Iconyx Makes it Clear for Knollwood Baptist Church

Winston, Salem, NC – October 2013… In February of 1957, a group of about 80 faithful founded Knollwood Baptist Church, meeting at a local funeral hall until their first chapel was completed in July. More than half a century later, Knollwood’s congregation numbers in the thousands, and their 1000-seat sanctuary offers multiple services each week.

The sanctuary’s modernistic design is truly impressive, with its soaring peaked ceilings, abundant glass, and polished surfaces. But that same design has long been problematic for the church’s technical staff, who have struggled to achieve intelligibility and even coverage in the hall. As Dan Wood, President of High Point, NC-based Church Interiors Audio Video (CIAv) explains, the sanctuary’s recent renovation was an ideal opportunity to finally tackle the audio issues.

“It’s a beautiful space, but very challenging acoustically, and the original sound system just couldn’t provide adequate coverage,” says Wood. “Church Interiors was undertaking a major renovation, and it was a perfect time to rethink their audio system.”

The room’s airy, open architecture presented some significant challenges — particularly the chancel area’s wide design. “The chancel platform extends far into the room, and there was no possibility to hang an array or cluster without impacting line of sight,” says Wood. “Our only viable option was to locate the speakers behind all the open microphones — there was simply no other place to put them.

Consistent coverage was another major concern. Areas on the room’s extremities and up in the balcony suffered from poor intelligibility. Since the balcony is also home to the house mix position, this was particularly important to address.

With no option to substantially alter the room’s architectural and acoustical character, the solution clearly had to be found within the audio system design. With this in mind, CIAv selected Renkus-Heinz Iconyx digitally steered column array loudspeakers, placing a single IC24-R-II on either side of the chancel platform.

“The Iconyx allowed us to create multiple sound beams and steer them to the seats on the floor and balcony levels, while steering them away from the walls and windows and other reflective surfaces,” says Wood. “It also enabled us to provide focused coverage to the mix position up in the balcony.”

Wood reports response to the new system has been overwhelmingly positive. “With just two Iconyx columns, we’ve got consistent coverage and intelligibility everywhere in the room.”

ICONYX Delivers For New State-Of-The-Art International Terminal at LAX

Los Angeles, CA – October 2013… When the Port of Los Angeles began construction on the new, expanded Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX three years ago, there was an unspoken understanding that the new structure would have to be an architectural tour-de-force, and a befitting ‘first impression’ for this iconic international city.

Indeed, anticipation turned to pride when the stunning new terminal was unveiled at a special commissioning ceremony on February 18th. Among the attendees were past and present Los Angeles mayors, along with airport officials, and the joint design team from Fentress Architects and HTNB Corporation.

Expansive and airy in design, the new terminal greets international travelers with a bright, open floor plan, high ceilings, and enough glass to pull in the welcome glow of southern California’s most ample natural resource.

With its towering walls and abundant reflective surfaces, the Fentress and HTNB teams knew early on that the new space would present some unique acoustical challenges. They turned to Whittier California-based VSA Associates, an acoustical consulting firm with more than 20 years’ experience and a client list that includes Hilton Hotels, Caltrans, and Arizona State University.

What VSA’s design team created was a sophisticated system based around ICONYX digitally steerable arrays from Renkus-Heinz. As Michael Kalmanson, Vice President at VSA Associates, explains, “the ICONYX systems allows us to direct sound exactly where we needed it to be, while avoiding difficult reflective surfaces or wasting energy outside of the listening areas.”

The new International Terminal features 14 ultra-modern gates with facilities to accommodate today’s larger, trans-oceanic aircraft like the Airbus A360 and Boeing 747-B. A combination of IC16 and IC8 arrays are deployed throughout the terminal, all fully concealed within the structural detailing. “We selected IC16s or IC8s, depending on ceiling height and how far we needed to throw the sound,” says Kalmanson.

But the undeniable crown jewel of the new terminal is the 150,000-square foot, $1.9 billion Antonio R. Villaraigosa Pavilion, home to premier dining, shopping and relaxation services, along with an equally impressive AV information hub.

“At 80 feet high with tons of glass, the pavilion was one of the more challenging spaces,” admits Kalmanson. “We opted for the ICONYX IC16 arrays there, and then dialed in the multiple steering lobes to target individual listening areas while ensuring that sound didn’t splash into the aisles or up onto the walls.”

