Stewart Audio Launches Low-Power Networked Amplifier Series

Compact, affordable Dante™-enabled amplifiers bring audio networking benefits to installations requiring lower channel counts for local amplification

SONORA, California, September 4, 2014 — The benefits of digital audio networking continue to extend past the mixing board and signal processing racks, bringing simpler connectivity, lighter infrastructure and improved flexibility and control to the amplification stage and beyond. However, most networked amplifiers today specialize in high channel counts for large installations, with amplifiers centralized in densely populated racks to serve global PA systems.

Stewart Audio today introduces a family of four low-wattage, networked amplifiers that address the need for lower channel count support at the local amplification stage. The new series brings the benefits of power-efficient digital audio networking to an underserved customer base, where consultants, systems integrators, dealers and end users require simple, affordable networked amplifier solutions scaled for smaller zones. This provides an affordable and reliable option to the larger, high-wattage amplifiers for high channel counts that permeate the market.

Importantly, the compact footprint of all four products enables simple installation at endpoints, providing networked amplification to smaller zones – whether for standalone needs in small-to-mid-sized installations; or to provide low-power amplification to smaller, distant zones in larger scale projects. Dual inputs in two models (AV25-2 NET+, CVA50-1 NET+) allow customers to serve both local and global PA systems if desired, with the option to target and prioritize pages and other audio events across many zones. This flexibility ensures that Stewart Audio customers can address larger facility needs while filling the void of local amplification requirements.

“To date, the market has lacked an affordable way to position networked amplifiers at endpoints,” said Brian McCormick, chief marketing officer, Stewart Audio. “Our new family of compact amplifiers create a cost-efficient way to run CAT5 or CAT6 cable to local zones, allowing our customers to enjoy the benefits of digital audio networking beyond the central infrastructure. These products give our customers a simple and affordable way to address a broad range of low power, low channel count applications without the expense of larger networked amplifiers, or the complexity of architecting custom solutions with bridge devices and analog amplifiers.”

Stewart Audio incorporates the market-leading Dante™ media networking solution from Audinate into its product architecture to enable many operational benefits. The incorporation of Dante Ultimo technology in all four products specifically addresses the requirement of affordable networking solutions for lower channel counts and lower power consumption. Compatibility with other Dante-enabled products is also ensured for a seamless, high-performance networking architecture across installations of any size.

Installations are further simplified with the presence of Symetrix Composer 2.0 software. Composer 2.0 software natively integrates device discovery and signal routing all four new products through its unique Dante third-party programming environment. This further reduces complexity for the installer, accelerating deployment times and creating a cohesive end-to-end Dante networking solution with local amplification.

The complete range of new Stewart Audio networked amplification solutions include:
• AV25-2 NET+: A 2x25W, 4 or 8 ohm low impedance amplifier with two analog and two Dante inputs, and remote and local volume control. Automated port switching can override audio feeds depending on which Dante or analog feed is set to priority.
AV25-2 NET: A digital-only version of the AV25-2 NET+ with two Dante inputs.
• CVA50-1 NET+: A 50W, 70/100V mono amplifier with one analog and one Dante input, remote and local volume control, and automated priority port switching to insert local audio feeds over main programs.
CVA50-1 NET: A digital-only version of the CVA50-1 NET+ with a single Dante input.

All four compact solutions can be pole mounted or attached to a flat surface near loudspeakers, and are plenum-rated to reduce the installation costs associated with rack-mounted systems. However, the 1/3RU design enables simple integration into central equipment racks if desired.

Rock Band Squint Records Extraordinary Kickstarter Album With HARMAN’s AKG Microphones and Headphones

AUSTIN, Texas – Taking advantage of new opportunities in the music industry, alternative rock band Squint recently transitioned from touring across the nation to recording an album funded through Kickstarter. Despite the shift in priorities, the band always relies on HARMAN’s AKG microphones and headphones to produce the reference sound they aim for.

