Christie wins top technology awards at ISE 2015

Christie® earned two highly prestigious awards for technical innovation at this year’s ISE Show in Amsterdam last week. Christie’s 6P laser technology was voted the “AV Innovation of the Year” by leading British based trade journal, “AV News.” The award recognizes the contribution made by individuals and teams to the development of the AV business, and marks the arrival of new technologies that will have a significant effect on the AV industry.
.
The mission set out by Christie 6P laser projection was to redefine the 3D cinema experience by delivering the optimum 14 fl to 3D along with no motion artifacts. It provides unprecedented brightness and smooth, natural viewing with stunning uniformity and detail.
.
“Christie’s decision to use the dual headed projection system for providing the most comfortable 3D viewing experience and delivering the brightest picture is reinforced by this award,” said Don Shaw, senior director, product management for Christie. “It is also a testament to our engineering capability and our knowledge of what the market truly needs. As a result, Christie’s 6P laser projection is setting the standard for cinemas and other 3D projection applications by providing the ultimate viewing experience.”
.
Christie GS Series wins prestigious InAVation Award
Christie’s GS Series of laser phosphor projectors picked up a major global award for “Most InAVative Projector” at the highly prestigious annual “InAVation Awards.”
.
Sponsored by InAVate Magazine and held at the Gashouder, Amsterdam during the annual ISE Show, this category recognizes a remarkable technology that avoids the downtime, cost of lamp and filter replacements, and the maintenance associated with lamp-based projectors. It further acknowledges that laser phosphor illumination provides an impressive 20,000 hours of low-cost operation, with wireless connectivity, a small footprint, low-weight, quiet operation and a full suite of lenses.
.
“We deliver what our customers want and this award demonstrates our ongoing commitment to developing high quality products,” said Curtis Lingard, product manager, Christie. “With our GS Series, I think we are seeing the start of a new technology in the market  and I hope we will see a lot more  with Christie leading the way.”

Christie 4K Digital Projectors Send Science Museum of Virginia’s Planetarium Audiences Across the Planet and Universe

Full Dome Theater Systems Leader Evans & Sutherland Upgrades Science Museum of Virginia’s Aging Film System with Christie D4K2560 3DLP Projectors

Christie® helped the Science Museum of Virginia create a state-of-the-art planetarium that is taking patrons across the planet and deep into the universe. Audiences are seeing it all in high resolution at 120 Hz thanks to Christie D4K2560 high frame rate projectors, which were installed by Evans & Sutherland (E&S), a pioneer in computer graphics and digital dome theater systems.
.
The projectors power an 8K-resolution full dome system with the sharpest and brightest images ever seen on the 76-foot Dome screen, one of the largest digital dome theaters in the world. Audiences are spellbound when they see the high-energy 2D and 3D movies, as well as innovative astronomy shows featuring E&S’s proprietary Digistar 5 system.
.
.
Making the journey from film to digital with Christie
“The fact that the Christie D4K2560 projectors with 120 Hertz and 25,000 lumens of brightness became available at the perfect time meant we could offer a cutting edge digital dome projection system to the museum. These new projectors provide them a solution that has the brightness on the dome that would equal or surpass what they were getting out of their film projector,” said Dennis Elkin, Director of Advanced Displays, Evans & Sutherland. “And with our proprietary auto blending and auto alignment systems, we are able to perfectly blend the five projectors into a uniform image across the dome. Color and dark state uniformity makes a lot of difference – especially in the dark parts of a presentation. It is critical to have the right black level for the sky in a dome or planetarium and the Christie projectors provide that.”
.
Aware of the dome’s 30-degree tilt, Evans & Sutherland installed three Christie projectors in the back of the dome inside the projection booth, cross-shooting two of them. Another two Christie projectors were installed in the front of the dome, cross-shooting to the back. Using E&S’s auto-alignment and auto-blending, all the images were perfectly blended and “stitched together,” resulting in a seamless image throughout the entire dome surface, which was recently re-skinned by Spitz, an E&S subsidiary.
.
“With a film projector that physically loads frames into the projection gate 24 times per second there is a slight misalignment between frames that causes some image jitter. Digital projection eliminates that shake and resulting blurriness. You add to that 8K resolution and four foot-lamberts of brightness and you really get a premium experience, which we demonstrated at the GSCA digital dome day,” added David Sasich, E&S sales account manager.
.
“We split the dome down the middle with 1570 film on one side and digital on the other. We masked half of each projection system so there would be no cross-contamination,” Sasich continued. “The left side showed film and the right side of the screen showed the same footage in digital and they were synced together using Digistar. The feedback from the very film-centric GSCA audience was overwhelmingly positive and the takeaway was that digital is the way to go.”
.
“Overall, the image coming from the digital system and the brightness is better than what was presented on film,” said Michael Daut, Director of Show Production, Evans & Sutherland. “Plus, the colors on the digital side were more true; you have a more consistent color for the digital image over the entire dome. When you have film, there is variance – but not with digital. And, from an operational standpoint, digital is much simpler to run.”
.
The Christie D4K2560 3DLP® projector boasts 25,000 center lumens for ultra-realistic images and smoother video at 60Hz and 120Hz. It features Christie TruLife™ electronics – a major leap in video-image processing for high frame rate and high-resolution video projection.

