Digital Projection’s entire LED projector lineup receives major brightness upgrade, 3D LED models introduced

ATLANTA, GA – 8/30/2012 – Digital Projection International (DPI), an Emmy® Award-winning manufacturer of high-performance projection systems, announces a highly-anticipated brightness upgrade to their entire LED projector lineup. By combining engineering innovation and newly-available components, each of DPI’s LED displays now deliver higher luminance, with select models breaking the 1,000 lumen threshold. Priced between $12,995 and $39,995 MSRP, DPI offers an unparalleled variety of LED projectors for residential, commercial and simulation applications. LED display options can be found in a variety of resolutions within both the M-Vision Series and dVision Series of DPI’s product offering, with the new dVision 35 series LED models also offering 3D capability. Alongside the higher brightness, DPI’s LED displays continue to deliver Lifetime Illumination™, providing a virtually maintenance-free imaging solution that never requires a lamp replacement and consumes a fraction of the power of typical UHP lamp-sourced projectors.

Though currently less bright than their lamp-based counterparts, LED displays are perceived as being much brighter than their measured luminance specifications, thanks in part to the Helmholtz-Kohlrausch effect (H-K effect). The International Electrotechnical Commission defines the Helmholtz-Kohlrausch effect as, “A change in brightness of perceived color produced by increasing the purity of a color stimulus while keeping its luminance constant within the range of photopic vision.” In layman’s terms, the H-K effect describes a situation whereby if two color stimuli sources with the same luminance are compared, the perceived brightness induced by the color stimuli of higher purity will be higher than that of lower purity. LED illuminated projectors produce extraordinarily high color purity and saturation, thus appearing brighter than a lamp-based display with similar measured lumen specifications.

LED projectors are ideal for critical 24/7 projection applications, as well as any application needing long-life projection systems with unmatched color saturation, lumen maintenance and color stability. As LED projectors do not enlist a traditional lamp, applications utilizing DPI’s higher-lumen M-Vision LED and dVision LED displays will benefit from their Lifetime Illumination™ 60,000+ hour lifespan. DPI’s Lifetime Illumination™ certification ensures that their LED projectors will deliver many years of consistent, engaging and virtually maintenance-free imagery for the application in which they’re installed. Providing 3-chip color saturation from small-form single chip displays, M-Vision LED and dVision LED displays present powerful, capable solutions for a variety of commercial and residential applications including command and control, home media, visualization and simulation where image quality, long-life and low long-term cost of ownership are equally valued.

A combination of consistently stable, long-term light output and a supremely low-maintenance illumination system defines DPI’s LED display solutions. In each of Digital Projection’s LED displays, the RGB-based LED illumination system eliminates the need for a color wheel to produce primary colors. Instead, red, green and blue LED’s produce primary color illumination, rendering a color gamut and color saturation similar to that of a 3-chip DLP projector with no color wheel artifacts. Additionally, certain LED displays in DPI’s product line feature their FastFrame technology, which assures fast-moving content appears remarkably sharp and free of motion smear. As is the case with every projector in their catalog, DPI’s LED displays utilize Texas Instruments’ DarkChip DLP technology, ensuring unmatched black levels, RGB bit depth and dynamic range.

DPI will be demonstrating numerous 2D, 3D and LED precision projectors throughout a completely reconfigured booth (#3454) at CEDIA Expo 2012 from September 6 – 8 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Christie’s Moving-Yoke Projection Technology Adds To The Excitement At 5LINX Sales Meeting

Christie® technology was the clear choice when Atlanta-based PPi was asked to provide the projection technology for the 5LINX company sales meeting at the Las Vegas Convention Center recently. 5LINX is a direct marketing company providing electrical, power, cellular and satellite services to customers throughout America with its head office located in Rochester, New York.

PPi produces corporate events and for the 5LINX meeting, they used the best ideas from award and reality shows – especially American Idol – and combined them. The 64-feet wide by 40-feet deep multi-tiered stage was bathed in colors from numerous spotlights, a Christie YK100 moving yoke system, and several Christie projectors – creating a feast for the eyes.

Geoffrey Platt, event production designer at PPi, used one Christie YK100 yoke with a Christie WX10K-M projector and was impressed with the result.

“One of the main elements of the show was an opening segment with lighting and pyrotechnics shown behind a center screen measuring 23-feet across by 11-feet high that tracked eight feet up-and-down, from which presenters would emerge,” he said. “The Christie YK100 and projector were tracking to this center screen, which is why we used the yoke solution. The quality of the WX10K-M projector we used in the yoke was great.”