Kalmanson continued, “The ability to define multiple steering lobes from a single array is one of the most compelling aspects of the ICONYX system—especially for a job like this. You can literally steer a portion of the array down 30 degrees, the next part down 15 degrees, and the final portion straight out. It’s extremely sophisticated equipment that offers an amazing amount of control.”

Pulling everything together for the expansive new terminal is a multi-zone paging system from Innovative Electrical Design [IED], which synchronizes the massive flight information displays and PA systems throughout the pavilion and terminals. The IED system combines the audio into zones for easy operation and adjustment during heavy traffic times.

“In most places, the ICONYX arrays are assigned to their own paging zone, but in some instances we combined multiple arrays into a group zone,” says Kalmanson. “Each zone is tuned perfectly for the space. We even have ambient noise compensation, which automatically raises or lowers the output depending on crowd noise.”

Hawthorn, CA-based Direct AV handled installation duties. Working closely with the architects, Direct AV ensured a highly finished installation, with minimal visual impact. As a result, all ICONYX arrays are flush mounted into existing structural elements throughout the terminal, with only their grills visible to visitors.

While Kalmanson comfortably credits the power of the ICONYX system as an essential ingredient in the successful design, he also notes the support provided by Renkus-Heinz directly.

“I simply don’t know of a better product for jobs like this than ICONYX,” he concludes. “But I’m also pleased that Renkus-Heinz was so involved, from modeling the spaces in EASE, to ensuring that we had exactly what we needed to meet our schedule from start to finish. I couldn’t be happier.”

Journey Holds Onto That Feeling with HARMAN’s JBL VTX Line Arrays

NORTHRIDGE, California – Legendary rock band Journey recently completed a series of concerts with HARMAN’s JBL VTX line arrays, powered by Crown I-Tech HD 12000 amplifiers. The VTX system was deployed for five performances, including two with Rascal Flatts (with a system provided by Sound Image) and other dates in Lake Tahoe, Aspen and San Francisco.

According to Jim Yakabuski, Journey’s front of house engineer, the band has few stipulations when it comes to its sound. “Journey is pretty hands-off for the most part,” Yakabuski said, “although they do ask me to keep the low end off the stage, so I try to keep the subwoofers from folding back onto the stage and keep the stage nice and clean.”

Journey’s latest tour started in June 2012, touring with Clair Global and their I5 loudspeaker system. This summer, Journey didn’t carry PA as there were many festivals and “one-off” shows, enabling Yakabuski to listen to the latest and greatest line array technology on the market. “I have to say that loudspeaker technology has really come a long way the past few years,” he said. “The VTX system was definitely one of the best we used this summer and we had five great shows with it. It wasn’t a problem at all keeping the low end off the stage with VTX.”

“The VTX system has a very nice clean and crisp high end,” Yakabuski added. “The whole midrange to high-end seemed really coherent and held together. There was also plenty of power, so we had no problems there.”
According to Yakabuski, a major advantage of VTX is how good it sounds right out of the box. “We used the JBL HiQnet Performance Manager™ software as well, which allowed us to take the low-end frequency response all the way down in the main V25 loudspeakers,” he said.

All in all, the five shows with the VTX system were a tremendous success. “[Clair System Engineer] David Quigley and I would like to thank [Plus 4 Marketing members] Keith Erickson and Jim Mathews, Alchemy Concert Systems [who provided the audio system in Aspen], as well as [Technical Support Lead, Tour Sound, JBL Professional] George Georgallis. They all put a lot of effort and time into making sure the system was set up properly. It makes it so much easier.”

Starlight Express With MLA Compact at Bochum Stadionring

Martin Audio’s MLA (Multi-cellular Loudspeaker Array) system changed the sonic landscape around the globe this summer—providing an acoustic experience and uniting the audience at premier festivals, concerts and outdoor events, and permanent installations as never before.

For promoters and production teams, MLA enabled them to meet traditional challenges head on for the first time. The multi award-winning system’s ability to provide uniform coverage right across the soundfield was matched by its scientifically proven reduction of offsite spillage and noise pollution to well within local authority thresholds.

With MLA’s ability to sonically ‘map’ a site—optimizing audience areas and ‘hard avoiding’ objects that might create reverberation or slapback—it has rapidly become a go-to system for promoters and local authorities alike.

