IC Realtime Introduces Cost-Effective Thermal Imaging Surveillance Camera; Leverages military channel experience and lower cost of goods to deliver a game-changer for the residential and light commercial markets

Pompano Beach, FL – July 1, 2013 – Video surveillance products brand IC Realtime has developed a cost-effective thermal imaging surveillance camera for the residential and light commercial markets. Called The SEEKER, the camera captures people, objects and activity in total darkness with complete accuracy and is impervious to adverse weather conditions. The SEEKER retails in the $3,000 price range and is shipping now.

“Thermal cameras provide the highest level of detail and capture distance because they focus solely on heat imprints (which don’t dissipate over distance),” says IC Realtime CEO Matt Sailor. “If the object is living — or very hot like a car, boat or plane — the thermal camera can see its imprint. This significantly reduces false alarms common to standard cameras brought on by trees, reflection, water and many others factors that create a false motion alert. For these reasons, nearly every install can greatly benefit from the thermal camera.”

IC Realtime is well-versed in high-end thermal surveillance gear, having supplied the military and other government agencies for many years. According to Sailor, the goal behind The SEEKER was to make this technology available to the custom residential and light to medium commercial markets at a more cost-effective price. The company leveraged its acumen in this arena along with recent lower costs of thermal components. “Previously this type of technology would have cost three to four times more,” says Sailor.

“Our ability to deliver a thermal camera to the masses for about the same price as a high-end PTZ (pan/tilt/zoon) camera is a huge deal,” adds Sailor. “This is a great leap forward with respect to the type of precision monitoring that installers can now bring to their clients.”

The infrared thermal detectors utilized in The SEEKER are composed of Vanadium Oxide (VOx). The de facto standard for ‘uncooled’ thermal imaging detectors, VOx produces results 3 times better than detectors composed of Amorphous Silicon (a-Si) or Barium Strontium Titanate (BST) (used with a lens of the same relative aperture).

South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa in Las Vegas Builds to the Future with Complete QSC Audio System

South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa, Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV (June 2013) — South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa, the first mega-resort to be built south of McCarran Airport on the Las Vegas Strip, has installed a QSC Audio Q-Sys(TM) Core 500i network processor, CX Series amplifiers and AcousticDesign(TM) ceiling speakers to handle paging and P.A. in its recently expanded Arena and Equestrian Center. The resort, which purchased the QSC Audio components through Solotech Las Vegas, intends to extend the Q-Sys network into a $30 million bowling arena planned for completion at the beginning of 2016.

The property opened at the very end of 2006, and added QSC Audio BASIS networked audio products to the resort, reports Jason Lein, South Point’s production manager. “When we expanded the arena we took the opportunity to upgrade the processing in there from BASIS to the new Q-Sys 500i. The system has so much processing power that all of the bowling arena expansion will be run off that same core as well. The bowling center will be built for broadcast TV and we’ll have two new equestrian arenas as well—we’ll run it all off that same system.”

South Point recently expanded a concourse and added meeting rooms to its Arena and Equestrian Center, which features a 4,600-seat show arena, an indoor practice arena and a covered outside arena. The center also hosts motor sports and other events in addition to equestrian shows.

Using the new Core 500i, adds Lein, “We created four different concourse zones. We’ve got a bar, tunnels, a practice arena and 1200 air-conditioned horse stalls; the new meeting rooms located on the concourse. We run approximately 144 different page configuration options, using both wired and wireless mics for paging. Depending on what horse events are in here we have to set up several different page zoning scenarios on the fly.”

Lein and his crew installed a dozen AcousticDesign AD-CI52ST two-way, high fidelity in-ceiling speakers in the concourse and meeting rooms, as well as TSC-3 networked touch screen controllers in the meeting rooms. South Point added QSC CX602 amplifiers to power the new ceiling speakers. “Everything is QSC amp-based, even in the main arena,” reports Lein. “We’ve got some PowerLight 4.0 amps from the original install that we never need to replace, and we’re using the PL380s as well.”