LuminEsse is compatible with any of Stewart’s 4K+ front-projection screen materials, providing utmost versatility and an aesthetically pleasing  ‘Edgeless’ appearance

TORRANCE, CA, USA (ISE 2015 Stand #1-F50) – FEB. 4, 2015 — Stewart Filmscreen®—an Academy Award® winning manufacturer of custom engineered projection screens and specialty optical coatings—today announced the availability of LuminEsse™—a new rigid front-projection wall screen system with an ‘edgeless’ design that gives technology integrators, consultants, designers and property owners the ability to offer appreciable aesthetics, in addition to providing the appropriate screen material for the application. LuminEsse can be configured with any of Stewart Filmscreen’s 4K+ rated front projection materials, including FireHawk® G4, GrayHawk RS® G4, StudioTek 130, and more. The LuminEsse screen will make its International debut at Integrated Systems Europe 2015 in Amsterdam, February 10-12.modern interior

“It’s no secret that clients are more demanding than ever when it comes to having a great-looking screen whether the screen in in use or not. This means a ‘floating image’ experience when in use and an ‘edgeless’ art piece effect when not,” says Grant Stewart, President and CEO of Stewart Filmscreen. “Now, the technology professional can offer his or her clients just that, but with far more flexibility when it comes to specifying the right gain for the particular application plus the impeccable and impressive image quality that is synonymous with Stewart.”

With an elegant 3/8-inch thin bezel, LuminEsse fits modern expectations for more screen size, less visible framing system, while providing a sleek appearance, even when not being viewed. The LuminEsse front-projection wall screen features an optional LED backlighting kit that goes beyond wow factor to make viewing more comfortable. Scientifically speaking, the LED lighting acts as bias lighting, relaxing the iris of the eye and causing less strain during extended viewing. When the screen is on, the multicolored perimeter lighting enriches onscreen content and when off, it can be used to set the mood of the room.

“This isn’t a new category for Stewart per se, but it’s an exciting and enhanced product offering for sure. LuminEsse is demonstrative of the New Stewart Filmscreen. With this product and the others coming to market later this year, we are responding to the needs of technology professionals working on the front lines of the AV industry, delivering the broadest range of solutions to meet ever-increasing client demands,” furthered Stewart.

Available in sizes up to 120-inches (diagonal) in HD formats and in sizes up to 128-inches (diagonal) in Cinemascope® configurations, the LuminEsse rigid front projection screen system utilizes Stewart’s wall mount system, making screen installation inexpensive, simple and fast. Additional mounting solutions will become available in the coming months.

Attendees of ISE 2015 are invited to see Stewart Filmscreen’s robust lineup of projection screen solutions on display in stand #1-F50, where LuminEsse and several other new screen materials and framing systems will make their international debut. Christie Delivers Undisputed Performance with Launch of 30,000 Lumen Christie Boxer 4K30 Projector

New Boxer Series of 3DLP solutions introduces the brightest, lightest, smallest, omni-directional projector in its class for rental staging and fixed installations

A combination of the most lumens, the most pixels, and 3DLP® quality combined with the smallest, lightest, yet most rugged design available in its class defines the new Christie® Boxer 4K30 projector launched today. The first offering from the new Boxer Series, the Boxer 4K30 hits the target every time while setting a new industry benchmark for rental staging and fixed installation applications including concerts, amusement parks, projection mapping projects, museums, planetariums and more.

The Christie Boxer 4K30

The Christie Boxer 4K30

The Boxer 4K30 has six 450W mercury lamps delivering 30,000 center lumens and will make its worldwide debut at the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) show in Amsterdam, Netherlands, February 10-12 at Christie booth No. 1-H50. At a pre-launch event, held in November with rental stagers at Christie’s Canadian facility, former undisputed heavyweight boxing legend Lennox Lewis was part of the festivities and the boxing legend will continue to champion Boxer Series. Already a global hit with more than 200 units sold worldwide, the Boxer 4K30 delivers, pound for pound, the ultimate combination of power, brightness, performance and durability.

Weighing less than 150 pounds (68 kilograms), the Boxer 4K30 can be carried by two individuals and is built to deliver undisputed performance for any rental/staging fleet or permanent installation. With built-in Christie Twist™, images can be blended and warped from multiple projectors onto curved or irregular surfaces without requiring an external solution. Housed in two 3-lamp cartridges, the six long-life mercury lamp modules are easy to handle, maintain, and change and stock, which means a better return on investment and less consumables.

