B.M.C. Audio Introduces New Generation of Power Amplifiers

The AMP M2 Delivers High-End Reproduction that’s Natural,
Neutral and Transparent Plus a Wealth of Exclusive Features

GESEKE, GERMANY, Feb. 2013 — Balanced Music Concept (B.M.C.) Audio, a developer and manufacturer of high-performance, high-value audiophile components, introduces the AMP M2 Mono Power Amplifier at the recently completed International Consumer Electronics Show.

The AMP M2 delivers exceptional musical reproduction consistently, purely and transparently. Listeners experience only unbridled power and music’s finest details, without any intrusion of the amplifier itself. Perfectly balanced, the AMP M2 runs cooler than traditional Class A designs, and silently. Its musical dynamics remain constant for every volume level, and without compression. It also exhibits no signal path feedback on the theory that it’s better to avoid distortion from the start than to try correcting for it later.

The AMP M2 possesses a surprisingly powerful dynamic vitality for its relatively compact size, an 88-pound weight that only begins to suggest its exceptional build quality, an elegant design, and three of B.M.C.’s exclusive advances, and a very affordable price given its superb performance and broad use of high-quality materials. The channel separation produced by two separate AMP M2s cannot be surpassed.

B.M.C.’s exclusive innovations include its Load Effect Free (LEF) technology, Digital Intelligent Gain Management (DIGM), and Current Injection (CI) technology. They ensure listeners only experience the amplifier’s power and music’s finest details.

The M2 delivers 200 watts into 8 Ohms, and 380 watts into 4 Ohms with a frequency response of 1Hz – 200kHz (at 1W). A fully regulated power supply with a massive 2-kW toroidal transformer and balanced current capacitors contribute background silence and rock-solid stability.

LEF technology raises speaker output, the quality of the AMP M2’s audio reproduction, and the amplifier’s efficiency. It achieves these by handling speakers’ current demand separately from the voltage demand, relieving the Class-A transistor of all duties other than providing perfect signal reproduction.

DIGM technology is a volume and amplification control that lets listeners adjust left/right output balances in 1-decibel increments by setting the M2’s gain on B.M.C.’s DAC 1 Digital-to-Analog Converter. The DAC 1 optically transmits the value to the M2. This avoids unnecessary input-signal attenuation and excessive amplification, contributing to a more natural musical quality. As a result, DIGM eliminates the need for a preamp circuit, avoids excessive gain, and allows direct connection to a DAC. Additional benefits include a very short signal path, low noise, and the ability to reduce noise further by reducing volume.

CI technology further increases signal purity and the immediacy of the M2’s musical reproduction. It does this by processing a signal source’s current until it attains the desired loudspeaker output voltage, replacing, as a result, any gain stage by an original signal. Combined, B.M.C.’s LEF, DIGM and CI technologies draw listeners into a new world of tonal experience.

The AMP M2 exhibits the modular construction and massive build quality typical of B.M.C. components, with a sturdy aluminum chassis for housing and the finest components available for the electronics. Large Power and Volume buttons and an easily read Power Meter enhance the front panel.

On the rear panel, balanced XLR and XLR-CI inputs, unbalanced RCA inputs, one pair of speaker outputs with gold-plated binding posts, and an AC power connection help the AMP M2 take advantage of its many technologies.

The AMP M2 Mono Power Amplifier is available now from authorized B.M.C. Audio dealers at a suggested price of $7,990 (U.S. MSRP).

Jünger Audio Introduces the V*AP Voice Processor at NAB 2013

Dynamics specialist Jünger Audio will use the NAB 2013 platform (Booth C2333) to give US broadcasters their first view of V*AP, a brand new two channel voice processor that is specifically designed to make life easier for engineers working in radio stations and TV production voice-over studios.

V*AP, the latest addition to Jünger Audio’s award-winning *AP family of products, draws on the company’s extensive experience with previous Voice Processing devices such as its v-series, but adds new tools and algorithms to create a new, easier and more efficient approach to voice processing with no compromise in sound quality.

V*AP’s main task is to offer perfect control of microphone recordings but Jünger Audio has also included processing such as HP/LP filtering, dynamic section, full parametric EQ and de-essing. All of the V*AP functions can be easily performed, making it hassle free for any journalist or reporter to use. Jünger Audio has also provided a dedicated voice leveler combined with a voice over circuit to help integrate voice programs into loudness-based broadcasting on the fly. Using the optional SDI I/O card automated voice over for embedded audio becomes an attractive feature of the V*AP.