Production staff members typically employ wireless control of the Q-Sys set-up, says Lein. “Whichever tech crew is assigned to an event will grab an iPad or the computer controller and set the paging configurations up prior to that show, based on that event’s needs. Switching from the BASIS to the Q-Sys system made it very easy for us to program these iPad-controllable UCIs [user control interfaces] to fit those needs, then reset the whole system before the next event, and then set up the next event, all off these UCIs. The Q-Sys system has been a big benefit for that alone.”

At the end of April, South Point, Las Vegas Events and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority jointly announced a 12-year agreement with the United States Bowling Congress to host seven championship events in Las Vegas beginning in 2016. South Point, which already features a 64-lane Bowling Center, home to the Professional Bowlers Association’s World Series of Bowling, will build a two-story complex housing a 60-lane bowling facility outfitted with the latest technology on the top floor and two additional horse arenas—sound isolated from the floor above—on the lower level.

“When we get into the new expansion, the two new arena bowls, we’ll install the new QSC AcousticDesign Series speakers,” says Lein. “We’ll be installing over 100 of the 5 ¼-inch AD-CI52ST ceiling speakers throughout the bowling center hallways. We’ll also be installing AcousticDesign series speakers for the bowling lanes, with QSC subs placed throughout the bowling center. We’ll probably be adding more Q-Sys I/O Frames later this year.”

The upgrade to the Q-Sys system’s advanced Layer 3 networking technology has made it easier for Lein to program the new set-up. “Our new design with Q Sys, where the schematics are all-in- one is phenomenal. It definitely makes it easier on the programmer,” he observes. Lein also praises the remote access offered by the system. “We’ve got one or two people, myself included, who handle the programming. When we’re at home and we get service calls, it’s so great to be able to have the remote Signal Probe and be able to analyze what’s going on with the system from anywhere.”

Extron Introduces New Eight-Channel Audio Extractor for 3G-SDI

Extron Electronics is pleased to introduce the 3G-AE 100, a high performance audio extractor for 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, and SDI digital video signals. It automatically detects the incoming 3G-SDI/HD-SDI/SDI data rate, de-embeds up to eight channels of digital audio, and then converts it to line level, analog audio. The 3G-AE 100 features an equalized 3G-SDI/HD-SDI/SDI input and eight analog audio outputs that are switch-selectable to support audio groups 1 through 4. A buffered and reclocked 3G-SDI/HD-SDI/SDI loop-through allows two 3G-AE 100 units to be cascaded to support up to 16 channels of embedded audio. The 3G-AE 100 is ideal for use in applications where digital audio must be extracted from a 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, or SDI signal and converted to line level, analog audio.

“SDI signals are steadily gaining popularity as a way to transmit high definition video signals in commercial AV systems, but converting embedded digital audio into a form that can be used in AV systems has been a challenge,” says Casey Hall, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Extron. “The 3G-AE 100 joins our growing line of SDI products and provides a simple, convenient solution for de-embedding SDI audio for playback through a house audio system or similar needs.”

The 3G-AE 100 de-embeds eight channels of digital audio from SDI groups 1/2 or 3/4, and outputs it as line level, analog audio on captive screw connectors. Two units can be cascaded to support applications in which 16 channels of audio are required. In addition, the 3G-AE 100 features automatic input equalization up to 500 feet (150 meters) for HD-SDI and SDI signals, and up to 400 feet (120 meters) for 3G-SDI on Extron RG6 cables. Input cable equalization reduces the need for additional signal conditioning equipment by compensating for weak source signals or signal loss from a long input cable.

A convenient front panel data rate indicator provides visual confirmation of input data rates for quick identification of the incoming digital video signal. The 3G-AE 100 is housed in a compact 1U, quarter rack width metal enclosure for easy integration into both new and existing AV systems.

