Visual Unity Bring Video On Demand To Turkish Viewers

Leading multimedia solutions provider Visual Unity has helped Turkish company Calinos Entertainment to deliver a complete Video on Demand service.

Based in Istanbul, Calinos Entertainment was established in 1997 as a content distribution company supplying television and film programmes to service providers and channels. With Visual Unity’s expertise, the company has now expanded its operations to deliver a Video on Demand service directly to their subscribers on any screen or connected device.

Visual Unity provided Calinos Entertainment with the technology needed to deliver its new service. The technical infrastructure is based on Visual Unity’s award-winning vuMediaTM Over the Top (OTT) content solution that allows broadcasters to manage, monetize and monitor delivery of content to multiscreens.

Tomas Petru, CEO of Visual Unity, says: ““Visual Unity won this contract on the basis of our proven expertise in multiscreen integration. With over 20 years’ experience in architecting, building and technically supporting linear broadcast to multiscreen solutions we demonstrated to Calinos Entertainment our ability to successfully deliver VoD solutions similar to customers such as voyo.cz, cinema.cz and TopFun.”

Visual Unity’s vuMedia™ platform supports comprehensive VoD services and integrates with billing and CRM processes. For this project, Visual Unity provided a content management system with GUI and API access, DMR protection, software to play back and control video content on the web, analytics, delivery and support for mobile devices.

In addition, Visual Unity also helped the broadcaster to build a feature-rich VoD portal that contains thousands of films, dramas and popular television programmes. This Cloud-based service allows Calinos Entertainment to publish its content online, thus alleviating the need to build an expensive, in-house and resource-intensive media library.

“Monetization is not just about selling your content – it is about building business awareness and a communication strategy around your brand,” adds Gabriel Dusil, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Strategy at Visual Unity. “We are confident that by using our proven vuMedia™ technology Calinos Entertainment can now deliver a cutting-edge viewing experience to its audiences on any screen or connected device.”

NAB2013: Vizrt Introduces Virtual SloMo and Motorsports to Viz Libero 5.5

See us in Las Vegas, April 8th – 11th 2013. Booth SL3305

During live sporting events, broadcasters go to great lengths to enrich the viewing experience with slo-mo replays, telestration, and in-game graphics to explain controversial and key plays. While these effects often require placing costly or complex broadcast cameras and calibration devices around the stadium or hiring specialized services, Viz Libero gives viewers this sameinsight by processing existing video.

Virtual SloMo

At the 2013 NAB Show, Vizrt will present the new features and workflow improvements in Viz Libero 5.5, its 3D virtual sports enhancement and analysis system. Viz Libero 5.5 now offers Virtual SloMo, which uses an advanced image-based algorithm to generate ultra-slow motion (up to 1500 fps) footage rather than relying on high-speed camera systems. Virtual SloMo and other Viz Libero 3D replay tools can be used on any live camera image or remote video feed.

Grass Valley K2 Summit / Dyno Integration

Viz Libero 5.5 adds integration with the Grass Valley K2 Summit media server and K2 Dyno replay system, both of which are widely used in studio and remote sports production environments. It also improves integration with the entire Vizrt product family, including Viz Engine 3.6 for real-time 3D graphics and video compositing. This enables customized graphics to be rendered through a Viz Engine for greater creative control, inserting virtual presenters into the analysis clips, and the ability to present analysis scenes on interactive touchscreens.

New support for Motorsports, tennis, cricket and other sports

Viz Libero 5.5 adds in-game 3D virtual sports toolsets geared to motorsports, tennis, cricket, field hockey as well as Australian football. The system already supports many others, such as football, American football, ice hockey, baseball, basketball, and volleyball.

New and improved effects

Viz Libero has been enhanced by many new in-game effects which help viewers to understand the different sports. These features include, among others, height measurement, ball impact, blocking wall, player grow, or zone focus. Many of the Viz Libero features, such as player marker, labels or offside and 3D wall, now have a customization interface within Viz Libero.

The Virtual Run that animates player movement, one of the big innovations in 2012, has received improvements. Besides simpler handling of the Virtual Run, new elements like a strobe effect have been added.

An existing feature, the 3D Ball Track, can now be created with only one camera feed. This makes the feature faster, and more readily available, even for studio productions with only one multilateral camera signal.