Squint used to perform over 200 nights per year, building a considerable following in the process. Hoping to keep up with its audience in the digital era, the band turned to studio recording projects to put out more quality content. It is a daring move that succeeded, thanks to crowd funding and reliable equipment.

“Over the last couple years, people’s attention spans have become shorter, moving to the next thing quicker,” said Dane Adrian, lead vocalist for Squint. “We lost touring, our mainstream income, but thanks to our fans on Kickstarter, and AKG microphones and headphones, we were able to bounce back and make better music in the studio.”

Thanks to the overall quality and endurance of AKG equipment, Squint employs it on the road and in the studio. Adrian used an AKG WMS4000 wireless system with a D5 microphone on the road, while the rest of the band used the C414 and the D40 microphones for guitars, the C451E microphone for the overhead drums and the D12 microphone for the bass drum in the studio and during live performances.

“As for the headphones, I love the AKG K171 MK2s, because its sound is so true,” said Adrian. “It sounds clean and clear, and that is why I consider them my reference sound for both the studio and home.”

Transitional phases for well-established artists are intimidating to say the least, and when asked how Squint managed to adopt new practices without losing its fan base, there was only one word that came to mind: loyalty.

“Ten years ago, I didn’t consider myself a rock star, but when I reached out to AKG, they listened. No matter how far I was from home, I’ve been well taken care of,” said Adrian. “It was clear that AKG was a brand that I would like to be loyal to, in the same way our fans have been loyal to us throughout the entire process. Just like our fans, AKG cares about the connection with artists, and the music they want to make.”

HARMAN (www.harman.com) designs, manufactures and markets premier audio, visual, infotainment and integrated control solutions for the automotive, consumer and professional markets. With leading brands including AKG®, Harman Kardon®, Infinity®, JBL®, Lexicon® and Mark Levinson ®, the Company is admired by audiophiles, musicians and the entertainment venues where they perform. HARMAN has a workforce of approximately 16,000 people across the Americas, Europe, and Asia and reported sales of $5.3 billion for the twelve months ended June 30, 2014.

Fairlight Showcases 3D Audio Workspace at IBC 2014

At IBC 2014, Fairlight will showcase 3D Audio Workspace (3DAW), a new platform for immersive and object oriented 3D Sound Production.

Aimed at the film and television post production market, 3D Audio Workspace reinforces the industry’s drive for the ultimate in cinematic and immersive sound delivery by providing a comprehensive and diverse environment for 3D audio production.

“Fairlight has always had a reputation for pushing the boundaries of technology, but even by our high standards 3DAW is one of the most exciting products we have launched in many years,” says Tino Fibaek, Fairlight’s CTO.

One of the features that make 3DAW so unique is AirPan – a brand new concept that allows operators to use a Virtual Reality (VR) style input to position and control images in a 3D space.

“This feature is incredibly cool because you can literally reach out into the airspace monitored by the controller and by just moving your fingers in the air, you can pan, rotate, tilt and spread your sound in space,” Fibaek adds.

Fairlight’s 3DAW adds immersive sound capabilities to an existing digital audio workstation, whilst remaining fully compatible with an established workflow. This open platform configuration support VST® and RTAS® plugins, as well as ASIO® for I/O and sync sharing.

“The philosophy behind Fairlight’s 3DAW is to give sound mixers a post production solution that works with all platforms,” Tino Fibaek adds. “Different deliverables require different technologies, so Fairlight’s immersive platform provides the best of both worlds, supporting object orientated implementations such as Dolby’s Atmos and DTS’ MDA and fixed bus formats in 2D and 3D, from stereo through to 5.1 and all the way up to NHK’s impressive 22.2 format.”

Fairlight has ensured post production facilities can easily connect to their studio workspace. Integrated, user definable B-chain processing supports up to 34 discrete speaker outputs allowing sound mixers to switch instantly between different surround formats, different speaker sets, speaker muting and soloing and comprehensive metering.

For more information about Fairlight’s 3D Audio Workspace and other innovations in the Fairlight range, please visit us at IBC 2014 – Hall 7, Stand H17. Or visit the company’s website –www.fairlight.com.au