Available as either an insert into a mixing desk or as a stand-alone unit, V*AP offers interfaces that allow integration in existing environments via an AES insert. The unit can also be used with an optional analogue board that adds two high quality mic-preamps.

Another key feature of V*AP is the inclusion of Spectral Signature™, Jünger Audio’s automatic spectral sound management algorithm that dynamically boosts and attenuates frequency bands to preserve natural balance while achieving station sound. With Spectral Signature™, users can automatically analyze the ideal recording of their voice (direct or over telephone lines) and easily create pre-defined sound fingerprints that become the reference the algorithm matches to on all subsequent live recordings.

At NAB 2013, Jünger Audio will also show its ground-breaking M*AP audio loudness processor, which combines an audio monitor controller and a loudness measurement device in one unit, thus providing comprehensive quality control and loudness monitoring for anyone working in a production or broadcast environment.

Designed for quality checking surround (5.1) and/or stereo programs, M*AP can be used for live monitoring and also to ensure compliance with today’s standards and regulations (ITU 1770/1/2/3, ATSC A85 or EBU R128).

The unit comes with alarm signals that alert the operator when pre-set loudness thresholds are exceeded, and these signals can be delivered by simple GPOs and/or SNMP traps, which carry actual loudness values. Loudness measurements can be performed over a long run or over a fraction of a program, or both. These measurements can be triggered by automation systems via GPIs or via the network – or even manually by buttons of the X*AP remote panel.

Alongside loudness measurements, M*AP also offers functionality for acoustical QA. It has eight speaker outputs that allow for A/B checking of stereo compatibility of a surround downmix through alternative speakers, as well as via L/R front speakers.

Peter Pörs, Managing Director of Jünger Audio, says: “By incorporating 3G, HD and SD auto detection, M*AP gives users the option of dealing with all 16 channels of SDI embedded audio at the same time. This means that you can listen to one program while permanently logging the loudness of two (5.1 +2 mode) or four (4×2 mode) programs. It is also possible to send further embedded programs to M*AP’s AES outputs to feed a third party instrument for analyzing and/or display.”

For no extra cost, the M*AP’s SDI board acts as an embedder as well and comes with video delay to compensate for any kind of audio delay. This feature is ideal for those looking to maintain lip sync in QA suites or control rooms. M*AP also features a built-in Dolby® Metadata generator and an optional Dolby® decoder that allows users to decode Dolby-E, Dolby-D (AC-3) and Dolby Digital plus (E-AC-3).

Jünger Audio will complete its NAB line-up with the Award-winning T*AP TV Audio Processor and Loudness Logger, a powerful tool that offers customers of all Jünger Audio levelling processors an easy way to monitor the development of the loudness over time. Using this new software, broadcasters can monitor in real time or by analyzing previously stored loudness log files. This innovation is critical as all broadcasters now need to show precisely how their audio levels are performing in order to comply with new legislation on Loudness.

If you would like more information about these products please visit Jünger Audio at NAB 2013 – Hall C, Booth 2333 for a demo.

CAPITAL SOUND HIRE AND WIGMAN FIRST IN UK WITH NEXO STM SERIES

London-based Capital Sound Hire has become the first UK company to take delivery of a NEXO STM Series system, and Wigwam Acoustics has confirmed its purchase of a STM modular line array system, after two years of involvement in its development by both companies.

The initial STM touring range incorporates three elements; the M46 Main cabinet, B112 Bass cabinet and S118 Sub-bass cabinet, which allow users to build systems for audiences from 200 to 100,000. “With profit margins being squeezed, it’s crucial for the success of rental companies to get the maximum flexibility from their inventories,” continues Capital’s Paul Timmins. “Prep costs money, and this system only requires configuration between projects, with no rebuilds necessary.”

The scalability of STM held great appeal for Capital, whose projects range from 10 people at small corporate events to stadium and outdoor shows for 60,000 plus. “What has become evident is that most current loudspeaker systems require you to stock up to four sizes of line array boxes to cover the variation in room sizes,” says Timmins. “Often, during the winter months, an entire inventory of large format loudspeakers can sit idle while there is a shortage of small and mid-sized cabinets. The concept of STM is amazing, with true multi-use options for all components including the amplifier racks. System designs can take into consideration not only room limitations but also musical content. It’s a fantastic addition to the tool box.”