There was no finer example of the award-winning system’s powers than at AEG Lives’ Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival at Hyde Park, featuring the Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi.

Historically dogged by offsite noise pollution and neighborhood complaints Hyde Park had become a political hot potato. Thus new tenants AEG/Loud Sound acted accordingly.

Jim King, AEG Live Events director, explained, “We wanted to manage the whole process dynamically without having to turn [volume levels] down. We needed to set a system in place that would deal with the issues.” And with the Martin Audio MLA (of which King already had experience) Capital Sound provided the solution.

Thus just two weeks after The Killers had played to their largest audience ever through this system at Wembley Stadium, MLA headed across London to Hyde Park to demonstrate that the advance level of control would maintain an offsite level beneath the stipulated 75dB(A) threshold, raising the infield levels by as much as 6dB from previous years to around 100dB(A).

The low volume level had previously been the subject of audience complaints but the mandate set by Martin Audio and Capital Sound was to unite the audience in a single shared experience, with no compromise on sound levels.

It was the same story at the National Heritage-owned Kenwood House in Hampstead—another London landmark site traditionally blighted by neighborhood complaints until Cap Sound’s MLA came along.

But it has not only been at high profile music events that MLA has taken star billing. Believing system ownership would be a passport to securing greater local authority work, site service specialists WE Audio recently invested in an MLA Compact system and during the summer fielded it at events ranging from the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta to Bournemouth Air Show. With its ability to control offsite sound, WE Audio’s Wayne Barker is convinced that it will soon be adopted by local authorities.

Word about MLA and its groundbreaking claims have quickly migrated and its reputation has stretched far beyond British shores. The Japanese market, for one, has fallen in love with the system. MSI Japan fielded several systems that performed to no fewer than 177,000 people at Rock In Japan, while the mighty Hibino Sound has also purchased a system. Managing director, Ryoichi Hashimoto, confirmed that it would offer the same panacea. “We decided on the MLA investment because the promoters of summer outdoor festivals are increasingly demanding the absence of delay towers from festival sites and a need to solve offsite noise issues,” he said.

While Delicate Productions’ full MLA was out at the BottleRock Napa Valley Festival in California, 3G Productions equipped the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) dance festivals in New York, Chicago and Las Vegas—including a Martin Audio MLA. With eight of the world’s Top 10 DJs, and more than 200 acts performing on seven stages for over 350,000 attendees at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, MLA provided the power and coverage they needed inside the venue while controlling noise spillage to surrounding residential areas.

In addition to successful deployments of Martin Audio MLA and MLA Compact systems at a growing number of corporate and special events, On Stage Audio (OSA) of Chicago, Las Vegas and Nashville recently equipped the pavilion stage at Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, IL with MLA, the first new PA system at North America’s oldest music festival in a decade.

SES (Special Event Services) of Winston Salem and Nashville recently supported the popular Avett Brothers on the first U.S. leg of their world tour with an MLA System 36. RMB Audio relied on an MLA Compact system to unite the audience with exceptional sound and coverage while preventing noise spillage at the Red Hat Amphitheater located within the city limits of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Nor have the worlds of classical music or top quality musical theater missed out. RG Jones continue to delight orchestras (as well as audiences) at the Raymond Gubbay Classical Spectaculars with MLA while the German production of Starlight Express celebrated its 25th anniversary at Bochum’s Stadionring by commissioning a permanently installed MLA Compact sound system to handle “the fastest musical in the universe”—with the full approval of Sir. Andrew Lloyd Webber!

But Martin Audio is far from a one-trick pony. The globally renowned Glastonbury Festival saw Martin Audio on duty at the main Pyramid Stage for the fifth consecutive time—but this time it was with the far-throw characteristics of the Martin Audio W8L Longbow line array system, which had proven itself outdoors at stadiums on the Take That tour the previous summer.

With visiting artists and sound engineers so complimentary about the W8L Longbow system last time Glastonbury was held, sound company RG Jones were comfortable that it would again meet all compliances and propagation tests set forth by the acoustics consultants and organizer Michael Eavis, and satisfy the vast crowds at the same time.

Sports Authority Field at Mile High Reaches New Heights with HARMAN’s JBL Professional Loudspeakers

NORTHRIDGE, California – Denver’s legendary Sports Authority Field at Mile High recently opened its 2013 season with high expectations for its resident NFL franchise, the Denver Broncos. Now, with a brand-new HARMAN’s JBL loudspeaker system, Broncos fans can also expect world-class audio quality, whether they’re sitting on the 50-yard-line or anywhere else in the stadium.

Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Parsons Electric installed the new audio system, which was designed by Dallas, Texas-based Wrightson, Johnson, Haddon and Williams, Inc. (WJHW). The upgraded system included a retrofit of the stadium’s scoreboard loudspeakers, as well as wholesale changes to the bowl loudspeakers.

“We pulled every speaker out of the bowl and scoreboard and replaced them with substantially larger speakers with more modern horns and better dispersion,” said David Potts, Field Engineer, Parsons Electric. “The previous system wasn’t bad, but it was really thin and it was dated, so they didn’t have an abundance of coverage and output.”

“The driving force behind the replacement of the audio system was the installation of new scoreboard and video displays along with addition of a full ribbon display on the fascia of the club level,” said Mark Graham, Associate, WJHW. “This fascia was previously the home of the loudspeakers that covered the lower deck and field side seating and as such, could not remain. The redesign added many new loudspeaker locations to the system, but since many of the existing locations were already wired with 10AWG cable, we reused most locations to make the best use of available budgets. We did have to step outside of our normal palette of design tools and use some custom-built loudspeakers to provide the required performance and sound coverage from these ‘pre-wired’ locations.”

Parsons Electric installed a total of 18 JBL loudspeakers flanking the scoreboard: 10 PD5342, six PD5212 and two AM5212 loudspeakers. The new bowl system now features 61 PD5342/64 loudspeakers, each paired with a JBL custom-made AL6212-WRX low-frequency loudspeaker. Every PD Series loudspeaker enclosure is treated with JBL’s WRX extreme weather protection.

“We did some steering to couple the low frequencies of the AL6212-WRX with the PD5342 loudspeakers,” Potts added.

The suite level now features 52 JBL custom-made CSMHS-DH12 weatherized loudspeakers, which each contain a 100-volt transformer. The suite level also features 26 AL6212-WRX weatherized devices.

Under the deck and upper bowl, 36 JBL CSAW-266 and CSAW-211 loudspeakers exist between “tusks” or large, forked beams.

With the Broncos off to a strong start and the new audio system in place, Broncos fans have good reason for excitement. “We now have a lot more SPL and the sound throughout the whole stadium has much more presence,” Potts said.

“Sports Authority Field at Mile High has the loudest crowd of any NFL stadium that I have been involved with and provides the backdrop for the high SPL products selected from the JBL Professional line as well as the custom loudspeakers used,” Graham concluded. “After the first two regular season games, both wins for the Broncos, the system is meeting our design expectations and more importantly, those of the fans!”

Renkus-Heinz ICONYX Brings Clarity to Beirut Parliament

Beirut, Lebanon – October 2013… The tall, domed central hall of the Lebanese Parliament building in Beirut has long been known as an acoustically challenging environment. But after many years and numerous attempts, a recent renovation has brought the building’s rogue reverberation under control, bringing clarity and high intelligibility to the iconic space with Renkus-Heinz Iconyx digitally steered array loudspeakers.

The building, designed in 1931 by Beaux-Arts architect Mardiros Altounian, is believed to be on the site of the Roman Forum of Berytus, where the Roman School of Law stood before being leveled by the great earthquake of 551 AD. During Lebanon’s civil war, the structure suffered considerable damage, and its renovation is a symbol of the vision involved in the reconstruction of Beirut city center.

The parliament building’s architecture, in particular the dome, has long presented challenges with reflectivity and poor speech intelligibility — certainly a major drawback for any debating chamber.

Today, the building is a blend of heritage architecture with a modern interior complete with contemporary high-tech amenities, including a pair of Iconyx steerable arrays specified and installed by system integrators Mac Audio sarl. Mac Audio specified Iconyx, using its beam steering capabilities to focus audio beams on individual seating areas and away from the roof and walls. The project proved an interesting and enjoyable audio challenge, said Nader Arzouni, General Manager of Mac Audio. “We deal with all the Lebanese Republic’s government departments,” he said proudly, “including the Prime Minister’s office and parliament buildings.”

The ground floor’s main area, with seating for 165 including 128 deputies, is covered by two Iconyx IC8 columns, with a pair of IC7 mechanically steerable units for the  president’s podium. Two IC16s serve the balcony level, where up to 100 guests can be accommodated.

