals, as well as, de-embeds audio from those same digital signals.  Supported data formats include 10/100 Mbps Ethernet, RS-232, CEC, USB 2.0 (for keyboard, mouse, storage devices etc.), and IR, which provides IR control of the source equipment from the display end of the link.

Genesis XD is a non-blocking, full cross-point matrix switch that allows any source to seamlessly connect to one or all displays for continuous, trouble-free operation in critical applications.  GXD is a modular system, expandable and scalable from 8×8 to 256×256.  Initially, GXD will be launched in a 32×32, 9RU frame, allowing for 16 cards input and 16 cards output, with two channels per card.  It incorporates “intelli-scale” technology to instantly scale a video source to the native resolution of connected displays in less than one second.

The multi-format Genesis XD platform can be utilized in numerous connectivity applications, including but not limited to:

  •  Corporate: One building can distribute multimedia between floors via copper cabling then send the same signals to a second building via fiber cabling, all output from the same switch. For AV/IT integration applications, GXD can bridge both audio/video and data networks over the same IP/Ethernet infrastructure.
  • Education: GXD can utilize existing copper and IP infrastructure for video conferencing in classrooms, then convert these and other signals for long-distance transport over fiber, for distribution of seminars, surveillance video and broadcast journalism programs throughout a campus or regional district.
  • Government and Military: GXD can support all video, audio and data for multi-display, high-security, Command and Control rooms, as well as distribute ultra-high resolution interactive video for simulation/mission control applications.
  • Hospital Operating Room: GXD can be deployed as the central switch for all connectivity applications, including archiving operating procedures, live video feed of procedures for long-distance teaching applications over fiber and IP/Ethernet, as well as distribution of multimedia to digital signage/video walls throughout the building.
  • Security and Surveillance: High-definition HDMI and 3G HD-SDI video may be routed through GXD from multiple sources to a single output using a quad-multiviewer card.
  • Worship: GXD offers seamless switching between video cameras and computer graphics, providing reliable, high-quality signal distribution to multiple projectors and screens.

Genesis XD includes interfaces such as USB 2.0 for remote KVM applications, RS-232 Serial Data and Ethernet for controlling remote devices.  The system can be remotely controlled and monitored through any laptop or tablet to access the web-based GUI.  Other forms of control supported are RS-232 and Ethernet/SNMP commands, allowing third-party control systems to be used. Additionally, it features a front-LCD touch screen for control and to act as a preview screen for any connected video source, eliminating need for a local, dedicated monitor.

For more information visit us at InfoComm 2014, June 18-20, Booth C7716, go to www.emcore.com/opticomm, or call 626-293-3400.