Users can monitor the lamp hours and serial numbers through Near Field Communication (NFC) with each lamp – simplifying the effort required to track lamp-life and the ability to make fast changeovers so the show goes on. Boxer’s Christie TruLife™ electronics package is equally at home supporting the most demanding high bit depth, high frame rate, native 4K signals as well as seamlessly supporting HD signals, with on-board upscaling making it a simple task to fit it into existing HD workflows.

“The brightness-to-size and brightness-to-weight ratios of the Boxer 4K30 is second-to-none in this lumen level of projector. This translates to not only the lightest projector at 30,000 lumens, but also reduced shipping costs and on-site handling,” said Mike Garrido, senior product manager, Christie. “This Boxer 4K30 and the Boxer Series is about our customers winning more bids, winning more repeat business, earning more money per project and satisfying the needs of the most demanding clients. Boxer is optimized to provide an unprecedented user experience and everything from ease of use to lumens to durability to shipping size to weight has been taken into account.”

“At the pre-launch event, everyone was very impressed with Boxer not only for delivering so much brightness in such a small, quiet package, but also for the fact that Boxer was loaded with exciting new features that make it very easy to use. For example, you can monitor lamp life levels using your smartphone and the projector even comes with its very own built-in toolbox,” said Jeevan Vivegananthan, senior director of engineering, Christie. “In developing Boxer, we spent a lot of time with our customers around the world observing their needs and combined with Christie’s own substantive expertise and experience in the field, reflected that in the design. We witnessed a definite user-affinity with Boxer that we’re confident will continue to grow.”

“With the Boxer 4K30 and the entire Boxer Series, the omnidirectional orientation capability means greater installation and placement flexibility. No matter where you place the Boxer projectors and whether the projector points up or down at any angle, the image maintains its integrity and uniformity throughout the performance or presentation,” Vivegananthan concluded.

The Christie Boxer 4K30 has a three-year parts and labor warranty and ships in April.

Christie Boxer Series is equipped with full connectivity including 3G-SDI, HDBaseT, Display Port, DVI-I, HDMI, VGA, and 5 BNC, plus a color LCD preview panel readout, and a complete lens suite.

Christie Boxer 4K30 at a glance:

- 30,000 center lumens for Boxer 4K30 in smallest and lightest design available

- Six 450W mercury lamps with NFC capabilities to simplify lamp management both in the projector and on the shelf

- Longer life lamps allow the projector to continue generating revenue with less consumables

International recognition of interactive 3D projection mapping first!

Paris, France – Play Me! an interactive 3D projection mapping spectacular created by French multimedia artists, Danny Rose for Vivid Sydney, an 18 day festival of music, light and ideas, has won the Judges Choice Award for Play Me! at the DIGI Awards 2015 in New York City.

The DIGI Awards recognises the service providers who have gone the extra mile to ensure success for their clients, thereby furthering the digital signage industry as a whole. The Judges Choice Award winner impressed the team of experienced judges for its innovative use of technology and mass audience engagement, in a way that went beyond normal ‘digital signage’,” said David Keene, Executive Editor at NewBay Media’s Digital Signage Magazine, and Chairman of the Judges Committee for the DIGI Awards.

Play Me! at Vivid Sydney 2014

Vivid Sydney is an 18-day festival of light, music and ideas – the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, attracting a record 1.43 million attendees in 2014.

Now in its seventh year, Vivid Sydney is and owned and managed by Destination New South Wales (NSW), the State Government’s tourism and major events agency.

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer Sandra Chipchase said: “Congratulations to the creative team at Danny Rose on winning this distinguished international award for their compelling Play Me! experience.

“Each year the world’s finest artists are invited to showcase their talents, ideas and creativity at Vivid Sydney. Play Me! delighted many of the record 1.43 million visitors to Vivid Sydney last year and it was one of the most popular exhibits of the festival. We look forward to working with Danny Rose again on future projects,” Ms Chipchase said.

Play Me! from Danny Rose incorporated visual and interactive elements through a series of massive ‘musical sculptures. Each ‘sculpture’ represents a family of musical instruments, which the audience ‘played’ in real-time just using hands and body. The audience member is able to change colour, light shape and sound in front of festival-goers.

High definition projectors provided by video experts, TDC – Technical Direction Company were used to project content onto the façade of Customs House, Sydney.

Play Me! is made possible using powerful 3D real-time software and rendering engine that manages interactivity and high-quality interactive graphics.

A Microsoft® Kinect motion capture system intercepts the body’s movements. Danny Rose has custom created special software that allows for the audience to interact with Play Me! just using a combination of hand and body movements.

“We’re delighted to receive this recognition for our work in creating Play Me! at Vivid Sydney 2014” said Sergio Carrubba, director and designer of Danny Rose, the design team for this project.

Vivid Sydney will be held from 22 May to 8 June 2015. For more information visit www.vividsydney.com.
