ASHLY AUDIO REVAMPS WEBSITE, BEEFS UP ORGANIZATION AND CONTENT

WEBSTER, NEW YORK: Ashly Audio, one of leading manufacturers of power amplification and signal processing, now treats its existing and prospective customers to a newly-redesigned website (www.ashly.com) replete with well-organized product, installation and application content. With a modern look and feel, the site is easy to navigate. John Sexton, Ashly’s vice president of sales, conceived the organization and aesthetic, and graphic designer Michael Sukhenko executed it.

“Technical specifiers told us to make data sheets, manuals and drawing files no more than two mouse clicks away”, explains Sexton. “Our Products page has a spreadsheet of information in a single location. It’s two clicks for integrators to download data sheets for submittals. It’s two clicks for system designers to access A&E DOC files that can be cut and pasted right into their specification packages. Two clicks and you’re done.”

Metrics show that the Ashly website has increasing traffic from dealer’s clients and end-users, which underscores the importance of presenting Ashly products to non-technical visitors. The new website features a graphic guide on the home page – Ashly In Your World – that directs these visitors to a page that explains how Ashly products work in worship facilities, restaurants, schools, hotels and other facilities. Each market segment page features information from Ashly’s extensive collection of installation profiles and application notes.

The Technical Support & Educational menu has been enhanced by the addition of Ashly TV, a series of three to five minute videos that address specific technical topics. The page has a built-in video player. The FAQ Section was developed by the technical services staff to answer the most popular questions that arise from new dealers who are using Ashly products for the first time.

Retained in the new design is a comprehensive – and appropriately humorous – look at Ashly’s 38-year history as a pro audio innovator.

ABOUT ASHLY AUDIO Ashly Audio Inc. is recognized as a world leader in the design and manufacturing of high quality & high performance signal processing equipment and power amplification for use in the commercial sound contracting and professional audio markets. FSR Rallies Behind Home State to Provide Relief for New Jersey Storm Victims

Woodland Park, NJ– FSR, a Passaic County-based manufacturer, has rallied behind fellow New Jerseyans in the wake of Sandy to provide relief for the superstorm’s victims.

Accompanied by a team of FSR volunteers, company president, Jan Sandri arrived at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Highlands, NJ on Friday, November 9 in vehicles packed with food, paper products, cleaning supplies, clothing and checks.

“Highlands is a small town adjacent to Sandy Hook with a permanent population of 5,000,” said Sandri. “The homes are primary residences, not vacation houses. The town was hit with 13.5’ of water, even before the storm surge came through. These people are our neighbors and have lost so much. It’s a very good feeling to be lending a helping hand.”

Sandri noted that Church volunteers helped unload the supplies as dozens of other cars lined up to drop off diapers, food and other urgently needed products.

“While outside I noticed a truck from Florida Power and Light (FPL) and questioned the driver about his trip,” continued Sandri. “He explained that he was from Texas but was using a FPL vehicle because his own hadn’t arrived yet. It’s wonderful to see the cooperation and help pouring into New Jersey.”

All donations were made in the name of FSR, the Company’s employees, customers and business associates.

MASTRO’S PENTHOUSE FAVORS ASHLY

BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA: Mastro’s stands among the nation’s premier steak and seafood houses, and its Beverly Hills location is one of its most celebrated. In fact, business was so brisk that the management decided to expand upward, literally. After renovating the third floor of its North Canon Drive location, Mastro’s Penthouse recently opened to offer drinks, sushi, and deck lounge dining. In addition, a private dining room with its own private balcony is sure to be well used by the restaurant’s upscale clientele. Mastro’s hired Clean Media – the same A/V integration company that helped create the ambiance in the first two floors – to design and install a video and audio system that would be consistent with Mastro’s exclusive aesthetic. Clean Media obliged, relying on Ashly Audio amplifiers with integrated Protea(tm) DSP to guarantee reliable performance with audio that is grilled – or rather, tuned – to perfection.

Clean Media is based in Scottsdale, Arizona and enthusiastically endorsed by well-known All-Pro football player, Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen. He loved the home theater that Clean Media built for him so much that he’s been helping to promote the company ever since. Not that Clean Media is really hurting for business; it is the go-to company for many of the country’s high-end chains, including Eddie V’s Restaurants (owned by Darden Restaurants), Oreganos Pizza Bistro, Twin Peaks Restaurant, and, of course, Mastro’s Restaurants.

“A little over a year ago, Ashly Audio sent some engineers to give our company a presentation,” recalled Dylan Vicha, the owner of Clean Media. “We shared all of the problems and issues that we had run into with other manufacturers, and they clearly articulated how an Ashly-based system would circumvent them. We tried out Ashly at the Red Revolver Lounge in Scottsdale, a club that I also co-own, and everyone agreed that Ashly delivered tremendous processing power, great user control integration, reliability, and ready technical support – and all at a very fair price point. Having now used Ashly for almost every project initiated in the last year, we’re confident that Ashly gear will meet and exceed our clients’ needs and will uphold the reputation that we have earned for building easy-to-use, great-sounding, and bullet-proof A/V systems.”

