Extron Introduces Encoder and Decoder for Real Time Streaming of HDCP-Compliant HDMI Over IP

Extron Electronics is pleased to introduce VN-Matrix 250 encoders and decoders, which provide real-time transmission of high resolution HDCP-compliant HDMI, DVI, or RGB video across standard IP networks for use in real-time streaming, recording, and playback applications. The VN-Matrix 250 Series accepts HDMI and RGB signals at resolutions up to 1920×1200 and 2048×1080, and streams video and audio over an IP network, preserving the native source resolution of digital or analog video sources. Stereo analog audio and HDMI-embedded audio signals are both supported, providing compatibility with embedded display speakers or existing audio systems. VN-Matrix 250 Series encoders and decoders use the PURE3 codec, which provides an unmatched combination of bit rate efficiency, low latency, visually lossless image quality, and a high immunity to network errors.

“When designing Extron’s new VN-Matrix 250 products for streaming HDMI, we capitalized on years of experience with our high-performance VN-Matrix products,” says Casey Hall, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Extron. “The VN-Matrix 250 Series stands out from other streaming products with fully HDCP-compliant streaming and a variety of new capabilities, which provide solutions for real-time streaming and distance collaboration applications.”

VN-Matrix 250 systems excel in applications with extremely demanding requirements such as command and control, training and simulation, or distance collaboration applications in government, aerospace, energy, or medical environments. With its very low encode and decode latency of just 70 ms, the VN-Matrix 250 Series is ideal for applications that must support bidirectional communication and real-time decision making. The combination of high quality, low delay, and flexible bit rate management makes the VN-Matrix 250 Series the ideal solution for many quality-critical applications.

Harris Broadcast Digital Signage Technology Expands ClearVision TV Network to Four Airports

InfoCaster™ solution drives broadcast experience with local advertising content in airport terminals

DENVER, July 22, 2013ClearVision, the in-airport TV network developed by Clear Channel Airports, a division of Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:CCO), and connectiVISION Digital Networks, is using Harris Broadcast digital signage technology to deliver an out-of-home broadcast experience to travelers in four airports. Powered by Harris Broadcast InfoCaster™ hardware and software, ClearVision delivers an engaging mix of network entertainment, in-house produced content, regional news and local advertising on uniquely branded channels for each airport.

connectiVISION gathers content from major broadcast and cable networks, produces supplementary media and graphics, and builds dayparting strategies for each channel based on 18-hour broadcast days. Those dayparting strategies incorporate advertising purchased by local businesses, which InfoCaster generates as interstitials, lower thirds and banners.

David Tetreault, chief operating officer at ClearVision/connectiVISION, notes that InfoCaster was the only solution of its kind that could handle the very specific program rotations and targeted content delivery ClearVision needs, along with the network-based scalability to support growth into more airports.

“We are broadcasters in the Away-From-Home arena and wanted to operate a program day that was scheduled hour by hour, minute by minute,” said Tetreault. “We run a program log that is dynamic and always changing. InfoCaster was the only system we evaluated that gave us the ability to plug in 12 minutes of advertising, three minutes of local branding per airport, and 45 minutes of entertainment content on an hourly basis for 18 hours each broadcast day. We can program many unique channels just as a TV station or cable company operates.”

To date, the company has launched broadcast services at major airports in Raleigh, Dallas, New Orleans, and soon Cleveland, with future major market launches in the works. Systems integration firm Keycode Media handles all airport installations, including InfoCaster media players, supporting infrastructure and screens in all terminals. Keycode Media also built ClearVision’s Burbank, California-based network operations center where all content is prepared, scheduled and distributed.

“ClearVision TV is quickly becoming a disruptive force in airport multimedia,” said Toby Sturek, executive vice president, specialty businesses, Clear Channel Outdoor. “Clear Channel Airport’s bold reinvention of the air travel experience through ClearVision is enabling local, regional and national brands to connect with, and entertain, millions of travelers annually in an even more meaningful way.”

Mike Cavanagh, president of Keycode Media, adds that InfoCaster allows ClearVision to clearly differentiate its services from other airport TV networks by creating and distributing unique content that is specific to each airport — as well as track any and all advertising placements across the entire network. “You can imagine how complex it is to track ad placements across multiple airports, all with their own unique broadcast channels,” said Cavanagh. “The InfoCaster software allows ClearVision to do it seamlessly and efficiently while creating an extremely attractive return on investment.”

Cavanagh adds that while airports will share network entertainment and some general content, the InfoCaster Network Manager tool makes it “easy to drag and drop the unique commercials and content for each city.”