Two Shure feedback eliminators, one for the balcony and another for the main hall, a Crest Audio rackmount mixer and a single XTA DP448 controller to add even more flexibility to the main floor’s IC8s, complete the system. A final touch was the provision of Renkus-Heinz SGX41 compact cabinets for the Prime Minister’s residential palace.

As the technical skills of the system operators can vary widely, Mac Audio preset the system so that very little adjustment is needed, making life as simple for them as possible.

“It’s all very good,” said Nader Arzouni, “a very flexible, modern system that has completely eliminated all the old intelligibility issues and delivered crystal clear sound that parliament is delighted with.”

VARIA Delivers for Bethany Wesleyan Church

Cherryville, PA – September 2013… From their 80-acre campus in this close-knit eastern Pennsylvania town, Bethany Wesleyan Church combines an inspirational, contemporary worship style with a broad mix of community programs including sports, education and family oriented activities. With a dedicated and rapidly expanding congregation, Bethany Wesleyan recently took the wraps off their new 1600 seat sanctuary and multipurpose room, equipped with a custom designed sound system based around the versatile Renkus-Heinz VARIA modular point source line array.

“The church wanted a space that would be versatile enough to accommodate everything from worship services to concerts and even sporting events,” explains Allen “Doc” Nagle of Orwigsburg, PA-based Events Staging. “It’s essentially a gymnasium with a stage at one end and removable seating.”

As any systems designer can attest, multi-purpose rooms often present some of the most challenging audio environments, and Bethany Wesleyan was no exception. The room’s high, open ceilings and concrete and sheetrock walls could have been a potential nightmare. But as Nagle explains, “thanks to good communication with the architect during the planning phase, we were able to take steps to reduce standing waves and reflectivity.”

For the sound system, versatility was key. The system needed to keep the sound tightly focused on the room’s key listening areas, which could change via a variety of room configurations. It also had to accommodate a wide range of program material, from spoken word to different types of musical content.

“The VARIA system was perfect because it provides the best options for placing sound exactly where you need it in the room, as opposed to spilling it all over the place,” says Nagle. “The VARIA’s transitional waveguide allows you to vary the horizontal coverage from the top of the array to the bottom, which was perfect for shaping the coverage pattern off the reflective surfaces.”

The system comprises left and right hangs, each with five VARIA VAX101 series cabinets. Horizontal dispersion varies from 60 degrees at the top of the array, increasing incrementally to 120 degrees at the bottom. A center fill of two VARIA 90 degree cabinets adds a bit of psychoacoustical enhancement. Eight PNX212-SUB subwoofers are bunkered, four per side, into the face of the stage. An Avid VENUE Profile at the front of house position handles the mix, while four CFX121M wedges provide onstage monitoring.

“The VARIA made all the difference in this installation,” adds Nagle. “It allowed us to easily pinpoint exactly where the sound should be in the room while avoid any unwanted interactions. It sounds amazing.”

An ancillary chapel and cafe incorporate the Renkus-Heinz IC7-II steerable array, with a pair of PNX212 series subwoofers providing a solid bottom end. Ashly Audio NE2424m matrix processors handle speaker management for the entire facility while providing a selection of easily recalled presets for the church’s all volunteer crew.

Visual impact is equally impressive, with three 16,000-lumen projectors firing at three, 20-foot screens positioned left-to-right across the back of the stage.

Finally, multiple HD PTZ and manned cameras and a Pro Tools system capture weekly services for distribution on DVD, with plans already in place to expand into Internet streaming and live broadcast.

With the system up and running, Nagle is pleased that his team was able to strike such an effective balance between usability and performance, while placing the church on a solid foundation for future growth.

“This is a really dynamic and active congregation,” he concludes. “They’re looking to entice national worship tours, as well as setting the stage for broadcast and streaming. The combination of the VARIA and Avid systems ensures them a level of sound quality and technical capability they’ve never had before. I’m confident they’re set for many years to come.”

