The Golden Hall is more than just a concert venue; it also hosts numerous lectures and public readings. Because it handles so many types of public events, there is a need for a high-quality sound system that is met with four channels of the AKG WMS 400 wireless system. A more

SENNHEISER LEADS THE WAY FOR THE LOVE WILLOWS

the_love_willows.JPGOLD LYME, CONNECTICUT – AUGUST 2009: The Love Willows are on a mission to at once rediscover the joyous elements that have been lost in modern pop music and defy the conventions of the genre. A couple in every sense of the word, lead vocalist Hope Partlow and guitarist/vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Ryan Wilson blend retro hooks with a modern sensibility that is unabashedly upbeat. Their enthusiasm onstage is infectious, and they convey their bubbly craft through Sennheiser wired and wireless microphones and personal monitors ensuring the tight, charismatic, easy-going performances for which The Love Willows are earning a reputation.

Their debut album on Decca records, “Hey! Hey!” features many more instruments than just vocals and guitar, and the duo bring that support with them on the road using prerecorded tracks. As a result, the stage setup is fairly simple for FOH/monitoring engineer Jacob Orr. “Both more

FAT POSSUM RECORDS GOES LIVE WITH THE SLIM SENNHEISER MKH 8040

bruce_watson.JPGOXFORD, MISSISSIPPI – AUGUST 2009: Fat Possum Records formed amongst the juke joints and shade trees surrounding Oxford, Mississippi in the early 1990s, and made local blues legends RL Burnside and Junior Kimbrough famous. Their fame synergistically raised the label’s profile and attracted other established and aspiring acts to its growing roster. Over the course of the ensuing decade, the older bluesmen passed on and the label shifted focus to indie rock acts like Andrew Bird, Fiery Furnaces, and The Black Keys. That evolution also involved the label’s recording space, which recently arrived at a pinnacle of poetic perfection: a gutted, 130-year old house with the grit of life still resonating in its frame. The two recording sessions so far completed there made abundant use of another recent acquisition: a pair of Sennheiser MKH 8040 cardioid studio condensers that, label manager and in-house producer, more
