Martin Audio MLA Mini Lifts Spirits At IDC Church

Chicago, IL––Encompass AV recently installed a Martin Audio MLA Mini loudspeaker system at the Inspirational Deliverance Center Church of God in Christ as part of a major technical upgrade for its 500-seat worship center.

Tim Pickett, President of Encompass AV, explains that his company was chosen because “the church liked the fact that we could deliver a turnkey system with sound, lighting and a video network, the whole package.

“And they insisted on really good sound,” Tim adds. “The church has a very energetic Gospel choir and two Leslie cabinets hooked up to the Hammond organ that really push the audio system to the limits. Plus the worship center has highly reflective surfaces so they needed a system with exceptional output control.

“We specified several systems for them and they chose the Martin Audio MLA Mini because of the system’s state of the art technology and phenomenal sound quality. Also, the coverage had a nice tight pattern to it, and that was a huge selling point for MLA. In fact, we set up a demo and they liked it so much, they bought the demo units!”

The installed audio system includes two four-block MLA Mini arrays driven by MSX mini sub power plants. Two Martin Audio AQ8s provide additional fill with four C6.8T ceiling speakers installed in the low ceiling above the choir as monitors. Two Behringer S16 digital snakes supplement a Behringer X32 digital console with programmable MIDAS preamps.

There are three video displays in the sanctuary, two 80” Sharp LEDs left and right and a 70” Sharp LED facing the choir, with two Sony 1080P PTZ HD cameras driving the video network system. Lighting is provided by 60 Elation LED PAR-style lighting systems with six Elation LED architectural floods.

Asked about the MLA Mini’s performance, Tim enthuses, “I love it. The sound quality is amazing. Everybody that’s heard it comments on how crystal clear it is and the Church is ecstatic about the system.”

Rob Hofkamp, Martin Audio Director of North American Operations adds, “The MLA Compact has already made significant inroads in Church installations and the MLA Mini should also enjoy considerable success in the House of Worship market given its compact size, control and exceptional performance.”

Yamaha Announces I/O Rack For Dante/MADI Conversion

BUENA PARK, Calif.—Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. will launch the fifth in a series of its Remote I/O (Rio) Racks at this year’s AES Convention. The new RMio64-D provides unprecedented capabilities for Yamaha CL and QL Series Consoles as well as NUAGE DAW systems that use Dante networking. The new product enables audio from a CL or QL live sound system to be converted to MADI and fed to an OB vehicle, for example, or a MADI based console can be easily integrated into a NUAGE system for post production.

Word clock synchronization can be an issue when converting between different audio formats, but now with the RMio64-D MADI inputs and outputs feature built-in, sample rate conversion sources with differing word clocks can be connected without causing noise or dropouts. In addition to redundant Dante network connections, the RMio64-D additionally supports MADI redundancy through simultaneous coaxial and optical connections. With the MADI Split (loopback) capability, a signal received at either the coaxial or optical input can now be retransmitted to the output.

On its own or in close integration with other Yamaha products, RMio64-D adds even greater value. The rack can be mounted via the CL or QL console touch screen displays with convenient remote control of Dante patching and sample rate converter settings (future update). Precision synchronization with the NUAGE system Direct Monitoring and VST System Link functions is also provided, as well as remote control from the NUAGE Workgroup Manager software.

“The RMio64-D allows smooth, simple connection between the MADI format and the Dante digital audio networking protocol that is rapidly gaining acceptance worldwide, states Marc Lopez, Marketing Manager, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. Built-in sample rate conversion effectively overcomes word clock synchronization issues that would otherwise limit system design freedom, and extensive compatibility with CL, QL and NUAGE systems, significantly enhancing the value of those products for use in a broad spectrum of sound systems. Tight integration is the key to complete systems solutions offered by Yamaha for our customers.”

A late 2014 availability is expected with a target MSRP of $3,800.

Yamaha CL/QL V3.0 Boast New Features for Broadcast, Live Sound

BUENA PARK, Calif.—Announced during IBC in September, Yamaha CL and QL Digital Audio Consoles will release V3.0 updates available in early 2015.
Version 3.0 adds features and functionality that will increase the appeal of all CL and QL Series models for broadcast applications, including 5.1 panning and monitoring for surround broadcasts, and a newly developed buss compressor that is ideal for insertion in the stereo mix buss.

For live sound applications, V3.0 will add the benefit of a new 8-band parametric EQ and real time analyzer. There will not be a QL Series V2.0 so that the CL and QL Series Consoles will be at the same V3.0 level. CL and QL files are interchangeable, making it easy to choose and combine models to best accommodate live sound front of house and monitoring as well as broadcast relay and recording, from the most basic to large scale applications.