Rock for Oklahoma Benefits from HARMAN’s JBL and Crown Concert Audio System

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma — Oklahoma City’s Chesapeake Energy Arena recently hosted Rock for Oklahoma, a benefit concert for Oklahoma tornado victims that featured Kings of Leon, The Flaming Lips, Jackson Browne and Built to Spill. Concert audio was provided by Oklahoma City live sound rental contractor Miller Pro Audio (www.millerproaudio.com). Owner Danny Miller and his crew, FOH Engineer Nick Walsh, Systems Engineer Aaron Oliver, and Systems Tech Kip Montgomery provided the PA with a system comprised of HARMAN’s JBL loudspeakers and Crown amplifiers. Proceeds from the event benefitted the United Way of Central Oklahoma May Tornadoes Relief Fund.

The system utilized for the concert included 18 JBL VERTEC® VT4889 fullsize line array elements per side for the mains, plus 12 VERTEC VT4888 midsize line array elements per side used for out fill. Side fill was provided by three VT4888 elements and four VERTEC VT4880 fullsize arrayable subwoofers per side. In addition, 36 JBL SRX728 2×18” subwoofers supplemented the system’s low end. All loudspeakers were driven by Crown I-Tech 9000 HD and I-Tech 12000 HD amplifiers.

Although the Chesapeake Energy Arena has an installed house PA system, the Miller Pro Audio team decided not to tie into it for the event, which drew more than 15,000 people. “The VERTEC arrays were more than capable of covering the venue adequately,” explained Oliver.

In deploying the VERTEC system, the crew had to deal with a number of large, hard surfaces such as signage that was located throughout the arena. In addition, because of its physical location it proved impossible to hang any speakers from a large video screen.

Oliver was able to avoid any unwanted echoes from the large, reflective surfaces and work around the video screen by using the JBL Line Array Calculator II V1.2 system setup software to determine the physical placement of the line arrays to achieve optimum coverage. He noted that the VT4889 and VT4888 are extremely versatile in their ability to achieve the best-possible coverage angles, even in difficult architectural situations like the Chesapeake Energy Arena where the arrays could not be hung in all of Miller’s preferred locations.

VER Tour Sound Perfectly Captures the Essence Music Festival with HARMAN’s JBL VTX Line Arrays and Crown I-Tech HD Amplifiers

NORTHRIDGE, California – For the 19th year, the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans hosted some of the biggest names in pop, R&B and hip-hop music, including Beyoncé, Maxwell, New Edition, Keyshia Cole, LL Cool J and Jill Scott. For the main stage in the Superdome, VER Tour Sound (VER) provided a massive HARMAN JBL VTX line array system powered by Crown I-Tech HD amplifiers.

With a ceiling height of more than 250 feet above the front-of-house position and a total volume of 125 million cubic feet, the main space in the Superdome posed some formidable acoustic challenges. “The Superdome is such a reverberant space that we had to not only ensure that we were able to cover such a large area, but that we were able to do so while tightly controlling the dispersion to ensure even coverage throughout the space,” said Jason Vrobel, System Engineer for VER Tour Sound.

The PA system on the main stage featured 18 JBL VTX V25 fullsize line array elements per side for the main arrays, with an additional 18 V25 elements on each side for side fill (hung at 45-degree angles relative to the main arrays), rounded out by another 12 V25 elements per side for rear fill (hung at 90-degree angles). For the low end, VER hung 16 VTX S28 subwoofers per side in a cardioid configuration behind the 45-degree angled arrays, along with 12 ground-stacked VTX G28 subwoofers per side. For center fill, VER hung left-right arrays of five VERTEC® VT4889 fullsize line array elements each, with six VT4887A compact line array elements on each side for front fill. The delay system featured a total of 24 VT4889 loudspeakers in four columns of six each.

No less than 154 Crown I-Tech HD amplifiers powered the system, with I-Tech 4x3500HD amplifiers assigned to the high and mid frequencies and I-Tech 12000HD amplifiers powering the lows and subwoofers. The system was controlled via JBL HiQnet Performance Manager™ software.

“We had a lot better of an outcome than I anticipated considering how reverberant the Superdome is,” Vrobel noted. “I attribute that to the VTX system and the support we received from HARMAN to help us properly configure the system and achieve uniform sound throughout the entire dome.”

“The VTX system and the Crown amplifiers performed incredibly well—the producers from the festival told me it was the best it had sounded in the festival’s 18-year history,” Vrobel said. “The support I received from [Senior Manager, Tour Sound, JBL] Paul Bauman, [Applications Engineer, JBL] Jay Fullmer and [Business Developer, Tour Sound, Crown] Eric Friedlander was fantastic and we’ll be working together a lot in the future.”