Inputs to the new system include a PC, Blu-ray, two channels of DirecTV, a DJ/band jack, a live music feed from the second floor, an MP3 input from the second floor, and DirecTV from the second floor. A Crestron audio matrix switcher selects and routes the inputs appropriately, with a Crestron HDMI video matrix switcher doing the same for the associated video inputs. A Crestron Series 3 control processor with wall-mounted touchscreens and an iPad interface give the Penthouse staff intuitive control over relevant system parameters. One eight-channel Ashly ne8250.70pe and one four-channel Ashly ne4250.70pe, both with built-in Protea DSP matrix mixer & processor, handle signal amplification and signal processing duties simultaneously. JBL in-ceiling loudspeakers cover five output zones: the bar, the restrooms, the dining area, the hallway, and the private dining area. Atlas weather-resistant loudspeakers cover the patios.

“The Ashly amplification and processing has been extremely reliable in all our commercial 70-volt applications, and the clients always comment on how easy our systems are to use,” said John White, project manager with Clean Media. “We have used Ashly both as a standalone audio control system and as an amplifier/processor integrated with Crestron & RTI control systems. The Protea DSP control is easy to set up, and we’re always able to dial in great sound in each zone, no matter what the acoustic obstacles are. We will be using Ashly Audio products in all our future projects.” In the coming months, completed Ashly projects will include Federal Pizza (Owners of the Postino Wine Café chain), Hopdoddy Burger Bar (former owners of Eddie V’s Restaurants), and the additional Oreganos, Eddie V’s, and Twin Peaks locations.

DIFFUSING / SCATTERING SOUND: Sound Diffusion Explained

Acoustic Diffuser DemonstrationAcoustics First has just released another in a series of videos to help explain acoustical principles using simple, easy to understand video demonstrations. This latest demonstration tackles the mystery of acoustic sound diffusion. Using an array of ping pong balls to represent sound visually, this video simply demonstrates what occurs when sound strikes the surface of an acoustic diffuser. First, you will see what happens when sound hits a flat reflective surface with no acoustical treatment. Acoustic Sound DiffuserThe balls all bounce at the same time and in the same direction. This represents what happens to the sound when it hits a flat reflective surface like a wall. Then you see what happens when sound hits an acoustic sound diffuser. You will immediately notice the energy of the wave of balls is scattered in all different directions as well as deflected at different time intervals. Diffusers, disperse or scatter the sound like crowd control, preserving the sound to maintain sound clarity without destructive interference. This is the basic principle behind acoustic sound diffusion.

Authentic Renkus-Heinz Sound for Authentic Irish Pub

New York, NY – October 2012….. Manhattan has no shortage of Irish-themed pubs, but Tir Na Nog on 39th Street is truly a cut above. Step in out of the bustling midtown traffic and you’re instantly transported to a High Street local in Galway or Cork. The décor is at once authentic and unconventional, right down to the LED-laden 300-year-old Irish rowboat, replete with fishing net, on the ceiling.

“The owner, Tony Colbert, owns several Irish pubs and takes immense pride in the design of each of them,” explains Rich Trombitas of Cornwall, NY-based Cardone, Soloman and Associates. “He imports woodwork that’s been salvaged from churches built in Ireland in the 1700s and 1800s, then they design the individual detail to fit the space, and the woodwork is all done by master carpenters. The architecture and décor is simply magnificent – it all looks like it’s been there for centuries.”

Trombitas says the owner was adamant that equal attention be paid to the pub’s audio system, which includes a cross-section of Renkus-Heinz TRX and CFX Series loudspeakers as well as PNX and BPS subwoofers. “Tony made it clear that he wanted more than just background music,” he says. “He wanted a system that sounded consistently great no matter where you’re sitting, and blended seamlessly with the design of the place.”

The system, installed by veteran AV firm Starview Satellite of Rego Park, NY, is divided into numerous zones, with a primary focus on the main dining area and the pub’s expansive and ornate bar, bridging the space from front to back. Sound to the main dining area is handled by eight TRX81 two-way 8-inch loudspeakers. A pair of PNX112 subwoofers recessed into the walls provides extra low end punch.

The bar is divided into two zones, with five more TRX81 units and a built-in BPS12-1 sub covering the front bar area. The rear bar uses four TRX81s and another BPS12-1 sub. Powersoft amplification drives the system.

“The coverage of the TRX-Series aligns perfectly with what we needed to accomplish in this space,” says Trombitas. “The rotatable horn enabled us to mount the units either vertically or horizontally, depending on what worked better in that particular space.”

Ringing the dining area are individual booths, sporting massive 18-inch thick stone walls and burnt beams. “The design is an homage to Irish society at the height of the depression,” Trombitas explains. “The upper class gentry and the peasants can see each other, but there’s a space separating them.”

CFX41 compact 4-inch two-way coaxial boxes are mounted over the booths for added reinforcement. “Their level is down pretty low, about 8dB lower than the mains, just to fill in the mids and highs when the place is crowded,” says Trombitas.