Notable new CL/QL V3.0 features for broadcast include 5.1 Surround Panning.
Pan positioning can be set via the touch panel or knobs. Mix to Matrix can be used for international feed production, and Mix to Stereo can be used for stereo mix down. In addition to surround mixing, CL/QL V3.0 adds basic surround monitoring. Monitor alignment capability is also provided, with adjustment of relative speaker levels and delays.

Also for broadcast applications, Dan Dugan Sound Design highly regarded automatic microphone mixers already included in QL Series is now included in CL Series consoles. Gain distribution for up to 16 speech microphone channels is automatically optimized in real time, achieving smooth, natural level control.

Yamaha R&D has created an accurate VCM (Virtual Circuitry Modeling) model of an acclaimed buss compressor that is relied on in broadcast and recording studios around the world. Buss Comp 369 is ideal for inserting on the stereo mix buss for increased loudness, more uniform levels, and warm overall sound. It is an excellent choice for live sound as well as broadcast applications.

Mix minus, considered important for relay broadcast applications, previously available for CL consoles is now available in the QL consoles. The signal from a specified channel can be easily omitted from a specific bus, making it easy to quickly create a mix for the location reporter, for example, that may not include his/her own mic feed. The new Frame Delay capability enables the audio engineer to delay the audio at the console in order to achieve proper synchronization, a necessity in broadcast and in live applications where video is being used. The feature makes it possible to set that delay in frame increments for easy sync with a wide variety of video formats.

Additional live sound features include an 8-band PEQ in the GEQ Rack and Effect Rack making it possible to select 8-band Parametric EQ in the GEQ RACK and EFFECT RACK. With the real time analyzer (RTA) to support room tuning and other operations, the frequency spectrum of cued channels can be shown in the new RTA display as well as in the PEQ or GEQ display to provide visual feedback while adjusting EQ.

Also of note for the live sound market, V3.0 will now provide four banks of enhanced User Defined Keys, not only reducing the possibility of running out of keys, but it also allows keys to be grouped by function for improved efficiency. DCA Assignment Selection for Scene Management has been added to the parameters for Recall Safe, Focus Recall, and Global Paste. Rather than only being selectable with ALL parameters during scene memory management, DCA assignment is now an independent setting. This allows more refined control, such as specifying only Channel Name, Fader, and DCA Assign to be Recall Safe, for example.

We’re very pleased to brings these additional upgrades that have been requested by our users, states Marc Lopez, Marketing Manager, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. Our loyal sound reinforcement engineers will benefit from several great tools whether they are mixing on CL or the new QL Series as well as a whole new set of amazing features for our broadcast users. In addition to the new features in V3.0, we are currently working on a number of additional refinements that will provide even greater operability and stability and will continue to deliver products and updates that contribute to the most efficient and comfortable working environment for our customers.”

CL/QL V3.0 firmware will be available as a free download from the Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. web site, www.yamahaca.com, in early 2015.

Renewed Vision ProVideoPlayer 2 Delivers High-Impact Multiscreen Presentations for Watermark Church

Dallas-based worship organization enhances services, reduces costs with Renewed Vision software

DALLAS, September 10, 2014
Watermark Community Church, a prominent biblical community with a worship presence in three Texas cities, has chosen Renewed Vision’s ProVideoPlayer 2 (PVP2) to create dynamic, high-impact multiscreen video presentations at its 3,500-seat Dallas worship center. The PVP2 installation is a significant element of a larger technology upgrade, which includes a dedicated fiber network to connect its Dallas location with a 500-seat worship center in Fort Worth; and a third worship center opening in Plano in early 2015.

Les Brown, technical director for Watermark Community Church in Dallas, was seeking a reliable and affordable solution to replace a six-year-old Green Hippo media playback server, which reached end of life and could no longer be upgraded. He researched PVP2 following recommendations from media technicians at other houses of worship and drew on his experience using another Renewed Vision product, ProPresenter 5 softwareimage. Brown notes that ProPresenter has performed flawlessly for years, displaying biblical passages, song lyrics and other media content during services.

“We were confident that PVP2 would perform reliably to foster an inspirational worship experience for everyone,” Brown said. ”PVP2 has played a significant role in our overall upgrade plan, and offers us tremendous cost-savings. It is a fraction of the cost of competing solutions.”

Beyond its reasonable price point, Watermark Church benefits from long-term cost-savings based on its simple configuration and interoperability. Watermark Church has configured PVP2 to run on a Mac Pro, which outputs five video signals to a bank of digital video projectors, including two Christie and three Barco units. PVP2 can be programmed to deliver a different display to each of the five screens or a single display that spans all five screens, as well as a combination of displays in a single presentation.