Henry Mauriss, chief executive officer at ConnectiVISION, stated he expects the InfoCaster software will bring additional business benefits to the forefront of the operation, providing advertisers with proof of performance and opening last-minute windows into avails for up-to-the-minute ad scheduling. This strategy hammers home the point that ClearVision is a broadcast operation. InfoCaster is in fact part of a large Harris Broadcast family of graphics and channel branding products used by top network broadcasters.

“We looked at several players and chose Harris Broadcast because of its broadcast roots, and the ability of InfoCaster to provide more than the simple looping of content,” said Mauriss. “Between InfoCaster and our fully equipped studio, we have the tools to deliver the right mix of content designed for the way people consume media on the go. We are working to inform, entertain and educate viewers in the airports and beyond.”

Shotoku’s Pedestal/Head Systems Elevate Newscasts for Communications Corporation of America Stations

Torrance, CA • KETK-TV, a Communications Corporation of America station and the East Texas NBC affiliate located in Tyler, recently replaced a set of aging and obsolete pedestals with three Shotoku Broadcast Systems TP200/SX300 systems. Naoki Ebimoto President announced the installation from US headquarters in Torrance, CA.

On the air since 1987, KETK-TV provides news for Tyler, Longview, Waco, Shreveport and Baton Rouge sister stations from its Tyler facility. Communications Corporation of America is a leading medium-market broadcast and digital media company with outlets throughout Louisiana, Texas and Indiana.

“KETK selected the Shotoku systems following a fairly extensive research process,” explained Dan Trent, chief engineer at KETK-TV. “Price is always a driver, and Shotoku gives ‘more bang for the buck’”.

Trent continued, “We produce 12 hours of news per day for 5 stations from our Tyler facility, so Shotoku’s TP200/S300 pedestal/head system gets a lot of use. Our former equipment wasn’t capable of up and down movement, and that limited production creativity. The new units change elevation easily, giving operators the freedom to capture a variety of shots and adjust to our different sets. ”

Shotoku’s elegant and ergonomically designed TP200/SX300 Pedestal System is a state-of-the-art configuration ideal for news and production studios. The 2-stage pneumatic pedestal has a maximum payload of over 80kg (177 lbs.) and supports a wide-range of camera configurations. Its perfect balance column and base offer maximum stability and great operational flexibility. One-step foot brake and single-action cable guard enables precise movements and control at all times for fast and easy positioning.

The companion SX300 pan & tilt fluid head offers top class performance with 40kg (88 lbs.) payload and perfect counterbalance/smooth pan & tilt drag to maximize image flexibility.

Added Trent, “The systems have been performing flawlessly; we’ve already experienced a significant improvement over the previous equipment. The operators are very happy.”

The TP200/SX300 systems have been in constant use since their installation.

Muzika InStore Selects Barix as Exclusive IP Audio Playout Vendor

Barix helps Muzika InStore, retailers and other businesses enhance in-store atmosphere and expedite return on investment

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, July 16, 2013 — IP audio specialist Barix is supporting audio streaming and delivery for Muzika InStore, the new Croatia-based in-store audio service that allows customers to manage their own content. Muzika InStore exclusively uses the Barix Exstreamer 100 IP audio device to receive and decode programming at retail stores and businesses, citing exceptional audio quality, reliability, ease of use and low energy consumption.

The Muzika InStore service is a classic “store and forward” operation that includes two in-house developed web applications to support program development and management. The first application, MIT AddSite, gives customers complete freedom to create in-store audio programs that enhance the retail experience or business atmosphere. The second, MIT FTPstats, focuses on network-wide monitoring and troubleshooting. Current clients include KTC d.o.o, a Croatian chain of retail store and restaurants for which Muzika InStore produces 210 weekly promotions and advertisements, and Bluesun hotels and resorts; as well as retail businesses Metro, Emmerzeta, Trgocentar and Trgostil.

Robert Malekovic, CEO of Muzika InStore, says that the Barix devices help to ensure continuous playout of all in-store audio programs, while delivering a quick return on investment for both his company and his in-store clients.

“No operator in the world can guarantee 100 percent availability of the live internet stream, so we developed our ‘forward and play’ operation with Barix so that we do not have to depend on constant connections,” said Malekovic. “Barix devices are extremely reliable for playout and since each device consumes less than 4W of electricity, customers with multiple devices experience a return on investment in less than one year.”