Designed for staging and event productions, the award-winning Christie YK100 supports the Christie M Series 3-chip DLP® platform as well as the Christie LX1500 LCD model, giving AV professionals a range of brightness levels from 5,700 to 15,000 ANSI lumens and a choice of resolutions to fit any event requirements. The flexible Christie YK100 moving yoke includes an interchangeable head system so technicians can swap out one Christie projector for another— on the same yoke. The Christie YK100 can be rigged or set up at floor level with both projector and yoke control from the same console using DMX512 protocol.

“There are some similar moving projection products on the market but they don’t even come close to the quality of the Christie YK100,” he said. “For what we were doing, I couldn’t conceive of a better fit. This was the first time I had used the Christie YK100 and the yoke performed beautifully.”

Christie HD10K-M and Christie HD18K Projectors Complete the Presentation

Platt said that 5LINX used Christie HD10K-M 3-chip DLP® projectors for both a secondary screen and the ‘halos,’ which were tension fabric cut in rings eight feet across that hung 20 feet above the stage. Projected onto the halos were graphic treatments above customized 5LINX logos.

PPi also used four Christie HD18K 3-chip DLP® projectors – one each for four separate, main screens – to display graphics, PowerPoint, video and IMAG.

Planning and executing such an elaborate show is a major undertaking but Platt knew Christie technology would perform as advertised.

“I have never had any problems with Christie projectors and they have always been rock solid,” he concluded. “We had no issues at all. I love the color, contrast and picture quality and everything worked flawlessly out of the box. Christie also has the moving yoke/projector system, which is a big plus and made the decision that much easier. Christie had everything we needed to ensure this event went smoothly.”

Main Event Entertainment™ Creates a Visual and Digital Entertainment Experience With Casio’s Signature XJ-M250 Projectors

MAIN EVENT ENTERTAINMENT™ CREATES A VISUAL AND DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT EXPERIENCE WITH CASIO’S SIGNATURE XJ-M250 PROJECTORS

DOVER, NJ, (AUGUST 22, 2012) - Main Event Entertainment™, a leading family entertainment center based in Plano, Texas wanted to visually enhance and transform their customers’ overall bowling experience.  To do so, the Center sought out SAVE Electronics –  a leading solutions provider of presentation, entertainment and communications systems components and support for business and home systems to help find a less expensive and low maintenance projector for wall-to-wall entertainment. With the help of SAVE Electronics located in Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex, SAVE Electronics installed 40 of Casio’s Signature XJ-M250
projectors across three different Main Event locations.

SAVE Electronics suggested Casio’s Signature XJ-M250 projectors because they are lamp-free and run on Casio’s state-of-the-art LASER & LED Hybrid Light Source. This means users do not have to replace lamps every 2-3 months, which typically costs almost as much as the original projector cost over one year. With the projectors having an estimated lifespan of 20,000 hours, Main Event can now provide on-going visual footage, since the projectors typically run 14-16 hours a day.

“I have been in this business for more than 30 years and found Casio’s Signature XJ-M250 projector to be incomparable,” said Tim Boyd, president of SAVE Electronics. “The fact that it can withstand such a high amount of daily use is a major benefit. Additionally, the XJ-M250 is one of the brightest Lamp Free Laser & LED projectors on the market and the zoom feature works great, while still allowing the brightness of the image to stay intact.”

With Casio’s XJ-M250, Main Event can shut down the projectors every day without worrying about additional setup time. When the power is turned back on, the projectors retain memory of the zoom settings and cut down on calibration time. Even if the Center were to lose power during a thunderstorm, this easy to use system will not lose the data needed to keep the visual effects running when power is restored.  Since the projectors use Laser & LED’s it only takes eight seconds from Power on to reach full brightness. And instant OFF capability means no cool down time.

“The total cost of ownership and ability to withstand daily use were the two major components in choosing a projector,” said Pete Del Monte, Director of Technical Services of Main Event Entertainment. “Casio’s Signature XJ-M250 meets our needs beyond our expectations and has made a significant technological difference in our bowling alleys by cutting down costs and maintenance, and brightening the atmosphere. This projector has transformed Main Event Bowling Centers into an amazing digital experience for consumers.”

Casio’s Signature XJ-M250 projectors are set up at the end of all bowling lanes, right above the pins, from floor to ceiling. The units can project advertisements, live video of sporting events, music videos and more. Controlled by Crestron, the projectors have an additional switcher that allows managers to choose from six different DirectTV networks.

Main Event set up 11 projectors in their first location, which became the first full digital building in the United States. After testing Casio’s projectors in this location, Main Event Bowling Center decided to implement the projectors in two other locations as well. They went on to set up 12 projectors in a second location and 17 in a third. Currently, Main Event Bowling Center is building a new location in Katy, Texas, which will include 14 Casio projectors.

“Casio is proud to be Main Event’s premier projector provider,” said Matt Mustachio, general manager of Casio’s Business Projector Division. “We know our Lamp Free projectors will reduce operating costs over the life of the installation and create a space that is both inviting and dynamic. We look forward to our continued relationship with Main Event Entertainment.”