Capital, which will ultimately own a 48-box system an inventory of 48x M46 Mains, 48x B112 Bass and 48x S118 Subs, is initially planning to introduce the components on small-scale events. This will ramp up during summer 2013 to larger projects that will allow engineers to get to grips with its full capabilities. “NEXO has been a great company to work with,” concludes Timmins of the STM project. “They have a fantastic R&D team and they also know where all the best restaurants are!”

In STM terminology, Wigwam’s package is 48 sets: 48 x M46 main cabinets, 48 x B112 bass cabinets and 48 x S118 sub bass units. The system specification is identical to that ordered by Capital Sound. The main criteria for the new system, according to Wigwam’s Chris Hill, was, “will it sound good, will it be flexible, and quick to rig? NEXO engineers really listened; STM is scalable, and we can use it for many different applications instead of it just being able to do certain types of work. We’re hopeful that this will give us maximum utilization of our stock.”

Extron Expands HDMI Distribution Amplifier Lineup

Extron HDMI DA SeriesExtron Electronics is pleased to introduce two new, larger HDMI distribution amplifiers as part of its HDMI DA Series product line. The HDMI DA4 with four outputs, and HDMI DA6 with six outputs, are HDCP compliant and support HDMI specification features including data rates up to 6.75 Gbps, 12-bit Deep Color, 3D, Lip Sync, and HD lossless audio formats. They also support HDTV 1080p/60 and PC resolutions up to 1920×1200. For ease of integration and reliable operation, the HDMI DA Series features two Extron-exclusive technologies: EDID Minder®, which maintains continuous EDID communication between connected devices, and Key Minder®, which continuously authenticates HDCP encryption between all devices, ensuring the simultaneous distribution of source content to connected displays. The HDMI DA Series is ideal for applications that require the distribution of an HDMI source signal to multiple displays.

“The Extron HDMI DA2 has fast become a favorite of AV integrators, and many have asked for the same robust feature set in larger sizes,” says Casey Hall, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Extron. “The new HDMI DA4 and HDMI DA6 are designed for the demands of commercial AV integration in larger system designs, while maintaining the same ease of setup and installation found in all of our HDMI products.”

To enhance and simplify integration, the HDMI DA Series offers integrator-friendly features, including automatic input cable equalization, automatic color bit depth management, and selectable output muting, as well as indicators for monitoring and troubleshooting. Input cable equalization restores and reshapes incoming HDMI signals, reducing the need for additional signal conditioning equipment by compensating for weak source signals or signal loss from a long input cable. The HDMI DA Series automatically adjusts color bit depth based on the display EDID, preventing color compatibility conflicts between source and display. Outputs can be muted independently via RS-232, allowing content to be previewed on a local monitor. Additionally, the distribution amplifiers provide immediate visual confirmation of EDID status, HDCP authentication, and signal presence confirmation for each port via front panel LED indicators.

Yamaha Commercial Audio Provides Sound System for Concert Celebrating Company’s 125th Anniversary

BUENA PARK, Calif.—Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. (YCAS) played a major role in parent company’s 125th anniversary celebration, providing the sound system used at a concert held at the Disney’s Hyperion Theatre during the NAMM Show in Anaheim. YCAS managed all live audio production equipment requirements including the design and implementation of a large-scale Dante network from inputs to speakers and were on hand for assistance to guest artist engineers.

The concert, which featured performances by Amy Grant; Chaka Khan; Dave Grusin; Earth, Wind & Fire; David Foster; Dave Koz; Michael McDonald; Sarah McLachlan; Toto; Lucy Schwartz; new artist LEOGUN; the USC Marching Band; and house band, under the musical direction of Nathan East.

Three Yamaha CL5 digital consoles were used at front of house (one for the orchestra, one for the house band, and one for guest bands) for a total of 150 inputs, two CL5s were used at monitors, two DME64N digital mix engines were used for Dante Network Bridging and FOH speaker system processing, NXAMP4x4s for amplification with NX-DT104 Dante cards, NEXO RS18 and S118 subwoofers, NEXO PS10 speakers for front fill, NEXO 45N-12 stage monitors, LS600 and DXS15 subwoofers for drum mix subs, and, for flown for the first time in the U.S., the new NEXO STM line array used as FOH Mains.