HARMAN’s Martin Lighting and HARMAN Professional Audio Components Go on a Sea Cruise with Royal Caribbean International

MIAMI, Florida — Royal Caribbean International is one of the world’s largest cruise lines, with 21 ships to its name that sail to the most popular destinations in the Caribbean, Europe, Alaska, South America, the Far East, and Australia and New Zealand. The compnay goes all-out to give its guests the ultimate vacation with world-class restaurants, designer shopping, and entertainment including Broadway hit musicals – lit by Martin lighting with audio provided by a host of HARMAN Professional audio components and loudspeakers.

Royal Caribbean does things in a big way, with ships as large as 225,282 gross tonnage. Each vessel is equipped with several thousand Martin intelligent lighting fixtures, notes Paul Riley, Fleet Technical Operations, Sound, Lighting and Rigging. The ships use all types of Martin lighting including MAC Wash, Entour, Profile, Aura and many other LED, short-arc discharge and tungsten halogen lamp models. In addition, Martin’s LightJockey2 software-based control system is used in nearly all of the ships’ discos and smaller entertainment spaces.

On each ship Royal Caribbean has at least two shows in the main theater, one generally a higher-energy show with a rock edge, and the other a more theatrical production. “Three ships have actual Broadway productions on them, ‘Hairspray,’ ‘Chicago’ and ‘Saturday Night Fever,’” noted Riley. Shows on several ships also feature ice skating rinks with international skating stars, aerial acrobats and AquaTheaters, high-dive and water shows that are held in large amphitheaters at the back of the ships.

Riley likes Martin because of its value per dollar, rugged construction and easy serviceability. Like many pros, he’s specifying more and more LED lighting. While Royal Caribbean has been using LED lighting for years on its pool decks, adult and teen discos and smaller entertainment spaces, Riley felt that LED wasn’t viable for theatrical applications until a few years ago, but moving forward they’ll be using LED almost exclusively. “For us, LED is a no-brainer. Fuel prices are still quite high and since LED uses less power, it uses less fuel.” LED eliminates the need for large, expensive and power-consuming dimmer racks and saves a lot of money on lamp consumption, which is a big factor for Royal Caribbean as their larger vessels have more than 1,000 fixtures per ship. Riley notes that all outdoor lighting is IP-rated and that “all equipment that’s considered for shipboard applications must be robust and able to operate with power that can be inconsistent at times and fluctuate a bit.”

On the audio side, Riley points out that dozens upon dozens of JBL Control 23s series speakers and JBL Control 1s are installed in discos, lounges, sports bars, centrums and other areas. Royal Caribbean uses various Crown amplifiers almost exclusively in all the entertainment venues on its Vision Class ships and the Majesty of the Seas, and Riley points out that the Crown Macro Tech and Micro Tech amps that were installed in the fleet’s Majesty and Vision Class ships in the early 1990s are still in service today. A selection of dbx compressors and Lexicon effects units are employed everywhere from the largest theaters to smaller venues.

“BSS Soundweb London signal processors and audio networking products are the only DSPs we use in the main theaters, secondary lounges, studios and larger entertainment venues on all 21 of our ships,” Riley said. “The newer, larger ships use BSS products almost exclusively in every venue and all those systems are networked to provide extensive centralized audio control capabilities throughout each vessel. Royal Caribbean has been using BSS extensively on ships built since the early 2000s and nearly all older boats have been retrofitted with BSS gear.

“I think the primary aspect of the ships’ lighting and audio that might surprise many people is the sheer amount of equipment we have in use,” Riley concluded. “Many people think of a cruise as a laid back vacation on a ship that might have some entertainment offerings, but they might not think of the entertainment as a key feature of the vacation as it is on our ships. In reality, our guests are surprised to see the size of our venues, the intensity and quality of our productions and how technologically advanced our equipment is. Most any equipment you’d find in a major concert venue or the more modern showrooms in Vegas, you’ll find in use on our ships.”

HARMAN (www.HARMAN.com) designs, manufactures, and markets a wide range of audio, lighting and infotainment solutions for the automotive, consumer, and professional markets. It is a recognized world leader across its customer segments with premium brands including AKG®, Harman Kardon®, Infinity®, JBL®, Lexicon®, and Mark Levinson®, and leading-edge connectivity, safety and audio technologies. The company is admired by audiophiles across multiple generations and supports leading professional entertainers and the venues where they perform. More than 25 million automobiles on the road today are equipped with Harman audio and infotainment systems. Harman has a workforce of about 14,300 people across the Americas, Europe, and Asia and reported sales of $4.4 billion for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2012.

