The booth will be co-branded Calibre and Kramer Electronics in recognition of the two companies’ strategic partnership launched in 2013.

Immediately adjacent to the main Kramer booth (C7736), Calibre will include an impressive array of real-world applications using the new Kramer Media, Events & Entertainment product range of edge blending, scaling, warping and LED video wall processing equipment – all powered by Calibre’s proprietary scaling technologies. The demonstrations will highlight to InfoComm visitors how easy it is to manage video content across LED displays and projection video walls in the most rugged and high-demanding environments.

Focus on high-performance image processing

Where image quality, precision and fidelity are key, Calibre will demonstrate the benefits of edge-blending across multiple displays and curved projection screens for simulation and training environments, events, conference room applications.

Highlights include the warping and blending controls of the Kramer VP-793 and VP-792 processors at interactive demo stations located around the booth.

There will also be interactive demo stations showing video processing with geometric correction using the 3G-SDI to DVI-HDMI signal processing capabilities of the Kramer VP-791 processor and an interactive demo of Kramer VP-794 pixel-accurate image resizing for LED videowalls.

In each case visitors can come and try out the products and interact with the controls themselves to see how they work.

“The booth this year will enable visitors to gets hands on and try out the Kramer Media, Events and Entertainment range powered by Calibre so they can plan for their future projects and investments,” said Tim Brooksbank, Chairman at Calibre UK.

South Main Baptist Church Transitions to Digital with HARMAN’s Si Performer 3 Consoles

HOUSTON, Texas – South Main Baptist Church (SMBC) in Houston recently upgraded with two HARMAN’s Soundcraft Si Performer 3 consoles, sold through Hairel Sound Enterprises. “Our old analog broadcast and sanctuary mixers started to show their age just as we hired our new music minister, Dr. Carey Cannon. The recordings of his first Christmas services inspired generous gifts towards new replacement mixers with recording capability,” said Douglas Robertson, owner of Citizen Doug Productions, who provided design, installation and training of the Si Performer 3 consoles. “I recommended that we go with the Soundcraft Performer 3, Compact Stagebox with MADI, and Dante cards to connect the mixers and provide multi-track recording support.

To match the strong music culture that includes congregational hymns, pipe organ, a 70-person choir, and guest performances, Robinson installed a Soundcraft Si Performer 3 console at the FOH position in the balcony, and one in the broadcasting room in the basement.

“We looked at mixers in all price ranges,” said Robertson. “Only Soundcraft had the card slots we needed and word clock combined with FaderGlow™ and the flexible channel programming with LED scribble strips. These were important creature features for our all-volunteer operators.”

The volunteers, some who have been serving for 35 years, only had experience with analog mixers. “The Soundcraft Si Performer 3’s interface is so intuitive that we had them mixing to air immediately,” Robertson said. “We tape delay our broadcasts, stream live, and have an active social media effort. We had to get the old mixers out and the new mixers in place without interruption.”

“We’ve just finished our Easter services with no problems and are looking forward to recording projects to teach children hymns and possibly some new ensemble CDs,” Robertson concluded.

HARMAN designs, manufactures, and markets a wide range of infotainment and audio solutions for the automotive, consumer, and professional markets. It is a recognized world leader across its customer segments with premium brands including AKG®, Harman Kardon®, Infinity®, JBL®, Lexicon®, and Mark Levinson® and leading-edge connectivity, safety and audio technologies. The Company is admired by audiophiles across multiple generations and supports leading professional entertainers and the venues where they perform. More than 25 million automobiles on the road today are equipped with HARMAN audio and infotainment systems. HARMAN has a workforce of 14,800 people across the Americas, Europe, and Asia and reported sales of $4.7 billion for the last twelve months ended December 31, 2013.

JOHNSON AUDIO WORKS SUCCESS IS BASED ON QUALITY: DANLEY SOUND LABS SPEAKERS AND SUBS HELP MAKE IT HAPPEN

COMER, GEORGIA: Bill Johnson knows live sound. Before assuming the roles of full-time technical director and chief audio engineer for the massive touring Kenneth Copeland Ministries, where he served for fourteen years, Johnson cut his teeth mixing for acts such as Concrete Blonde, the Dave Matthews Band, Ice T, and Widespread Panic. In 2000, Johnson started his own company, Johnson Audio Works, to marshal that extensive experience for the benefit of clients with small- to mid-sized live events. Recently, Johnson upgraded his rig to Danley Sound Labs, his newfound favorite loudspeakers and subwoofers. Now, Johnson graces clients with improved fidelity and impact delivered by a pair of lightweight but hugely efficient Danley SM-80 full-range loudspeakers and a pair of powerful Danley TH-118 subwoofers.

Most of Johnson’s clients are ministries, government, and community organizations, with a few upscale weddings thrown in for good measure; and three-quarters of the content he is responsible for is spoken word. His audience sizes typically range between 300 and 700 people. After recently relocating from Texas to Georgia, Johnson has developed a closer relationship with the engineers at Georgia-based Danley Sound Labs. “Of course, I was aware of Danley Sound Labs and its reputation – the pro audio industry isn’t so big,” he said. “But the first time I actually heard Danley products, I was hooked.” Part of Johnson’s success is his commitment not just to sound quality, but to the system’s overall appearance and its fine scale details. “I aim for installation quality for temporary events,” he said.