Muzika InStore’s MIT AddSite application assists the creative process, allowing customers to freely and easily add, schedule and delete music, announcements and local advertisements through a central admin section. It also retains all customer information for simple ongoing management, including hours of operation as well as databases, playlists and musical preferences down to specific genres. Users can also generate reports to show proof of play for advertisers.

Once live at a business, the overall system refreshes itself at the same time each day, creates a playlist for the next week and then disconnects from the Internet to save network resources, ensuring that credit card authorization, point of sale systems and other primary retail systems are unaffected.

Malekovic adds that the ease of setup and installation further reduces his cost of investment. Muzika InStore configures the Barix devices for each client, preloading Exstreamers with Barix FTPMP3 firmware and shipping the plug-and-play devices direct to clients. Muzika InStore also preloads USB sticks, which are attached direct to the Exstreamer 100 to provide secondary, local audio source. This is especially helpful upfront to reduce the initial download needs and minimize network congestion. Meanwhile, newly installed devices automatically connect to Muzika InStore’s network.

“We find the new Barix devices on our servers so that the client can immediately start with creation of music programs and management of ads and promos,” said Malekovic. “The devices start and stop playing based on information the client has input within the AddSite application, so there are no manual interactions required by employees of the shop.”

Vitae Restaurant Serves Great Sound with Community

Located near Grand Central Terminal, in New York City’s Midtown East neighborhood, Vitae is a classy, upscale restaurant featuring a “New American” menu. Designed by architect Niels Guldager of New York interior design firm Studio CMP (www.studio-cmp.com), Vitae draws on the history of Midtown while bearing a strong contemporary identity that includes sound and acoustics as important design elements.

Architect Guldager said “bad sound can ruin an otherwise perfect restaurant environment. I want the right background music level and clarity so people can hear the music but still hold a conversation. And,” he continued, “clarity is key in getting sound into the ‘sweet spot’ as a design element.”

Guldager worked with contractor David Schwartz of Essential Communications in East Hanover, NJ, to design the sound system for Vitae. “The restaurant’s design didn’t always allow us to place the loudspeakers in the best locations for coverage,” said Schwartz. “And, the restaurant has several different ceiling heights.”

After considering these challenges, Schwartz chose Community’s new D-Series ceiling loudspeakers to meet the restaurant’s design goals of clarity and consistent level. D-Series wide, smooth dispersion helped Schwartz get good coverage throughout the restaurant. And, D-Series offered him seven different sized models, with uniform voicing, to help achieve consistent sound level and clarity in the different ceiling heights. Schwartz chose D-Series 6”, 8” and 10” models and notes that he was able to achieve “good blending despite the three different models of loudspeaker.” The system also has zones for music adjustment and source selection. This allows a choice of level and music style for private parties in spaces like the mezzanine.

With its attractive modern appearance, excellent food and great sound, Vitae continues to receive excellent reviews from publications like the New York Post, the Wall Street Journal and Virtual Gourmet and from patrons who post online comments like, “Why did I not find this place earlier?”

IC Realtime Introduces Cost-Effective Thermal Imaging Surveillance Camera; Leverages military channel experience and lower cost of goods to deliver a game-changer for the residential and light commercial markets

Pompano Beach, FL – July 1, 2013 – Video surveillance products brand IC Realtime has developed a cost-effective thermal imaging surveillance camera for the residential and light commercial markets. Called The SEEKER, the camera captures people, objects and activity in total darkness with complete accuracy and is impervious to adverse weather conditions. The SEEKER retails in the $3,000 price range and is shipping now.

“Thermal cameras provide the highest level of detail and capture distance because they focus solely on heat imprints (which don’t dissipate over distance),” says IC Realtime CEO Matt Sailor. “If the object is living — or very hot like a car, boat or plane — the thermal camera can see its imprint. This significantly reduces false alarms common to standard cameras brought on by trees, reflection, water and many others factors that create a false motion alert. For these reasons, nearly every install can greatly benefit from the thermal camera.”

IC Realtime is well-versed in high-end thermal surveillance gear, having supplied the military and other government agencies for many years. According to Sailor, the goal behind The SEEKER was to make this technology available to the custom residential and light to medium commercial markets at a more cost-effective price. The company leveraged its acumen in this arena along with recent lower costs of thermal components. “Previously this type of technology would have cost three to four times more,” says Sailor.

“Our ability to deliver a thermal camera to the masses for about the same price as a high-end PTZ (pan/tilt/zoon) camera is a huge deal,” adds Sailor. “This is a great leap forward with respect to the type of precision monitoring that installers can now bring to their clients.”