Trombitas reports owner Tony Colbert is truly pleased with the audio quality. “He walked around the entire bar and said ‘it’s absolutely exactly the same, no matter where I go,’ and declared it the best sounding system he’d ever heard in a bar.” And Trombitas adds, “This is probably one of the most architecturally interesting and diverse pub projects I’ve ever been involved in.”

Exploring the Arts Gala Features Performances by Tony Bennett, Sting and a Yamaha CL5

BUENA PARK, Calif.—Hosted by Katie Couric with performances by Tony Bennett and his quartet with a special guest performance by Sting, the annual Exploring the Arts (ETA) fundraiser held October 4 at Cipriani’s mid-town in New York City raised $1.2 million. A star-studded red carpet affair, benefactors attending included Alec Baldwin, Jon Bon Jovi, Bryant Gumbel, Donna Karan, Lorraine Bracco, former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Walters, and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

ETA is a nonprofit organization founded in 1999 by Tony Bennett and his wife, Susan Benedetto. The organization’s mission is to strengthen the role of the arts in public high school education. ETA currently supports 14 partner schools in all five boroughs of New York City and reaches more than 10,000 public school students, the majority of who live below the poverty line. ETA’s flagship school, the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts located in Astoria, Queens (the birthplace of Mr. Bennett), was founded by the Bennetts and opened in 2001.

Bennett is set to release VIVA DUETS on October 22, a CD featuring Latin recording artists, and The ZEN OF BENNETT, which was created and conceived by son Danny with a theatrical opening in NYC on October 24 (LA, SF, Chicago on November 2). In November, Bennett’s latest book “Life Is A Gift” will be released.

Audio production for the gala was provided by ACIR Professional (Egg Harbor Township, NJ), and included a Yamaha CL5 digital audio console with two RIO 3224-D remote I/Os used at front of house, a Yamaha PM5D-RH used for monitors, and Yamaha T3n amplifiers for monitor wedges. Additional products brought in by ACIR included Shure, A-T, Heil, Neuman and Sennheiser microphones and wireless monitor systems. The company also provided all of the backline instruments. Bennett LD, Ron Farino, designed the lighting for the event.

Long-time Bennett front of house engineer, production manager for the event, and co-owner of ACIR professional had his first opportunity to mix the show on the new Yamaha CL5. An avid fan of the Yamaha PM1D and PM5D, Young said using the CL5 for its compactness certainly made sense based on the footprint allocated for FOH in the Cipriani room. “I was quite pleased about the performance of the CL5 and how well it sounded,” states Young. “The console is very easy to navigate.”

BTX Ensures Patrons at Yavapai Casino Never Miss a Play With Sports Select Wireless Tabletop Speaker Systems

Sports Select TOUCHDOWN! Starter Kit Provides Customers With High-Quality Audio for Televised Games in Cantina Bar and Casino Floor

HAWTHORNE, N.Y. — Oct. 23, 2012 — BTX Technologies, a value-added distributor and manufacturer of interface, integration, and system products, today announced that the company has supplied Yavapai Casino in Prescott, Ariz., with a Sports Select TOUCHDOWN! Starter Kit to provide high-quality audio for games playing on eight different displays.

The Sports Select wireless tabletop speaker system broadcasts up to 16 channels of digital 900-MHz audio from a bar or restaurant’s displays to rechargeable tabletop speakers. Users simply choose which display they want to listen to at their table and the sounds of the game immediately come to life.

The Cantina bar, which is located on the Yavapai Casino property, is equipped with Sports Select wireless tabletop speaker systems with upgraded transmitters featuring remote antennas so that customers can take the audio action with them on to the casino floor.

“Before the Sports Select system, customers in our Cantina could only listen to games on three displays that were tied into our ceiling speakers,” said Ryan Tyson, support technician for the Yavapai Gaming Agency. “Our goal was to not only add value to their experience by providing convenient access to audio from any of our eight displays, but to utilize the same solution to give customers another reason to play in our casino. With the Sports Select system, our patrons don’t have to miss a play, no matter where they are on the property. They simply check out a tabletop speaker and tune in to the game of their choice.”

Easy to install and maintain, the Sports Select TOUCHDOWN! Starter Kit consists of six transmitters offering simple integration with satellite, cable boxes, or displays; twelve speakers; and two charging trays. Instead of the standard starter package transmitters, the Yavapai Casino upgraded to Sports Select’s transmitters with remote antennas, allowing them to extend the transmission distance of the transmitters and use the tabletop receivers from anywhere in the casino. An additional two transmitters were purchased to accommodate all eight TVs in the Cantina.

The Sports Select rechargeable speaker is portable, compact, and can operate all day on a single charge. For Yavapai Casino’s patrons, the 4.5-inch by 8.5-inch speaker offers excellent localized sound quality, built-in volume control, and a channel selector. The compact Sports Select charging tray is table-top or wall-mountable, and can charge six units at a time. In addition, speakers can be charged with an optional power supply.

“BTX really went above and beyond to meet our needs for this project,” added Tyson. “To extend the tabletop speakers’ range to the casino floor, the company upgraded our transmitters. We’ve received great feedback from our customers in terms of ease of use and sound clarity. And now that football season is under way, the speakers are getting checked out at such a high rate that we are already considering purchasing more.”
