Christian Faith Center in Seattle is one of the latest large houses of worship to elevate the sonic quality of their services, concerts, and seasonal productions with XL8, the flagship digital mixing system from Midas.

Pastored by Casey and Wendy Treat for 28 years, Christian Faith Center has one of the largest and fastest-growing congregations in the United States. The church is located on two main campuses in suburban Seattle-one of which is a state-of-the-art facility completed in September 2007-and 8,000 people a week now attend services at the two sites. Christian Faith Center is dedicated to continuous growth, and has integrated the highest quality equipment at their facilities to ensure a worship experience second to none. When it came to upping the ante with regard to sound reinforcement, the church worked with AV specialists Michael Garrison Associates to install two XL8 systems in the 5000-seat sanctuary at their new campus, a 550-sq. ft. octagonal space with stadium seating. Kris Hillstrom, Technical Director at Christian Faith Center, described how the church is sounding better than ever with the inimitable warm sound-and unprecedented digital flexibility-of Midas XL8 consoles at both FOH and monitor mix positions: more

canon-xl-h1-thaler-35.jpgDavid and Christopher Thaler have been in the television production business for more than 20 years. Working for a wide array of broadcast, cable and corporate clients, the brothers have captured motion images on everything from 35mm film to DV tape. In recent years their Emmy Award-winning New York-based company, Thaler Films, has provided production services for many top-rated cable series, including John Edward Cross Country, on WE tv, featuring the world-famous psychic medium, author and lecturer. When the show‘s producer asked if they could capture high-def close-ups of John Edward interacting with audience members, but do it inconspicuously with a telephoto lens from the back of a 5,000-seat studio, David Thaler sought an alternative to the cameras they had been using to shoot this live-to-tape series. more

SOUND DEVICES BRINGS A VOICE TO AIDS AWARENESS PROJECTS IN AFRICA

SOUTH BARRINGTON, IL — Sound Devices‘ 744T digital recorder recently helped Willow Creek Community Church illustrate its AIDS relief and prevention efforts in Africa. As part of the church‘s service during the weekend of World AIDS day (December 1-2, 2007), the church presented a 25-minute video update of the resources and support it has supplied to World Relief for its work in the African country of Malawi.

The video was shot documentary-style with interviews of local church leaders and members who are a part of the relief efforts. With the interview set-ups varying and a basic audio setup of a stereo shotgun mic and two wireless lavalier systems at the crew‘s disposal, Sound Devices‘ 744T became a versatile and effective option for recording audio rather than capturing audio on the cameras themselves. more