ASHLY RATED THE TOP AUDIO ENTRÉE AT CHEF ROB’S CARIBBEAN CAFÉ

SANDY SPRINGS, GEORGIA – MAY 2013: Located in Sandy Springs, Georgia, Chef Rob’s Caribbean Café has been a culinary destination for Atlantans since 2006. The restaurant’s success inspired Chef Rob to open a sister establishment next door, Chef Rob’s Upscale Lounge. Of course, the lounge would need an authoritative sound reinforcement system and a high-end video system, and because the two establishments share staff, customers, and a wall, it was also an excellent time to update the café’s audio and video system. Local A/V integration firm T. Magee, Inc. designed and installed a new value-engineered sound and video system based on Ashly Audio processing, amplification, and user control that gives both establishments access to the same source material and yet provides each establishment with independent source selection and volume control.

Todd Magee, the eponymous owner of T. Magee, Inc., spent decades behind a live mixing console before concentrating his attention on the more geographically-rooted profession of A/V integration. Nevertheless, he continues to tour the world (though less occasionally now) and has worked with seventeen Grammy-winning artists, including Gladys Knight, OutKast, and Loretta Lynn. To be sure, Magee knows what it takes to make audio sound great. “Chef Rob’s Caribbean Café used to use a home-grown stereo receiver with long loudspeaker runs,” he explained. “They wanted to upgrade that to a commercial system and to tie it into the video system. On the lounge side, they wanted access to all the same music and video inputs that they had on the café side, plus inputs for a DJ.”

Stereo inputs to the system include a DMX Pandora receiver, two satellite receivers, and three floor boxes on the lounge side. Each floor box includes stereo XLR inputs, stereo ?-inch inputs, and stereo RCA inputs. An Ashly ne24.24M modular processor, configured with twelve inputs and eight outputs, provides input processing, matrixing, and loudspeaker equalization and delay. Because it is so easy to add inputs or outputs to the ne24.24M, Magee will soon add four more inputs to accommodate the lounge’s recent request for a few handheld wireless microphones.

Five Ashly KLR 2000 amplifiers, three on the lounge side and two on the café side, power the system. High fidelity Australian Monitor loudspeakers and SoundTube subwoofers complete the system. “One unique aspect of this installation is the rack system we used,” said Magee. “There are four racks recessed into an area near the entranceway. It’s an elegant, out-of-the-way place to put them, and when we need access, they pull out and rotate 90-degrees. Very cool.”

He continued, “I’ve been an Ashly fan for years. I first worked with Ashly’s analog crossovers, GQX series equalizers, and compressors in live audio. Now their digital equipment reflects the same commitment to quality that I heard so many years ago. The sound quality is comparable to units from other manufacturers that cost twice as much. The IP-based control and communication is also very nice.” A pair of Ashly neWR-5 wall remote controls provide all of the system management required – source selection and volume control.

To streamline audio setup, the MPS 602 features front panel mic and program audio output volume controls that allow for independent adjustment of mic volume, program audio volume, and muting. Two MPS 602 models feature integrated power amplifiers. The MPS 602 SA delivers stereo power amplification with 50 watts rms per channel into 4 ohms and 25 watts rms per channel into 8 ohms, while the MPS 602 MA provides mono 70 volt amplification with 100 watts rms output.

To simplify integration of sources and displays, and to help ensure optimal system performance and dependability, the MPS 602 features two Extron-exclusive technologies: EDID Minder® and Key Minder®. EDID Minder manages EDID communication between the display device and input sources to ensure that the correct video formats are displayed reliably. For HDMI signals with protected content, Key Minder authenticates and maintains continuous HDCP encryption between input and output devices to ensure quick and reliable switching.