Improved workflow tools

File-based workflows, including video file ingest and output, are also improved for simplified studio integration. Viz Libero 5.5 expands supported output formats to include: Apple RLE/MOV, DNxHD/MOV, and DVC Pro 100/MXF.

The new version also adds a visual editor timeline, which accelerates post-editing of analysis clips. The timeline provides a graphical overview of the playlist including all recorded annotations and tracks so operators can edit and synchronize any graphics, 3D flights, or other elements.

With these latest 3D sports analysis features, tools, and workflow improvements, Viz Libero 5.5 enables broadcasters to enhance their live sports shows with greater creative latitude and cost-efficiency.

RTW TM3-3G TouchMonitor to Make its NAB 2013 Debut

Unit Features 3G-SDI Interface, Eight-Channel Level and Loudness Instruments

LAS VEGAS, APRIL 4, 2013 — RTW, a leading vendor of visual audio meters and monitoring devices for professional broadcast, production, post production and quality control, is exhibiting at NAB 2013 (Booth C1844) its TM3-3G TouchMonitor. The TM3-3G seamlessly allows the TM3’s current hardware and software design to visualize, convert and replay 3G SDI signals in TV and video production and post production applications, offering a feature set unrivalled in its class. Attendees will also have the chance to win one of three TM3-3G or TM3 units that RTW will be raffling off during the show. A winner will be chosen live at the booth at 5 p.m. local time, on Monday, April 8; Tuesday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 10. Participants are encouraged to be in attendance each day to win.

The TouchMonitor TM3-3G is a compact yet versatile solution for metering, de-embedding and monitoring 3G SDI audio. It features a 4.3-inch touch screen for horizontal as well as vertical orientation, which can display any of the eight audio channels contained in a 3G-SDI stream. For that purpose, it includes a large number of graphical and numerical instruments showing single-channel and summing loudness bargraphs, PPM, true peak, SPL, loudness range (LRA), dialnorm and correlation. The TM3 offers comprehensive loudness metering in compliance with all globally relevant standards (EBU R128, ITU BS.1770-2/1771, ATSC A/85 and ARIB). It also features the Magic LRA mode, specifically designed by RTW, for intuitive visualization of the loudness range and integrated-loudness parameters.

If equipped with the corresponding software license option, the integrated de-embedder also outputs up to 16 audio channels from the 3G-SDI signal on eight AES3 two-channel ports. The output signals are independent from the visualized audio. In addition, the TM3-3G can be upgraded with a built-in monitoring controller license. This uses an on-screen fader for output-volume adjustment, a stereo output and phones out. The optional timecode license expands the feature set of the TM3-3G to allow external or SDI timecode signals to be decoded, displayed and used for additional functions.

The intuitive operating concept of the TM3 allows for quick and easy selection of presets that can be configured using RTW’s Devicer DC1 software (available for Mac OS X® and Windows®). Using custom presets, the user can easily switch between the various sources, loudness standards and instrument layouts. The configuration software allows users to freely scale and place the required instruments virtually anywhere on the screen.

Sound Devices Highlights New 4:4:4 Feature for PIX 240 And 240i at the 2013 NAB Show

Video Recorders Can Now Record 12-Bit, 4:4:4 Content to Apple ProRes 4444

LAS VEGAS, APRIL 4, 2013 — For attendees in search of the latest 4:4:4 recording solutions, Sound Devices showcases its latest upgrade to PIX 240 and PIX 240i Production Video Recorders at the 2013 NAB Show (Booth C2849). This new major update, available for all PIX customers free of charge, offers Apple ProRes 4444 recording from video sources over 3G-SDI (4:4:4 RGB or YCbCr). Recording 4:4:4 offers productions superior color precision for applications in chroma-keying, color-grading and multi-generational editing.

PIX 240 and 240i users now have the ability to record into Apple ProRes 4444, which offers impressive quality with 4:4:4 sources and workflows involving alpha channel transparency. With its 12-bit, 4:4:4 capability, the PIX 240 and 240i can record 330-Mbps Apple ProRes 4444 files that are perceptually indistinguishable from the original source material. Popular cameras with 4:4:4 capable outputs include the ARRI ALEXA, Canon C500 and Sony F3.

