Atkinson Sound Upholds Reputation for Excellence with HARMAN’s JBL VTX Line Arrays and Crown I-Tech HD Amplifiers

(Left to right) Paul Bauman, Associate Director, Tour Sound, JBL Professional; Jeff Harris, District Sales Manager, HARMAN Professional; Hoyt Atkinson, Owner, Atkinson Sound; Steve Johnson, CEO, HP Marketing; and Derreld Yost, Atkinson Sound.

KAMAS, Utah – Leading regional sound company Atkinson Sound recently bolstered its audio system inventory with HARMAN’s new JBL VTX V20 line array loudspeakers and Crown I-Tech HD 4×3500 amplifiers. The company will be using its new system for a variety of events beginning in May.

Founded in 1980 by Hoyt Atkinson, the company has evolved its business from a small provider of DJ systems to one of the region’s most successful sound contractors, providing rental and production services for concerts, festivals, corporate events and more, while also growing a strong systems integration department. A longtime JBL customer, Atkinson Sound’s investment in JBL has grown in parallel. “We have been a JBL company many years, starting with an SR-X system before graduating to HLA, and in more recent years to VERTEC® line arrays,” Atkinson said.

After seeing the new VTX V20 system at the Winter NAMM 2014 show, Hoyt Atkinson knew it was time to once again upgrade with JBL. “The high frequency in the V20 is just astounding and there is nothing else that compares to what the D2 driver is providing in a box of that size,” he said.

Atkinson Sound has purchased 24 VTX V20 line array loudspeakers, 12 VTX F12 multi-purpose loudspeakers, six VTX G28 subwoofers and 12 VTX S25 subwoofers. The systems will be configured and controlled with JBL HiQnet Performance Manager™ software.

The VTX V20 loudspeaker features a true 3-way system design with proprietary D2 Dual Diaphragm Dual Voice Coil compression driver and Differential Drive™ low frequency transducer technology along with patent-pending ultra-linear motor technology employed for midrange components. In keeping with the philosophy of the VTX Series, the VTX V20 has extremely high power density with each line array element featuring two 2261H 10-inch Differential Drive woofers, four 2164H 4-inch ultra-linear midrange transducers and three of the new small-format D2415K Dual Drivers.

Atkinson Sound expects to use the new VTX system for a variety of events throughout the western United States in the coming spring and summer months. “We love VERTEC and we saw it as a giant step forward for JBL when they introduced the VERTEC Series, and our adoption of VERTEC won a lot of jobs for us,” Atkinson noted. “Now, we see another leap forward with VTX and although we considered loudspeaker systems from competitive brands, nothing matched what VTX has to offer. It’s also a very rider-friendly loudspeaker, which gives us an advantage.”

SYMETRIX LAUNCHES SYMNET COMPOSER SOFTWARE VERSION 2.0

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON: Symetrix announces a new release of its SymNet Composer open architecture design software for Edge and Radius DanteTM network audio DSPs. In addition to a host of time-saving workflow enhancements, Composer 2.0 natively integrates select Dante third-party hardware supporting the discovery, signal routing, and other aspects of AtteroTech unDIO2x2 and unDX2IO and Stewart Audio AV25-2 and NetAV 2×2 devices. Composer 2.0 is the only programming environment needed to build a Dante networked system from start to finish, simplifying and speeding initial design, revisions, and troubleshooting.

Trent Wagner, senior product manager at Symetrix, noted, “I’m very excited to launch this version of SymNet Composer. To my knowledge, Composer 2.0 is the first full integration of third-party Dante devices in our industry. Contractors can now manage an entire Dante-based system from end-to-end (remote wall box I/O, to DSP, to power amps) using only SymNet Composer 2.0 with select products from AtteroTech, Stewart Audio, and Symetrix.”

In addition to third-party Dante device integration, Composer 2.0 offers a number of workflow enhancements. Remote control protocol can be accessed via TCP/IP and TCP/IP string output modules, simplifying integration with control devices and increasing the number of compatible control systems (e.g. projectors). Module input and output names can be automatically propagated to downstream modules, speeding and standardizing the labeling process, and presets can now be created and edited without going off-line. In addition to the 600+ DSP modules already within the Edge and Radius system, a new Transient Suppressor DSP module reduces random transient noise (e.g. pen tapping, silverware clanking) for clearer conference audio. Furthermore, a new “Trace Signal Path Forward” feature now traces through all Dante transmitters and receivers that significantly reduces the time required to understand, follow, and troubleshoot signal flows within large systems.

Added Symetrix Founder and CEO, Dane Butcher, “SymNet Composer 2.0 is yet another milepost in our ongoing mission to provide software and hardware tools that help our integrators achieve the greatest possible levels of technical excellence while at the same time expending the least time and effort.”

SymNet Composer 2.0 is available for free download at www.symetrix.co

The transmitter/receiver pair extends two single-link DVI (2x1920x1200) or one dual-link DVI (2560×1600 or 4096×2160) video, and multiple high-speed USB 2.0 compliant devices from the host computer by up to 1312 ft (400 m) over multimode cable and 6.2 mi (10 km) over single-mode cable. Avio F125 stands out for its ability to transmit all signals with zero compression and zero latency on a single duplex LC-LC fiber-optic cable.

Video Streaming and Recording Appliance
Matrox Monarch HD is a small, easy-to-use H.264 encoder designed for professional video producers who need to simultaneously stream a live event and record a mastering-quality version for post-event editing. Priced at just $995 US, it provides these two independent modes in an integrated unit. From any HDMI input source such as a camera or switcher, Matrox Monarch HD generates an H.264-encoded stream compliant with RTSP or RTMP protocol. While encoding the video at bitrates suitable for live streaming, Matrox Monarch HD simultaneously records a high-quality MP4 or MOV file to an SD card, a USB drive, or a network-mapped drive. Matrox Monarch HD is remotely controlled using any computer or mobile device with a web browser. The new Monarch SDK, an HTTP-based API, includes documentation and sample code that let AV and broadcast equipment developers write applications to configure and control Monarch HD streaming capabilities, giving them a very straightforward way to include a high-quality webcasting service as part of their overall product offerings.

Quad HD Capture Card for Multi-Camera Recording and Streaming
Matrox VS4 is a quad HD capture card that comes bundled with VS4Recorder™,a multi-camera recording app that gives live event producers complete synchronized control over capture of the four inputs connected to the VS4 to create high-quality MOV, MP4, or AVI files for use with popular editing apps, for immediate upload to the internet or for archiving. VS4 is also ideal for multi-camera live production streaming with Telestream Wirecast for Windows or StudioCoast vMix software. It not only sends video feeds for streaming, it also facilitates ISO recording to disk of all the original video and audio feeds for post event editing via a Matrox plug-in for Wirecast or Matrox Video for Windows (VfW) codecs for vMix MultiCoder software..