White Mark Designs Two Preview Theatres for NBC Universal

Studio design and acoustics consultancy White Mark Ltd has completed a major project for NBC Universal that involved designing two state of the art preview theatres at the company’s new international headquarters in London.

NBC Universal’s move into the award-winning Central Saint Giles office development allowed the company to bring all of its technical facilities together under one roof. Working in conjunction with architects T P Bennett and cinema optics consultant Lawrence Claydon, White Mark designed a 64-seat, double height screening room on the ground floor of the building and a smaller 18-seat theatre on the first floor. Both theatres are now being used for executive and private screenings.

David Hodgkinson, Senior Vice President, Theatrical Operations at NBC Universal, says: “We chose White Mark for this project on the basis of the company’s excellent worldwide reputation for designing sonically accurate film dubbing theatres and post production facilities, and we’re delighted with the end result.”

David Bell, Managing Director of White Mark, says: “This was a complex project because of the lightweight construction of the building and the fact that we were working within very tight space constraints. Also, as a mixed use building, it was imperative that both theatres had excellent acoustic isolation. To achieve satisfactory weight distribution, we built each theatre within its own steel isolation shell and placed these on top of each other to effectively create a theatre stack. As sonic excellence was an important part of our design brief, we paid careful attention to the room acoustics to make sure these theatres were as accurate as the professional film dubbing rooms in which soundtracks are mixed.”

Having completed the preview theatres, White Mark was then asked to design a range of other technical facilities including audio and video editing and post production suites, quality control suites and library and archive facilities.

“This project took 18 months to complete and involved high level collaboration with T P Bennett,” David Bell adds. “There was a fantastic spirit of cooperation between our team, the main architect Shane Kelly and interior designer Tajal Rutherford-Bhatt. Between us, we overcame a number of practical issues to create two stunning preview theatres and an impressive range of technical facilities that are exceptionally high-end.”

Christie’s Technology on the World Stage in London

Christie® today announced its partnership with Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade’s (DFAIT) “Invest in Canada.” Christie has provided two striking digital displays featuring Christie® MicroTiles® and Christie Entero LED rear projection cubes at Canada Olympic House in Trafalgar Square. Operating from July 27 through August 12, in addition to being the Canadian Olympic Committee’s space for athletes, their friends and their families, Canada Olympic House hosts business leaders and government dignitaries and showcase Canada’s leading industries and businesses. Christie is among the select technology companies invited to participate.

As a world leader of visual display technologies and solutions, with manufacturing in Canada, Christie’s partnership with DFAIT at Canada Olympic House in London includes a large lobby display of up to 37 Christie MicroTiles and four 72” diagonal Entero cubes, the world’s first LED-based ultra-high resolution projection display system, for the Business Club, site of numerous networking events throughout the month. Both displays show a video and graphical montage highlighting Canada’s leading sectors and landscapes. Float4 Interactive is providing the interactivity kit to allow multiple users to interact with the displays.

Business leaders, government dignitaries, world-class athletes and executives from all over the world are expected to attend the various events to be presented at the facility. This includes a special Information Communications Technology (ICT) day on August 6, put on by Invest in Canada in association with the Financial Times, as well as a technology showcase organized by Invest Ottawa on behalf of the Consider Canada Alliance.

“From award-winning games and visual effects, to digital cinema and e-commerce, to wireless and mobile applications, Canada is an important player in the global economy,” noted Kathryn Cress, vice president of Global and Corporate Marketing at Christie. “As a major contributor to Canada’s technology revolution with manufacturing facilities in the Waterloo Region, Christie is proud to bring its expertise to Canada Olympic House to help further the country’s strategic expansion upon the world’s digital stage.”

According to the government of Canada, Canada’s digital industries are a robust and rapidly advancing sector, with 32,700 companies, more than half a million employees, annual revenues in excess of $162 billion and annual exports of $26 billion in 2010. Profiling these activities is part of the government’s economic strategy to create conditions for businesses in Canada to succeed on a global scale. At Canada Olympic House, senior policy-makers and global business leaders will inform potential investors about Canada’s ICT sector, its key areas of growth, as well as the challenges and emerging investment opportunities.

“As a leader in the ICT sector, Canada long ago recognized the importance of fostering innovation and creating the right business environment to attract world-class companies to our shores,” said International Trade Minister Ed Fast. “With our low taxes, strong and stable economy, significant research and development incentives, and highly-educated workforce, Canada continues to be a premier destination of choice for foreign investors. Christie’s revolutionary digital cinema technology and powerful visual displays highlight how Canada’s competitive strengths and economic vision benefit a global audience and drive economic growth here at home.”