“Sound Devices is pleased to feature this latest firmware update at NAB, as we know this is an important feature to many of our users and we foresee this capability being a hot topic at this year’s show,” says Paul Isaacs, Technical Development Manager, Sound Devices. “Bringing Apple ProRes 4444 recording over 3G-SDI to the PIX 240 and 240i offers additional color accuracy available in a 4:4:4 environment—reinforcing the PIX recorder as a master-grade production recorder suitable for the most demanding production applications.”

Additional features available in this latest v3.0 firmware update include time-code and recording status displays on the SDI and HDMI outputs, up to 500 ms of audio delay to compensate for multi-device picture delay, and selectable 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 video output independent from the source material.

Users can connect PIX 240 and 240i to cameras with HD-SDI, 3G-SDI, or HDMI and record directly to QuickTime using a range of different Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD codecs, including Apple ProRes 4444. Since PIX recorders use ProRes and DNxHD, files recorded in the field can be used directly in post production, making for simpler, faster workflows.

The PIX 240i’s high-performance five-inch, IPS-based LCD display is an accurate field monitor, providing users with immediate confirmation of framing, exposure, focus, audio metering and setup menu selections. It offers excellent color accuracy and contrast, great off-axis visibility and accurate motion tracking.

The built-in hardware scaler and frame rate converter allows PIX to output and record material at different resolutions and frame rates than supported by the camera. Conversion between HD and SD, with and without anamorphic conversion, is available.

The audio circuitry of the PIX recorders is based on Sound Devices’ award-winning 7-Series digital audio recorders. The low-noise (-128 dBu EIN), high-headroom, high-bandwidth inputs are mic/line switchable and include limiters, high-pass filters and phantom power.

The HDMI-only PIX 220 and PIX 220i video recorders also gain new features available in the new version 3.0 update, including Apple ProRes 4444 recording, time-code and recording status displays on HDMI outputs, and up to 500 ms of audio delay to compensate for multi-device picture delay.

Sound Devices, LLC designs and manufactures portable audio mixers, digital audio recorders, and digital video recorders and related equipment for feature film, episodic television, documentary, news-gathering, and acoustical test and measurement applications. The fourteen-year old company designs and manufactures from their Reedsburg, Wisconsin headquarters with additional offices in Madison, WI and Highland Park, IL. The fully dimmable IS3c is a wide, high-output soft light with built-in controls for adjusting color temperature, color correction, and Zylight’s Color Mode, which produces millions of colors without gels or filters.

“We’ve made some software improvements, but the big difference our customers will see is the Chimera softbox as part of thepackage,” said Charlie Collias, senior vice president, worldwide sales. “The IS3c is great for many setups, but some beauty shots require the diffused uniform light you get from a softbox. That’s where this new standard configuration really shines – the new IS3c provides the versatility to handle studio cyc wall washing as well as productions where a large soft light source is needed.”

Zylight will also unveil an optional travel case for its compact Z90 LED light. Available in DV, ENG, and DP configurations, the new case features custom foam cutouts for secure storage of the Z90 and its accessories. The versatile Z90 can instantly switch between daylight and tungsten, and offers full Color Mode output with separate hue and saturation control.

After showing a proof of concept at the NAB Show last year, Zylight will formally introduce its 2013 F8 LED Fresnel in tungsten (3200K) and daylight (5600K) versions. For easy transport and storage, the rugged F8 collapses to less than four inches thick. It is also water resistant (IP54 rated) for use in challenging environments, and can be powered by a worldwide AC adapter or standard 14.4V camera battery. The fully dimmable F8 is also equipped with an eight-inch SCHOTT glass lens, maintains traditional Fresnel beam shaping, and offers a patented focusing system for spot and flood operations.

To help introduce the F8, two invited speakers will share their shooting experiences at Zylight’s NAB booth. On Monday, April 8, at noon, Boston-based DP Tom Guilmette will discuss how the new Zylight F8 performed in the unforgiving weather conditions at the top of Mount Washington. Matt Kearney, vice president of Fastec Imaging, will show how his company’s ultra-portable TS3Cine high-speed handheld camera works with Zylight’s flicker-free LED lights on Tuesday, April 9, at 1 p.m.

Zylight will also debut new lower pricing at the show. The new IS3c with custom softbox has an MSRP of $2,699, while the Z90’s MSRP has been reduced to $935. The new custom Z90 travel case has an MSRP of $279 and will be available in May. The F8 has an MSRP of $2,400 and will ship in June, but NAB attendees can receive a $200 rebate on all F8 orders through May 15.