The decision to buy PVP2 followed a successful software trial that Watermark conducted on Easter 2014. The special musical performance, which featured the house band, soloists, and back-up singers, leveraged PVP2 to project a single video across five separate large displays above the stage. The video, which featured song lyrics, graphics and particle smoke, was created in After Effects to allow the visual elements to use all five screens as if they were one display. Since the band was performing to a click-track, the lyrics would appear on the video in perfect synchronization with the vocalists.

Brown currently controls PVP2 using a Barco FSN router during services, but plans to integrate PVP2 with the church’s DMX lighting control system. This will enable the lighting director to control and synchronize the PVP2 video displays with other staging elements, like theatrical lighting and music, according to pre-programmed cues.

“The Mac Pro’s ability to output five streams at once saves us considerably on additional computer hardware, and we can make the most of our PVP2 investment since the system is easy to maintain and upgrade,” Brown said. “Reliability was a chief concern as we’ll use a DMX lighting board will control the PVP2, and won’t have a second system to cut to in the event of a technical problem. It’s been running reliably since deployment, and we’re confident we can transition to DMX integration.”

PVP2 now sits alongside a professional array of gear across Watermark Church’s infrastructure, including a professional production switcher and multi-resolution broadcast cameras. Viewers can access streaming media of the Dallas worship services at www.live.watermark.org from anywhere using their connected devices.

Stewart Audio Launches Low-Power Networked Amplifier Series

Compact, affordable Dante™-enabled amplifiers bring audio networking benefits to installations requiring lower channel counts for local amplification

SONORA, California, September 4, 2014 — The benefits of digital audio networking continue to extend past the mixing board and signal processing racks, bringing simpler connectivity, lighter infrastructure and improved flexibility and control to the amplification stage and beyond. However, most networked amplifiers today specialize in high channel counts for large installations, with amplifiers centralized in densely populated racks to serve global PA systems.

Stewart Audio today introduces a family of four low-wattage, networked amplifiers that address the need for lower channel count support at the local amplification stage. The new series brings the benefits of power-efficient digital audio networking to an underserved customer base, where consultants, systems integrators, dealers and end users require simple, affordable networked amplifier solutions scaled for smaller zones. This provides an affordable and reliable option to the larger, high-wattage amplifiers for high channel counts that permeate the market.

Importantly, the compact footprint of all four products enables simple installation at endpoints, providing networked amplification to smaller zones – whether for standalone needs in small-to-mid-sized installations; or to provide low-power amplification to smaller, distant zones in larger scale projects. Dual inputs in two models (AV25-2 NET+, CVA50-1 NET+) allow customers to serve both local and global PA systems if desired, with the option to target and prioritize pages and other audio events across many zones. This flexibility ensures that Stewart Audio customers can address larger facility needs while filling the void of local amplification requirements.

“To date, the market has lacked an affordable way to position networked amplifiers at endpoints,” said Brian McCormick, chief marketing officer, Stewart Audio. “Our new family of compact amplifiers create a cost-efficient way to run CAT5 or CAT6 cable to local zones, allowing our customers to enjoy the benefits of digital audio networking beyond the central infrastructure. These products give our customers a simple and affordable way to address a broad range of low power, low channel count applications without the expense of larger networked amplifiers, or the complexity of architecting custom solutions with bridge devices and analog amplifiers.”

Stewart Audio incorporates the market-leading Dante™ media networking solution from Audinate into its product architecture to enable many operational benefits. The incorporation of Dante Ultimo technology in all four products specifically addresses the requirement of affordable networking solutions for lower channel counts and lower power consumption. Compatibility with other Dante-enabled products is also ensured for a seamless, high-performance networking architecture across installations of any size.

Installations are further simplified with the presence of Symetrix Composer 2.0 software. Composer 2.0 software natively integrates device discovery and signal routing all four new products through its unique Dante third-party programming environment. This further reduces complexity for the installer, accelerating deployment times and creating a cohesive end-to-end Dante networking solution with local amplification.

The complete range of new Stewart Audio networked amplification solutions include:
• AV25-2 NET+: A 2x25W, 4 or 8 ohm low impedance amplifier with two analog and two Dante inputs, and remote and local volume control. Automated port switching can override audio feeds depending on which Dante or analog feed is set to priority.
AV25-2 NET: A digital-only version of the AV25-2 NET+ with two Dante inputs.
• CVA50-1 NET+: A 50W, 70/100V mono amplifier with one analog and one Dante input, remote and local volume control, and automated priority port switching to insert local audio feeds over main programs.
CVA50-1 NET: A digital-only version of the CVA50-1 NET+ with a single Dante input.

All four compact solutions can be pole mounted or attached to a flat surface near loudspeakers, and are plenum-rated to reduce the installation costs associated with rack-mounted systems. However, the 1/3RU design enables simple integration into central equipment racks if desired.
