Hope Presbyterian Church Grows With Shure

hope-church-interior1.JPGCORDOVA, TN, July 16, 2008—Like many houses of worship, steady growth at Hope Presbyterian Church in this Memphis suburb has been the underlying factor in construction decisions culminating in the recent addition of 5,000 more seats. The results of the addition of an entirely new structure housing supplemental sanctuary space, the expansion draws upon 18 channels of Shure UHF-R ® wireless to meet the equally increasing audio needs of a congregation that regularly assembles to hear major touring artists, experience full-scale holiday pageants, and turn out its own video productions. more

DAY 2 TURNS INTO DAY 3—Just when you think you’ve seen and heard it all, My Morning Jacket shows up at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, TN on Friday, June 13th and roars through two lengthy sets finally coming to raucous halt around 5 A.M. the next day. Along the way fans grooved to songs from the band’s forthcoming album, Evil Urges, listened to covers of Sly and the Family Stone and Erykah Badu, laid witness to guest spots ranging from Metallica guitarist Kirk Hemmett to comedian Zach Galifianakis dressed as Annie, and duly noted that frontman Jim James still prefers a hardwired Shure SM58 mic over anything else.

ROOTS REVIVAL—Robert Plant and Alison Krauss drew one of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival’s largest crowds this year with a stirring set including material from their debut collaboration Raising Sand. Plant kicked things off minus Krauss with a backing band featuring T-Bone Burnett. Things took a progressively country turn when Krauss stepped onstage, adding her ethereal vocals and signature fiddle sound to songs including “Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us.? “Welcome to our little world,? Plant told the crowd. “It’s a great pleasure to bring this gift.? Shure hardwired microphones were used by both artists, an SM58 for Plant and a Beta 58 for Krauss.

Space Shuttle Orbits With SM11

Space Shuttle Discovery SHURE SM11 MICROPHONE GOES INTO ORBIT

When Space Shuttle Discovery lifted off on May 31, a Shure SM11 microphone went along for the ride, just as it has for years, but it wasn’t used in a conventional manner as most microphones are used, however.

The SM11 is part of a system that collects samples of exhaust gases from the Shuttle orbiter’s propulsion system aft fuselage area to sense any gas leaks in the plumbing. During ascent, an SM11 Microphone mounted inside a system electronics box, picks up the sound generated from the orbiter propulsion area at launch. Its output signal controls equipment that triggers a sequencing of pyro-valve devices that enable air samples to enter each of 6 vacuum bottles at various times during the ascent. The collected gas samples are later analyzed after the orbiter returns to Earth. Having this data can save maintenance and inspection hours. more