The Northside Jam is an annual event put on by Rick Nunez Ministries in Fort Worth, Texas and serves as an excellent example of the power of Johnson’s new portable Danley system. Last year, Howard Scott, former band leader of the 1970s act, War, headlined and drew 1,500 people to Marine Park. “The guy I hired to run FOH couldn’t believe I was seriously going to cover the event with just two Danley SM-80s for full-range,” Johnson said. “He could understand the two Danley BC-415 subwoofers, which I had on loan from Ivan [Beaver, Danley’s chief engineer]. But I walked in with the two SM-80s, one on each arm. They just don’t look capable of delivering the necessary SPLs. He expressed his concern but totally changed his tune after sound check. Not only were the SM-80s plenty loud enough, the sound quality was outstanding. He said it felt like mixing on studio monitors! That was at 110 feet from the stage, outdoors! I walked back 350 feet and the sound was still natural and balanced. Danley’s high-end output is notable and makes the SM-80 pleasant and effective for both near- and far-field applications.”

He continued, “In my world, it’s hard to find a one-box-fits-all solution, but the SM-80 is it. Not only is the sound quality excellent, the size greatly simplifies my set up time. That’s critical, because the margin on live events is small. I’m able to charge the competition’s rates, but where they have a four or five hour bump in, I’m able to get the job done in just two. Moreover, the Danley system tunes up with almost no adjustment, so I’m able to quickly move on to making things look nice and tending to the client’s requests. I think part of Danley’s success is the fact that everyone in the company has lived and breathed in the live and installed sound industries before. It’s more than just the sound.”

ABOUT DANLEY SOUND LABS Danley Sound Labs is the exclusive home of Tom Danley, one of the most innovative loudspeaker designers in the industry today and recognized worldwide as a pioneer for “outside the box” thinking in professional audio technology.

HPUMC Installs Yamaha NUAGE DAW, CL Digital Console

BUENA PARK, Calif.—Highland Park (Texas) United Methodist Church (HPUMC) recently installed a Yamaha NUAGE Digital Audio Workstation for recording and post work along with a Yamaha CL5 Digital Audio Console for front of house mixing in the sanctuary. Audio DAWg of Irving, Texas installed the NUAGE system, while Mike Mason of Clair Systems – Dallas, installed the CL5. The 900-seat contemporary worship space where the NUAGE and CL5 systems are housed has three services on the weekend with an average of 2,200 attending. The congregation consists of 5,000 who regularly attend five different contemporary and traditional service locations.

AUDIO DAWg began offering DAW systems solutions about seven years ago focusing on turn-key audio recording packages for studios, post, broadcast, houses of worship, and educational facilities. “The NUAGE installation began as a request from Bruce O’Leary, Director of Production at HPUMC,” states owner, Spunky Brunone. “The church installed Dante networking throughout the sanctuary and recording studio, so NUAGE was a perfect solution for them.”

O’Leary first heard about NUAGE via social media and contacted Audio DAWg for a demo at the company’s office. “I wanted a solution that allowed me to mix live and track at the same time while writing automation, and would have enough ‘virtual horsepower’ for generous use of third party plug-ins,” states O’Leary.

“I was super impressed with the workflow the console portion of NUAGE facilitates and the integration of Nuendo’s channel strip (with the basics that I need already inserted on each channel…4-band fully parametric EQ, gate, comp, saturation, etc. And, the fact that it ‘looked’ similar to a live console and had Dante integration, made our decision very easy. No other manufacturer has an option that fit our needs more perfectly!” O’Leary made the jump to the Yamaha NUAGE from ProTools having heard its praises sung by people in Nashville.

The church NUAGE system is a 16-channel unit (8a/8d), with a Yamaha Dante soundcard. “I’m loving what I’m seeing so far, notes O’Leary. The edit functions are all within easy reach in the center of the workspace; very well thought out for real-world work. The surface just feels killer too…again…no one else has anything close to this!”

HPUMC is planning on using NUAGE for their audio for video mix as well as for post-production projects. They have four channels of Rascall Audio V2 mic pre-amps and two channels of Classic API 312DI in a Radial Workhorse rack, with an additional eight channels of Audient that will come into the DAW via the eight channels of AES on the Nio8a8d. “In addition to the great plug-ins Nuendo has out of the box, adds O’Leary, we’ll be using plug-ins from Waves and Universal Audio via an UAD2 Octo PCIe card installed by Audio DAWg.”

As for the Yamaha CL5 digital audio console, it is located at the FOH location in the sanctuary. HPUMC converted the entire room to Dante networking (also running 16 channels of Shure ULXd wireless mics also on Dante) and will soon integrate a LiveMix personal monitoring system using the Dante network for both live and studio use. The church uses four Yamaha Rio1608-D input/output racks along with two Ri8-Ds and one Ro8-D.

“The CL console has more inputs than our previous console with great onboard effects, says O’Leary. The Premium Rack is a really great feature. I have so many options right inside the console I do not have to purchase third party products. The integration with CL Editor and the CL StageMix make it the complete package. Again, I looked at a lot of manufacturers, but kept coming back to the Yamaha CL5 because of its flexibility, feature set, proven durability, and value.”

Church amplifiers are fed from BSS London Blue with Dante cards, for a L/R hang of Clair Brothers i208 line array boxes and five of their dual 18 boxes (two on the floor and three hung center in cardiod pattern), as well as front fills/under balcony areas.