The infrared thermal detectors utilized in The SEEKER are composed of Vanadium Oxide (VOx). The de facto standard for ‘uncooled’ thermal imaging detectors, VOx produces results 3 times better than detectors composed of Amorphous Silicon (a-Si) or Barium Strontium Titanate (BST) (used with a lens of the same relative aperture).

For more information on THE SEEKER, contact IC Realtime at 954.772.5327. Description and specs can be read at: http://www.icrealtime.com/solutions/pdshowg.asp?pdid=THESEEKER

About IC Realtime: IC Realtime is a global leader in the design and manufacture of advanced visual surveillance solutions – founded by experts with a combined 35 years of experience in the development, marketing, sales, installation and support of security and alarm equipment. South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa in Las Vegas Builds to the Future with Complete QSC Audio System

South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa, Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV (June 2013) — South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa, the first mega-resort to be built south of McCarran Airport on the Las Vegas Strip, has installed a QSC Audio Q-Sys(TM) Core 500i network processor, CX Series amplifiers and AcousticDesign(TM) ceiling speakers to handle paging and P.A. in its recently expanded Arena and Equestrian Center. The resort, which purchased the QSC Audio components through Solotech Las Vegas, intends to extend the Q-Sys network into a $30 million bowling arena planned for completion at the beginning of 2016.

The property opened at the very end of 2006, and added QSC Audio BASIS networked audio products to the resort, reports Jason Lein, South Point’s production manager. “When we expanded the arena we took the opportunity to upgrade the processing in there from BASIS to the new Q-Sys 500i. The system has so much processing power that all of the bowling arena expansion will be run off that same core as well. The bowling center will be built for broadcast TV and we’ll have two new equestrian arenas as well—we’ll run it all off that same system.”

South Point recently expanded a concourse and added meeting rooms to its Arena and Equestrian Center, which features a 4,600-seat show arena, an indoor practice arena and a covered outside arena. The center also hosts motor sports and other events in addition to equestrian shows.

Using the new Core 500i, adds Lein, “We created four different concourse zones. We’ve got a bar, tunnels, a practice arena and 1200 air-conditioned horse stalls; the new meeting rooms located on the concourse. We run approximately 144 different page configuration options, using both wired and wireless mics for paging. Depending on what horse events are in here we have to set up several different page zoning scenarios on the fly.”

Lein and his crew installed a dozen AcousticDesign AD-CI52ST two-way, high fidelity in-ceiling speakers in the concourse and meeting rooms, as well as TSC-3 networked touch screen controllers in the meeting rooms. South Point added QSC CX602 amplifiers to power the new ceiling speakers. “Everything is QSC amp-based, even in the main arena,” reports Lein. “We’ve got some PowerLight 4.0 amps from the original install that we never need to replace, and we’re using the PL380s as well.”

Production staff members typically employ wireless control of the Q-Sys set-up, says Lein. “Whichever tech crew is assigned to an event will grab an iPad or the computer controller and set the paging configurations up prior to that show, based on that event’s needs. Switching from the BASIS to the Q-Sys system made it very easy for us to program these iPad-controllable UCIs [user control interfaces] to fit those needs, then reset the whole system before the next event, and then set up the next event, all off these UCIs. The Q-Sys system has been a big benefit for that alone.”

At the end of April, South Point, Las Vegas Events and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority jointly announced a 12-year agreement with the United States Bowling Congress to host seven championship events in Las Vegas beginning in 2016. South Point, which already features a 64-lane Bowling Center, home to the Professional Bowlers Association’s World Series of Bowling, will build a two-story complex housing a 60-lane bowling facility outfitted with the latest technology on the top floor and two additional horse arenas—sound isolated from the floor above—on the lower level.

“When we get into the new expansion, the two new arena bowls, we’ll install the new QSC AcousticDesign Series speakers,” says Lein. “We’ll be installing over 100 of the 5 ¼-inch AD-CI52ST ceiling speakers throughout the bowling center hallways. We’ll also be installing AcousticDesign series speakers for the bowling lanes, with QSC subs placed throughout the bowling center. We’ll probably be adding more Q-Sys I/O Frames later this year.”

The upgrade to the Q-Sys system’s advanced Layer 3 networking technology has made it easier for Lein to program the new set-up. “Our new design with Q Sys, where the schematics are all-in- one is phenomenal. It definitely makes it easier on the programmer,” he observes. Lein also praises the remote access offered by the system. “We’ve got one or two people, myself included, who handle the programming. When we’re at home and we get service calls, it’s so great to be able to have the remote Signal Probe and be able to analyze what’s going on with the system from anywhere.”