“The new CL5 console is amazing,” states front of house engineer Bryan Lenox, who mixed many of the guest artists as well as the house band. “The three CL5s were linked together and talking to one another during a very complex show. We had a multitude of artists, background singers, multiple pianos, horns, percussionists, a multi-track recording truck, and a live broadcast stream of audio and video. The console is very user friendly and quick to get around; the flexibility, touch screen, and color-coding groups of faders are very helpful especially when having to make quick moves. The console routing is great, and although you can do just about anything with the routing, the layout can even be customized by the engineer.” Lenox said the Neve and Pultec plug-ins sounded great on kick, snare, bass, and vocals. “The new NEXO STM rig sounded unbelievable and very rich sounding while retaining detail, clarity, and punch. It was very easy to get a great sound with the combination of the consoles and the STM.”

The night’s crescendo, however, was Sir Elton John who ended the concert with an amazing five-song set. A historical evening for Yamaha Pianos as John played a Disklavier reproducing piano onstage, accompanied by a 60-piece orchestra, as his actual piano keystrokes were faithfully played, note for note, in real time (via MIDI data) on remote Disklavier pianos all over the world. He and the orchestra were visible on adjacent monitors in perfect sync with the remote piano performance, and even fans from around the world without a Disklavier were able to witness the event via a live streaming feed.

“I enjoyed using the CL, in fact, when we have solo shows with Elton similar to the Yamaha event, it will be my desk of choice,” states Matt Herr, front of house engineer for Elton John. “I’m a fan of Yamaha desks and have been for many years. The product reliability and global service is second to none.” Herr has been using a PM5K when the band performs with John. “The CL is very user friendly and sounded really good in my opinion. The Neve inserts sounded fantastic; I used one of the compressors on Elton’s vocal. Normally, I use an outboard compressor, but this one worked quite well. As far as the NEXO STM line array, it sounded nice and smooth, and I’d like to get my hands on it with the band and really drive it to see what it can do. It seems like it would be a good large line array as opposed to some of the smaller ones out there.”

DMP 128 ATExtron Electronics is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the DMP 128 AT and DMP 128 C AT audio digital signal processors with Dante network connectivity from Audinate. Both DMP 128 models are 12×8 audio mixers featuring Extron ProDSP, automixing, and I/O expansion capabilities. The DMP 128 C AT version also features AEC – acoustic echo cancellation. DMP 128 AT models feature a 56 input by 24 output expansion matrix, providing efficient scalability for creating larger audio matrices over a local area network using standard Internet Protocols. A built-in four-port Gigabit switch provides direct interconnection of multiple DMP 128 AT units. The award-winning DMP 128 Series offers a configuration approach to DSP that simplifies mixing, routing, conferencing, and room optimization. Quick and intuitive configuration using the DSP Configurator Software allows the DMP 128 to be installed in very little time, with easy-to-learn adjustments that can be heard in real-time.

“These DMP 128 AT models offer a very wide range of possibilities for large-scale audio system designs and future system expansion,” says Casey Hall, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Extron. “Our customers can employ this scalability and advanced features like AEC for demanding presentation systems.”

DMP 128 AT models provide scalable audio transport over a local area network using standard Internet protocols. Each processor sends out 24 channels of 24-bit/48 kHz digital audio and can receive 56 channels over the network. A built-in four-port Gigabit switch also provides direct interconnection of multiple DMP 128 AT units to create larger, cost-effective audio matrixes. Dante technology distributes a virtually unlimited 512×512 audio channels at 24-bit/48 kHz over a single Gigabit Ethernet link, or 48×48 audio channels at 24-bit/48 kHz over a single 100 Mbps Ethernet link, plus integrated control data with extremely low latency. Both Dante and the DMP 128 AT processor’s four-port switch are AVB – Audio Video Bridging ready.

The DMP 128 features Extron ProDSP, engineered from the ground up using a powerful 64-bit floating point DSP engine and studio grade 24-bit converters with 48 kHz sampling. ProDSP is managed by the intuitive DSP Configurator Software, featuring an easy-to-use GUI that allows for complete audio system visualization within a single window. All DMP 128 models include an automixer with gated and gain sharing modes for managing up to eight groups of microphone signals. Select DMP 128 processors feature Extron AEC with eight independent channels of high performance, fast echo cancellation for optimal intelligibility in conferencing applications.
