The Mobile Quote app uses many of D-Tools’ workflow concepts, including the specification of locations and systems, which allows integrators to provide packages or pre-configured systems for inclusion in the quote. Labor and general pricing will be calculated to give the customer an accurate proposal, which can then be signed off for approval on the spot.

Christie’s Book of Transformation Celebrates Projection Mapping Around World

Christie® has published and released The Book of Transformations – a ‘coffee table‘ style book that explores and celebrates how artists and technicians are using powerful projection display technologies to visually transform familiar structures and objects.
The Book of Transformations provides key visuals, core plans and technical details on scores of projection mapping projects done around the world using Christie projectors and complementary enabling technologies. It is available as a free downloadable app across multiple platforms, a PDF file and as a limited release hard copy publication.

Through more than 70 case studies, readers learn how giant office buildings, ancient temples and churches, landmark towers, bridges, performance stages and even athletic playing surfaces have been re-imagined and truly transformed using ‘light paint’ and the creative genius of event producers and artists.

Projection mapping involves creating an accurate, virtual version of a structure, and then using powerful professional-grade projectors to transform the characteristics of that structure using painted light and motion graphics.

The tablet version of The Book of Transformations includes images, embedded video and detailed narratives of how various structures and surfaces were mapped, recreated in software, and then given entirely new appearances using powerful projected light. The Book of Transformations also traces the history of the art form, provides an extensive primer on how projects are conceived and executed, and looks at the future of the technology and medium.

The free tablet app is available on Apple’s App Store for iPads and Google’s Play Store for Android tablets. A non-interactive PDF is also available free of charge, allowing all the showcases and supporting material to be readily viewed on other tablet devices, as well as PCs and laptops.

The book follows the early 2013 release of Christie’s ‘The Book of Shapes,’ which explored the projects and possibilities of the Christie’s groundbreaking Christie® MicroTiles® modular displays.

FUX PRODUCTIONS TAKES METRIC HALO PLUG-INS AND INTERFACE THROUGHOUT THE FRENCH COUNTRYSIDE

LYON, FRANCE – APRIL 2014: Still remarkably early in his career, Julien Collier wears many hats as a musician and sound engineer. He is a multi-instrumentalist, a composer, and an arranger; he is a sound designer, a producer, and a director; he is a recording engineer, a mix engineer, and a mastering engineer; and he is a live tech, a FOH engineer, and a monitor engineer. On the side, he works as a music coach and artist developer! Collier borrowed his alias, Fux, for the production house he established in Lyon, France. Fux Productions contains a recording studio, a composing studio, and a rehearsal room, along with Collier’s extensive industry connections. Clients have access to professional musicians of all stripes, composers, sound engineers, producers, videographers, and more. Across all those wide and varied activities, Collier relies on his Metric Halo 2882 interface and Metric Halo plug-ins for almost everything. They are his pro audio equivalent of a Swiss Army knife!

Collier’s list of clients includes many French independent labels, as well as majors such as Sony, Universal, and Warner. A few of his most recent studio projects include work with Romain Ughetto, Chasing After Time, 99 Ways to Die, and Green Money. For all of those projects, he served as producer, tracking engineer, mix engineer, and mastering engineer, and on many of them he also helped with composition and performance. “A lot of important decisions are made during the tracking,” he said. “It is critical to get the recording into the computer in the best way possible because once it becomes digital, it stays digital. I use my Metric Halo 2882 for everything. It has excellent preamps and flexible input and output routing. It’s just as useful in the studio as it is on stage, where I often use the 2882 to mix in-ear monitors. The software and hardware is very stable, and I am comfortable using it live without a problem.”

Collier’s appreciation for the 2882 made him curious about Metric Halo’s other products and inspired him to get the company’s Production Bundle, which is a complete collection of Metric Halo plug-ins. “Like the 2882, the Production Bundle is now completely integrated into my workflow,” he said. “I use Metric Halo plug-ins on everything and in every situation. They are very flexible and allow me to handle everything from subtle track correction to creative coloration and effects. I use ChannelStrip 3 to clean up my tracks with equalization, compression, and filtering. I love that the plug-in has a great deal of precision – when I adjust a parameter, I really feel it directly. The Character plug-in models different signal paths and gives me a great sound that I use all the time. I use two variants of HaloVerb on most of my productions, which combine together nicely without using a lot of DSP resources. I use the Precision DeEsser on all my vocals and on other shrill instruments, like keyboards or hi-hat. Finally, I use the Transient Control on all of my percussion and drum tracks which gives me fine-grain control of dynamics, attack, and power. It’s also often useful on acoustic and electric guitars and is a lot more reactive than other plug-ins of its type.”

Air Protect Case for Chromebooks

The Air Protect Case for Chromebooks allows users to work directly from the case without having to remove their Chromebook, laptop or netbook, which minimizes the risk of damage to the device. The MFi Program is a licensing program that encompasses third party hardware accessories using Apple’s licensed technology to connect electronically to iPhone®, iPad® or iPod®. Autoscript Launches WinPlus Remote

Unique, mobile teleprompting system brings speed and accuracy to field operations

TWICKENHAM, UK
Autoscript, part of Vitec Videocom, a Vitec Group company, has announced the launch of WinPlus Remote, an iOS-based teleprompting system that delivers up-to-date scripts to users in the field, anywhere in the world. The technology is also suited to remote news bureaus and smaller newsroom operations.

When WinPlus Remote is installed on a networked PC in the production facility, the latest version of the script can be seen by journalists on location, as well as in the studio. The software enables the script to be automatically uploaded to an FTP site where it can be downloaded onto an iPad by talent in the field and kept constantly updated. WinPlus Remote, developed by market leader Autoscript, works in conjunction with an iOS app, picoPrompt, and is supplied with a hand control.

“There have been iPad prompting apps on the market for some time,” says Robin Brown, product manager, Autoscript. “However, the link to the newsroom has been missing, which effectively means that there is no access to live, updated scripts on location. Now, with WinPlus Remote, field talent can quickly and easily download the latest script from the FTP site by simply connecting their iPads to the network.

“This brings both speed and efficiency to remote staff, as well as increased accuracy. Instead of having the director conveying the script changes via an ear piece and a journalist having to manually make the changes, this system allows them to refresh the script with the click of a button. In this way they will always have the latest version of the script on their iPad, allowing them to focus on the task at hand, such as reporting on breaking news.”

The WinPlus Remote system is ideal for use in applications where news is being updated constantly, such as sports reporting. It is also suited for use in locations where a prompting system with full camera unit and software products isn’t available or practical. In addition, WinPlus Remote can be used as an add-on in facilities where other prompting software systems already exist.

“You don’t need to be a current WinPlus user to benefit from WinPlus Remote,” adds Brown. “If a newsroom is running other prompting software, WinPlus Remote can be used in parallel. It effectively runs in the background and enables technicians to take the same script as their current prompting solution and upload it to the FTP site where the field talent can access it.”

The system is therefore also ideal for smaller news operations with limited budgets as it is a cost-effective alternative to a full software system.

WinPlus Remote is being officially launched at NAB in April and will be available from Autoscript. picoPrompt can be downloaded via the Apple App Store.
