California church upgrades with EV’s Phoenix loudspeakers

crosswordchurch_2009_001.jpgCrossword Christian Church in Riverside, Calif. recently upgraded its sound system on a massive scale, replacing the systems in its sanctuary, courtyard, and children’s wing with an assortment of Electro-Voice equipment from CBC Technical, Inc. (Murrieta, Calif.).

Crossword’s new sanctuary system comprises five Phoenix PX2152 boxes in a flown left-center-right configuration (including a central cluster of three) with two Phoenix PX2181 subs on the ground at stage left and right, with Dynacord VL262s compact double-six-inch, two-way loudspeakers as delays. The system is powered by EV’s CP4000S amplifiers. Chris Batchelor, Sales Manager for CBC, comments:

“This is a Gospel church, and the system they had in there could not keep up with the volume they required. We came to the conclusion that Phoenix was the best option to get the SPL that the church was looking for, with dual drivers more

Electro-Voice sound for Indiana University of Pennsylvania

iupui_july09_001.jpgGeorge P. Miller Stadium, home of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) (Indiana, Pa.) Crimson Hawks, recently received an upgrade to its sound system with Electro-Voice Sx series loudspeakers provided by Edward Simon & Co (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and installed by Doug Varner Sound Company.

Edward Simon & Co., commercial AV systems specialists for nearly 35 years, has performed more than 700 design/installations at stadiums, arenas, shopping malls, and TV studios, resulting in a résumé that reads like a who’s-who of some of the United States’ most recognizable venues, including Jacobs Field, Verizon Center, Mellon Arena, Nationwide Arena, Heinz Field, and Gund Arena. Though relatively small in comparison, the new EV sound system at 6,500-seat George P. Miller Stadium demonstrates that precise audio coverage and intelligibility can be scaled to installations of all shapes and sizes, given the right equipment. Ed Simon, owner of Edward more

Thus, its library of loudspeaker systems includes, not only the company’s self-powered line array modules with built-in inclinometer (LX-V8 and LX-F6 with accordion-folded ribbon HF driver), but also models from its PHASE or ADP lines.

Jesús Fuentes, National Sales Director, comments: “Customers need to model a complete system. Generic software is OK if only a single array is used. In practice, however, fill systems are usually required. One must also examine what’s happening in the horizontal plane, not just vertically. So the only way to provide a more

JBL LSR Studio Monitors Help Eddie Kramer Bring The Sound Of Woodstock To The Next Generation

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of arguably the most significant musical event in history, Warner Home Video has released “Woodstock: 40th Anniversary—Ultimate Collector’s Edition? on Blu-Ray disc. The release features a re-mastered director’s cut of the original film, including many previously unreleased performances. Legendary producer/engineer Eddie Kramer, who engineered the original recordings that captured the 1969 event, was called by Warner to mix this wealth of previously material. For the project, Kramer relied on a 5.1 JBL LSR6300 studio monitor system to bring the tracks to life in Capitol Records Studio C control room.

According to Kramer, “The original recording during the festival was pretty scary in the sense that there was no communication between the stage and myself in what was essentially a tractor-trailer,? Kramer said. “We had to mix everything on the fly, so the first song in each set was basically an experiment in identifying where more
